So, as an avid Sims lover... I've played since the early days of the PS1, and played all the Sims 1 and Sims 2 games, all packs included. I bought the Sims 3 when it came out and such, fun stuff. I've recently got back into playing it, and I'm wondering if anyone thinks it's worth getting the expansions?

My first memories of The Sims was way back at one of my old best friend's houses who played it a little on the PC. It looked pretty fun but I never really got to grips with it. It wasn't until I picked up the ones for the Gamecube did I really have a go playing the series. It was a bit annoying due to the fact the memory needed for the game was just one above the normal memory cards (Instead of 59 it needed 60 block memory >_<). The fact it had two player was pretty cool as me and my best friend started building a mansion, dressing ourselves up in gentlemanly suits and inviting other sims over for a spot of tea. We then gestured them over to the tacky room (it had like cow print wallpaper and so on) and locked them in just as we set the fireplace on next to all these wooden bits of furniture. We then sipped our tea as they burned away. Good times. ;D The trick to kill a Sim by moving the swimming pool away as they jumped was pretty cool too. Now i've got the urge to play The Sims... Thanks Julia. Not too sure about The Sims 3. Although I have heard the Expansions add quite a few bits of variety to the main game itself.

*laughs* Why is it that everyone goes about killing Sims? I know I used too... I sometimes loved to make mine die by flies. >D!! Yeah, the Sims 3 expansion packs make it amazing. It's like playing a whole 'nother game instead of the Sims. But, as per usual, they're expensive. x--x So I haven't been to keen on buying them yet.

I have no idea why people seem to get an insatiable urge inside them to kill sims when they play. I guess it might have something to do with the fact over how whiney some of them can be. Plus i've noticed some Sims can be real douchebags. Another incident we had between me and my friend was we recreated this fat kid from our school who was always being an absolute prick towards us. We eventually killed him and all that jazz but... There was a problem... GHOSTS. HE CAME BACK AS A GHOST. Funny thing was, ghosts remove certain bits of furniture right? Well the hilarious thing was, he appeared one night and STOLE our FRIDGE. THAT FAT PIECE OF LARD. I think that's the one gripe I have with Sims/Maxis/EA. The Sims games are brilliant but I can't help but be left with a feeling that the expansions packs plus the games they are centred around should be one WHOLE game. When you look at something on its own without the expansions it seems so much less. Happened exactly the same with Spore. Oh well, I suppose there's always the possibility they might drop in price due to a sale or whatever.

Pah, drop the price? Never. :3 I plan to go on eBay or Amazon to buy a used one for like 50% off. My only fear is that used ones may be tampered with. >_> Hopefully not. Still, I can always complain and get a refund. Oh well. :3
I do remember... My friend and I, on the way early Sims for the PS1, we got a whole family... And you must remember how hard it was to actually have a family that early on. We got them all stuck in the swimming pool and took bets on which ones would die faster. Surprisingly, it was the adults. x3 Mrow, those were some good times. Recently, I was playing Sims 3 and they have that cheat with the mailbox and such. How you can keep all happy, make moods static, make friends, etc. It also allows you to force age transitions. So I had a family-oriented couple and they had like... fifty kids. Who I killed and such... >_> But, they all came back as ghosts and terrorized the mom and dad.

I think the whole killing the Sims thing definitely came with the first game. That version was so rough and mechanical the only fun thing to do was to figure out how many ways you could end your Sims lives. You basically figured out the whole game in a few hours and it honestly got a big monotonous. The Sims 2 didn't help either when they color coded the ghosts and added new ways for them to die

The Sims 3 has some interesting ways, I won't lie. Still, it's a lot more... fun actually, there's more to the game then just killing them. Thank god EA realized that was one of the big reasons anyone played those games. xD

I totally love these games. My friend and I love building houses on these things. Although she's much better at it then me. My houses always look junked up.

Seeing this topic made me want to play a Sims game. Sadly I have none. None within playable reach that is. It's a total time sink but ah well. Funniest thing is when you create lookalike Sims from the gaming world or celebrities and pit them against one another in a Big Brother styled royale.

Funniest thing is when you create lookalike Sims from the gaming world or celebrities and pit them against one another in a Big Brother styled royale. I have done that. Ever just put all your Sims into a massive house, delete the door and just watch them kill each other/enjoy each other's genitalia? IT'S THE BEST THING EVAR!

Or better yet place them in a very small room with not much room to move around and delete the door.

Or better yet place them in a very small room with not much room to move around and delete the door. That just kills them. You've entirely missed the point; the point is to see how they interact without me there to guide them. Not randomly kill them. Honestly, I got out of that phase about 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, I have had only bad experiences with The Sims.. the only game I have ever owned was Sims: Bustin' Out! for the GameCube. I know.. :C but I love that sort of thing (and bought Spore?) so I'd looove to play it properly, it's just annoying as I don't have a permanent laptop/computer, so it seems impractical. I'll play it at yours, Scott? :D So can you make neighbourhoods and cities and all, or just individual people? Which game would you veterans recommend as the best in the series?

Sims: Bustin' Out! for the GameCube. I'm not the only one! I had that too and it was pretty funny in places. The only thing that really cheesed me off was the memory card space. It was massive. I think the first one was a real disappointment though. Memory cards held like 99 blocks but The Sims 1 for GC was 100 or one over the maximum. Actually maybe it was 59 blocks. It's been so long. :(
