Peb was feeling pretty good about this battle, almost guilty. Suddenly however, he found his central eye get splashed with dirt and sand. He teetered back and forth, unable to see! Trying to shake the stuff from his eyes with rapid movements he moved forward to attack. He did a usual leap and plummet, only to faceplant in the ground. The pidgey was now above him! When Peb looked up he realized he must've picked the wrong spot due to the sand in his eyes! This fight wouldn't be so easy after all.
Sloane gasped at the new development. The boy had heard right, now that the Pidgey was darting about in the air, Peb would only be able to hit it if he could get in range. Sure Peb held the type advantage, but he was by no means guaranteed a win. Sloane stepped forward and focused carefully, looking for a way that Peb could hit the flying Pokemon. She noticed a tall stump. Pointing to it she barked.
"Peb! Hop up on that stump and try to hit it! You'll need to jump high, use tackle!" Sloane called. Peb nodded, making a dutiful growl of agreement. As he leaped onto the stump he sprung upward upon stubby feet toward the Pidgey. He could jump remarkably high and if the sand in his eyes didn't hinder his attempt to hit the Pidgey he just might do it!

Mikey laughed out loud when Peb fell flat on his face. "It's working! We're going to win this!" He exclaimed happily and his pidgey chirped its agreements as it soared above and enjoyed being the strong one for once. The rattata had laid down and only its twitching ears showed it was not sleeping. When Sloane was too busy to really answer his questions, the boy turned back to his play pretend from before, he wasn't good at just watching and giving orders, his brain was in overdrive most of the time. "Now the enemy is blinded the Bird Protector finished it off with a mighty tackle!" He declared with a big grin and imagined how a big version of his pidgey would sent Peb flying into the air like you saw in cartoons. Pidgey dived but its tackle was far from as spectacular as it had been in Mikey's head, Peb staggered a step back and pidgey hopped a few times one the ground before getting airborne again. Mikey's mouth dropped open when Sloane showed incredible creativity and quickly adjusted to the new situation by using their surroundings. Peb looked like he had done nothing else in his life than jumping off tree stumps and whacking birds out of the sky, he timed it perfectly and the pidgey squawked surprised when he suddenly came flying towards it and knocked it to the ground. "How.. how did you teach it that?" Mikey asked impressed. Sloane pumped her fist, but then paused, realizing how much she was getting into this. She had set out to be a great archaeologist, not to get competitive with battles! Still, she couldn't admit she was liking the tension, or perhaps just that she had the advantage. She had hoped her idea would work, and it did. Peb was not to be underestimated! Still though, Butterscotch was a bit new to the team, once Peb got another hit in she would get a turn. She looked up to note the boy's surprise. He was a new trainer like her. It was possible that she had some promise to be a good trainer. She humored the idea, and then shrugged it off.
"I...I don't know, I just thought it was a good idea!" Sloane turned to notice a mound of dirt near the Pidgey. Peb had taken two hits now, that and he was blinded. She wanted to swap him out and give him a break, but she knew she would lose Butterscotch if she did that. She nodded at Peb, a silent request for him to just hang in there a little longer. She pointed toward the dirt mound, making it clear that it resembled a sort of ramp.
"Alright Peb, run up that mound and use tackle again! You can do it!" She called. It was then that she stopped to consider how this would go down. She had never used Butterscotch, Butterscotch wasn't like Sloshy either. She was a wild Pokémon. It was possible she would ignore her trainer, or worse, attack upon being released. Sloane sighed and turned her eyes back to the battle. She would have to take risks if she hoped to brave the ruins and excavation sites. There would be trainers and pokemon there too.

