After healing up her Pokemon at the Pokecenter, Sloane decided to explore Cherrygrove. She had heard that sometimes the streets of cities in Jhoto had wild Pokemon walking around! Unova's cities were so industrial and full of concrete that Pokemon rarely decided to hang around. In the far less modern region of Jhoto, culture of a time long past could be seen everywhere. What strange Pokemon would she find here that could coexist with humans? She got out an umbrella to protect her from the rainfall.
Sploosh! Sloane stepped into the flooding street. About six inches of water greeted her as she stepped off of a curb. Her socks were instantly wet. She groaned and lifted her now heavier foot from the water. As she walked along the dry sidewalk her left shoe kept making splorchy sounds from being full of water. She sent Butterscotch out of her Pokeball and held the sentret in her elbow.
"Alright Butterscotch, let's get down to business, I don't know what sorts of Pokemon are gonna be here, but let's do our best!" Sloane marched, firing herself up to motivate Butterscotch. The Sentret just stared off into the rain with a grumpy look on her face.
The flooding had been bad on Cherrygrove, roads were flooding and water had gotten into peoples houses and not many gardens had survived being under water. Everything was muddy and soggy and people was doing their best to salvage what they could. Wild pokemon had also had it hard, their dens and nesting spots having been flooded and with fewer spots to find shelter the competition had become extra hard.
A young ekans had had a wonderful hole beneath a staircase but it was now full of mud so it had been on the lookout for another place to live. It wasn't an easy task when you were a young one who others could easily push around but it continued nevertheless, what else could it do? Sloane would see the ekans slither through a puddle and up some stairs to investigate a box which stood on top, only to be chased away by a zigzagoon a moment after. It raced down the stairs and turned to hiss at its attacker, but the zigzagoon wasn't following, it just wanted the box for itself. The snake got the unwanted attention of some spearows, who didn't like it at all since the snakes wouldn't shy back to eat some of their eggs if they got the chance. This was not the breeding season and it was highly doubtful that this particular ekans should have done such thing to them, but there was no reason for why it shouldn't later on.
The ekans was on the run again, slithering fast over the muddy ground and dodging back and forth to avoid the pecks of the birds. It did surprisingly well and the spearows turned around when they found themselves a bit too close to Sloane. The ekans was happy at first but then noticed the human as well, and curled up to hiss threateningly at her, everyone else had been hostile towards it, so why should she as well? It was not going to back down as that was the way it had come from and back towards the Spearows and the zigzagoon, and it accidently blocked Sloane's way forward.
An Ekans [lvl 5] is blocking your way and hissing.

Sloane smiled. Despite her discomfort at being sopping wet, the rain was beautiful. Sure, it was making everyone in Cherrygrove a bit miserable at the moment, but to Sloane this was just one eventful memory on her journey. She would look back at the flooding Cherrygrove city as one of the colorful moments of her travels, a story to tell to her family and friends! Well, to her family. Sloane moved to Jhoto without much care, she never made too many friends. Sloane shook her head, trying to stop thinking gloomy things. This was a wonderful journey full of-snakes!
Sloane wailed in terror and stepped backward a few times in panic. She could tell a poison type when she saw one. Once she had been bitten by a Venipede when she was young. She was sick for a week and had nightmares that she was going to turn into one of the Pokemon herself. When she wound started to turn purple she feared she had been right, but the doctor treated it and she was recovered soon after. The doctor hadn't recommended pecha berries, but Sloane was scared enough to eat them to try and fix her condition. She had an awful stomach ache and her head swam when she ate them, but maybe they helped! It was a bad memory, and since then she had always feared bug and poison types. The last thing she wanted was for this Ekans to get a chance to nibble her. She recalled Butterscotch and sent Peb forward.
"Peb! Use tackle!" Sloane ordered. She didn't feel bad using Peb on this horrible foe, he of all Pokemon would be able to shrug off it's attacks. Could Peb even get poisoned? He was sturdy! Poor Peb was shaking in fear. Sloane felt a pang of guilt, of course he wasn't ready to fight something as scary as an Ekans. "Peb go! You can do it!"
Peb closed his central eye and blindly charged at Ekans, ready to strike!
WILD ENCOUNTER! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The snake was cold and wet, and not really in a mood to fight anyone...all it wanted was a place to slip into and nap until this horrid rain was gone. It hadn't even noticed the Petrified trainer, not until she called upon a Pokemon, and it angled its mud covered body towards her. Was she referring to it for a fight? but it didn't feel like fighting. The Pokemon facing it even seemed scared. Its tongue flicked as its irritation grew. Why were humans so rash? Peb had been gathering the courage to follow his trainer's command, but Ekans' irritation had reached a peak. Its tail glew a bright purple before little Poison shards erupted from it, slamming into Peb who backed away out of fear. Yes that was right, back away! Humans and trained Pokemon were no good!
Peb didn't feel the effects at all, and that gave the little Roggenrola some confidence. He wheeled forwards again, daring to attack the Ekans. Ekans was slammed into, and man did it really really hurt?! Where had the little rock gotten such audacity? The Ekans raised its head. It was hurt, that was clear, but it looked at the Rock type with a new found rage. Sloane would have to dispatch of it as quickly as she could. -------------

