Finally, she was here.
New Bark Town wasn't as much of a town as it was a budding city, but the semantics didn't mean a whole lot to Jess. What mattered was that she was out of Unova, taking her first day to collect herself - and her pokemon. She'd loitered outside of the lab until it was an acceptable hour to collect her Charmander, and the fire type had the audacity to ladder her tights whilst trying to hold on to her leg. Ugh. Whatever. Her own fault for wearing tights on the first day of her adventure, but they kept her legs warm for the time being.
Jess looked down at the charmander, somewhat unimpressed - the fire type had insisted on walking next to her even after they'd left the lab, but held onto it's tail as if the gusting winds would put it's tail out. She had to hand it to him, though - he was baring just fine under the weather so far. No words were exchanged as they made it out towards the route to the west, though at one point Jess had pulled out her map to set a route. Left it was; they could skip through all of the extraneous towns and cities along the way and head straight to Cherrygrove, perhaps gather a few more Pokémon on the way, but first and foremost - that charmander was going to get trained.
As they continued, the Charmander had tried to catch her attention a few times, practicing an ember - but his first attempt failed horribly, spluttering out immediately in the wind.
"Keep working on it. Even if we have to burn every bug we see on the way, you're gonna be at least twice as strong before we get to the next dump."
Where would she even find Team Rocket, anyway? She'd come here practically blind, based on rumours and hear-say. Maybe she ought to get a few badges before applying, because based on her current... total of one, young Pokémon, the chances they'd be remotely interested were probably null.

Route 29 was probably not very impressive in Jess's eyes either, there were a bit of forest and a bit of grass, and a lot of pidgeys getting swooped around by the wind. The road itself were also rather quiet as it was a weekday and most kids were at school and the adults at work, this time a day. Wild pokemon on the other hand, usually stayed in a safe distance to the main roads used by human, so beside the pidgeys doing acrobatics in the air more or less willingly, there weren't much of interest in the area. There would have been a chance to challenge a wurmple or two, if Korialstrasz's attempt to make embers hadn't chased them away. Even the most inexperienced of them knew to avoid fire and they only saw a flash of red as the worms disappeared into hiding. Jess would have to leave the safe and well traveled road if she wanted some action, but then she wouldn't have to wait for long. Not long from the road, actually so close that the sound of their confrontation could be heard out there. To most it would just be a background sound of wildlife shuffling through the undergrowth and nagging at each other. Should Jess and Korialstrasz follow the sound, they would find a tree, which had half fallen and was leaning against another. Below it a bunch of rattatas were present and they were too busy with their own problems to notice any new arrivals. In their center a strange looking rattata was present, it was beige in color instead of the usual purple one. It wasn't exactly pretty as its ears were chippen, it had some scars and its highly held tail was uneven like it had been broken at some point. At its feet another rattata was laying shakingly and the rest of the flock, upon closer inspection looked rather nervous around it. It jumped at another rattata which scrambled back wards but as the shiny one continued forward, it threw itself on its back in a display of submission, but the bully rattata loomed over it and continued to threat it. A shiny rattata [lvl 6] is bullying some other rattatas. What will Jess do?Weather: Gusting (tailwind)Shiny: ZgYaLheX1-421-42

Stupid birds. One had almost clipped into Jess as it sailed past, flung into the far winds like some child's lost balloon. Only... she'd known she'd wanted one, once, back when she was more naïve. She paused briefly, but the bird was already gone by the time she'd gone to turn to her charmander. Well, damn, blink and you miss it.
Jess sighed, lowering her arm. Korialstrasz had seemed to see where her eyes had travelled to, and had ran ahead a few steps, but like his trainer realised the bird would be long gone before he could muster enough of a fire to roast the thing. Things wouldn't take as easily in this weather, he knew, but it wouldn't stop him from trying when he had the chance. Maybe if they found somewhere a bit more sheltered... then he wouldn't have to worry about starting a wildfire or something.
His trainer frowned, smoothing down hair that never quite stuck in place, and pressed ahead. Her eyes could pick out the occasional flash of red, but the Pokémon were too scared to face her, it seemed - but she didn't have to wait much longer. More noises drifted to them over the wind - not wingbeats, but the shuffling of chittering Pokémon, a brewing argument.
Hell yeah, a potential fight. Jess perked up with a small hum, then peered down at her charmander. Korialstrasz could benefit from that, and the fire type picked up his pace when Jess's long legs started picking their way over. A beeline towards the chaos, as it were. Her curiosity would be rewarded quickly enough when they came across a gang of rattata.
Those around the beige one seemed weak, but experience was experience - her eyes, however, had landed squarely (and thus firstly) on that beige rattata. Weird color - shiny, right? The rattata wasn't attractive by any means, but the scars spoke stories of their own. The tail might require surgery, unless evolution was likely to fix it, but from the looks of it it didn't hinder the rattata's movement too much.
