S H I W A ➳ ♀ ➳ 11 ➳ Shield Dust Life is a chaotic mess of if/then statements and syntaxes that seemed to open imaginary doors based upon the choices that you make. Would Shiwa have ever evolved if she didn’t choose to travel with Zaiden and his team? What would her life have amounted to if she had stayed within the safety of the colony, led and directed by their amazing and wonderful Beautifly who worked twice as hard every day to ensure their safety? The purple poison moth crawled out on the thin oak branch up high in the tree and craned her head towards the rising sun as she tested her wings out carefully.
Her trainer gathered the old team up once more to traverse Route 29 in search of wild Pokemon that he had yet to see or add to his collection. The beautiful and colorful Spearow variant soared high into the air, diving through thickets of trees to disappear for moments, before resurfacing within eyesight of the group. The moth watched lazily as the avian seemed to test out his strength, tossing strong gusts of wind with a clap of his mighty wings like scissors to slice up invisible opponents. There was a time in her early history where he had seen her as prey – like a buffet table set up and presented before him, so that the barely tamed bird could easily gobble her up inside of his beak.
Now they were friends. Or closer. Comrades in this arms race that they had experienced together, battling through all odds and striving to claw their way to the very top. Hageshii battled off his own kind bravely and helped defend his comrades. So much had changed since then – and yet, so much had stayed the same. Kogasu wandered off in some strange competition, alighting bugs up in her wake and bringing home a strange and rather twisted Butterfly. They had spent many moments in Professor Elm’s lab if only to have Shiwa shy away as a cascoon. “I wonder what your insides tastes like if I split you open. Have you ever wanted to split another bug open before? I have.” The words of that nefarious Butterfree haunted Shiwa inside of her mind. She had spend an arduous amount of time hiding behind Kogasu while she was in the Lab, who would easily fire balls of burning fire at the Butterfly to get it to fly away and bother someone else.
Did Professor Elm notice when a Pokemon went missing, especially if it was at the hands of one of the other Pokemon in the lab? Shiwa shuddered to think what might have happened if there were plenty of bodyguards around the Professor’s lab who offered to help protect her – some she knew from her trainer’s captures and travels, and some she met along the way but may never see again. Hageshii soared over to her and hovered in the air on his wings. The golden feathered avian’s dark green eyes studied the newly formed Dustox, though he was still learning to adjust to her appearance. “You have wings now, have you not? Why not join me in air and practice?”
Shiwa’s bright yellow antennas twitched back and forth as she craned her head up and studied the powerful avian for a second. A gentle breeze stirred lazily past them on the humid day and tugged at the branch that Shiwa rested on. Her pink feet clung tightly to the branch as it buckled and swayed in the breeze and considered Hageshii’s offer carefully. She loved her friend dearly but she honestly had no interest in creating extra work for herself. Shiwa shook her head and replied, “No thanks, sorry. I really just want to relax today. I’ve...got a lot on my mind...” She admitted.
The brave bird tilted his head for a second, trying to wrap his head around the notion. The best way that Hageshii knew of to clear his mind was to battle other Pokemon. It would alight the spirit and get the blood pumping throughout the body, waking up every muscle and fiber so that he could keep his sights aligned to something new. He shrugged and took off back up into the air once more, before diving through the canopy of trees as he weaved in and out of their network.
Kogasu was still refusing to humor her trainer, who pleaded with her on the forest ground below. She stood off in the distance, arms folded and head tilted upwards and sideways so that she did not have to look at him, and sat stubbornly on the ground. Zaiden needed to work on his leadership as a trainer, his guidance, and his own self. She didn’t find it very impressive how he was trying to make up for his shortcomings with hand gestures, due to the fact that they had seemingly gone back-and-forth on how he wanted to train them.
“Kogasu...” Zaiden scratched the back of his head as he broke down and kneeled beside her on the grass. “If you don’t want to battle for me...I’ll have to live with that, I guess. I do want to be the best trainer out there, and I want you to be the best Charmeleon out there – and one day the best Charizard out there. But I’m not good with words...” The strangely quiet boy’s fears and emotions finally welled up inside of his chest and spilled out like a bursting dam. The red lizard slowly turned her head halfway to Zaiden and gazed at the mousy-brown haired teenager through her dark blue pupils. An inquisitive nature caused an interesting half-smile half-something-else sort of grin as she listened slowly to her words. It wouldn’t last long, however, as she would quickly pout and turn back around, refusing to speak to him.
“I’m not good with words. I know I haven’t been the best trainer before. I didn’t train you, you practically trained yourself. But I want to change that. The only way I can know for sure that I can always give commands reliably is with hand gestures." He admitted as he raised one of his hands to scratch the back of his neck. After several tedious minutes, she would eventually nod her head and push herself back up on her two feet to follow Zaiden out to a small clearing where he wanted to work with her on her moves. He shaped his hands together like it was a mouth and snapped them shut before pointing to her teeth and explained how he wanted this to be their signal for Fire Fang, at least for now, then began showing her different hand gestures for each of her currently known moves.
Gen’ie was off in his own mystery, probably pulling pranks on some of the wild Pokemon in the land, and that seemed to suit the Dustox just fine. Let his keep to himself and do whatever it is that he wanted to do as long as it didn’t disrupt Shiwa or harm in of her companions. Out of all of the old team members that Zaiden had originally started most of his journey out with, Gen’ie was the least trustworthy. Shiwa couldn’t personally stand him and wouldn’t trust him as far as she could throw him. Although, with her stubby buggy legs she had to admit that she wasn’t throwing anything very far to begin with. Baunsu curled up underneath the oak tree on the ground as he sat with his back resting against the large trunk and seemed to enjoy the lazy day.
Uroko was the only one that didn’t seem to join them, which sort of suited Shiwa just fine. She considered him to still be but a baby in this world and doubted that the perils of Pokemon training and journeying through treacherous terrains on a journey with a trainer was the best outcome for a newly hatched Pokemon. Zaiden had been hatching quite a bit of baby Pokemon lately! She met a small and ravenous Munchlax during her time at the lab, who could clean every Pokemon’s plate including its own, and still beg for seconds. Then there was the strange Smeargle who needed a rhyme and reason for why a leaf fell off of a tree at 10:05 and not at 10:04 like it had done the previous day...
Something stirred inside of Dustox’s chest and she felt a tug on her heart, like somehow she never wanted this moment in life to end.

BEAUTIFLY ➳ ♂ ➳ 10 ➳ Swarm Shiwa’s choices left a hole in the heart of their colony that the leader would easily patch up. After the small Wurmple chose to skitter off on a long journey with its newfound companions and human trainer, the Beautifly had to return back to its usual duties. It was the sole defender of the colony, being the first Wurmple to evolve in the wilderness in an earnest effort to help ensure the safety and care of the rest of its kind. Many Wurmple now blossomed under the Beautifly’s rule. They were able to build their nests up high in safer areas of the trees, and had scouts that rotated out between the dayshift and nightshift companions to watch over the ones that needed to forage or sleep. In truth, they were a blossoming society. The Beautifly was proud of his work as he flapped his dark grey wings splashed with bright yellow, red, and blue hues and surveyed the Wurmple who were hard at work.