As Peb rocked back and forth Sloane clenched her fist and smiled proudly. He had landed a solid hit. Perhaps Butterscotch would have a great chance now! This snake wasn't as scary as the Pokemon that Mikey had. It seemed that training a Pokemon really did make it stronger than a wild one! Holding out Peb's Pokeball Sloane returned him, swapping for Butterscotch and sending her out! The sentret flopped in the rising water, and shook to get the water off of her. Sloane spat and wiggled as the water went all over her. This flooding had failed to her umbrella, yet two of her Pokemon had soaked her within 24 hours!
"Butterscoootch! Buh-Butterscotch?" Sloane looked over in amusement now. Butterscotch had attempted to dry herself, but as soon as she did so her hair poofed outward comically. She looked round before, now she was just goofy looking. No...it wasn't time to laugh. Sloane could tell the snake was already ready to try...something! Sloane pointed. "Butterscotch! Uuuuuse Scratch!" Sloane made claw motions in the air. Butterscotch did not seem to find this funny, but lunged at her enemy, claws ready!
WILD ENCOUNTER! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ekans was confused by this girl as she retracted her Pokemon. She had recalled it, but what now? could it leave? No...she was sending out something else. Out of the ball plopped a nice plump...snack. The Ekans looked with wide narrowed eyes as the juicy Sentret shook itself of water. Oh, it needed that now. How long had it been since it last ate? too long. Butterscotch glanced at the Ekans, and noticed the look of a wild preadator. Glacing worriedly at Sloane, she didn't see the Ekans sidle up and wrap its body tightly around him. The squeezing hurt, and Butterscotch struggled in the snake's grip.
With a chirp she scratched the Ekans as hard as she could, but was rewarded only by a poison sting to the face. She suddenly didn't feel so good, and Sloane would notice her face was a little blue looking as the poison shuddered through her body and the snake didn't let go. But the Ekans to looked weak. Maybe with another attack, Butterscotch could break loose, and maybe it would scare the attacker off as well. -------------

Butterscotch only just finished her charge as she was trapped in the coils of the Ekans and then bit right in the face with a poisonous bite! Butterscotch was not only having trouble moving, but she grunted and shuddered. She did not look well, it had poisoned her! Sloane started to lose composure quickly. She had expected some roughhousing maybe, but this was way darker! Grabbing, biting, and poisoning?! All of her nightmares about poison pokemon reminded her that they were not to be taken lightly. Sloane covered her eyes and shivered, not wanting to even watch!
But she had to. She needed to see if Butterscotch was gonna be okay or if she needed to be switched out. She needed to get a closer, look and quickly! Kicking off her ruined shoes she slipped on the new tennis shoes the guide gent had given her. Rushing closer. She found focus suddenly and gave Butterscotch two commands using the running shoes.
"Butterscotch, use Scratch, and...and then again!"
Finally something was going in favor of the young ekans, it hadn't planned on eating right now but it wasn't going to say no when food offered itself so readily. With the prey caught and poisoned it just had to wait until it tired out and the poison did the job, and then it could eat. With a full stomach it would be able to last longer, it just needed to find a dry spot to digest which would be hard with the flooding going on but then it at least didn't have to worry about hunting. Its prey were a bit too active still and it bit down again in the hope of the poison working a bit faster and then it was ready to wait until its prey fell quiet, it wasn't like she could get any where with it wrapped around her.
Butterscotch proberbly didn't needed the order or the suggestion to fight the ekans, deep down this had woken some instinctual fear of getting eaten which most prey pokemon did have, that was what often happened in the wild after all. She struggled and pushed and pulled at the ekans muscled side but she couldn't get it to let go of her, she scratched frantically at anything she could reach since at least her front paws was still free. Suddenly she could feel the grip around her loosen a bit and she frantically scratched harder and then out of the blue, the ekans colapsed around her and she was free. Butterscotch darted away from the poison type with an incredible speed.
Butterscotch finished her first battle and grows +3 levels to [lvl 8]! She learns Quick Attack!
Peb helped and grows +1 level to [lvl 10]!