Good, she could work with this. Could be a way to get the first badge down easier than before. She waited for it to lunge before she stepped closer, charmander at her heels. Jess raised her voice, loud enough to be heard - or hopefully catch the shiny rattata's attention.
"Hey, big guy, looking for a real challenge?"
Truthfully this would only be the first fight, but this guy looked strong enough. Korialstrasz stepped forward, tail swishing, and Jess was glad the weather had kept the flickering flame on his tail from catching the grass.
Should the rattata accept, then, the first order would be an ember. She'd whittle it down in time.

The whole flock of purple rattata started at the exact same time as Jess called out, the beige one flicked an ear and glanced in their direction but chose not to pay them any attention at first. It was busy with something else and the human and her pokemon would have to wait for their turn. It nipped the subdued one in the ear to make it flinch and first then it was pleased with the others submission. The purple rattata were clearly scared and shuffled around and looked like they wanted to run, but didn't dare. One bigger one seemed to decide this was too much and it turned around to run, only to be face to face with the beige rattata's sharp teeth, the attempted runaway covered and stayed where it was. The shiny rattata stepped in front of the group of normal looking, albeit very scared group of rattatas and pointly looked around. "Where is that challenge? I don't see any," It called out to Kor and looked the charmander and his trainer up and down with a very unimpressed look. Shiny pokemon usually were very sought after and for them to stay in the wild, they would either have to be really good at hiding, or really good at fighting. This rattata seemed to be the latter, or perhaps its scratched up skin just turned off a lot of interest since it wasn't as pretty to show off and some trainers might worry that other would think they were responsible for the scars. When it was clear that Kor was supposed to be the real challenge, the rattata huffed and almost looked like it was about to dismiss them, but then it spotted the flames which gathered in the charmander's mouth. The rattata was gone in a flash, and the next moment Kor was laying on his back after having gotten the wind knocked out of him. The rattata was strolling back to its subjects in the expectations that the fire lizard had been handled properly. Bit was its surprise when the embers came flying and singed its back, and it spun around with a furious look which made the rest of the rattata shied away convinced that this was going to be Kor's downfall. If there was one thing Jess couldn’t stand, it was a bully – and sometimes, that meant being the bigger threat. She rocked once on her heels and flared her nostrils in what might have been indignation at the lack of immediate response, fighting back the instinct to just run over and try and kick the thing sky high. Patience wasn’t one of her strengths, clearly. She placed her hands in her pockets, eyes glancing down to Kori and back up again. If it was hunkering for a fight, she could give it one.
Kori needed the experience anyway.
Had it not been for the fact the beige rattata was clearly dominating over the more nervous ones, Jess could have been fooled into thinking it was deaf. But that was fine – she could handle a challenge. She’d never show it outwardly, but something in the subdued rattata did provoke a twinge of sympathy. The least she could do would be taking the beige one’s attention away from it – might have at least improved the situation… or give them the room to run.
When the Rattata finally deigned to look her way, she raised her chin and puffed up with one of the cockiest smirks she’d been capable of recently.
“Yeah, over here. Don’t tell me all the fights you’ve been in got to your head too.”
She didn’t need words to understand. She’d seen creatures like this before; this one just walked on four legs instead of two.
Kori on the other hand seemed to have been emboldened by his trainer’s spirit, and was now puffed up and raring to go. “We’re over here you big blind egg!”
Perhaps trying to get things started, Kori had even pre-emptively gathered fire to his maw. Jess would certainly keep an eye on that. That… would be useful, once she got into the swing of things. The first attacks exchanged were a show of force that Jess would remember for some time to come, however. Kori had practically careened into the brush, and Jess gritted her teeth, hand over her Pokéball. Quick Attack. Rough work. Perhaps a critical hit?
But then something amazing happened.
Kori clearly wasn’t done yet, and had sprung back up – even between breaths, still recovering, he still had the energy to strike the Rattata’s back.
“Good job,” Jess praised; for the first time in their journey, it felt real. The wind almost howled in similar triumph, an echo of emotion. “Right, second wind, go for a growl! Clearly, he needs a lesson.”
Jess’s words were calm, but she’d already started on a plan. Of what moves she knew of her Charmander so far, well… the options were minimal, but she could work with it. Should the growl hit, her next port of call was to go for Ember again, if he wasn’t in range – scratch if he was. A burn would lower his attack even more, and at that point, it became a battle to outlast each other.
“Let’s show him what we’ve got,” Jess murmured; regardless of if the Rattata or even Kori heard, it wasn’t for them.
Once the fight had begun, she pointedly peered at the more nervous Rattatas and then gestured to the forest behind them; they were more than free to leave if she could distract the bully, and she didn’t need additional complications.