Some of the appropriately deemed collectors were out and about in the fields, scurrying up and down the trunks of mighty oaks and impressive pine trees as they would pull leaves and needles off of their branches and hurry to carry them back into their dens. Weakened or hurt Wurmple were thankful for having their food brought to them by members of their colony while they healed up in the safety of their burrows. Though Shiwa’s mind lay heavy with the memories of her old colony mates they had moved on without her and continued as though life were back to normal. “You there!” The black winged insect swooped down through the air in dramatic loops to land in front of two Wurmple who seemed to be bickering with each other. One of the Wurmple were quite large and had a swollen abdomen that seemed fit to explode, while the other had two marks above its left eye and a long cut across its back. “What seems to be the problem?”
The two similarly looking caterpillars stopped what they were doing and turned to the impressively evolved Beautifly that hung over them. Their eyes widened when they registered the anger in their leader’s voice and they dopped their heads in submission. “Wurmple started it.” The Wurmple with the swollen belly replied. It shot a sideways glance at the scarred wurmple and glared. The scarred Wurmple’s head shot and it shook its head so vigorously that its small yellow horn seemed like a blur as it swung back-and-forth. “Nu-uh! Wurmple started it!” It commented. The scarred Wurmple turned to its companion and shot out a thick white substance that sped past the pink bug and hit the trunk of a large oak tree.
The Beautifly landed on his small, round white legs and lifted one of his stubby white arms up as if he were reaching out to the heavens above for the answer. He shook his head disapprovingly at the two Wurmple that were caught bickering amongst each other. “Wurmple have enough enemies in this forest. There Spearow and Pidgey eat us in the daylight. Hoothoot hunt us down at night. Even Fletching are known to prey upon us when they’re out. Patrat and Rattata chase us this way and that from their territory. All the world has marked us as food or enemy. We must not fight amongst ourselves if we hope to survive here.” He stated, trying to correct their behaviors. Their bright yellow eyes watered and the two Wurmple lowered their heads further until the tall grasses of the forested region swallowed them whole. “You’re right Beautifly.” The Wurmple with the swollen belly replied. “We shouldn’t fight.” The scarred Wurmple agreed.
Beautifly’s face softened a bit as he studied his colony members. “Now tell me, what has gotten you two to beef like this. What were you fighting over, regardless who started it?” He demanded. There was still a mystery to solve between his colony members. If he didn’t work out the scuffle with them both, then there was no way that he could hope for the peace to last long within his kingdom. No. The only true way to solve the problem would be to face it head on and have each of the Wurmple work out their disagreement with each other.
At first, no one seemed willing to fess up to the other. The scarred Wurmple glanced at the other Wurmple with a worried expression. The Wurmple with the swollen belly returned the same look back to its friend. Hesitant, the scarred Wurmple began. “My food storage went missing...” His expression tightened as he narrowed his eyes on his friend. “And Wurmple was eating some pretty familiar leaves!” It accused as the tempo in his voice raised. The Wurmple with the swollen belly stood up tall and looked hurt by its friend’s remark.
“There he goes again!” Swollen belly Wurmple cried out and pointed one of its frontmost feet at the scarred Wurmple. “I didn’t touch your food!” All leaves looked similar to each other in the forest! The scarred Wurmple must not have remembered where it put its leaves or someone else must have stolen them. The swollen belly Wurmple had been diligently collecting leaves all day long for the sick and injured Wurmple that were tucked away inside of their dens and hidden away underneath the earth. The swollen belly Wurmple had ate some of those leaves, sure. It was hungry and starving too, and it was not fair if the swollen belly Wurmple had to collect all of this food for other Wurmple and couldn’t even have a small bite! But it did not eat the scarred Wurmple’s food! “I’ve been gathering food all day for the sick and injured Wurmple! I used to feed you, when you were healing in the dens!” The swollen belly Wurmple cried out in exasperation.
The Scarred Wurmple reared up and rebuffed. “But...but...but...!” The scarred Wurmple defended his stance. Look at his partner with its round belly. Obviously, this Wurmple had eaten some leaves that belonged to someone and those leaves were the green oak leaves that the scarred Wurmple had worked all day long as collecting. How could its friend deny eating its storage when the evidence seemed to be right in front of their faces?! “Just look at your stomach! You’re full of evidence!” The scarred Wurmple pointed out.
Beautifly sighed and lifted itself back up into the air. He shook his head as she shot them both a warning glance. “This is not something we should be fighting over. Wurmple,” The Beautifly turned his attention to the Wurmple with a swollen belly, “You were eating the food you had just collected, were you not? Was that for the sick and injured Wurmple who cannot gather food on their own safely?” He demanded and crossed his stubby white arms together. To say he was disappointed in his own colony members and their behaviors was an understatement. The swollen belly Wurmple’s bright pink, spiky head dropped until it was pressed firmly into the ground. It deflated. “Yes...but! But...I was really hungry!” It defended as it sniffled and cried.
A voice called from the treetops and reverberated from one scout to the next. A chain reaction that had fired off. A sea of pink-and-cream colored bugs rushed down the trunks of the mighty oaks and across the open terrain as they all tried to dive for cover inside of their homes. One word that clung on the air like a bad omen or a prophecy they had prayed would never come to fruition. “Spearow!” Followed by and even worse prophecy that almost certainly spelled doom. “FEAROW!” The Beautifly raised itself up high into the air to see a large and impressive, yet extremely powerful Fearow caw as it circled overhead with Spearow following close behind. “Face me in battle, Fearow! If you win, you can eat me If I win, you must leave this place at once!” If today was going to be his last day, let him at least fight it to the very last and provide his Wurmple enough time to make a speedy getaway.

FEAROW ➳ ♂ ➳ 15 ➳ Keen Eye The bird Pokemon were neither evil nor mean when they devoured the bug Pokemon or Route 29. They were working off of predatory instincts that compelled them to scour the land in search of prey that they could fill their gullets with. They worked in a troupe led by a mighty and brave Fearow, whose evolutionary stage had afforded the brave bird the ability to soar high into the sky and survey the land around them. The smaller pink, black, and brown feathered Spearow had much smaller wings that only allowed them to glide short distances on the air. They often complained about this fact, begging for Fearow to help them learn to fly as well as he could so that they could all soar bravely on the air currents up where the clouds touched the heavens above.
“You will all fly bravely, my comrades!” The large brown bird promised them. He tilted his head up and pointed his long, sharp salmon beak towards the burning ball of gas in the sky above and stared for a moment I silence. It was his duty to protect his flock. Through harsh battling and tough competitions – taking down every competitor or trainer that tried to face him and winning – he was able to evolve. These strenuous tests were passed on from the large bird to its smaller companions. “We must all fight bravely and with everything we have. Remember the rule of this flock. We do not accept defeat.” The Spearow all nodded their brown feathered heads as they stared loyally at their leader through their black pupils. “What did I say?!” He asked them, cawing as loudly as possible.