Sloane sighed with relief as the Ekans fainted. She crouched down and scooped up poor Butterscotch. She frowned. it was possible that she could make it to a Pokecenter to cure the poisoning, but if they got attacked again on the way this would be bad. Not to mention, she could hardly stand the look on Butterscotch's face. As Sloane held Butterscotch close she ignored how soaking wet her fur was. This outfit was mostly ruined. If Sloane could get a place to sleep for the night she would also need a fresh change of clothing. She reached into her bag, wiggling her hand around to find an item that might help. She turned a yellow bottle over in her hand. Looking at the drug facts it seemed it was a Full Heal from the Undella Town Pokecenter. She slowly fed the herbal liquid into Butterscotch's mouth. The sentret made a face, it did not taste good. However after a few seconds she seemed to feel better.
Butterscotch was seeming pretty comfortable in her arms. Sloane smiled, this had to be a moment of bonding, Butterscotch never seemed to like or trust her, but now she was just comfortable here. Soon Butterscotch dashed these hopes by jumping out of Sloane's arms to fall in the water, splashing Sloane's socks. As Sloane sputtered Butterscotch shook her head and grunted. Sloane sighed, her shoulders sagging. This was clearly not gonna be a slow process.
"Alright, have it your way. Let's head back to the Pokecenter and then it's time to go to bed. We had good training today." As Sloane walked, and Butterscotch waded through the water they tried to make it to the Pokecenter and heal without being attacked. However, Sloane handed Butterscotch an oran berry in the chance that they would get in another scrap. They both decided to head out looking for more wild Pokemon tomorrow if they made it to the center without incident.
The day was coming to an end and the streets of Cherrygrove was as wet as ever, most people just wished the day to be over and hoped for better weather tomorrow. As the sun was setting most wild pokemon also found dens or other temporarily places to nest so the streets was pretty quiet at Sloane and Butterscotch made their way towards the Pokemon Center.
While they got to the center without any incidence they encountered a problem when they reached it. There were a traffic jam at the entrance as several tired looking trainers had gathered and wished to come in but they couldn't. Nurse Joy tried to open the doors several times but the two spearows who had decided they wanted to nest right above, wouldn't accept anyone getting close to them and chased her inside again. A trainer had stepped forward with his pidgey and tried to handle the situation but couldn't do it alone as it was two against one. "Please! Does anyone have a pokemon to handle one of them?" He called over his shoulder but the group watching merely shuffled a bit but no-one stepped forward. Either they didn't want to and hoped other took care of it, or they simply weren't able to if their pokemon were too tired or injured, there was a reason they had come to the Pokemon Center in the first place after all. "I can't do this alone! My other pokemon are too tired!" The trainer said frustrated but little did it help.
A pair of Spearows [lvl 8] are blocking your way to the Pokemon Center. If you take one of them the other trainer will handle the other. Battle one or sleep on the street tonight?

Sloane looked up at the night sky. The stars reflected on the pools of water that had formed from relentless rain. Some parts of the street near the coast were full of sandy water, and she could hear the croaking on all sorts of Pokemon of the nights. Perhaps even the hoothooting of hoothoot. As she was about the comment on how pretty it was to her Pokemon, she heard the calls for help. Sloane until today had never considered herself very capable, or even the heroic type, but she noticed that this person needed help and she could probably help them. By now she could tell she was quite a strong trainer. She didn't want to send Butterscotch out toward two healthy Pokemon, so she returned the Sentret who did not seem to object.
"Knock it off you two! Leave him alone!" Sloane shouted, jumping over puddles of water as she rushed down the sidewalk and tried to jump across the flooded street only to make a big splash onto both of the Spearows and the trainer. Sloane sighed and stepped out of the ankle-high water, her shoes making sucking sounds as she did so. She wobbled, still trying to seem intimidating to the Spearows.
"Sloshy! Go!" She sent the squirtle forth! Sloshy landed in the water, but hardly seemed to care. He was a water type after all. Sloshy looked like he was trying to crack his knuckles...but he didn't have knuckles. Sloane pointed at one of the Spearows. "Sloshy! Hit him with a water gun!"
Sloshy got down on all fours and opened his mouth, blasting forth a stream of sparkling water, turning white with the bubbles in the pressurized stream!
The few people watching and waiting to go inside the Pokemon Center happily moved aside for Sloane to heroically charge in. The trainer already trying to handle the situation was so relieved to get help, so there was a chance to get inside and some rest, that he didn't say anything about getting splashed on. He looked annoyed briefly but it was quickly gone, just like everyone else standing here, he hadn't avoided stepping into a puddle here and there. The pair of spearows on the other hand, didn't take it lightly. They screeched furiously and both rushed directly at Sloane herself. The other trainer was quick though and his pidgey darted after and intercepted once of the spearows.
The other continued but Sloane managed to call out Sloshy in time, and his landing in water sent another cascade of water over the bird. It changed direction and slammed into him sending him flailing back into the puddle. "That's for soaking us! It shouted angrily, "get lost or I will let you pay for you all coming here and threatening our nest!" It wasn't going to stop the squirtle as he just rolled around in the water and got to all fours, before striking true and thoroughly soaking it.
"Thanks," said the trainer to Sloane with a quick smile, "It'll be good to get inside and get dry!" Nurse Joy opened the door slightly and peeked out, the little crowd hurried around and soon got inside, while the trainer Sloane was helping got a bitter look on his face. Nurse Joy looked uncertain but was called to from the desk from the now inside-waiting trainers, who really wanted her help. "I'm so sorry, but thank you! You have really saved the day!" She said gratefully and winced as someone behind her called impatiently again. "One moment!" She called back sternly and turned back to Sloane and the other trainer. "If you don't catch them, please try bring them in to me, okay? And I'll see what I can do to make this up to you," she promised and then disappeared inside to take care of the pokemon who needed her help.

