At her cozy home in New Bark Town, nestled in the Johto Region, Maddy Valson lay sound asleep, wrapped snugly in her blankets. The soft morning light trickled through the curtains, but Maddy hadn’t stirred. Her dreams were filled with the sounds of bustling cities and wild forests, places she longed to explore. Suddenly, her mother's voice echoed from downstairs, cutting through her dream.
"Maddy, wake up! Professor Elm is waiting for you!"
Maddy's eyes shot open. "Wah, oh no! I'm going to be late!" she gasped, jumping out of bed in a panic. The familiar sight of her room—posters of famous trainers and her packed travel bag—blurred as she scrambled to get ready. Her heart raced as she grabbed her backpack.
Today wasn’t just any day. It was the day she was supposed to meet Professor Elm to receive her first official assignment as a Pokémon Trainer. She’d been preparing for this moment for years, but now, oversleeping felt like a rookie mistake. As she rushed down the stairs, her mother gave her a knowing smile, holding out a packed lunch. "You’ll need this for the road. And try not to rush too much—you’ll do great."
Maddy thanked her mother quickly, grabbing the lunch and bolting out the door. The fresh air of New Bark Town filled her lungs as she sprinted toward Professor Elm’s lab, determination burning in her eyes despite the early mishap. "I can’t believe I almost missed this!" she muttered to herself, but deep down, she knew she had the skills and heart to overcome any challenge, even if it meant running against time. And then, she opened Professor Elm's lab and shouts. "Hi, I'm here for Professor Elm!" She shouted in excitement.

Maddy arrived to the lab to receive her first pokemon on what should have been a day like any other. Except, when the door swung open, it revealed a scene of CHAOS. The lab assistants were running around with nets and baskets, while others were collecting papers off the floor. One was chasing around a charmander who apparently escaped its pokeball, while another was getting squirted in the face by a squirtle. The poor Professor Elm was trying to coax a hissy sentret from the top of his file cabinets, and looked over in time to see Maddy witness this whole fiasco. He smiled sheepishly, "Ah, you must be my next appointment. As you can see, we are having some...minor difficulties this afternoon." He paused. "Your starter is...ah, right here. Why don't you help me out a little? See if that little bulbasaur will listen to you and maybe grab this sentret from up high with its vines..." He rummaged in his pockets and offered her the starter kit. "And you know what, you could even try throwing a pokeball or two as well. We can call this practice!" ooc// Please correct your signature to include a link to your character bio please <3

Before Maddy could react, a small, worried-looking Bulbasaur slowly walked up to her. The grass-type Pokémon gazed up with wide eyes, clearly anxious about the situation. Maddy bent down to meet its gaze. "Wow, I guess Bulbasaur is worried that Professor Elm has a problem," she said, concern edging into her voice. She gave the Pokémon a reassuring smile before glancing back at the rampaging Sentret.
Bulbasaur tilted its head to the left, making a soft sound as it tried to understand Maddy’s reaction. Maddy met Bulbasaur’s curious look with a nod, her confidence growing as she realized what needed to be done. "Don’t worry, professor. I can handle this," she called over to Professor Elm, who was frantically trying to corral Charmander and Squirtle back into their Poké Balls.
Maddy turned her full attention to the Sentret, her mind already planning how to stop the playful troublemaker. "Bulbasaur, time to knock Sentret out of its senses!" she commanded. Bulbasaur's eyes lit up with determination as it faced the mischievous Sentret, ready to act. Maddy’s heart raced, but she knew she had the situation under control now. "Let’s show Sentret who’s boss!"
Bulbasaur smiles and nodded, then focusing on Sentret with confidence stare. Maddy knows Bulbasaur's moves since she was young and her dad explains about Pokemon known moves. "Let's see, Bulbasaur has known moves... Tackle and Growl." Maddy smiles and she know how. "Use Tackle, hit on Sentret's stomach." Bulbasaur launches herself for a Tackle attack as she ran towards Sentret, then quickly bash Sentret's stomach, sending it flying.