They repeated in unison. “WE DO NOT ACCEPT DEFEAT!” He nodded his head, folding his long wings up against his body as he landed on the ground. The Fearow walked back and forth on his long pink feet and noted each of his battlers carefully. “You there!” He pointed to a scuffed up Spearow who had a few feathers missing in odd places. He was one of the younger Spearow who had barely hatched the previous Summer, though he showed a lot of promise as his spunk drove him to face off with every elder over and over again as he tried to prove himself. “What happens when you’re facing an opponent and you cannot win?” The Fearow stuck his face in the face of the scuffed Spearow and stared into the Spearow’s eyes with his larger eyes. The smaller bird stood steady, stealing away any emotions that might have made him want to cower, and replied. “Fight to the bitter end!” He promised and primmed up.
The Fearow smiled, then frowned. This was only half of the answer that was acceptable to the large avian. Where was this young Spearow’s team spirit? If he was not careful then he would be swallowed alive by a trainer whose team of Pokemon could wipe it out when the human tried switching around from one Pokemon to the next to tire the Spearow out. He needed to work together as a unit and be strong enough to stand on his own merits. “That is not the answer I seek. You have failed.” The Fearow unfolded one of his wings and bonked the Pokemon on his head before turning away and walking to a different Spearow. He repeated his question, pressing his beak into the face of Spearow whose wings were slightly longer than the rest. This Spearow needed to work on her battling techniques but she was an amazing team member.
“What happens when you’re facing an opponent and you cannot win?” He watched her carefully and waited. The long winged Spearow preened her feathers and fluffed herself up. She craned her head high with a smile as though she had already figured out the riddle to her leader’s question. In truth, it was the brave bird’s desire to impress the Fearow and to show him what she was capable of. She had lost more fights than she could count, but she always seemed to know when a team member in the field needed help and how to call for reinforcements. “You call for backup!” She answered.
Again, the Fearow’s face dropped as he scrutinized her behavior and he bonked her on the head with his large wing. “That is not the answer I seek.” He informed her firmly. The Fearow would stretch out his wings and jump up into the air to hover over his flock as he studied each Spearow carefully. Many were the best fighters he had ever seen, and several were amazing allies who knew how to look after their flock, but none had quite reached what it took to allow them to evolve into fully fledged Fearow and take off into the air. It was his responsibility to help guide and encourage them each to their evolution. “Listen carefully before we hunt. There are still dangers that we face on this route, though many of them cannot stand up to such a brave and powerful Fearow such as myself. You must give it all that you have – with all of your strength and skills – against such opponents. You must also know when to call out to your flock for added strength and guidance against especially tough opponents that you cannot win against, but never ever give up. We fight with everything we have, until our last breath. Is this understood?!” The Fearow cawed out loudly, to which the Spearow all cawed in unison as they agreed with their superior avian leader.
Fate would smile down upon them when the Fearow noticed the Beautifly and several Wurmple blow. He soared above while his flock scoured through the large branches in the canopies above. “There is food below! Enough Wurmple to fill us each up with and with some remaining for a second feast. Let us eat our fill!” He commanded and began to dive down on scared pink bugs who immediately shouted out to their companions and began fleeing the scene. The Spearow flew down to the ground and hopped after the scared bugs as their bellied roared to be filled. A sea of pink bug shot long stringy webs from their mouth at the Spearow, who chased and pecked after the bugs. Some fell to the sharp beaks and talons of the birds, who would easily toss the unmoving bodies up into the air to swallow them in a single gulp. Some Wurmple fought back bravely when they were cornered, tackling and ramming into the Spearow repeatedly, and some turned around to fight the birds off as a group to try and save more of their friends.
The Beautifly soared up high into the air to make a deal with the Fearow. The large bird smiled, pleased by the bug’s foolish offer. He laughed, stretching his wings as far as he could on either side of his body, and nodded. “A bug such as yourself has no hope of winning this fight!” He cawed. “But I will accept your pathetic offer. Fearow never back down from a fight. Know this though, when you lose I will swallow you whole with my beak, then eat your companions as they flee for cover below. I am a large bird and require many bugs to keep me full.” This was a battle that the bug could not win, though the fearless avian could not have predicted another contender to swoop in on the scene and try to help the Beautifly out in the fight.

S H I W A ➳ ♀ ➳ 11 ➳ Shield Dust The Poison Moth lifted her head up and stared off into the distance. Thin cirrus clouds decorated the skies through the breaks in the tree lines. Their light, airy forms seemed painted on in the rich hue of the bright blue skies and they drifted idly towards the east. The wind picked up. Something seemed wrong or off, though the Dustox couldn’t quite place her finger on it. The wind’s currents shifted directions repeatedly, often gusting to the northeast, then switching to the southwest. It seemed to tug with itself as though it were waging a war. Shiwa stared down at her teammates who all seemed lost in their own worlds as they chattered away or trained with Zaiden. After an intense gust slammed against the purple moth and nearly knocked her off of her perch, she pulled herself back up and straightened herself before staring back in the distance.
Something was calling to her. It was like a weird and warm feeling – a yearning for a past that she could never escape to. I seemed to pull on the small bug. She stretched out her bright green wings so that the bright red circles that decorated the undersides shown clearly before lifting herself up into the air. Hageshii immediately flew over to her, prodding the small Pokemon carefully. He didn’t know if she had changed her mind at first, but secretly hoped that he would be able to get a more willing participant in his shenanigans. “Are you ready to practice?” He asked her with a knowing look. Hageshii then lifted himself up as he beat his wings fiercely and force himself to rise as high as he could in the air. Shiwa shook her head before turning away and flying off. “I can’t explain it,” She spoke to her companion, “But there’s something I need to see or do.”
The brown bird tilted his head as he fluttered on the air and watched his friend fly away. He couldn’t really understand what she was talking about or what she meant by her remarks. Once she had disappeared through the trees, he would turn back around and go back to diving through the branches and practicing his attacks. Today was a beautiful day, not entirely too hot even if it wasn’t as cool as he would like, and with a friendly breeze gusting about to help keep things just a bit cooler. It was the perfect kind of day for Pokemon to stretch their wings or feet and practice their moves to prepare for the next fight that they may have to face. Hageshii, for one, wasn’t going to waste this opportunity.
Shiwa followed her heart though she wasn’t sure it was leading her in the right direction. She passed through the long and winding Route, flying past the obvious land markers and sometimes following trails that the trainers had installed to make traversing it easier for newer or inexperienced travelers. Though parts of the journey were long and arduous by default and caused her to fly through the entanglement of tree branches and vines. After flying for what felt like hours, she landed on a large branch that was split in half, with part of it dangling as though it were ready to fall to the ground below. Her strange yellow eyes with their three pupils searched this way and that through the dark forest.
It was eerily quiet. Like an incoming storm that had yet to break off, Shiwa couldn’t even spot the usual Pokemon that preferred to scour the route. Did all of the Pokemon – Rattata, Patrat, and even numerous Wurmple that called it home up and vanish? Something didn’t feel right about this. Where was her colony? Shiwa was positive that she was near their old stomping ground by now and needed to find them and soon. She lifted herself back up on her wings and sped off through the route. Was the Beautifly not enough to defend their Wurmple companions and help ensure that everyone was safe?! What happened to the friends that she had hatched out of an egg with, grew up with, lived her whole life with before she had ever met Zaiden, Kogasu, or any of the other Pokemon?!
