Hullo all! I've been thinking a lot about what else can be improved or expanded around ZZ that'd help keep all you guys entertained and able to progress your stories without being hindered by our wavering modding times. Pokémon Escapades were supposed to be an answer to this initially, but I can't help but see that it's not quite accomplishing what we had initially hoped.
So... I'd love to hear some feedback and suggestions!
"What do you wish was different, or included, with Escapades?"
I wanna hear all ideas, no matter how unrealistic or out of grasp they may seem. Don't like the legendary penalty? Find the allowed levels too restrictive? Wish there were more areas to explore, or better/more prompts? How 'bout more of a benefit for solo adventures?
It's all on the table so please whenever you have a moment give us your thoughts. I don't even mind if you end up posting 10 times each with one short thought, it all counts. [Though don't double post in rapid succession ;D]
As well, if you see an idea from someone else that you like post saying you support it.

I wish it was like mystery dugeon completly... where pokemon formed teams with one another and did crazy adventures.. Like having a mystery dungeon themed sub set of tasks would really get me interested.
Certainly an idea! We could look into providing some adventure options that have minimum requirements... Perhaps something like the further quests in Team Rocket's Pokemon Pit?
Any more details on anything particular you'd be looking for to make some more Mystery Dungeon-esc scenarios would be great! Keeping in mind Escapades are 100% not modded, and are encouraged to be unique stories to get more Creative & Bonus stars.

So far, I've enjoyed the Pokemon Escapades even though I've only participated in one at the moment. I like the idea of Solo Escapades, since we can still run into the lack of progress being made when threading with other people. It's quite understandable since we all have lives outside of ZZ. Maybe, it would be cool for some members to be able to develop NPC to pop in with solo threads to make things more interesting? Of course, there is still a possibility that the thread will be slowed down a bit. I wouldn't mind helping out with solo threads whenever I'm around. I enjoy writing and it will give me something to do while I wait for replies for my own threads. Plus, I wouldn't have to worry about using damage calculators and that kind of mechanics that the site uses, because that terrifies me. xD
Anyway, I also love the idea of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon idea, too!
I see nothing wrong with how it was set up initially. (To me it has always been my own part of activity, that's the problem)
I do like what people are suggesting here. I bit softer lvl restriction would open up for more Pokemon to play around with, if you feel like a certain Pokemon would fit nicely with a certain plot (Though I would likely have gotten around that with letting other of my Pokemon participate like semi npcs)
I wouldn't really know how to make it more Mystery Dungeon-feeling. I've only played half a game of that genre, and to me the essence of it is that it's Pokemon going on adventures together, which the Escapades is. Would it need an option of "self made plot"? Or more plots that looks like missions from the mystery dungeon games? I guess it would be a balance between how sandboxy versus how much can be gained from it for the player. We already got a very unused area of pure sandbox play in the literature lounge for anyone just needing to play around a bit without it interfering at all with journey or pokemon lvls. Maybe I'm rambling. Not entirely sure what I'm getting at.
NPCs are definitely something we've started considering, though we would leave it open to thread makers to do with them what they will as the whole point of putting up Escapades is so that members can progress their stories/levels/etc without any mod reliability... until the end when we dish out rewards of course ;D
If someone was doing a solo Escapade and wanted another person to interject partway through, you can do that already. How your Escapades are written are 100% up to you guys. We hadn't considered the possibility of a temporary writing partner, but if that's all the co-op desired in any particular escapade we're not going to stop you guys ^^ Full rewards wouldn't be given for a temp partner, but it would probably depend on how much they did; so a per story basis. I can see how this may not be clear as a possibility so I'll definitely look into tweaking the write up!
There is already an easy access Escapade Archive for anyone who wants to read previously graded escapades, but I've added a link explicitly in the info thread for quick access. Otherwise, Mid there is a whole section of the write up that goes over what the judging parameters are, what part of it seems intimidating or unclear? If possible I'll try to tweak the write up to make it less scary ^^
One big thing I'd like to mention is being able to make your own stories, or do something that is beyond the current offered list of scenarios... You can already do this!
(under Locations section)
Each area has a list of scenarios you can base your story on but feel free to come up with something completely unique!
There is a bonus star for writing an original scenario open enough we can throw it onto our offered lists, and Tarlar has made some if anyone took a quick look through the archive sub-board. So if you wanted to make an Escapade that was exactly a Mystery Dungeon quest, you can do that already. If you wanted to go to an anime location like Catallia City (located between Cherry & Newbark) and write a never before seen tale on ZZ, you are 100% encouraged to do that :D
I've noted down all this wonderful feedback! Hopefully this clears some stuff up for you guys as the whole goal here is to make Escapades less of a mystery and more fun! Please continue giving your thoughts as they come up if you think of anything more ^^
Just a little announcement here regarding changes to the Escapade suggestions:
Area level caps have been removed! Now you can enjoy interactions of your seasoned battler with the young ones frolicking's around New Bark Town.
Labels are no longer a thing! Their original purpose was never really utilized and has now been completely removed so I removed them along with it ;D
The penalties for including Legendaries or ultra-rare pokemon have been ever so slightly relaxed... in the sense that they could be mentioned in the background for dramatic effect or something of that like. Think Ep 1 kinda deal.
A new Bonus Star, the Twinkling Star, has been added to the grading. It's achievable in all manner of stories, but *should* be easier to obtain in a solo thread. So hopefully that makes Solo Escapades a little more rewarding.
Always open to more ideas! And of course we'll continue trying to improve the Escapade experience based on your guys' feedback ^^
I would like clarification on how the Escapades are to be graded because right now it seems like half the ones in the archives are missing a star category for some reason or another.
e.g. for Creativity - what is the minimum number of words/scenes it needs to be? Or is it only when a complete story is finished? For Teamwork - how many different players/Pokemon need to participate for it to count as a team? Can this be done in Solos at all?
One reason a lot of the ones in the archives are missing stars is because they weren't finished but asked to get closed before since some participants went inactive.
As for teamwork, you need to be at least two, and then actually trying to work together If the pokemon are running around and not really doing stuff together, there isn't really any teamwork.
As for the creativity, its more a personal opinion I think? Basically if your story is intersting/fun you can get stars from that. If you put some work into the story it shouldn't get be a problem to get some here. If you make a one post thread, on 100 words, it is of course hard to get anything done, but it is definitely quality over quantity. You won't be sure to get creativity stars if your thread is 20 post long of 700 words each, if there are no real story.
Personally I'd suggest to focus on writing in escapades to have fun with others or tell stories about your pokemon, rather than trying to maximize the level outcome in the end ^^'
Apologies on the double post but! I have news of updates.
We have adjusted the Escapade info guide to be a bit more descriptive about the Gradings and Locations! Hopefully this helps clear up some of the questions surrounding them. Note that if you're using the archived escapades, a lot of them didn't make it passed introductions so that is why they may have only 0-1 star grades.
As well! A bigger change: You can now use pokemon in escapades concurrently with your journey threads! At least, until the escapade is being graded. We just like to keep XP gain as simple as possible, so as long as when the escapade is being graded the participating pokemon are not actively in a battle we don't mind if they're being RPd in multiple places :3 It's up to you to keep your timelines straight ;D
We're currently working on generalizing more of the prompts so hope to have another update for you all in the near future.