The poor sentret were double the size than normally simply because it was fluffing its furs out from agitation. It hissed and swiped at Elm or anyone else who came close, clearly uncomfortable with the situation and with no clear escape route was opting for the fight response. It's tip of its tail was singed, so charmander had apparently tried to 'help' and clearly made it much worse. Said charmander was chased out of the room by the assitant who were trying to get it under control, while the squirtle had backed into a corner and sprayed anyone who got near, the lab assistant who tried to grab it was soaking wet already. Elm was surprisingly calm despite the situation. "That sounds good! I'm sure you can get bulbasaur to lift it down with its vines," Elm repeated confidently. That would certainly be the most logical, and then Maddy could get the wild normal type outside and they could continue the battle there, that would be perfect! Only problem was, Maddy wasn't going with the plan Elm suggested, instead she asked the grass type to tackle, a pokemon far out of reach on the top of the cabinet. The sentret were still hissing but calmed down a bit now there weren't anyone actively trying to grab it. "Eh.." Elm trailed off with a finger in the air, confusion on his face as he couldn't follow Maddy's plan. "How..? How are you going to reach it?" He asked, it was still sitting on top of a cabinet and bulbasaurs wasn't really known as great climbers. Mimiko followed orders as best as she could, and she charged forward with the intention of doing as she had been told. With the sentret being about two meters in the air above her though, she instead of charging into soft belly fur, crashed straight into the bottom of the shelf. Creaking sounds followed, and the sentret frantically tried to get a good hold of cabinet as it fell forward, it failed and instead leaped from the top and rolled up into a tight ball, which hit the floor hard before it rolled off into the opposite wall. "My files!" Elm shouted upset as paper flew everywhere. The cabinet had luckily been open in front, more of a bookcase than a cabinet with drawers, and it had been a light one, so instead of being crushed beneath, Mimiko was simply buried. The cabinet moved slightly as the bulbasaur tried to push it up to get out. Wild Encounter Weather: Clear [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Sentret LV 5 HP 80% [16/20]

Bulbasaur quickly shook off the mess, eyes locking onto the Sentret that had curled up defensively. Maddy noticed the shift in the Sentret's stance. "So it used Defense Curl... Well, in that case…" She grinned, ready for the next move. "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip to grab Sentret!"
Bulbasaur nodded, her vines glowing as they shot out. The vines wrapped around the tightly curled Sentret, pulling it down from the corner where it had rolled. With a swift motion, Bulbasaur slammed the Sentret down onto the floor, breaking through its defense. The lab was still a mess, but Maddy's quick thinking had turned the tide.
"Gotcha!" Maddy cheered, watching as the wild Sentret stopped resisting, dazed from the impact.

The balled up sentret was having the WORST day. Much like the humans who were being harassed and struggling to keep order while pokemon were turning the lab into a playground, this fluffy little creature thought it was being needlessly bullied. First that one human kept trying to shoo it from on top of its hiding spot and then suddenly, another human started barking orders at plant pokemon. A tackle was all it took to destroy its carefully selected hiding spot. The bulbasaur crashed into the shelf and the sentret was brought down with the collapse, covered in heaps of books and other such things that Elm kept on it. Braced for impact, it had curled up in a ball, protecting its tender bits as it hit the floor and was instantly forced to access its situation. There was no safety here. But it was so, so scared. It was prepared to make a made dash out of its den of debris when suddenly it was assailed by vines! The little sentret hissed and swatted at them, but it couldn't get a good angle, so ultimately, those vines gripped around its middle and yanked it from the pile. Hissing and squirming, it continued to try to flee, but the bulbasaur had a too strong of a grip and slammed it back down into the ground, force it to once more curl up as much as possible to brace for impact. Tall ears twitched. Then, it bit the bulbasaur's vine and bolted, launching itself at a row of cabinets and attempting to scale them. Weak as it was, it wasn't about to just sit there and be a target. Elm groaned, "Please be careful. Ah, I have an idea! Perhaps you could throw one of those pokeballs I gave you? I'm sure it will calm right down if it's caught." Please no more wrecking the stuff in his lab. (ooc: Repeat warning: Please refrain from writing whether your attack hit or not, as that is up to the mod. Even if a move has 100% accuracy, things can happens that makes it miss and often the mods generally guide the flow of the battle. Wild pokemon are considered mod NPCs, and modded NPCs are controlled by the mod like it's their own character, which means you should not preemptively call out what it feels/says/does. If done repeatedly you risk the move you described missing. Everyone slips up now and then, even us mods, but it's often best practice to say "attempted to do ACTION" over "xyz happened exactly this way".)