She wondered quietly if this was her fault. Was she to blame for not only worrying her Beautifly leader so carelessly but allowing them to fall prey to who knows what in the region?! Did she not think of the other Pokemon and of their safety by allowing herself to be caught?! Why did she have to go on this long and arduous journey with a trainer who barely knew who he was and so far from home and everyone she knew and loved?! Tears welled up in her eyes as fear seized her chest. Shiwa’s wings beat fiercely. She tore through thick bundles of bright green, bright red, and bright orange leaves and pushed her way through thickly woven, compact bushes. Their vines tried to ensnare and trap the newly formed Dustox as they wrapped themselves around her tightly tried to trap her within their grasps. She pushed herself, shaking her body this way and that, and squirmed free of their grasp. She would even use her small mouth to clamp down and bite at the small vines to rip them apart as she fought.
Eventually, Shiwa would find her old companion facing off with a large Fearow. Her natural instincts kicked in and caused her to duck down inside the safety of a tree. Her head would barely pop out above the canopy so that she could watch the battle closely. Her large yellow antennas twitched on the top of her head when she heard the two contestants promise to fight each other with the Beautifly offering to sacrifice his life for his colony. After squinting with her eyes to be sure, Shiwa recognized the Beautifly as her old Colony leader!
Immediately, she dashed up into the air and flew up to the Beautifly’s level. “You will not hurt my friends!” She barked at the Fearow. It wasn’t that Shiwa wasn’t scared out of her wits because she was absolutely terrified of the other Pokemon and the power that he had. But she knew that she was not the same weak and helpless Wurmple she had been once before. The Beautifly turned to Shiwa and waved her off with one wing and tried to convince the Dustox not to risk her life for his Colony. “You are my colony!” Shiwa blurted out at the top of her lungs, then explained. “As a Wurmple, you chased me away because I chose to travel with a human companion and his Charmander. He helped me become stronger over time, thanks to many battles, and I was able to evolve into a Dustox.” The Fearow interrupted them this time, promising that he could easily take them both on at once.
Dustox pleaded with his old Colony leader with wide, expressive eyes that wouldn’t easily take no for an answer. “If you do not survive, they do not survive. Let me do this one favor for the leader and the colony that raised me. Please? Let me help you.” When the Beautifly finally agreed with an affirmative nod of her head, Shiwa would fire off multiple poisonous barbs from her antennas at the Fearow, aiming to poison the other Pokemon.

BEAUTIFLY ➳ ♂ ➳ 10 ➳ Swarm The Beautifly was taken aback and confused when the bright purple moth with its striking green wings soared up beside him and threatened the Fearow. His bright blue eyes bounced from the other bug over to the large brown feathered avian with worry and concern. He was also confused as he had never seen the Dustox before. Not many of the Wurmple had evolved by this point and he couldn’t remember any of the Cascoon who would have been close enough in their metamorphosis to be able to break out of their shells and stretch their newly formed wings. Even still, they would have needed the time to dry them on the air currents.
“You do not have to risk your life for us.” The Beautifly lifted one of its arms and waved at the purple moth. He chided, trying to get the other bug Pokemon to leave before it ended up as dinner for the large bird alongside the Beautifly. There was no reason that both Pokemon had to die for this cause. It would be better if Beautifly stood up against their predator until the very end and faced his death with some dignity and grace. “You should return to your colony. I can assure you that they need you more than we do.” He tried to feign some semblance of authority and grace. The Beautifly was already sure of its own demise as the ravenous bird stared at them both and seemed keen to take them both on in battle, promising that they would both make fine meals.
The Wurmple clashed with the pink-and-brown feathered Spearow on the ground below as they called for war. Many of the other Pokemon in the region had already sped off into their burrows or retreated to a safe distance to watch the ensue. Spearow plucked up the pink caterpillars left and right and swallowed them in just a couple of bites with a satisfied grin. The Wurmple ganged up in groups, with as many as six of them facing off against one Spearow. Many would coat the birds with their thick, sticky strings to slow them down, while others would leap out and tackle the avians repeatedly to try and drain away their health. Beautifly listened to Shiwa’s persuading story and relived the moments where he made the Wurmple choose between the mousy-brown haired trainer and the safety of her colony. So, the Wurmple had evolved into a fine Dustox and have come back to rejoin her group? They would have to have a serious conversation later since Shiwa couldn’t be in two places at once, but for now there were more important matters at hand.
“It’s good to see how much you have grown.” The Beautifly’s large black antennas swayed back and forth as he nodded his head. He frowned as he considered the weight of his words carefully. “Still, you have a trainer and a team that needs you now. Go, and let me deal with this Fearow for my colony. Do not get yourself involved with our troubles.” But Shiwa was persistent and kept speaking about her need to do with one favor for her old colony. Her arguments of the survival rates of the Wurmples – locked in a war below them – was true, if not harsh and brutal to endure. Reluctantly, the Beautifly nodded his head as he accepted Shiwa’s help. “You make a compelling argument...Because my colony needs me, I will allow you to help me fight off this Fearow.” He nodded and turned to face the large bird.
The Beautifly would soar up high into the sky to try and get the Fearow’s attention as he called out to the impressive bird. “If you want to eat me, you’ll have to catch me in your beak!” He yelled out, then dived at the Fearow. He would play chase with the Fearow’s beak, speeding around the large bird’s body until he could locate a safe spot on its back. The black butterfly with his large, yellow, red, and blue splotched wings landed on the feathered avian and gripped its back with his hands and feet. It would then extend its feeler and jab it into the Fearow flesh to bite his opponent as hard as he possibly could. The long black proboscis wrapped itself around something strange and the Beautifly yanked its head back as it pulled the berry free from the Pokemon’s hidden spot in its feathers, after taking quite a beating from the Fearow’s repetitive furious attacks with its claws and wings.
“Thanks for that!” The Beautifly complimented the large avian sarcastically as it flew up and away from the bird who would immediately give chase. The small blue berry in all of its soft, round glory was an aid in such a dangerous and brutal battle and helped restore a little health for the Beautifly. He was much weaker now - tired in every sense of the word – but knew that he could not rest until the battle was completely fought and hopefully the birds had been chased off for good.

FEAROW ➳ ♂ ➳ 15 ➳ Keen Eye
The Fearow raised an eyebrow as Shiwa shot up into the skies above and threatened to take it on with the Beautifly. He tilted his head back while beating his wings and flying in the air and laughed. It did not matter how many bugs that they wished to throw at him. All the bugs in the world couldn’t hold the might or weight that the Fearow had. One of the Spearow noticed and flew up into the air towards his boss. He was an average Spearow in every sense of the word – the average weight, the average height, the average amount of feathers and experience for Route 29. Nothing stood out as different or extraordinary and so he could more easily blend in with the flock and disappear just as easily as he had appeared.
“Boss!” He cried out. “Let me help you take these bugs on!” The Fearow shot him a knowing, stern look. If he wanted to prove his worth in the eyes of his flock then the Fearow needed to show the Spearow just how brave and powerful a Fearow could be. They should be encouraged to keep battling so that they could become stronger over time and eventually evolve into brave and powerful Fearow of their own. What kind of message would it send if he allowed the Spearow below to be attacked in six verses one fights but he couldn’t even handle two airborne bugs of his own? Plus, he might have to share the meal with this Spearow and the Fearow had already determined that he wanted to eat these bugs himself. “I will not allow you to do that. These bugs are nothing to me. A small roadblock to our success and our feast. I will take you on Beautifly, along with your friend Dustox over there. I will eat you both with much delight. My Spearow are already making fast work of your so called ‘colony’ as we speak!”
