Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ Munchy trotted alongside Sandy, not quite looking at her, but instead staring at the gym that was just ahead of them. He continued until Sandy had to assist him by opening the door. The interior to Sandy was amazing. It looked a lot like a real forest, many bug Pokémon diving in and out of grass and weaving around the air.
The place vaguely reminded her she’d have to check with her mom and ask how her Ledyba Comet was doing. She let her eyes wander to the Arena. The large space was sitting in a ring of trees, and she was nervous.
Though Munchy looked calm. He could take these bugs, and even if he fell, scatter and Cocoa were waiting in the wings. He knew there was also the possibility of Cocoa getting sent out before him, but that was okay.
Sandy looked down at Munchy, and noted his eager expression. He wanted to do this more than anyone else. She wished he would voice these feelings with her more, and be less…distant. Sandy raised a hand and called out.
“Bugsy! I’ve come to challenge you!” The Quilava beside her grunted. He wanted to fight more than anyone, so maybe Sandy would think twice about who to send out as her front. Sandy knew she was going to need the Quilava, so he was already first in her line up. Simply smiling, she hoped a battle would get him back to his old attitude. She liked that better, after all.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bugsy had been tending to some Ledyba in the back room that had been injured in Ilex Forest when Sandy walked in, and was still working with them before one of the gym aides dashed in. "Excuse me leader!" the young woman panted, nearly doubled over. She fought to catch her breath and straightened up as Bugsy turned round and looked at her curiously. "A Trainer has entered and issued a challenge."
At the mention of a challenge, the purple haired youth perked up visibly. "Oh a challenger.. excellent! Just give these Ledyba some specially marked food in the cupboard and get back to your duties," Bugsy told the aide before exiting the room swiftly. Grabbing his net from where it was propped on the wall, he emerged into the main part of the gym. He followed a quick path through the trees and appeared on the other side of the arena opposite Sandy.
One of the referee's had already taken up his post at the middle of the field with his blue and red flags held by his side. He nodded at Bugsy as the leader stepped onto the spot marked for him and faced his opponent. "So you're here to challenge Azalea Town Gym huh? Looks like you're already prepared to face the special Bug types I've been raising!" the leader commented enthusiastically.
He grinned in a friendly manner at the girl and her Quilava. Reaching into the pocket of his green shorts, the kid pulled out a Poké Ball and let it fly. Bursting open, the sphere released a small yellow chrysalis pod that bounced on the ground once it touched down, black eyes fixed on Munchy. "The battle between the challenger and Gym Leader Bugsy is now underway. This is a one on one, three Pokémon battle. When one side has no usable Pokémon, the match will be declared over. You may begin!" the referee called, blowing a short whistle.
"Alright challenger, if you could grace us with your name and Pokémon of choice, we can get the ball rolling!" Bugsy said after the whistle, adjusting his signature net more comfortably against his shoulder. His Kakuna buzzed as it waited impatiently for the girl to call forth her sparring partner.
Gym Leader Bugsy has accepted your challenge!
Bugsy sent out his Kakuna (Level 19)!

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ Sandy listened to the words of the Referee, her breathing was steady, so at least she wasn’t going to freak out and freeze up in the middle of battle. All of a sudden, she heard Bugsy asked for her name and choice of Pokémon, so they could begin.
“Erm…I’m Sandy. And I…uhm…” She looked over to Munchy. She wanted to use him, but it seemed a lot easier to start off With Cocoa, since the young Marill hadn’t seen many battles since Sprout Tower. She sighed, and hoped Munchy would understand.
“Cocoa, let’s go!” She threw the ball up into the air, and the little blue ball came out of her hiding spot, a deep yellow bow adorning her tail and gently swaying before standing still. Surprisingly enough to Sandy, Munchy gave a call of confidence to Cocoa, who returned it with a wink and a paw up. Munchy looked up at Sandy expectantly, waiting for her to kick off the battle.
“Right, Cocoa, let’s start with an Ice Beam!” Cocoa didn’t hesitate, she knew how impotant this battle was. She let the spike of ice form at the back of her throat before letting it out as a jet of shiny blue that made its way steadily across the field.