Mikey frowned confused at Sloane's answer. "You don't know how you trained it?" He asked, that sounded really strange to him, a trainer who didn't know how they trained their pokemon and taught them new things? Mikey himself wasn't an expert in pokemon training, it was just a game to him afterwards, but he did know he trained his pokemon to be faster by getting them to run, and he had been trying to teach his pidgey gust by getting it to flap harder with its wings, which they hadn't succeeded with yet. "Aren't you training your pokemon?" He added confused. When Sloane gave her order Mikey got a determined look on his face. "We won't fall for it twice! Pidgey! Don't get close!" He warned and Peb's run up of the mound and into the air was fruitless since the pidgey wasn't anywhere near him. Silence fell for a few moments as Peb got back on his feet and Pidgey flapped around high in the air, and Mikey slowly realized that Pidgey could keep its distance, but then he wouldn't be able to attack either. After some more minutes he begrudgingly came to the conclusion he would have to risk getting Pidgey close if he wanted to set in an attack. "Tackle it! But be quick!" He ordered and his bird dived. Peb heard the flapping of the wings and turned to meet his attacker. The collision sent them both tumbling to the ground, with loose feathers swirling in the air. "Are you okay Pidgey?" Mikey called worried and got a determined confirmation from his bird, still on the ground and trying to figure out what was up and down. "Yeah but uh...I just met Peb today. I didn't teach him anything like that..." She paused and looked at Peb. Even tried and blinded, Peb charged up the hill and slammed right into the Pidgey. By now she suspected it was time to give Butterscotch a chance. The Pidgey was looking very weakened, and she could only hope Butterscotch would listen and obey. Sloane Reached into her bag and produced Peb's Poke ball.
"Alright, I think this isn't the fairest fight, we should let both sides do their best! Peb, return!" She called, pulling him back into the Poke ball. After placing it back inside of her bag she grabbed Buttersctoch's Poke Ball. She frowned at it, a bit anxious. She wasn't worried of losing the fight, even if she lost that would just be a minor setback and a learning experience. This was Butterscotch's first fight as an owned Pokemon. If she lost this one, it could hurt her pride. Sloane took in a deep breath and tossed the Pokeball. "Butterscotch, go!"
As Butterscotch appeared she looked around, in surprise. She then looked up at Sloane, scowling in resentment. "What's going on?!" She scoffed, looking over at the Pidgey. Butterscotch sighed, she had seen trainers use Pokemon before. She was still mad about being betrayed by her friend and then beaten up by Sloshy and Peb. However, she had always envied Pokemon who went on adventures. She didn't like Sloane, but she wanted to go on an adventure, so she'd give it her all.
"Butterscotch...um...use scratch!" Sloane squeaked anxiously. Butterscotch made a grunt of acceptance and charged toward the Pidgey. She propped herself up on her tail and came forth with a relentless swipe!

"So your mom trained him? My mom trained Rattata before giving him to me, but she says I have to learn how to do it on my own with Pidgey," Mikey told readily and didn't think it weird at all that the roggenrola was trained to do some cool moves which just happened to fit right into the situation. "It's not?" Mikey asked confused as Sloane said it wasn't a fair fight, he tried to figure out how it wasn't, his Pidgey had done pretty good, hadn't it? Perhaps Sloane thought her roggenrola couldn't keep up with his awesome pokemon? Yeah! That had to be it. Mikey grinned. "You hear that Pidgey? She thinks you are too strong for this match!" Mikey said eagerly and the otherwise rather tired looking pidgey brightened up and proudly puffed out its chest feathers. "Hurry now! Use tackle and win this!" Mikey urged excited and Pidgey rushed forward to do his bidding, but instead of meeting the rockhard side of Peb, it tumbled into the soft fur of Butterscotch and sent the sentret rolling backwards and into Sloane's legs. Mikey took a moment to realize what had happened. "A sentret!" He then exclaimed when he recognized it, "my friend has a plushy Sentret! Did you know how big they become when they evolve? I have heard they grow as big as charizards!" Mikey said impressed although Butterscotch was far from that, both in strength and size, that tackle had hit hard! Mikey was thinking hard on what to do next, but if Sloane had thought that Peb had been at disadvantage and Butterscotch was stronger, he better be careful. "Use Sand Attack Pidgey!" That had worked wonders last time and Mikey had thought it had been so fun seeing Peb faceplanting. Pidgey loyally landed and kicked a spray of dirt right at Butterscotch, but the sentret just ignored it and leaped in close to deliver her scratching. "Darn, it looked through it this time," Mikey said obliviously, "it'll work next time I'm sure!"Wild Encounter Weather: Blooming (Clear) [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Pidgey LV 5 HP 5% [1/20] [attr="class","qkt-wild-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-pkmn"] [attr="class","qkt-clip"]Butterscotch LV 3 HP 43% [7/16] [attr="class","qkt-trainer-imgbox"] [attr="class","qkt-pkmn-img"] Mikey's Pidgey [Keen Eye]: Normal Sloane's Buttersctch [Keen Eye]: Normal <Butterscotch switched in, Pidgey used Tackle, Pidgey used Sand Attack, Butterscotch used Scratch> Note: Peb has participated 62% HP (15/24)

Sloane watched, anticipating Butterscotch to make an attack, but...slam! She was hit by the bird at full speed! Before Sloane could react Butterscotch tumbled into her legs, sweeping them out from under her. Sloane collapsed, faceplanting into the dirt as Butterscotch recovered. The Sentret scoffed and decided to try her attack again. Butterscotch did not seem to have a high opinion of her trainer. Sloane hadn't even healed her after the last fight she was in! How irresponsible! Sloane stood and wiped some grass and dirt from her face. Apparently while she had been down Butterscotch landed the hit! Pidgey took it though, Sloane was surprised at the Pokemon's endurance. Butterscotch folded her stubby arms, as if bored, waiting for Sloane to catch up.