The Beautifly drove itself up high into the air and called out to the Fearow, whose eyes glared at the tiny black butterfly with its brightly speckled wings. It tore off through the clouds after the Beautifly as it chased after its opponent. The Fearow jabbed its beak after the Beautifly’s small beak several times. Although most of its attacks missed, the Fearow was able to catch the Beautifly a couple of times and left some nice gashes along its body as its long, sharp beak tore into the flesh of the other Pokemon. Oh, how sweet and delectable this Beautifly would taste just as soon as the Fearow was able to defeat it!
Poisonous barbs shot through the air and soared all around the Fearow. It caused the large brown feathered avian to cry out as they jabbed him repeatedly and sunk past the buff feathers into his soft flesh. The poisonous barbs were sharp and managed to leave their marks. The poison buried itself underneath the flesh and coursed through the Fearow’s veins. “Impressive, but that will not save you!” He cawed and lifted himself up bravely. The small black butterfly managed to land on his back and dug its long proboscis into its flesh. The Fearow’s eyes narrowed angrily down upon its opponent when he noticed the butterfly make off with his berry and eat it himself. “So you’re a thief! It will be good that we rid this world of you for once and for all. Fearow battle nobly to the bitter end!” The large bird cawed angrily. What right did this Beautifly afford itself to steal away an Oran berry that did not rightfully belong to it?! This was not an easily forgivable offense.
The Fearow gave chase after the butterfly as it zipped through the air currents, trying to escape the large bird’s beaks once more. This little darling was going to fill the avian’s gullet one way or another. Now that the Fearow did not even have its berry to rely on all deals were off the table, as far as the large bird was concerned. “Your kind do not know of such things as nobility or bravery. You only know of tricks to get you by. That cannot save you from your impending fate. Now, prepare yourself to be a wonderful meal for my stomach!” He laughed as he chased after the Beautifly.

S H I W A ➳ ♀ ➳ 11 ➳ Shield Dust The purple Dustox watched the large brown bird chase after her colony’s Leader in horror. They zipped through the air at lightning speeds. Though the Fearow was much faster than the small black butterfly, she outmaneuvered the large Pokemon, circling around in unsightly zigzag patterns and ducking just under its talons or between its legs to change its directions. Shiwa needed to think of something to save her friend and quick. Her colony’s leader had been there since her birth and had put himself in harm’s way every time one of the Wurmple of the colony needed protection from one of their natural predators.
Shiwa wasn’t a fighter. From the moment she cracked out of her hot pink egg with the light, cream-colored stripe on the bottom, she wasn’t a Pokemon that wanted to fight other Pokemon. She loved to play and have fun. Wasn’t that what life was truly about? Making memories with the ones you cared for the most? Why was there so much hardship and pain? Why did Pokemon have to fight? Why did Pokemon have to die? Why did Wurmple have to die so that Fearow and Spearow could eat and stay alive?! None of it made sense to the purple moth as she beat her bright green wings fiercely to keep airborne and watched the two chase each other all around.
Beautifly had defended her from the very beginning. When Shiwa was just a Wurmple and didn’t know how dangerous the world around her way, the Beautifly put itself in harm’s way every time to keep her safe. When she had fallen out of a tree because she hadn’t been careful while trying to reach one of the tastiest leaves she had ever seen, Beautifly rushed in and caught her with his arms to make sure she didn’t hit the ground too hard. When a flock of Spearow tried to eat her alive, Beautifly coordinated an attack with the other Wurmple to chase them away. How could she watch her friend – the one Pokemon that she owed her life to in many ways – get eaten by another Pokemon?!
Dustox flew over to black butterfly with the multi-colored markings splashed onto its wings. “Beautifly, I know Gust!” They flew together in a coordinated effort as the Fearow smirked and sped up to try to catch them. Whenever the large avian was close enough to try and gobble them up, the two would duck off in different directions to confuse the Fearow, then meet back up to coordinate their efforts. “I remember when you would use Gust in the past to protect us by blowing away other Pokemon that weren’t strong enough to withstand it. I believe if we both use the move together, it’ll be twice as strong!”
When her leader agreed, they would work out the schematics of the attack. Shiwa needed to put herself in harm’s way now. She had to protect her leader even if it cost the Dustox her life. She turned around in the air and faced off with the large Fearow as it caught up to them. When the Beautifly turned around out of concern Shiwa would wave her off with one of her pink legs. “Go and stay safe. I will meet back up with you so that we can attack with Gust. It’ll be better to hit the Fearow from both sides.” She explained. Then she dived down after the Fearow bravely.
Shiwa stopped right in front of the large Pokemon’s face with a Cheshire cat grin plastered across her face. This bird thought that bug was on the menu so why not serve up a feast? This way her partner would stay safe and wouldn’t have to worry about another attack from the large avian. One heavy blow from the Fearow’s beak could spell trouble for Shiwa, though, so she knew that she had to be careful. “You wanted dinner, right?” She piped up but her voice trembled. She wasn’t nearly as brave as she wanted to sound. Shiwa was downright fearful. She didn’t want to stare death in the face. She didn’t know how Zaiden or Kogasu would react when they found what little of her remains would be left behind after the Fearow had its way with her.
But she knew that she had to put a stop to this. She had to defend her colony Leader and make sure that the other Wurmple still had someone that could protect and defend her. “Well...here I am! Come and get me, big boy.” She stuck her tongue out and shook her head back and forth in an amusement expression to try and get a rise out of the large bird. When it reached out to try and pluck her out of the air, the bug Pokemon would speed back off.
The Fearow pursued its prey, reaching out with its long talons and ripping into Dustox as it gave chase. Once the Dustox was able to get the Fearow just far enough away that her colony Leader could prepare to attack the Pokemon, Shiwa would spin around and whip up strong gusts of wind that she sent spiraling at the other Pokemon. This was their only hope. Something had to give so that Shiwa and Beautifly could ensure the safety and survival of the Wurmple, who were fighting for their lives just as heavily as the two evolved forms were fighting up in the skies above.

BEAUTIFLY ➳ ♂ ➳ 10 ➳ Swarm The black butterfly with a soft grey face flapped his wings as fast as he could as he sped through the air on a high-speed chase. The large brown bird was moving in swiftly and managed to keep up at every turn. The Fearow overpowered the Beautifly in speed but couldn’t quite keep up with him when it came to maneuvering the small bug in aerial dynamics. The Fearow struck out its large beak with a gaping wide grin and tried to snap down on the small bug who swished and turned this way and that to try and avoid the large bird’s beaks. The Beautifly spun in large, looping circled up into the air, barely missing the large pink feathered crest on the top of Fearow’s head as he zipped between the bird’s beak. The Fearow snapped his beak down with a quick snap, barely scraping the edge of the small flying bug’s leg as it darted, then spun around and underneath the brown bird to duck out behind it.