Vs. Gym Leader Bugsy- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Though the girl seemed a bit nervous, Bugsy gave her a reassuring smile. "Nice to meet you Sandy. I'm sure you'll give this your all and make it a fun battle," the young leader said enthusiastically. It had been a fairly long time since he'd had a decent battle (or a battle at all, for that matter), and he was looking forwards to seeing what this girl could do.
He was surprised when she sent out a Marill instead of her Quilava, making things even more interesting. "Well, Kakuna, let's get things started and kick off with Poison Sting!" Bugsy ordered, pointing at Coca. The Kakuna buzzed once in reply and hopped forwards, beady black eyes locked on Cocoa. The Marill shrank back slightly, wondering how the pod could attack.
A little purple glow appeared just under its eyes where a small black hole had opened up. From the glow came a spray of poisonous nettles that soared over the grass to embed themselves painfully into Cocoa's skin. She yelped and used her long tail to brush them out before they could infuse her blood with toxins. Huffing, the Marill took a deep, steadying breath before prepping her counter attack.
The icy energy ball in her mouth caused her breath to fan out as fog before she let it go, sending a whizzing bolt streaking into the Kakuna's midsection in a critical hit! The force of the blow was so powerful it sent the chrysalis pod spinning off the ground and into Bugsy's stomach. The leader cradled his Pokémon, making sure it was still okay to battle before letting it hop back to the ground.
"Wa-hey, wasn't expecting something like that! That's a great start to our battle!" Bugsy mused, hiding the twinge of apprehension that wormed its way into his stomach. Her Pokémon were clearly well trained, though he still had his ace. Even with her Fire type in waiting, it gave plenty of people trouble despite type advantages. This thought acted as a talisman and would help with what came his way. Gym Leader Battle

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ Sandy gave a sigh of relief as the blue mouse ranaged to bat the poison needles away with her tail before the poison was injected into her system. Though the attacked seemed to disgruntle her, Cocoa was still good to fight. Sandy chuckled a bit at the leader’s words.
“Heh…it is a surprise...” She wasn’t hiding the fact that she didn’t expect a critical either. Cocoa gave a squeak of annoyance and Sandy gave a slight rub of her head.
“No, I think you’re attack was perfect! Wanna try that again? Ice Beam!” Cocoa looked down for a minute, and Munchy called out to her. The mouse picked up her head, put a paw to her head in salute, and began to form another Ice beam. Sandy looked down at Munchy, who in turn looked back up at her with a disinterested look. Either way, Sandy was glad Munchy gave someone on the team encouragement.
At least to Cocoa, it seemed to be helping her confidence, and Sandy was happy that Munchy didn't seem upset about her Pokemon choice for the first match up.

Vs. Gym Leader Bugsy- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - He looked cool and collected as ever as he looked over at Cocoa, wondering best how to proceed. Poison Sting would be useful in case it went critical as well, or even better, caused the Marill to double over with poison. But it was a weak attack and his Kakuna had another offensive move in its arsenal. Perhaps this would shake things up a little.
Pointing at Cocoa, the purple haired leader called out. "Kakuna, use Bug Bite!" The yellow pod buzzed in acknowledgement and began to hop forwards rather quickly, unburdened by its shape (unlike its fellow cocoon teammate). Voidless black eyes twinkled as it quickly drew up close to Cocoa and launched itself at her.
Something sharp and horrible sank into her flesh, causing a piercing pain that had the aqua mouse yelping in pain. She swung her tail at the Kakuna and managed to knock it sideways, causing it to tear her skin a little as it flew off. The pod quickly righted itself and hopped back to where its trainer stood, almost looking as if it were smirking. Cocoa's eyes watered as she rubbed her belly with her tail, trying valiantly to ignore the agony.
But she could get her revenge for that, and really, it was a dish best served cold. Nearly smiling, the Marill prepped her attack and waited until the Kakuna was beginning to turn around before letting loose a blast of icy energy. The beam soared over the field and struck the pod in the forehead and causing it to flip, end over end, and fall onto its face. Munchy snickered as Bugsy knelt down and helped his Kakuna up and asked it if it still wanted to fight.
"Well that was a nice effort but it'll take more than that to defeat one of my Pokémon!" Bugsy called over to Sandy. His partner buzzed irritably, not at all pleased with the idea of handing over a victory to the pesky blue rodent. Gym Leader Battle