Maddy nodded with a surprise. "Oh yeah!" Then she pick up a Poke Ball from her bag and staring at a wild Sentret. "Sentret, no more wrecking places!" She then throw a Poke Ball. "Go, Poke Ball!" She yelled while throwing her Poke Ball.

Professor Elm smiled. It was delightful to see the eager and enthusiasm that Maddy had in wanting to reprimand Sentret even before she was sure she had caught it. Her Poke Ball soared through the air and tapped Sentret on top of the head, sucking the small Pokemon in easily. Sentret’s ball rolled around on the floor, indicating that the Pokemon was struggling to break free. “Now we wait and see if it’s successful. You did all the right things.” Elm stated. “When you lower their health first, or inflict certain status conditions, it’ll make wild Pokemon easier to capture.” He continued to explain the basics. He then gestured towards the door after making sure that Maddie had all the things she needed to start her journey. “You’ll find many more wonderful and fantastical creatures we call Pokemon out in the wild on your journey.” He smiled as Sentret’s ball finally dinged, announcing a successful capture. “Well, look at that! You caught your new Pokemon. Are you going to name it?” Elm asked Maddie curiously. Before bidding her a fond farewell, he would look at her a bit more expectantly as well. “We’re also looking for assistance researchers to help us better understand the Pokemon in our world. Please come see me if you think you’re up for the challenge.” He added with a warm smile. Mimiko gained +3 levels to [Lv 8]! Mimiko learned Growth! Sentret has been added to Maddy's Party. Maddy holding her caught Poke Ball and call out her Sentret. Sentret happily cheered and roll around at the lab before she grabbed her. Maddy smiles at her newly caught Sentret. "I think I'll named you... Rolly, because you like being rolling around." Maddy said as she named her Sentret Rolly before she focusing on Professor Elm and shakes her head. Elm looked disappointed for a moment, the more trainers helping him, the more data he would get which in turn would make his work easier. He knew that not all trainers were interested in catching everything they encountered, and he had to accept that. He smiled to the new trainer "Of course, let me know if you change your mind," he offered and his smiled became more genuine as he watched her interact with her new sentret. Outside it was a clear, cold day, New Bark Town was rather quiet as most people were at work and the kids at school. A few pidgeys were picking at the ground but took to the sky when Maddy stepped outside. Little would happen while she walked through through town, there were a little plaza with a board in the middle and some benches. If Maddy checked out the board she would see that, there were some postings of people looking for help, and offering small rewards from it. Out the corner of her eye, Maddy would notice that someone was walking towards her, or rather something as it was a pokemon, and walking might be too nice of a word as it was stumbling around as if it was drunk, or very dizzy. Since it wasn't walking in a straight line, it took some time, but eventually it made its way up to her and stood there swaying swinging its arms around to keep its balance while it smiled at her. "I'll show you the way out of town, if you'll battle me first!" It offered in pokespeech, which if not she herself could speak that, her pokemon surely could. Spinda [Lv 7] offers to show you the way out of town, if you battle it first. Weather will be frost (clear)There is also the option of checking out the Job Board to see if there were any small tasks Maddy could be interested in doing. Maddy smiles and become interested, and decide to battle Spinda. She call out Mimiko. "Alright, Mimiko!" Mimiko the Bulbasaur chirped and stares at Spinda. Maddy has better be careful for Spinda's level. "Mimiko, be careful." Maddy said in concerns. Mimiko looked back and nodded before focusing on Spinda, then proceed the first attack.