This wasn’t going so well for the Beautifly nor the Dustox. The Leader hovered for a moment as he tried to consider what alternatives he had left in his arsenal. The Fearow shouted out and accused the colony’s leader of being a thief though he had only done what his natural instincts were – to probe anything with his long mouth and munch away on whatever items he might be able to snag off of them as a snack. Now here he was, being accused of being an outright thief. Though in truth the Beautifly had liberated the Oran berry from the other Pokemon and consumed it, the Beautifly considered that he had only followed the call of the wild. Everything was for the taking, as the right price. Even his life was put in peril and the right price to keep existing seemed to be placed squarely on the shoulders of this large, impressive bird’s defeat. “I did thoroughly enjoy the berry!” He responded with a shrug.
Glancing down to the ground below and witnessing the bloodbath of Wurmple bodies strung throughout the route, the colony’s leader realized how accurate the Fearow’s words were with horror. He grimaced, gulped, and forced himself to stay focused on the mission at hand. Many of the Spearow had been chased off by the pink caterpillars working together to gang up on them and chase them off. A funeral would be held later for all of their fallen comrades providing that they made it out of this nightmare alive. As Beautifly considered the best vantage point to attack from, the Dustox flew up and devised a plan for them both to use their Gust attack to try and overpower the Fearow that way.
Beautifly tilted his head for a second as he considered the notion casually. Gust was a flying move so it wouldn’t necessarily be the most effective strategy against the large avian. However, the only other move that the colony leader had to rely on was his Bug Bite, which had already worked its magic by freely plucking the Oran berry off the Fearow’s body and consuming it to add a bit of health back into his form. “I still know Gust, so that should work out perfectly. We should attack from different angles to confuse the Fearow, though. I believe that would be our best point of attack.”
Beautifly started to fly off in the other direction until he noticed the brown feathered avian catch up to them and stare down at the Dustox with starving eyes. He spun around and called out to his companion. “Watch out!” Then he tried to fly after the other Pokemon, but the Dustox seemed to dismissively wave him off. What was she doing? Was she willing to sacrifice herself for the colony’s leader?! The Beautifly could not allow this Pokemon to sacrifice itself for him! “I will not leave you, Dustox!” He called out and began to fly over to Shiwa until she instructed him to leave, promised to meet back up with him, and reminded him of their planned strategy.
Surely, the Wurmple below would need at least one capable leader that would help protect and defend them from the ravenous birds that tried to pluck them up and consume them at every turn. With a small tear caught in the corner of his eye, the Beautifly turned around and sped off to give just enough distance between himself and the other two combatants. He would then begin beating his wings together as a high frequency to whip up high winds that spun around in a powerful cyclone, that he unleashed on the Fearow.

FEAROW ➳ ♂ ➳ 15 ➳ Keen Eye
The Fearow had a difficult time keeping up with the small bugs even though he was much faster than either of them on his wings. How could two creatures who were so slowly at flying through the air in comparison to the large avian managed to duck and avoid him at every turn?! He managed to just barely miss the colony leader’s legs as he snapped down, pulling just a tiny piece of flesh off with his beak but not quite enough to leave serious, life-altering damages. It was similar to scraping your toe against a jagged rock where a bit of the skin had pulled away from the outermost layer of flesh. He grimaced, spitting out the excess exoskeleton of the bug that didn’t taste as appetizing as actually eating the Pokemon itself, and cawed out loudly. “You are only delaying your own demise!” He proclaimed, chasing after the bird through billowing white clouds high in the air.
The Beautifly managed to spin around, duck through the Fearow’s large and impressive body, and duck out from behind him before he had the chance to properly react. As the small black butterfly tried to zip between the large talons of the brave bird, the Fearow clutched at the air with his feet in several spots, trying to seize the other Pokemon in his grasp unsuccessfully. He spun around in the air and chased back after the constantly moving meal ticket. Shiwa would fly up in front of the Fearow, distracting the bird as the poisonous purple moth with bright green wings called out to the Fearow, asking him about dinner. Yes, he did want dinner and Dustox was definitely on the menu! “Do not act so cool, little bug! I will have you yet for dinner, wait and see!” He smirked before giving chase.
The Spearow called out to their fearless leader on the ground in a loud and unified voice. Many had been chased off, though many more fought in their stead. It seemed like the battle was a chaotic war that promise no outcome in sight. This was the kind of fight that the Fearow liked the most. He knew through bravery and perseverance that his flock would see themselves to the light of a new day as champions on the other side of this arduous fight. The Fearow unleashed a sharp trill as he hovered up high between two large nimbostratus clouds with a dark grey tint to their undersides. Was there a hint of rain in the hidden messages of the heavens above? The bright sun peered through glimpses between fluffy white and grey clouds as they breezed through the blue skies around them.
The Fearow sped off through the air and chased after the small purple moth with ravenous eyes. This little bug would not get away from his that easily. He struck out with a snapped beak that dripped heavy pools of saliva as they tried to grasp their moving target in vain, and long talons that he jabbed out at odd and erratic angles in the sky. “You promise a meal than run off like a coward. You are only prolonging your fate. Surrender now and I promise to eat you quickly so that you feel no pain.” The angry bird stilled his emotions so that he was able to come off with a calmer tone. He managed to scratch up Shiwa’s back several times as he pursued his target.
The two Bug Pokemon’s strong winds slammed into the bird from the northern and southern directions. The two cyclones spun in opposite directions, yanking and pulling on the bird. He felt one cyclone yank his head ad long neck to spin it around in circled clockwise, while the other cyclone pulled on his tailfeathers and feet to spin them around counter-clockwise. When the attack stopped the Fearow’s head was throbbed from a terrible headache that it left behind. He began to plummet towards the earthen ground below, though the Fearow managed to just catch himself in the nick of time to lift himself back up into the air.
He was weakened and tired. The Fearow could feel the power of their attack aided by the poison that pumped through his bloodstream underneath the thick layers of his skin. He could not afford to allow himself to become distracted by their endless taunting again. The Fearow flared his nostrils and narrowed his eyes as he sized up the Beautifly and Dustox independently to try and decide which of them was the weakest of the two so that he could appropriately attack them. Take out one of them so that the other would fall down as well. Like dominoes, they were meant to fail.

S H I W A ➳ ♀ ➳ 11 ➳ Shield Dust The dam was breaking and it would sweep everything out from underneath with its fast current. The anger in the large bird could not be stilled as its need to feed on the living organisms before it drove it nearly mad. Shiwa and her colony leader were putting up a brave defense. The way they worked in tandem to chase out and drive the Fearow in odd directions seemed to work to confuse the overpowering monstrosity as it chased after them through the air current and tried snap each of them up inside of its beaks. If they could continue to stall for time and coordinate their attacks amongst each other carefully, then they would have had a fighting chance at driving these birds back and out of the colony’s home.
Would they be alright, though, when Shiwa had to return back to her trainer? She frowned as the thought slowly bubbled up from the inner towards of her deep unconscious and through her subconscious to pound against mind like nails dragging themselves across a chalkboard. What would happen when Shiwa inevitably had to turn around and leave them to return back to her usual journeys with her trainer and casual merrymaking with her Pokemon companions. How could she begin to explain that not all Spearow were bad Pokemon given that she knew Hageshii as personally as she did and was reasonably certain that he would never hurt Shiwa or any of her friends?