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ She understood all too well that defeating this Gym leader was no piece of cake. She became flustered at his last sentence, and held her hands up in a kind of guard if she had done anything that made her seem cocky.
“I didn’t think this was going to be a walk through the park, I promise that!” She looked over at Cocoa, who raised a paw at her from where she was standing, and she smiled softly at the mouse. “Though, my Pokémon are training at their own pace, and they’re really coming along, so, we’re still planning on doing our best to win.” Munchy let out a snort of agreement and the girl again turned to her aqua mouse.
“Alright Cocoa, I know you’re throat is probably getting dry so give it a rest for a turn and use slam instead!” Cocoa complied easily with this, as her throat was becoming very cold from the multiple ice beams ordered of her, and she this time bounded towards Kakuna, prepping herself to try and make an impact on the opponent with her tail as the weapon.

Vs. Gym Leader Bugsy- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - When Sandy raised her hands up, Bugsy realized he'd said something that had been taken astray. "Oh no, I didn't mean it quite like that. Uh, I meant that we've prepared for battles like these... er..." he tried to explain, looking confused. He hadn't meant to cause her to think that he didn't want her to feel too cocky about walking out with a secure victory.
Tough battles were something he thrived on. If a trainer could walk in and truly prove their merit with a challenge that took plenty from both sides, then he was happy enough with that. Her Marill seemed to be faring well too, even without a beneficial type advantage, and he had to give her credit for not storming the place with a Fire type or Flying type alone. "Give it your all and never give up, Sandy! Kakuna, brace yourself with Iron Defense!" Bugsy cried.
His Pokémon buzzed eagerly and stood stock still for a moment, concentrating hard, before a light silver sheen passed over its body, boosting its defense by two stages. Perhaps it was just a mere coincidence that before Sandy switched to a physical attack that he had his Kakuna use it, though somehow Cocoa doubted it. The Marill hustled forwards, using her tail as a spring to launch herself into the air.
She performed a quick somersault to position her tail just above her head as she looked down at her target. Twisting around slightly, Cocoa flung her tail hard into the rock-hard shell of Kakuna, driving it into the ground several inches before she bounced away. Munchy began to snicker again as he watched Bugsy hurry forwards and yank the pod out of its earthy prison. At least Cocoa had escaped damage this turn, but the steely defense of the shell had really caused her tail to ache... Gym Leader Battle

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ Sandy quietly chuckled at Bugsy’s attempts to explain himself. He didn’t have to, but it seemed like he had thought that she was upset with him or something. She looked down at Munchy, who was focused on Cocoa’s form on the battlefield. Sometimes she had to wonder what was going through his head sometimes.
The Mouse had attacked with slam, but Kakuna quickly countered with Iron defense, which made Cocoa cringe as her tail hit Kakuna’s body. She held it gingerly, shooting small splits of ice at the red spot on her tail. Sandy frowned as she hadn’t expected that to happen.
“Hey are you okay Cocoa?” Cocoa looked back at Sandy, small tear droplets formed at the rims of her eyes, but she wasn’t crying. Instead she straightened up and turned back around, letting Sandy know she was ready to fight again. Sandy raised her hand, aiming at Kakuna. She decided that she would take Bugsy’s sound advice, and attack.
“Alright Cocoa, enough of that break, Ice beam again!” Cocoa nodded and once again charged the beam in the back of her throat, without so much as a complaint.