Butterscotch turned back toward the Pidgey, almost sweeping Sloane's feet out from under her with another tail swish. She charged toward the Pidgey, but staggered a little. She had been hit bad, really bad. Sloane sighed and withdrew Butterscotch. "I'm sorry, we'll figure this out Butterscotch!"
"Hm I never expected to fight such a tough trainer..." Sloane said, rubbing her chin. She reached into her pocket and produced Sloshy's Poke ball. She nodded and tossed it. "Sloshy go!"
As Sloshy emerged he sprayed Sloane with a blast of water. She wailed and staggered a bit, soaking wet now.
"Sloshy!?" She snapped. The Squirtle smirked, proud of his work. She growled, this wasn't the time for a lecture! She turned and pointed. "Sloshy! Use water gun!" Sloshy got down on all fours and prepared his attack obediently. He was always up for some fighting!

Mikey gasped horrified when Butterscotch toppled over Sloane and he hit his face in his hand. "I'm sorry! It wasn't on purpose!" He called out certain he would get scolded for being the reason of that accident, even if it wasn't planned. Pidgey on the other hand chirped laughingly and felt pretty good at being this strong and being able to push its opponents around. When Sloane mumbled something, Mikey peeked out between his fingers and noticed she was back up on her feet. She looked alright but Mikey still feared he was to blame. "Are you okay?" He called out to Sloane and quickly added "I'm sorry," again. "Woah! You got a squirtle?!" Mikey exclaimed when Sloshy appeared, "you are so lucky!"The pure awe in his voice made rattata's face darken and it lifted its head to glare jaloux at Sloshy. The Pidgey looked hurt and glanced back at Mikey, who was swooning over Sloane's water type. Mikey was pulled out of it by Sloshy's reaction and he laughed out loud at the squirtle's antics. That had looked really fun! Mikey's pokemon just seemed confused about it as they didn't understand why he had done so to his own trainer. "Quick Pidgey! Tackle while its still busy!" Mikey called out and Pidgey dived and slammed into Sloshy's hard side before he got a chance to turn around. "Again! Again! Again!" Mikey shouted half panicked, half excited. Sloshy by now had gotten down on all four and was warming up, Pidgey had found the shell a bit too hard to slam into and aimed at a softer spot on the squirtle: his head. It flew straight into his face, pushing his head back into the shell, but then Sloshy retaliated and from inside blasted his jet of water which sent the pidgey whirling through the air and over a shocked Mikey. The bird landed like deadweight on the ground. "Pidgey!" Mikey shouted worried and ran to see how it was doing. Rattata got to its feet and stepped forward to face Sloane and her pokemon, this was not over yet. Sloshy seemed quite proud of his work. He addressed the jealous stares of the Pidgey and Rattata with a smug nod. This Squirtle was well aware of the fact that he was hard to come by. Even if his trainer didn't seem to appreciate that. Sloshy was hopping back and forth from foot to foot, as the Pidgey went down he grinned, showing teeth. Of course that had been easy! He was a really powerful Pokemon!
Sloane however, felt a bit guilty for not being too grateful for Sloshy. As her whole body dripped, a puddle soon formed under her from all of the leftovers of Sloshy's wonderful unrequested attack. She stood upright, her wet her flopping about. "Good job Sloshy, come back, go Butterscotch!"