(OOC: Shortening’s fine! Also, been a year, if I’m missing anything lmk. I’m super rusty formatwise. Not sure if the scyther egg in Jess’s possession counts yet re: the word count thing, or if it has to be there in characterly to count or how we'd even go ahead there, but if it counts already... well, 580 words this post. 400 is max.))

The cream colored rattata looked Jess up and down but didn't give any other reaction to what she said, it turned its attention back at Kori when she backed up her trainer verbally. It huffed and would have ignored them if Kori hadn't been about to attack, a quick attack and an ember later, they had its full attention. It glared at them as its fury burned coldly in its eyes. "Egg? Is that the best you can come up with?" the Rattata scoffed, "you look like you can't even beat an egg if you tried, can you even think for yourself or are you just a spineless follower."It held its head high and glanced back at the purple flock behind it, they all duck their head when it looked at them, subdued and terrorized to do its bidding. "You know, I could send this pathetic bunch at you all at once if I wanted to," it threatened maliciously but so no reason to do that at the moment. It began circling Kori, its head held low as a predator sneaking in on its prey while its eyes never left the fire type. It jumped towards Kori, only to break off and start circling again several times as it skin attacked to rattle her. It smirked as it toyed with her, at one point she'd break down and lash out, or run. It jumped again, but this time it didn't break off and it slammed into her and threw her to the ground and placed itself on top of her, challenging her to try stand up again. She growled and it laughed, the move worked perfectly as it was kind of cute sounding and it relaxed more, expecting her to be an even easier opponent than it had first thought. The rattata glanced at Jess but none of them moved a muscle. They all believed that their leader would win this battle and probably include Kori in its growing flock, keeping them all under tight control. If they tried to run now, it would just mean the Shiny Rattata would hunt them down and punish them for disobeying. Jess furrowed her brow as she assessed the situation once again, her hands resting firmly on her hips. At least in terms of numbers the odds were stacked against them – though she doubted the scared little rattata would get involved either way, they were wild Pokémon and that presented a problem. Was Kori up to the challenge? Looking at all of the scars and the cracked tail on the beige Rattata – well, maybe they’d be alright, maybe not. Maybe the tail was a weak spot, but it looked old enough that the Rattata seemed to be able to battle fine. Which, speaking of... Kori was getting battered, but he was hanging on. His eyes shot over to Jess the moment she moved to hover one hand near her Pokéballs and he snorted, a flicker of a remnant of the ember dying in front of his snout. This was his time to prove his worth, and he wasn’t about to let it slip away. ”Well, you do smell like a rotten egg, so pardon me for not wanting to touch you,” Kori scoffed back at the shiny rattata, tail swishing. Even as he was being circled, his little orange face scrunched up in determination. Ignoring the chill of unease racing up his spine, he focused instead on the task at hand. Taking a page out of his mother’s book, he readjusted his position, lowering his head slightly to get his centre of gravity just right. The flames at his tail flickered, barely missing setting the grass behind him alight. The pressure was rising alongside his temper. If he couldn’t even win first battle, his trainer wouldn’t think much of him. He’d end up boxed or abandoned or replaced, and he didn’t want that. That’s only what happened to the bad starters, and Kori wasn’t bad at all. Kori bristled again as the Rattata suddenly lunged forward, tail swishing around like a flail as if to protect him – but the Rattata seemed to duck back. “And- and just because I agree with my trainer doesn’t mean I’m weak like you must be. Is that how you get control? Fear? Do you think bullying these Rattata will make them like you? ‘Cause that won’t work.”Another lunge and his tail swished again. At this angle, he could see his trainer from the corner of his eye. How was she so calm? “They’ll just leave you when a bigger fish lands in the pool-” He didn’t get to finish. The Rattata was clearly done with the taunting or, perhaps, had simply taken the opening – because the next moment he was on his back again, feeling rather like he’d been hit by a wall. No. Not now. Face to face with the ugly bully of a thing, he struggled against the weight, something like stars behind his eyes. This wasn’t over. He wouldn’t prove he was incompetent to his trainer today. His snout wrinkled in anger, nostrils flared. He flashed his fangs – even on his back, and despite the odds, he was going to fight with everything he had and he was not going to give up. Debating the same odds, Jess reached to her Pokeballs. But… “Kori, Ember. Give it all you’ve got.” Easier said than done, Kori rocked back and inhaled what oxygen he could – then sent an ember directly upwards, aiming for the Rattata’s face - and following the path of the tailwind. +400 word count to the scyther egg+200 word count to the Nidoran M egg – should be ready to hatch now, just unsure of how to incorporate this lil guy into Jess’s travels. Noticed Kori was accidentally referred to as a ‘she’ in the last post and