Moments of war never offered adequate downtime to consider one’s thoughts with due diligence. She sped off and turned swiftly up as she drove herself through the layers of the atmosphere rising up past the cumulus clouds in the lower level, through the altostratus clouds that clung in the mid-level, and up towards the cirrus clouds in the high level. The air as different here and it felt almost like Shiwa was choking as she drove herself steadily higher and higher into the air. When she whipped back around, the purple moth noticed that the large brown bird remained in hot pursuit with its beady eyes fastened onto the bug Pokemon.
Shiwa then made a daring move as she spun herself back around to point her head towards the earthen ground below her. She folded up her wings on either side of her body and began plummeting towards the earth. Gravity yanked and pulled on her body, causing her to accelerate at a fast speed that would help keep her far enough out of beak’s reach of the Fearow even as she passed the Pokemon by on her descent back down to earth. The sweet bug Pokemon thought back on the moments that meant the most in life and recalled her evolutions carefully as her life flashed before her eyes.
She smiled as she pictured the happy-go-lucky and talkative Charmander that she would later get to know better as Kogasu play with her through the snowy region while the mousy-brown haired trainer tried to keep the Seel egg - that would later hatch into Uroko – warm and alive. He seemed scared and unreasonably nervous, though the two Pokemon couldn’t be bothered at the time as they tumbled about in the sloshy weather. After their battle, Zaiden had offered her a Pokeball, then carried her with him to Cherrygrove where Hageshii teamed up with Shiwa, Baunsu, and Kogasu to battle a troupe of Spearow, and through hard work and a lot of team work, they managed to drive them out. It was partially thanks to Gen’ie’s nasty trickery that they had even gotten into the mess to begin with. She was so sure that the Fearow would chase after she with the way she made herself a falling target that Shiwa wouldn’t have even noticed the Fearow change directions to chase after the Beautifly.
At the last minute before the Dustox’s body would make contact with the top of the trees and their entanglement of vines, she would pull herself back up in an instance to swoop back up and ram herself into the side of the large avian as hard as she could to tackle the other Pokemon. Shiwa glanced around and studied the world for a moment, then gasped to see how badly her companion was doing. The colony leader seemed as though he was barely hanging onto life itself as he flapped his wings and tried to remain airborne. “Leader!” Shiwa called out and sped after her though the Beautifly only waved towards the Fearow weakly and mumbled instructions just under his breath. Tears cascaded over the Dustox’s eyes and fell from Shiwa’s face through the maze of long, thick branches and bushes leaves, to the forest floor below. “Hang in there, Leader! Your colony needs you!” She gulped as she shouted and pleaded with the other Pokemon as fear seized her heart. This couldn’t be how it ended!

BEAUTIFLY ➳ ♂ ➳ 10 ➳ Swarm The war that had been waged on bug kind by the birds was brutal and had taken many casualties. The Beautifly knew that once this was over, he could not have them simply return to their old way of life. How could he expect to raise future generations of Wurmple in peace and solitude when their enemies – of which were numerous and powerful – lay in waiting just a talon’s reach away? Beautifly needed a better strategy to keep them all safe. Sadly, he considered relocating the colony to a safer location, though this might mean that the sick, injured, and elderly would not be able to safely make the trip with them.
Were they all still safely tucked away inside of the burrows? How many hurt Wurmple would live through this day? So many of the small, spiky pink caterpillars had already lost their lives to this war, and so many more were at risk of losing their lives as well. If Beautifly did not make this out alive, would those that were safely tucked away inside of their burrows live to see another day, or would the Spearow that lay in waiting on the other side manage to dig them out and gobble them up?
Then there was Dustox ,who fought bravely and majestically at Beautifly’s side. The colony leader was proud of the old Wurmple for having come so far in life, but felt sad that it would all be wasted on a fruitless battle that did not seem to get them very far. Beautifly’s bright blue eyes widened in surprise and concern as the Dustox shot up through the atmosphere like a rocket ship headed to space, before turning around and plummeting back down to earth. What was Dustox planning on? Was she tried to cause a distraction with the Fearow once more? The speed seemed to create small flames that encircled the purple moth as Shiwa came crashing back down towards the forested ground below.
If it was a distraction that the other Pokemon was trying to cause then it was a successful one. The large brown bird craned its long neck up as it chased after and followed the Dustox up, up, up through the atmosphere. When the purple poison moth shot past the brown bird, the Fearow would turn and crane its neck to follow the Dustox as it sped haphazardly back down to earth. The large bird chased off after the tiny bug and was slowly starting to catch up to the other Pokemon on its speedy wings. Beautifly panicked as she watched the jaws of death slowly catch up to the down spiraling moth. Was there anything left to save of his friend? Should the Beautifly focus on the battle at hand, take the moment he had to try to take the large bird out, and defend his colony? He couldn’t justify risking everything he knew and loved – the lives of all the other Wurmple or the lives of the hatchlings that had just started out in life – for the life of one Dustox.
You fought bravely, my friend. The Beautifly thought to himself as he watched the large bird chase after the purple moth with its beak nearly wrapping around the other Pokemon, set to gobble her up. He started whipping up strong gusts of wind as she prepared to attack the other Pokemon and fired them, one after the other, at the Fearow. The large bird craned its head up and pointed its long beak at the black butterfly in an instance as two strong gusts breezed past him and smiled. “You may eat us, and you may not. But I will defend my colony to the bitter end.” Beautifly promised and began whipping up another powerful cyclone to fire off after the Fearow. Fearow changed courses and sped after the Beautifly, easily catching up to the Pokemon and slashing at its body repeatedly with its long claws, nearly draining the life out of the other Pokemon.
Beautifly faltered on the air currents and fell. He flapped his wings as hard as he could and tried to stay airborne, but kept slipping on the air further towards the ground. His wings were tattered and torn by the large bird's talons as they raked and clawed into the Beautifly savagely. It took all that the Beautifly had just to whip up a powerful gust of wind that finally met their mark and tore into the large brown bird. The colony leader floated down in an odd pattern to a large branch nearby before curling up into a tired heap. I...can’t...let this be...how it ends... He thought, taking deep breaths of air to try and steady himself better. All Wurmple kind...need me...to protect them...

FEAROW ➳ ♂ ➳ 15 ➳ Keen Eye
The Fearow craned his long neck and pointed the equally long beak up towards the heavens above as he watched the poison moth makes its ascension through the clouds above. What did this little bug think it was doing? The brave bird doubted that the small bug was made for such high levels of flight. The Beak Pokemon could handle the high altitudes thanks to the evolution that afforded him a much wider chest, and lungs that could help filter out the oxygen in the air at the higher elevations. However, the small bug was made for short distances of flight. They were closer to ground dwellers, occasionally lifting themselves up higher into to reach the flowers that decorated the tops of really tall trees in order to better pollinate them. What did this moth think that it was doing ascending to the heavens above with such small lungs that would barely see it through the lower level to the middle level of the atmosphere?
