...You're into Pokemon? I ask this because I was speaking to a friend yesterday who bought up the fact he still played Pokemon but said he was embarrassed to admit it. I went ahead and told him I did too as did a load of other people in my age range and even above and he seemed genuinely shocked at this. Almost as if it was some sort of dirty secret to him.
I myself actually really don't care what people think. Sure it's fundamentally aimed towards a younger market but the interesting thing about Pokemon and the games specifically is that these were once aimed at people such as myself when I was a kid and it's just been one of those games you grow up with, enjoy and get a load of fun out of. I remember the adverts they showed for HeartGold & SoulSilver in the UK. Not one kid endorsing it, it were all twenty something young adults. The fact it does allow for in depth aspects such as competitive battling shows its a bit more deeper than most would first think.
And at the end of the day, if you have fun playing something and it doesn't harm anyone else, then why should anyone else care? All the people who are all "HAHA YOU PLAY POKEMON WHY DON'T YOU PLAY CALLADOODY?!" just don't quite seem to get it. I play it for the same reason you play Call of Duty. Simply because you find it enjoyable or must do on some level for playing it so much.

No, I honestly don't give a used fig.
Mind, I'm known among my friends for being a bit off-kilter, so it's not like I've got image to worry about (and people who don't know me get to see me wearing my oddball fashion-irrelevant outfits- MUST HAS MORE POCKETSES- so I have bigger things to consider really). I know several people who play also, and my friends and I will freely talk about it while walking around and riding the bus/train/etc.
Then again, I do live on the San Francisco peninsula which is known for being..... well, the San Francisco peninsula, if I'm going to be honest.
Besides, with the way the game works, it can't possibly have been -only- targetted at preteens- there's too much strategy and planning in a full team once you take into account natures and IVs and EVs and so on and soforth. So I've never seen where there's anything to be embarrassed about.
Now, if someone were to say to me that Monopoly is the most complex board game out there, that would be something for them to be embarrassed about by my standards.
As I always say about my standards, though...
I like cheesetoast.

Lol I have no qualms whatsoever about playing it. My mum's friend from the states is staying with us and I was playing Black earlier, and he asked what I was playing.
"Oh what are you playing there?" "Pokémon."
I'm not ashamed to admit it at all! It's a video game, and just because people might think it's aimed at kids or whatever doesn't mean you can't play and enjoy it. Plus I never was into shooting games other than Halo, so I latched onto the first series that lured me.
I dunno, I just always liked it and don't give a rat's fart if people think I'm weird for it. I have friends who play it so nyeh.

I'm glad you two have both got similar outlooks to it all. I was thinking some more and I mentioned it being targeted mostly at kids. But so are Disney films and yet can't adults also enjoy them too? Ultimately, if something is bloody awesome and of exceptionally high quality, there'll be a wide audience it will reach out to. Pokemon's pretty addicting too so I guess once they lure you in as a kid there's no hope for you. ABANDON ALL HOPE!

I wanted to reply to this yesterday but anyways finally got the chance. I myself do not really care what people think about what I like or do not like and I am not afraid to admit it. In my school most of the other members of Coding Club loved pokemon as well and were not afraid to admit that we did and even though I recently graduated I still am not afraid. Another thing I like that most people my age hate is Alvin and the Chipmunks and I do not care if people think that is weird although part of me liking it is due to my Asperger's Syndrome which is a more moderate case of Autism which is why I tend to like things beneath my age group but I am not ashamed to admit it either. To me you should be able to like what you want without being judged just because you like something most others of your age do not like but just like you guys I am not afraid to admit what I like and do not care if people hate me for it. If they like me for it that is fine you have a right to your own opinion but if you do not keep it to yourself or at least do not talk badly just because they like something.

I fall into the "Don't give a rat's ass" party for most part even though my parents view it as another extension of my 'childish' hobbies (Including the comics and Transformers figurines I collect, never mind that my dad's a Trekkie/ Indiana Fan himself). Unfortunately, everyone around me's kinda trying to play it cool and pretty much whale on it whenever I bring the matter up, being under the impression that Pogeymanz is for kids and that I should play FF or some Square Enix thing/ Kingdom Hearts/ Sephiroth. Kinda like how they say wrestling's for kids and watch it in secret and all. All in all, I don't really bother hiding the fact that I cockfight pixelated monsters. It can be kinda nice showing them the more serious aspects of it through storytelling or art-wise

At my school, pokémon's cool. Am I the only one in this situation? I have had loads and loads of conversations with people about pokémon - people whom I'm not even friends with, too. It's great. I don't care if people know. It's none of their business and if they try and be nasty to me about it, I've always got a trusty .gif to get rid of them.

I Dont tell ppl i like pokemon because i dont want them looking at me thinking im imature Hate to call you out on this one but i'm pretty sure watching Naruto falls under this category too. In fact, more so. Doesn't matter to be honest, if it entertains you at the end of the day who is to say it's childish or whatever. At least you've retained your hold on what makes you happy or smile etc... Oh and with the first statement, there is violence. The anime has a few with some of the more violent ones scrapped from airing whereas the manga is just... I don't even, what?! In terms of the games, there is a lot of violence there but its just subtly hinted at so your mind can go nuts on interpreting it how you want. I think that's why I like it so much, you yourself can imagine what's there and what isn't. Take Slowpoke Well for example... Yeesh. Sure is rainbows and candyfloss down here with all these cut off tails and blood pouring out into the water.

I'm kinda in the middle. I don't care that people I'm close to know about it, since they are unlikely to harm with it. I don't tell it to everyone, but honestly, not everyone needs to know I still like them.
I guess it's because it was meant as a children's game. Not that I care that much ... Every fantasy/nature/animal lover can enjoy them I think. I just don't want to be laughed at for liking it. I believe everyone should be allowed to say it's option, but only in an ideal world would you never get laughed at for it.
My best friend and my boyfriend tell me to shut up about Pokémon every now and then. They don't mind, especially my boyfriend. He still loves the games but he's just not the type to RP on a site like this.

I definitely don't care. I love Pokémon, and I have since before it was even released in Japan, when I started catching wind about it. I watched the animé every day it was on for a couple of years (eventually wasn't able to), and it's always been a thing I've enjoyed. I mix it up, of course. I like Firefly and Yoshi and all kinds of things from A to Zombie. But Pokémon is something I enjoy, and I don't care if people know it. I don't expect my friends to all enjoy it as well, but if someone's going to make fun of me for liking Pokémon, then they're not someone I need to spend time with.
I figure, I'm 25 years old. I'm most definitely an adult at this point, and if something interests me, what do I care what other people think? *shrug*
