Allowing the automatic sliding doors of the Pokemon Centre to whisk open before him, Joey strolled out with a yawn and a stretch as he tried to bring himself awake. " Ahhhhhhhhh... What a comfortable night's sleep. Sure beats sleeping under trees and in the front of shop doors. Gonna have to think about sneaking into Centres more often than not." Waiting outside, Joey looked around as he decided what would be best as he began murmuring to himself. " From the conversations that were being had last night in the P.C., it seems the Rockets are definitely bunkered down in that well." Shifting his eyes in the opposite direction to the West of town, Joey then considered another alternative. " I did hear there was a gym in this cosy little town." Rubbing the stubble on his chin, Joey was really torn. " On one hand I could go and test myself in the gym and make sure i'm up to scratch for these Rockets but the thought of letting them get away with stuff while i'm doing some stupid test makes the blood boil a bit." Letting out a shrug, Joey really didn't know what to do. " If the Rockets are operating around here this gym has to be a good benchmark for their skill. Right, gym time it is." Thrusting a clenched fist forward decidedly, Joey began manoeuvring about the place. It wasn't too hard considering. Azalea was hardly a sprawling metropolis and the gym did stick out like a sore thumb with how big it was. As he gazed up at the entrance before going in, a sign stole his attention. " Lessee here..." Joey flicked his eyes over the words. ' Azalea Town Gym. Leader: Bugsy - The Walking Bug Pokémon Encyclopedia.' Scratching the back of his neck Joey shrugged. " Cute I guess." Looking back at the entrance doors he breathed a deep sigh and nodded. " C'mon Jimmy Jam Joe, you can do this. Just go in there, kick their ass and then go and thwart them Rockets. If you can beat this leader you can wipe out anything the mobsters can throw at ya." He put a boot forward and the door opened automatically. As he entered inside, it was almost like stepping into Azalea's forest once again. There were trees as far as the eye could see around the side of the building walls. A small path lead him forward and as he got closer, there was a huge clearing with a round shaped space. Drawn along the space were markings akin to that of a Pokeball. " Yup, this is definitely the place." He moved on forward and made himself over to what he believed to be the challenger space. " Interesting looking logo." His eyes had affixed themselves to the giant ladybug looking image on the back end of the wall. " Anybody home? I've come to challenge you!" Joey yelled out but was unsure as to where everyone was.

The inside of the Gym was matched with it's outer appearance which seemed like that of a greenhouse, the interior practically being as dense as the forest which surrounded Azalea in a safe embrace. A large space in the center of the building seemed to act as the stadium floor where battlers and the Gym Leader would test their skills for the Hive Badge.
A low row of thin bricks separated the stadium floor with the wildlife patches that sat around the edge of the building. Cries, chirps and beating wings from different types of bug pokemon who lived within the walls were the only thing that could be heard. The sweet scent of honey which was smothered on the trunk of trees being the strong scent which circulated through the air.
Emerged within the trees on the opposite side of the Gym floor was the young purple haired lad who pretty much own the building. Though at first glance, he probably didn't seem like a boy. His messy violet coloured hair sat comfortably on his shoulders, complimenting his large and energetic eyes which just beamed with excitement at the mere sight of the bugs which surrounded him.
Placing down his trusty bug net, Bugsy reached down for a bucket which held a yellow substance and began to spread it along a tree. Many a Pokemon fluttering from their hiding place to take a slurp at the delicacy that was honey. A rather childish laugh escaped his lips at the sight, "That's right guys, all of you dig in and enjoy yourself!" Wearing an incredibly gentle grin across his face, Bugsy became a little surprised as a rather masculine voice echoed throughout the warm greenhouse like building, disturbing the Pokemon from their meal time.
Lifting his net, Bugsy skipped out from the trees and waved a hand to his challenger, making his way towards his own placed on the opposite side of the stadium floor. "Welcome challenger! I am the Gym Leader here. People know me as Bugsy, the bug extraordinaire! I've put my heart and soul into researching bug types and even gone as far as to discover my very own move." Carefully choosing a Pokeball from the three which sat on his belt, he was more than ready to begin the battle.
The delinquent appearance of Joe making the young boy feel that this one might be quite the challenge or that he wasn't taking the bug leader seriously. Whichever answer, he wasn't going to hold back. "Let's get right down to business! Kakuna!" Bugsy cheered out with a beaming grin across his face, looking mighty pleased at his first choice of Pokemon being the golden encased cocoon known as Kakuna.
Gym Leader Bugsy has accepted your challenge!