Sloshy seemed surprised at first by the compliment. After his actions he almost felt guilty to have her be nice to him. He was quick to make a grumpy expression as he was returned forcibly to his Poke Ball. Sloane produced Butterscotch's Pokeball and sent her out. Sloane knew this was a big risk. If the Rattata managed to take her down in a hit that would be awful for her pride. Still, she needed to have more experience to avoid falling behind. Sloane would only meet stronger trainers as she got farther on her journey. Sloane then produced a potion from her bag as well as the reusable spray-lid she got with her pack. She clipped on a potion and sprayed the purple fluid out onto Butterscotch. The Sentret flailed a moment, but then she looked like she felt better, looking up in confusion at her trainer. The Pokemon gave a slight nod of thanks.

Mikey fidgeted nervously when Sloane didn't answer his question, she did look to be alright after the fall, but she had to be really angry if she gave him the cold shoulder. Oh man he had gotten himself into some real trouble here. He forgot it again when Sloshy appeared and Sloane getting soaked. "Pidgey? Are you alright?" Mikey asked worried as he kneeled beside his fainted bird, who didn't answer, "please Pidgey! Answer me!" He begged as tears swelled in his eyes. His rattata glanced back and looked to be torn whether to comfort the boy or take over the battle since it was still ongoing. It noticed Sloane healing Butterscotch and made a decision to try both, ending the battle quickly so it could get over and help the distraught boy and reassure him that his bird would be fine. Butterscotch turned to face the rattata but it was gone! Something slammed into her side and sent her tumbling to the ground, the rattata followed and was full of dust when it leaped back to its feet, galring at Butterscotch like this was all her fault. The sentret felt almost as bad as before she got the potion, but she was also rather young and needed the strength which many of the other pokemon had, and which Sloane had helped build up in Peb. Behind them Mikey had begun crying for real, scared that Pidgey was still unconscious and fearing the worst. Sloane was focusing so hard on trying to get Butterscotch to get experience that she was ignoring this poor guy. She winced as her Pokemon was hit hard. Butterscotch clearly wasn't ready for a serious trainer battle! Sloane withdrew her, knowing she wouldn't last long. She sent Sloshy back out, and prepared to make another command, and to dodge another unrequested blow from her own Pokemon, when she noticed Mikey was in tears.
She looked at Sloshy who awkwardly awaited his turn. She then looked over to the child crying over his fainted Pokemon. Sloane waved her hands in panic and struggled to speak. "H-hey it's alright! Your Pokemon is just fine! Have you never had them faint before? Pidgey is gonna be just fine, you need to bring it to the Pokecenter and it'll be okay!"
She said this despite not knowing if that was true or not. After all, she had been very careful not to let her own Pokemon faint, even resorting to items. She had simply heard that Pokemon would be okay if they reached a Pokecenter. She wouldn't have started to battle with them had she not been sure about this. "I'm fine too! I've just been really focused on the battle, you've got me on the ropes!"
She chuckled. Perhaps her team was stronger and she was having trouble using an inexperienced Pokemon, but Sloane was on the ropes in a sense. Sloshy however was getting bored. He stepped forward and vomited forth a water gun at the Rattata.
"Sloshy! Hold on!" Sloane growled.

"But it doesn't moooove!" Mikey wailed hugging himself beside the pidgey and rocking back and forth right until Sloane mentioned the pokemon center. That made him pause and look like all his problems had just been solved. "Yes! The pokemon center! I have to go now!" He said confused and crawled to his knee to gently lay a hand on his pidgey, it groaned and moved a bit. "Pidgey!" Mikey exclaimed relieved and then gently scooped it up into his arms, it chirped quietly and opened an eye, Mikey buried his face into its feathers and it watched him in slight confuse while the boy cried from relief. Mikey certainly hadn't tried his pokemon fainting before when he reacted like this. Rattata glanced back and looked pleased, it was trained to be the protector of the boy and it could handle things on its own if necessary. Even in this area kids could run into trouble with wild pokemon, although none had been as challenging as Sloane's of course. Rattata was gone in a blurr as well while Sloshy became more and more bored, Rattata had hoped to be quick enough to knock out Butterscotch but Sloshy had already taken her place so it was him the Quick Attack connected with squritle. Sloshy staggered back, it hadn't been that tough of an attack but he could still feel the remains from the last battle with the Pidgey, he had to give it all he got and the Water Gun he wormited was the biggest he had ever done! Rattata coughed and staggered back up on its feet after the water had soaked it and thrown it to the ground, it shook some of the water from its fur, and then ran forward to tackle Sloshy, at this point it didn't manage the speed it had put on earlier. Now both pokemon were panting hard, this would be over soon. Sloane smiled, relieved that Mikey understood Pidgey was gonna be okay. She was glad that at least this had happened to him during a battle with her so she could explain it. If a wild pokemon had knocked Pidgey out Mikey would have to find out a much more difficult way. However, the intense battle below them got her attention quick. While she had been looking at the young boy and his wounded friend, Sloshy had decided to just act on his own! Both he and the Rattata were really wounded. Sloane realized again that her trainer intuition was pretty good for a new trainer, as she noticed the Rattata was faster. At least that move it was using made it act first. Sloshy would be knocked out if she didn't switch him out. Sloshy didn't seem to understand this, and was excited to finish Rattata off with another water gun.