Sloane was much more relieved than she appeared that Nurse Joy offered to help the wild Pokemon. It made her feel a lot better about asking her Pokemon to beat down these wild creatures. Sloane was hardly bothered when the crowd took advantage of her sacrifice. She was doing it to help after all, so she could only be glad that charging in helped them. Sloshy seemed to be happy about it too. Standing in the puddle and pounding his small fists together. The only time he seemed to not be naughty was when he was in a fight. In such cases, Sloshy was very effective, and seemed to be focused. Considering this, Sloane smiled, she was worried she wouldn't get along with him, but as long as the squirtle got what he came for he was happy.
"Good Sloshy! Again! Use water gun!" She called. Sloshy charged forward Eagerly, snickering as he approached the angry Spearow. He glanced aside at the other trainer's pokemon, smirking at them, as if showing off, before turning his focus back to the enemy at hand. Hopefully Sloane would let him finish it this time.
"I'd like to see you try! You're nothin' special, you can't hope to stop a rare Pokemon like me! Had it not been for that other human and I had to fight both of you this might've been a fair fight!" Sloshy leaped into the air and opened his mouth blasting forth a spray of water before dropping to his feet. His snicker showed his pearly teeth.
The other trainer didn't really notice that Sloane was too busy with her own battle to react on his thanking of her help, he too was busy and it was clear his pidgey wasn't much trained yet and it needed all the help he could give it. "No, Sand attack won't work! Also there is no sand now!" He called to his bird who had tried to do what felt natural to it when facing a tough opponent. But there was no sand around here and a spearow wasn't going to be bothered with it even if there had been. "You can do this Ginger, Tackle it!" He encouraged it and the two birds flapped around each other trying to get their attacks in without getting knocked to the ground themselves. The pidgey had way too much in its claws to have any time paying attention to what Sloshy was doing, as long as he kept the other spearow off its back it would be grateful.
Sloshy's opponent the other spearow had landed in a puddle on the ground and couldn't be more wet as it got back up on its feet. Its feathers stuck together in tufts and the skin was visible in the streetlight. It leered at him disdainfully and shook its body in an attempt to get rid of some of the water. "The only special about you is your inflated ego!" The bird retorted, "you are attacking my home and my family! I'll protect them to the bitter end!"

Sloshy looked very insulted. For a moment he was still but then he balled his tiny fists and stomped his foot in anger. He took a step forward and pointed at his enemy dramatically, bobbing up and down with fury. "Hey! Watch it! My trainer wouldn't have called me to fight you if you weren't already attacking us! She doesn't even like me as much as her other Pokemon! So you're gonna get pummeled if you like it or not! Isn't that right?"
He turned to Sloane, only to see her with his Pokeball ready. Sloshy's jaw dropped in disappointment as she called him back. Unfortunately Sloane was far too busy considering that this was a great chance to get Butterscotch some more practice. She didn't even notice when she caused more gaps in her relationship with her Squirtle. She sent out butterscotch, the odd sneakers the guide Gent gave her vibrated as she got motivated. She spat out two orders quickly and the Sentret did her best to keep up. "Butterscotch, use Scratch, and then again!"
Sloane turned, as Butterscotch ran ahead. That other trainer wasn't doing too well. Did he need her help? She had to be ready to spring into action if that were the case. Sloane sighed, this flood really brought out some scary Pokemon! If she weren't breathless from the battle so far she would have called out to him to see if he was okay. She turned back to see how her newest team member was faring against the Spearow.