Jumping out of his skin slightly as the young kid seemed to appear out of nowhere, it took him a few seconds to calm down. "Huh? So you're Bugsy right?" Scratching the stubble on his chin with a rather intrigued look in his eyes, the thief continued. "Kinda young for a gym leader ain'tcha? Was expecting someone... Well... Older. Then again, when little kids can beat up elderly folk in a game of Pokemon not that much surprises me anymore, heh." Realising that this youth definitely appeared to be what the sign claimed him to be on the outside of the building, Joey was finding his head full of puzzling questions but with only one being the heaviest on his mind. "I've never really seen a Bug Pokemon put up much of a fight, how is this going to work?" Looking at his opponent as they sent forth their battler, Joey raised an eyebrow.
"A KAKUNA?!" Now scratching the back of his head ever more puzzled, Joey was sure he was missing something. "So err... Shouldn't you have evolved that thing by now?" Giving a nonchalant shrug as he lowered his gaze to the floor and adjusted the belt on his jeans, Joey was beginning to decide his own choice. "Whatever this kid's doin' he must have some kinda plan. I gotta assume he's kept it in a cocoon on purpose." Taking out all of his Pokeballs, Joey sent forth each and everyone of his Pokemon behind him so that he could look at them all before the challenge.
"Listen up gang! We're facing a gym leader and y'know what that means? Blood, sweat an' tears. I trained my ass with you guys last night so let's put all that to good use, eh?" His group were standing around casually as they took in the sight of the building. With Joey carefully considering them all, he came to a good enough conclusion. "Turncoat! You're up big guy." He stood to the side as the colossal tyrant moved forward from where he was standing onto the battlefield. With every step causing a small quake around the vicinity of its feet, Joey had good faith in his partner.
Moving into view of Bugsy, Joey yelled out. "Name's Joey! I'd go into who I am an' all that but that's probably not a good idea." Laughing nervously, he eventually brushed it off and became utterly serious. This was a rare emotion for Joey to show, after all, the thief usually grinned and laughed off all of his troubles but in this gym challenge today, he knew what was at stake. He needed to prove to himself he was ready to storm Slowpoke Well. Calling out to his indomitable Nidoking, Joey's voice was filled with an air of calmed confidence. "Turncoat, we trained together that new move of yer's right? Seein' as you're so big let's use it to our advantage! Bulldoze your opponent!"
Turncoat let out a mighty roar to signify its readiness for battle. The king was back in business and it was time to show off its new found power it had attained. It had been taught by Joey an incredible move called Bulldoze and it was eager to test it out. Lifting its leg up high, it stomped it down on the ground several times sending quakes and shockwaves over to where the Kakuna stood perfectly still. Although the bulldozing attack was aimed elsewhere, Joey felt himself struggle to keep balance. "Woahwoahwoaaaaah! Ease up bud!" The attack would need some fine tuning but for now it at least worked ok.