A battle! Alright. It was looking forward to proving how tough it was against this human and its pokemon. It had the toughest paws this side of New Bark! So put'em up, you overgrown tulip, this was gonna be a knock out, drag down fight. Huzzah! With great eagerness, the spinda wobbled drunkenly forward, head tilting down. Then, it started to run, managing to plow a straight line through the thin layer of snow on the ground and slam into the bulbasuar with considerable force! The spinda bounce back and wobbled on one foot, trying to keep its balance, but that meant it was unable to defend itself from those grappling vines. Oh no! It flailed and floundered, only to get smacked into the frosty ground a few times. <I am undefeated and that will not change with you!> the spinda cried out, wriggling free of those vines so that it could be back onto its feet once more, paws up and ready for a challenge. ooc// I've noticed your last few posts have been very short. Maddy gritted her teeth as she watched Spinda land a solid hit on her Bulbasaur, who staggered slightly but kept its footing. "Oh man, that Spinda is tough." Determined not to let the battle turn against her, she quickly called out to her Pokémon. "Mimiko! Let’s show them what we’ve got!" she shouted, her voice firm and encouraging. Mimiko, her loyal Bulbasaur, understood immediately, narrowing its eyes at the dizzying Spinda as it extended its vines. With a swift, practiced motion, Mimiko lashed out with its vines, aiming to strike with precision and control, ready to counter whatever Spinda threw at them next.
Maddy clenched her fists, her jaw tight as she watched Spinda’s unpredictable movements, each step a reminder of how tricky this opponent could be. The blow to her Bulbasaur had been strong, and she could see Mimiko wobbling slightly, but the determination in her Pokémon’s eyes mirrored her own.
“Come on, Mimiko, we’ve trained for moments like this!” she called out, her voice full of encouragement. The loyalty between trainer and Pokémon was clear as Mimiko steadied itself, nodding in agreement with a fierce glint in its eyes. Maddy took a quick, steadying breath, her mind racing as she considered their next move.

<These paws are coming back for you!> Shouted the spinda as it stumbled forward, swaying and wobbling, arms flailing about to meet each of the bulbasaur's precise strikes. They were near evenly matched, one for one, blow for blow. The spinda twisted and turned, difficult to get a grip on. The bulbasaur would wrap one vine around an arm or a leg but the wily bear would just stumble its way right out. It got close and SMACKED the grass type on top of the head with both paws before fumbling back. <I am the best! I am the best!> The little bear staggered back and slipped on a patch of frost, landing on its back. <Ah! OH NO! I HAVE BEEN BAMBOOZLED! A TRAP, A TRAP!" Though for someone stuck in a supposed trap, the spinda was pretty quick to roll over and stumble to its feet, facing off with the bulbasaur again. <I HAVE ESCAPED! Aren't I the best?! As Maddy observed the battlefield, she noticed something interesting—each time Spinda stepped near a patch of snow, it wobbled just a bit more, its balance faltering as it tried to find steady footing. A spark of inspiration lit up in her eyes, and she quickly turned her gaze to her Bulbasaur, Mimiko, who was awaiting her next command with unwavering focus.
"Mimiko!" she called, her voice ringing with excitement. "I’ve got an idea. Use your vines to gather up a big ball of snow! We can use it to throw Spinda off even more!" Mimiko perked up, recognizing the strategy and giving a determined nod. The little Bulbasaur stretched its vines forward, reaching into the fresh snow scattered around the battlefield, skillfully wrapping them around the powdery surface to gather as much as possible.
As Mimiko continued gathering snow, Maddy encouraged her, watching carefully as the ball grew larger. “That’s it, Mimiko! Pack it tight so it’ll hold together. Let’s make it really count!” She could feel her heart pounding in anticipation, hoping that this tactic would tip the balance in their favor.
With a final tug, Mimiko held the snowball aloft, vines wrapped around it securely as it hovered, ready to launch. Maddy gave a small, confident smile, raising her hand as if to signal the final move. “Now, Mimiko—aim it right at Spinda! Let’s shake things up!”
With a swing in action, Mimiko hurled the snowball toward Spinda, sending it flying through the air in a swift, icy arc. Maddy held her breath as she watched, waiting to see if their improvised plan would pay off.