He scoffed and sped up after the bug Pokemon. His wings beat like war drums with a rhythmic pattern that whirred almost silently inside of the Fearow’s mind. His beak parted open and stretched out towards the small bug hungrily. His salmon tongue swashed to-and-fro from one side of his beak to the other as the Fearow began to salivate over the expectation of food. Then the purple moth darted past him and confused the large Fearow. His eyes widened and his beak clamped shut several times though they only grasped air. Was this bug falling down from the heavens above, shot out of the kingdom of paradise and sent spiraling back down to earth?! “Come back her dinner!” He cried out, flapping his wings as fast as he could.
Fearow snapped all around the Dustox, barely missing it several times or just grazing its wings as he sped steadily closer to the fast-moving target. He could nearly taste the delectable bug in his mouth and imagined that Shiwa had a smooth, sweet, and savory taste. Her features seemed to beg that she was sweet to the taste, almost like honey or molasses dripping off the spoon and onto your tongue. The saliva that bubbled up in his lower beak nearly doubled and the large bird’s stomach rumbled as it begged for sustenance. Soon...soon... He promised. Then claps of strong wind currents would nearly ravage the Pokemon if it weren’t for his quick-thinking wings helping him fly just out of the way.
What was the Beautifly doing?! He turned his head from the purple moth to the black butterfly and back again as he tried to indecisively determine which of the Pokemon he should go after first. The moth seemed like an easy meal – a quick filler-up before he would dine on the Beautifly in a couple of quick gulps. But with the black butterfly relentless attacks, it was clear to the Beak Pokemon that he would need to take it out first, then come back to gobble up the basically dead Dustox. “If you want to be eaten first, then just say so.” He smirked and sped off after the Beautifly, lashing out with his talons as he chased the bug through the air, and managing to leave deep, long gashes in the butterfly’s wings.
The Dustox came out of nowhere and rammed the large Bird, causing him to momentarily lose his flight in the air. Fearow slipped a bit lower to the ground but easily recovered himself and beat his wings harder to lift himself back up. Then the Beautifly would use whatever remaining strength that it had with its torn wings to summon powerful gusts of air that slammed into the Fearow. The large bird fell to the earthen ground below where most of the Spearow had already fled or lay on the ground in a fainted heap from the Wurmple that had fought them back bravely. “You have won this round!” He grimaced as pain shot through every fiber of his body and the poison dug in deeper, “But we will be back to exact our revenge!” The large bird promised forebodingly as he flew off into the distance, returning back to his nests with the remainder of his flock.

SHIWA & BEAUTIFLY The battle was over but it did not feel like a victory. Shiwa sped over to the colony leader with concern written all over her face. He was in bad shape, with tattered wings and deep gashes that covered his sides. Shiwa landed on the branch beside him and reached out with her pink legs to grip onto her leader. Though the Beautifly tried to protest, “I must...see this...” before coughing heavily and laying out on the branch, Shiwa would interrupt him. The colony leader was in no shape to take care of himself or anyone else. He carefully pulled the black butterfly onto his back after gently wrapping up his wings and soared down to the ground below. A sea of pink bodies enveloped them with many of them looking as bad as their leader or worse. Some of the Wurmple’s usually bright, pointed yellow horns were broken off. Some of them have several gashes that ripped down and down their sides and backs. A few were missing feet or they were missing the poisonous barbs that jutted out of their rears. And a couple were missing an eye or were completely blinded.
“Leader!” Many called out as they lifted their small feet up to their mouths and gasped in horror. Beautifly tried to lift his head up and began coughing heavily. “I’ll be..alright...I’m sorry, Wurmple...I’m so sorry...” He lay his head back down as the purple moth slowly pulled the Beautifly off of her back and gently laid him on the ground in the tall blades of grass. The pink caterpillars exchanged looks between each other as their eyes began to water. Some murmured about medicine and help, while others began to nod vigorously. It was obvious that they were worried to death about how they would remain safe without their brave and noble Beautifly to help guide them and defend their home. But right now their leader needed them!
“Take our Colony Leader down to the healing chambers below and look after him. You,” Shiwa pointed to a large pink Wurmple who seemed to be in relatively good shape. “Are you well enough to go track down some wild herbs from the forest? We need healing ones and all the Oran berries you can find!” The large pink Wurmple nodded his head vigorously, shaking the large pink spikes that shot out of his skull back and forth, before taking off through the tall grass in search of the healing medicines that would help their fallen friend. “I need all the able bodied Wurmple to help escort the injured to our healing chambers below. I need half of the most fit Wurmple remaining to go look for healing herbs and lots of Oran berries and half of you to remain with me so that we can put up sentries to guard the area! There were many casualties today. We will have a funeral for our fallen friends, rest assured, after we take care of the ones who made it through his nightmare.” Shiwa promised.
She would lead and guide them around the route, giving each able bodied Wurmple their set of instructions as they slowly rebuilt their fallen kingdom. There was a brief moment in Shiwa’s newfound purpose and life where she had forgotten about her trainer and her traveling companions that she had abandoned somewhere on Route 29. A strange voice shot through the trees and causes the branches to sway and the leaves to rustle. It echoed, a foreboding message that begged for the small bug to find its way back to the place she had originally flown away from. “Shhiiiwaaaa!” The all-too-familiar voice reverberated through the trees, drawing closer and closer to the Wurmple paradise.
Shiwa ignored it for the time being to make sure that all of her companions were back to their normal operations. She knew that she had a tough decision to face now. The colony needed a leader and there was no way that she could abandon them while Beautifly rested in the chambers below to heal back up after the tough and grueling battle below. But she was an owned Pokemon, and so she had no right or claim to her old colony. Tears welled up inside of her eyes as she glanced at the quickly scurrying of feet and buggy bodies who whipped themselves this way and that through the route, off to either gather supplies or to survey the area for signs of danger. “Shhiiiwwaaaa!” As the voice drew steadily closer to their happy, secluded once-upon-a-time paradise, Shiwa knew what she had to do.
“Wurmple!” She called forth the toughest and bravest Wurmple out of the entire Colony who had managed to make it out of the fight with most of his body parts intact. The overly large pink bug scurried over to the Dustox and nodded its pointy head up and down as he spoke. “Yes sir!” As sign of respect more than just title, “You called? What is it that you need, Dustox?” He asked. Dustox sighed and lowered her head for a moment. Her large, fluffy yellow antennas drooped a bit as the words slowly eased their way from her mouth. This was not an easy thing to ask for, but it needed to be done. “I need you to watch over the colony until I return. There is a human approaching that I need to chase off.” Shiwa didn’t like how harsh her voice sounded, though these words are commonly spoken among the Wurmple since the dawn of their colony’s existence.
The large Wurmple nodded. “Yes Dustox!” It promised and raised one of its small arms as if to place it on its head but they were much too small to do that with. Instead, the tiny white arm simply pointed up towards the blue skies and tangle of branches and leaves above. “I promise to guard everyone with my life!” The poison moth stretched out her bright green wings and soared on the air towards her trainer, meeting them before they could discover the hidden trove of Wurmple – most of whom were badly injured and needed a powerful and evolved Pokemon to look after them. “There you are!” Zaiden called out to Shiwa, relieved.