Bugsy's eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Turncoat who stomped forwards onto the battle arena. It wasn't that this young bug collector hadn't seen a Nidoking before, in all honesty he had met one or two Pokemon which came across as more intimidating but the sheer size of this particular one was phanominal! The armour plated creatures usually only came to waist height, oddly, but this one was scaling even higher than Joe himself.
"W-Woah! What an impressive Pokemon!" his voice staggered in surprise, the Kakuna who stood in and was ready to battle seemingly having second thoughts on facing this mamouth beast. With a chuckle, Bugsy tapped the end of his bug catching net down on the ground, "No need to feel discouraged, Kakuna! Just give it your all!" Nodding mutely, the Kakuna made one last shiver before turning to face it's opponent, staring it's black beady eyes to the beast which stood before it.
Something else which Bugsy had noticed, which didn't come as uncommon to him, was the hint of uncertainty which had crossed Joe's face upon seeing his choice of Pokemon. He was even beginning to question as to why it was still a cocoon and not in it's final form. "Weither is be a mere worm, cocoon or a beautiful butterfly. A bug in any form is both useful, intriguing and precious to me. Please do not underestimate them." Bugsy's once cheerful exterior had fallen a little more serious as Joe ordered a move. Turncoat had already out done him in terms of speed this round, forcing Bugsy to think up a tactic, stat.
The rapid stomping had caused a huge uproar within the Gym walls, disturbing the sleeping and feeding time from the bug who lived within the surrounding trees. Horrified chirped ruslted out from the branches, cocoons and spider like Pokemon falling from the branches and just barely hanging on fore dear life with their string shots. The little Kakuna who was sitting in the middle of it all was being tossed about furiously. Having no arms or legs made it incredibly difficult to regain it's balance and had no choice but to follow the flow of the attack.
Examining Kakuna from a distance and noticing she had taken quite the blow, a rise in defence was probably the first thing that was in order. "Alright Kakuna, let's kick things up a notch with Iron Defence!" All of a sudden, the Kakuna became perfectly still. Since Turncoat had stopped his rampage, the entire Gym had fallen silent only to hold the noise of subtle cracks. The noise eminated from the direction of Kakuna, forming a new shell to encase it's delicate body.

Appreciating Turncoat's size himself, Joey went into the mysterious change in the Pokemon's height. "I've had this fella since he was a tiny Nidoran. Guess all that grub he ate must've fuelled his growth spurt?" With a shrug, Joey moved away from the subject. He had no real idea as to the Pokemon's radical change in height but it didn't matter too much to him. At the end of the day, Turncoat was still Turncoat and nothing would change that. The same sentiments running through Joe's mind seemed reflective of what Bugsy had mentioned about his choice in Pokemon. "See? We're both true connoisseurs it seems. I gotta say you got some balls for using a Kakuna in battle." Despite the biker's praise, he was still unsure as to what it could really do in battle. After all, it was practically immobile and had little to attack with.
As the move Iron Defence was ordered, Joey gasped out in surprise as he saw the cocoon forge itself an incredible new set of outer armour. "Woahoah! The gleam to that Pokemon's body tells me all I need to know. I doubt much can scrape through that." Stressing his brain, Joey was uncertain if even Turncoat's horn could penetrate through how impenetrable the shell now looked. "I see your strategy. Make yourself untouchable and then whittle 'em down bit by bit." Considering this was a Bug typed gym, the surprise wasn't too great for the thief. It was like bug bites in reality, they were small, annoying and persistent.
"I think I might just have to test out how strong yer Pokemon's armour is!" Looking to Turncoat, Joey commanded his move, still containing an air of confidence. If anything, the emotion now on the male's mind was if that fearsome horn of his Nidoking could overcome the new steel like defences. "You've got a pretty large horn, right? Let's put it to good use! Ram it with Horn Attack!" Turncoat's large toothy grin smiled as it received the order. Stamping its feet and loosening its arms about, the colossal Nidoking was raring itself up. A terrifying roar was echoed out and the kingly Pokemon made its valiant charge forward, its head lowered so that the full brunt of the horn would ram into the foe.