"Alright Sloshy, good job." As she pulled out his Pokeball to return him Sloshy gasped and then did a raspberry at her. She then tossed Peb's pokeball, letting him have the floor again. Trainer battles were not at all like wild Pokemon battles! She was on the ropes the whole time when battling a trainer. As Peb was sent out he immediately turned to Sloane for guidance.
"You don't need to take it back right away, Pidgey is definitely fine, let's finish this battle! Peb, use tackle!" She called, pointing. Peb charged forward, a sort of low grumble coming from him. He still lacked confidence, which could be seen in the fact that the big hole in his face closed up. It was like an eye closed, braced for impact.

What Sloshy might hadn't noticed yet, Rattata certainly did and it felt secure that one more round and that stupid-grinning squirtle would be biting the dust! It forced its protesting muscles into action and rushed forward only for Sloshy to disappear right in front of its eyes and it running straight into the hard outer of Peb instead. It rubbed its sore nose and glared at the roggenrola, as if it was his fault that the ratatta had now missed its victory. It was only halfhearted that it tackled Peb and it didn't do much, when Peb retaliated and pushed the rat into the dust, it had had enough and surrendered. It gave a nod to Peb as acknowledge of his superior strength and winning of the battle and then it scurried back to its trainer. Mikey lifted his head from his pidgey after Rattata had nudged him several times and first now he was calm enough to give Sloane an answer. "No!" He said determined, "I need to go now! I don't want Pidgey to be hurt!"He got to his feet, which was hard with his arms full of tired bird and him not being used to carry it. He murmured to Pidgey a few times and then walked over to Sloane. "I'm sorry but I can't continue the battle, mom always says I need to take good care of my pokemon and Pidgey needs to see Nurse Joy," He said apologetically but looked as determined as before. He managed to get a hand free and pulled some money from his pocket. "Here, I give you this instead, okay?" He said and would force them into Sloane's hands before he promised his bird that he was going to take good care of it and set the course back towards Cherrygrove. Rattata followed limping but Mikey only had eyes for his bird and had noticed how his other pokemon looked. Peb finished the battle and grows +2 level to [lvl 9]! He learns Stealth Rock! [Sloshy will forget tail whip]
"A-ah?" Sloane was a bit stunned and flustered as the boy forced money into her hands and ran off. Well...that was a Pokemon battle. He had seemed pretty upset to lose, Sloane almost felt she had done something wrong. She had to be ready to handle others losing to her team, or vice versa if she was going to explore and see any ruins. She pocketed the money, feeling it was an unnecessary gesture, but perhaps this was just how trainers did dealings. She smiled and put Peb on her shoulder.
"You did great Peb! You've improved a lot since we met!" She frowned at Butterscotch's Pokeball. Perhaps she would get more experience if her trainer was mindful of her. Sloane clutched the Pokeball, determined to make sure that Butterscotch was a valued part of her adventure. She put Sloshy and Butterscotch's Pokeballs back inside her bag. As she kept walking she noticed there was thick fog that had gathered during the battle. She was more than a little worried. Her team had taken serious punishment and she had no idea what sort of horrible wild Pokemon could emerge during the fog.
She was relieved to see the lights of a city in the distance. She charged ahead, not waiting for any scary Pokemon to catch her in the fog. As she stumbled by a sign on the side of the road read: "Cherrygrove City". From all of the pink trees, well those not obscured by the fog, Sloane could infer that she had reached the city with cherry trees as its namesake. She smiled at Peb again and decided to head to the Pokecenter as Mikey was doing. All of her Pokemon needed a much deserved rest!