Vs. Gym Leader Bugsy- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This was easily one of the more exciting battles he'd fought. It had inspired him to keep going rather than just let his Pokémon faint or demolish the challenger's team, like the last few battles he'd had. Bugsy's violet eyes were alive with zest as he pointed his net at Cocoa and called out in a strong voice to his Kakuna. "Alright, enough of the defensive maneuvers, let's go with Poison Sting this time!"
Kakuna bounced on the spot before a small hole opened once more just under its eyes, obscured by a light purple glow. A few seconds later it let out another spray of nettles that turned Cocoa into a pincushion before the aqua mouse could hurriedly brush them out. Bugsy cursed his luck silently; he'd attained neither a critical hit or a poison affliction, which could easily spell doom for his partner.
Sandy's Marill shook her head, clearing the tears that had erupted from the pain before focusing again. She hurried forwards with ice coalescing into a beam of pure, cold energy in her mouth. "Maaa-rilll!" the mouse cried before letting loose her wicked attack. The bolt of blue energy blasted Kakuna off of its figurative feet and into the air again, this time too potent for the pod to shrug off.
The leader knew his partner was down for the count when it landed on its back and didn't move, finally unconscious. The ref blew his whistle and raised the flag that indicated Sandy as the victor for the first round. Bugsy smiled ruefully and recalled Kakuna, swapping the Poké Ball for another. "One down, two to go!" he announced, letting the ball fly.
From it burst yet another cocoon, this one a rather pleasant emerald colour with pale yellow eyes. It looked like it was made of crystal as it landed on the grass, propping itself into a somewhat upright position. "If you feel like switching out Sandy, don't be shy!" Bugsy shouted across the field to his trainer. Her Marill was probably tired and he wouldn't blame her for swapping. It was the opposite, actually; a bright light surrounded the small mouse and blinded them all for several seconds.
When it finally faded, a taller creature had taken Cocoa's place. Floppy, rabbit like ears sprouted from her head; white bubbles decorated her abdomen in various spots above the white of her stomach, and her forepaws and tail had grown a little longer. Cocoa had evolved into Azumarill!
Bugsy's Kakuna was defeated!
Bugsy sent out his Metapod (Level 19)! Would you like to switch Pokémon?
Cocoa grew to Level 20 and gained +2 Happiness! Cocoa would like to learn the move Bubblebeam, but she already knows four moves. Would you like to replace one with Bubblebeam?: Bubble, Slam, Charm, Ice Beam, Bubblebeam
Congratulations! Cocoa evolved into Azumarill!

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ (Dropping Bubble for BubbleBeam) ______________________ As the Kakuna went down and Cocoa started to evolve, Sandy only stood there, stunned. Cocoa took the form of a rabbit now, giving a squeak of her own name, happily appreciating her new form. She looked over at Munchy, who gave her a nod of approval. Next, Sandy let Cocoa bound over to her before catching her in a hug.
“You were amazing Cocoa!” She placed a hand on the Rabbit’s head. “Now we’ll give someone else a shot, right?” Cocoa gave a nod and skipped to stand next to her trainer, while she waited for her next move.
“Alright Munchy, go on.” Munchy nodded and stepped out, the fire ignited in the proper spots, telling Sandy he was ready to go. Sandy smiled and gave him a nod before glancing at Bugsy’s Metapod.
“Alright Munch, kick it off, ember!” Munchy nodded and released scalding embers towards Metapod, willing himself not to be beaten by this small creature.

A bead of sweat ran down Bugsy's face. The gym leader knew Quilavas well. They were a common appearance in his gym, as most trainers thought that a powerful fire type would easily take Bugsy down. They were probably right, bug types had a huge weakness to the hot flames of fire types. But Bugsy never went down without a fight.
“Alright Munch, kick it off, ember!”
Gulp.
The attack shouldn't have been a surprise. Fire pokemon have fire attacks. As Bugsy was lost in his panic, Munchy made his move. The flame pokemon opened his mouth wide. With a burst of light the flames upon his back leaped upwards as if it was trying to reach the sky, and a strong light began to form in the back of Munchy's throat. The light soon condensed and formed into small pieces of ember, hot enough to burn right through the bug type's thick shell. With a battle cry Munchy spat the embers forward at his opponent, eager to end the battle. But as Munchy spat out a few embers Bugsy couldn't help but feel nervous. He wanted to jump in front of the embers. He knew he would be disqualified for the action, but Bugsy simply wanted to spare his pokemon the pain.
"META!" It was too late. The ember consumed the orderless metapod. Bugsy couldn't help but watch in shock as his pokemon began to wobble back and forth. Yet the metapod wouldn't fall. It's gentle green eyes narrowed, it would not let this quilava walk all over it. A small little smirk formed on Bugsy's lips. Maybe, just maybe I can beat this one.. Bugsy thought to himself. "Alright metapod, take that Quilava down with a tackle!" Bugsy ordered, there was still a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Metapod threw himself forward, and with a loud smack the bug type slammed his charred body into Munchy. The attack was a solid hit, yet it barely left a bruise on the fire type. Metapod's lime green eyes widened in horror. It couldn't win this one.