Due to the previous attack with Turncoat rampaging all over the place, the Kakuna had found it greatly difficult to regain her balance fully and with the Nidoking charging towards her at full speed once again, there was no way she had the time to attempt a dodge. Even Bugsy himself was surprised by the speed of the mighty brute but what was most important right now was his Kakuna to withstand the upcoming hit and with little room to maneuver there was only one thing left to do, "Stand your ground, Kakuna!"
Hearing her master's voice, the Kakuna braced herself for the upcoming impact, dust rising from the Gym floor to block the view from both trainers as the two collided. The sound of coughing from Bugsy's end could be heard by Joe, the young leader beginning to wave his bug net about to try and part the dust cloud which was floating through his gym. It eventually dispersed to show an amazing sight!
The tiny Kakuna had grinded to a halt on the floor, her super strong shell giving Turncoat's horn a run for his money, sweat drops and a look of tension spread across his face as he tried to fling the bug into the air. The Kakuna's eyes glimmered with determination however and didn't seem like one to be taken down so easily. Chuckling at this sight, Bugsy clapped his hands together proudly, "Bugs hold so much potential and have such hidden strength! Great job Kakuna!"
Noticing that the golden cocoon probably couldn't hold off for too much longer, Bugsy decided it was the right time to step in. The huge Nidoking looked as well built as a brick wall so the best thing he could do would be to slowly whittle his health down. "Alright, shake it off and attack with Bug Bite!" Upon hearing these words, the Kakuna took a graceful hop backwards, Turncoat being completely caught off guard and falling heavily to the floor with an almighty slam.
With her opponent now safe in one place, the Kakuna hopped a few paces forward and lunged towards the beast. Whilst Joe couldn't quite see the Kakuna due to Turncoat's huge body, the gut wrenching sounds of cracking and tearing of who knows what could be heard. Bugsy had turned away for a short moment, subtly holding a hand near his face, the expression which he wore only suggesting how nasty it was to see the Kakuna attempt to rip off Nidoking's armour plating.

Joey suddenly had the most hesitant of looks spread over his face in a matter of seconds, his suspicions were confirmed as he saw how oddly Turncoat was acting. This wasn't the fighting spirit of a merciless beastly king. "Wait, I just worked something out... Your Kakuna is female?!" Looking to Turncoat, Joey had wished he had never blurted that fact out. He had thought the tyrant was fighting a bit off and not putting his heart into it and realised the Pokemon's issue with fighting female Pokemon was coming into play due to its ability that was Rivarly. "Uh oh... Don't worry big guy! Just keep going at it." Now having its beliefs confirmed, Turncoat's tyrannical appearance now seemed a lot more tame. It looked to the Kakuna embarrassedly and nervously twiddled its thumbs together apologetically for being so brutish around it. Joey rubbed his forehead and let out a sigh. "So much for your rep as a ruthless king of destruction and chaos. If Bellatrix could see you now."
Realising that Turncoat's impressive horn had finally found a match with the Pokemon's steel like armour, Joey crackled his knuckles as he did what he could to formulate a plan as quick as possible. "Argh... If a single hit gets deflected like that, we're in for trouble. Wait...! That could work!" Pointing at the Kakuna, the rough looking biker had decided on his move. Scratching the wild stubble on his face he grinned at his new line of attack. "Turncoat! Shake things up! If we can let out a flurry of blows, then the Kakuna might let slip its weak point. Assault it with Fury Attack!" Turncoat roared out once more, causing the roar to echo around the entire stadium. Had it not been for the trees to subdue the reverberation of the yell, it would have been a lot more shaking. Watching as Turncoat marched forward, he was eager to see Fury Attack in action.

The sudden odd behaviour of Turncoat had given Bugsy a look of incredible intrigue, placing a hand on his chin as he pondered to himself, wondering why such a huge creature was suddenly acting so odd. It was only until Joe mentioned something about his Kakuna being female that two and two were placed together.
Well, this just made things even more fortunate for the young Gym Leader. Although they might not have looked it, all of his Pokemon were female, something which was usual unexpected and came as a surprise to most trainer who came to challenge him. Perhaps such strangely shaped bugs didn't come across as female to them.
Looking down to his Kakuna, the shelled creature was also looking rather confused in her own way, completely terrified by the blush which had spread across the tyrant's face. "Now this is starting to become an interesting battle! Who would've thought such a big brute would be affected by something simple like gender!" With a grin, the young bug catcher gave a stern nod to his Pokemon, "Dont mind me but I'll think I'll be taking advantage of this."
It wasn't just Bugsy who seemed to be conjuring up a plan in the back of his mind due to the sudden expression across Joe's face. The biker seemed to have something planned and it wasn't likely to be anything friendly. Kakuna was just barely hanging on as it was, he wasn't going to deny it, but if she could just hold out for a little longer so he could whittle this thing's health down a little more it would help for the future. The move Fury Attack was practically what it said on the tin but with this Nidoking being a little awkward around females it probably wouldn't end up being as furious as it made out. "Move with it, Kakuna!"
Move with it, he says? Well that was easy for a mere human to say, someone who wasn't being faced with a rampaging horn trying to be rammed in his face. With a sigh, all the Kakuna could do was watch carefully with her pitch black eyes, the floor beginning to shake rapidly as the giant began his charge once more. As he approached close enough, Turncoat lowered his horn and began thrusting it in all directions in hope to pierce the newly formed steel shell of the Kakuna.
Though with amazing speed and precision, it looked as if the embarrassed male wasn't quite aiming properly. Dodging thrust after thrust perfectly, the Kakuna was hopping backwards across the stadium floor, trying it's best not to get pierce but with all the rubble, rocks and cracks formed across the floor due to Turncoat's earlier Bulldoze, the poor cocoon tripped backwards and was left completely defenceless. She still had a thick shell layer to protect her more fragile body, but the sharp pokes by the Nidoking's horn was beginning to test her limits.
After the third strike, Kakuna had enough. With a swift roll to the side, Turncoat rammed his horn straight into the ground below making himself temporarily stuck. With no better moment, the Kakuna lunged towards Turncoat's leg and repeated her Bug Bite move, the large beast crying out in agony over the sharp pains it was recieving.