just wanted to clarify he’s a dude - so please let me know if I misunderstood anything replywise and I’ll edit accordingly. c: Not sure how to introduce anyone else, either, or her Rolycoly would be coming out next in the event Kori fainted. Still under newbie rules despite how long I’ve been here I think as this is the farthest ive gotten on my one character so far, ope. Could use some guidance tbh. Willing to work with mods to introduce the rest of these guys in travels. Could be a good time to introduce one of them ICly considering what's going on! RolycolyName: Rhyolith Gender: Male Level: 10 OT: Dorthea Lund Moves: Smokescreen, Tackle, Block EM, Smack Down Ability: Steam Engine Nature/Personality: Well-spoken and yet stubborn, Rhyolith has learned to rely solely on himself. He can be a stubborn old rock, unwilling to follow orders he disagrees with and sticking firmly to his beliefs, even if they aren’t the popular view. His own personal code of honour comes before all else. As a result of being traded so frequently, he is fiercely protective of his own space, becoming defensive and agitated when it is invaded. In turn, he can be quick to assume that others will abandon him as well, which he resents – and can likely become defensive or even aggressive towards others as a result of that. Although Rhyolith may be wary of new trainers, once he does find someone he trusts, he is fiercely loyal to them. He may go to great lengths to protect his chosen trainer or teammates, no matter the cost. Particularly of note is that he does have a protective nature of young ones, especially those that have been abandoned. Whilst he can be stern and grumpy, he is not cruel. ShellderName: Azshara Gender: Female Level: 8 OT: Zaiden J.D. Kabila Moves: Tackle, Water Gun, Withdraw, Ice Shard Ability: Skill Link Nature/Personality: Azshara is a shellder of many secrets. She prefers to stay out of the limelight, hiding away in the shadows and calculating the situation without revealing much about herself. Although she is not prone to outwards displays of strong emotions, she can become more withdrawn when trying to deal with them. Azshara struggles to connect with others and wishes to remain independent. Despite her preference for privacy, Azshara deeply desires admiration and adoration for her beauty and elegance. A coordinator’s Pokémon at heart, she harbours some insecurities about not being the most popular of water types. She will go to great lengths to show off her artistry – even if she has to pull a few strings... Vanity aside, she is not necessarily selfish or mean-spirited, but will likely come to see the whole Team Rocket business as a job and nothing more. Her manipulative streak and her ambitious nature are likely to be nurtured as weapons by Jess, knowingly or otherwise.

The wild Rattata didn’t care about Korialstrasz’ retorts when he looked like he was on his last legs. It only cared about winning the fight and proving itself to the other Rattata’s. Not because it needed to prove itself to anyone, since it was obviously the strongest and most capable Rattata out here. It needed to keep the others in line so that they knew the natural pecking order of things around here. “I can smell all I want to you.” Rattata snapped firmly, digging its small paws into the dirt underneath its feet. “Because you’re no walk in the part with your odor either, mister!” Rattata responded, laughing as it sneered at Kori. It ran over to the other Pokemon and spun around to slap its tail against Kori’s face several times. For such a weakling as this baby lizard, the furry beige rodent couldn’t think of anything else that it needed to do to take it out. Oh, sure! It could tackle the other Pokemon to oblivion and back. It was positive another hit would easily knock its opponent out. But since it was full of its own ego and self-esteem, it figured that could would better prove its own toughness by simply whiplashing the other Pokemon into compliance. Then the other Rattata would know better! They would all fear it unconditionally and do exactly as it said every time! “Fear keeps them complaint! Ain’t no other bigger fish around here! Take a good, hard look, will ya?! I’m the biggest fish there is!” It snapped firmly. Korialstrasz’ embers would hit the shiny rodent in its butt, causing the Rattata to run away temporarily while screaming. “Oh! My butt! Oww oww, that stings! I gotta poop from that you know, mister!” The Rattata spun around angrily, backing up to put some formal distance between them once more. This overgrown lizard thought that it was going to pull a fast one with those flames that it could spout from its mouth! How dare it! “Pay attention, Rattata kind!” The bully chattered to the others, turning its head around to stare at all the scared rodents that watched quietly on to see who would be victor. “And let this be a lesson to any of ya’s who think ya can just not listen to your leader!” It reminded them firmly. Wanted to explain to ensure you knew. When there are multiple eggs in a party, the max amount of words that can be applied is divided between them. Only Nurseries /Daycare give full word counts of max allotted amount per post to multiple eggs. However, you've set your Rolycoly's ability to Steam Engine so it looks like you may already know this? Both Pokemon here would get 400 words each.
Also New Player Protection applies until you've gotten your first badge, no matter how long you take on your journey. Faint a Pokemon, you can still catch them. Until you get your first badge.