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ Sandy was quite pleased with how fast the battle was shifted in Munchy’s favor, and smiled at the volcano pokemon. Munchy snorted, also pleased with himself as he readied himself for another attack. Sandy looked across from her to Bugsy, who still seemed calm. What did he have in store for her? Cocoa cheered on her teammate from Sandy’s side, and Munchy turned to her with a nod.
“Alright, one more Ember from you Munch!” Sandy called out. She tehn adjusted her blonde locks so they slanted away from her face, allowing her a better view as to what she was doing. She watched as Munchy opened his jowls to release several more searing embers, bound for Metapod.
Cocoa looked on as well, and she hoped her cheering would encourage Munchy. Sandy gave the rabbit a skeptical sideways glance and she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly.

With a fearsome battle cry Munchy spewed for another torrent of hot embers. The shards of fire slammed into Metapod, sending it flying back. With a loud thud the bug type slammed into a ground. For a few intense seconds metapod shook back and forth. It didn't want to give up, it wanted to make Bugsy proud. But in the end it couldn't get back up. The Quilava's ember simply dealt to much damage.
With a tearful sigh Bugsy returned Metapod to it's pokeball. The bug type gym leader looked down at the pokemon and sighed, "You did great Metapod," Bugsy said to the pokeball. The gender confused gym leader turned back to Sandy and said, "Just because you have a fire time doesn't mean I won't go easy on you!"
Bugsy placed metapod's pokeball back on his belt, and plucked another pokeball from it's holster. With a flick of his wrist Bugsy threw the red and white ball in front of him. "Come on out Scyther!"
A flash of red light exploded from the pokeball as it connected to the ground. In a matter of seconds the red light formed into a rather lethal looking Scyther. The large insect was almost as tall as it's trainer. With a sharp twang, Scyther clacked it's large blade arms together. Scyther's blood red eyes turned to it's foe. His eyes narrowed in furry, this was the one that took down his allies, his friends. He would not allow him to win. Munchy backed up a few steps in fear. Sure he had the advantage over the bug type, but it was hard to NOT be terrified by a giant bug with swords for arms. Specially when it was pissed off, and this Scyther didn't look to amused.
Munchy has gained three levels for defeating Metapod! Munchy is now level 18! Bugsy is about to sent out a level 23 Scyther! Will Sandy change pokemon?

Sandy Katayko What would it take for things to be quiet? ------------------------------------------------ Sandy glanced at Munchy, who still seemed eager to fight. Bugsy only had one Pokemon left, so maybe keeping Munchy in the fight wasn’t such a bad idea. She looked over at him again, and nodded.
“Munchy, I’m keeping you in okay? Be careful!” Munchy looked up at the creature that was currently attempting to scare him. It was sort of working…and yet…there wasn’t much to be scared of, as far as he was concerned. Cocoa looked on worriedly, glancing at Sandy as if she had just attempted to kill her.
“What?” Sandy asked the Rabbit, who continued to stare up at her with a disapproving look. She sighed.
“Cocoa, Munchy can handle himself, don’t worry about it.” She murmured to the Azumarill, who was still looking skeptical.
“Don’t believe me huh? Alright Munch, show Cocoa you’re tough and use Ember on Scyther!” Sandy commanded. The Quilava jumped into action instantly, taking in a deep breath of air and releasing the small embers.
