I just saw Insidious about 3 hours ago and I have one word: wow.
Firstly, this movie contained no blood. At all. I know; a scary(ish) movie made in the last couple of years didn't contain blood! I was so shocked.
Now, onto the movie itself: tense. The makers did an amazing job at building the tension up until just the correct moment and then making you jump. You could see the scares coming but, still, your arse left that seat!
Also, there was a range of scares. There were really subtle things in the movie to petrify you and then there were the big, epic scares that were in your face, making you immediately empty your bowels.
Overall, this movie is the perfect breath of fresh air that the haunted house genre needs. Such a stale genre needed a movie like this to make them think outside the box. Of course, it's impossible(ish) to bring anything new to the horror genre as a whole but this does an excellent job of making the plots look fresh.
HOLYSHIT! I forgot the beautiful comic relief towards the end of the first half that did an excellent job of breaking the tension up between scares - very well done.
YOU SHOULD ALL GO SEE IT RIGHT NOW. (PS. It definitely had its faults but it was still a very good movie so don't be all 'you said it was flawless'. It's clearly going to have flaws but I think it was a very good movie for what it is: a suspenseful haunted house horror.

Everything has flaws so that's not a problem. You could find something you consider flawless and someone else would most likely find some subjectively wrong with it. Plus flaws can add to the charm of a film. *cough... B-Movie horrors...cough*
I've seen a load of trailers and it does look good. Just to confirm, the seem to have promoted it as "this house isn't haunted... IT'S YOUR SON DUN DUN DUNNNN!" type of angle and was just wondering if that was accurate. Sounds like it could make for a bit of change to the tried and tested formula of house being built on Indian burial ground etc

Yeah... lol. Personally, if I discovered my son was the reason random ghosts kept attacking me, I'd throw the *****er off a bridge... which they don't seem to think about. Also, THEY ACTUALLY MOVE HOUSE. I know, I know, logic in a Haunted House movie? Mental.

Is this the sort of film that has a warning at the start along these lines?: It is recommended that pregnant women and people who suffer from heart conditions leave the theatre. If so, I'm not entirely sure I * should go see it... *I am not pregnant nor do I have a heart condition as far as I am aware. Just an extremely (medically!) paranoid disposition.
