Got this in the post today after watching it on Film4 a week or so back. I must admit, I wasn't expecting much but it's absolutely brilliant. It's a bit stupid in places but the funny kind of stupid. I also keep seeing the Axe Gang as Team Rocket just for the fact they're made out to be this evil organisation but keep getting pummelled by everyone and their mother.
I've also heard news of a sequel being released in 2012... Must say, if it isn't too much of a departure in style and comedy like the first i'm going to love it.

The official synopsis states: "In Shanghai, China in the 1940s, a wannabe gangster aspires to join the notorious "Axe Gang" while residents of a housing complex exhibit extraordinary powers in defending their turf."
That is a very succinct summary of it but there is just so much more to it than the description. The 'notorious Axe Gang' are a bunch of stylish wearing mobsters who boogie away to gangster like themes with their trademark axe, the residents of Pig Sty alley have a few secrets and when you (and not to mention the Axe Gang) realise they aren't a simple pushover, you really appreciate how good the film is. It's just one of those films you have to watch if you even remotely like martial art films or comedy.