After seeing the furry of Turncoat's attack, Joey nodded in acknowledgement of what the attack was capable of. "Seeing as i've kept this bug on its... Toes, it seems like we've been able to demonstrate what he can really do." Thinking over his other options, Joe was unsure of what to do next. Fury Attack had a good chance of missing spectacularly and Horn Attack while powerful didn't seem able to dent through its armour. Double Kick was a possibility but the biker wasn't too foolish to use that on a bug. Ultimately there was only one move worth doing. Holding a hand out to his mouth, Joey yelled out an order to the huge Nidoking. "Turncoat! Stamp up a Bulldoze and let's keep this thing guessing." Turncoat grunted and faced back at the Kakuna.
It had a truly hard time figuring out that it was female but the pheromones were all that he needed to realise he was facing the unmistakeable scent of a female. Looking around nervously, the big brute was obviously feeling restrained. It began to stamp down its feet in order to send some shockwaves at it. Joey had prepared himself this time however and tried to remain as still as possible. "I sure as hell ain't doing this inside a cave!" True enough, if he attempted to, the whole structure would likely topple down upon them. "Jeez Bugsy, you've got one defensive beast there. Makes me wonder what else you have." At this rate, Joe was under the impression a Caterpie and a Ledyba might very well be the next potential combatants.

The sound of Joe ordering the repeated move of Bulldoze made it fairly clear to Bugsy that the end was near for his Kakuna. The little creature had done well to stand up to such a brute for so long and she was fairly good as acting like a distraction whilst he got to grips with how the opponent acted and most of the time she was alright with it. In fact, the cocoon had turned a little on the spot, glancing to her trainer from the corner of her eye and nodding her head gently.
As the armoured beast began to hammer his feet sharply across the gym floor, Bugsy was able to steady himself with his bug catching net but for Kakuna it was a different story. Not having as much energy to keep herself upright, the little cocoon was tossed about in many different directions, rolling about on the dusting ground until eventually she fell unconscious.

Bugsy had swiftly prepared the Pokeball in which to return his injured Kakuna at the sight of her tumbling to the ground lifelessly. The steel shelled cocoon had lasted for a good enough time for the purple haired Gym Leader to get a feeling of the opponent he was facing and now it was time to get a little more serious. Joe's Nidoking was proving to be incredibly tough so it was a little worrying to think what else was lingering on his belt.
A beam of red light was quick enough to draw Kakuna back to safety, clicking her back into the confides of the Pokeball which was placed back into Bugsy's overall pockets, "You did great, Kakuna.." he mumbled to himself quietly, a gentle smile etched across his face. "I have the perfect 'mon to take over from all your hard work aswell." Lifting his head back up, Bugsy had already reached into his pocket for a replacement.
With a sharp toss of his wrist, the ball flew from his fingertips and tapped gently onto the floor, bursting with open with life at the feeling of colliding with the ground. The light zapped in multiple angles, eventually forming a rather tall shape which possessed razor like arms and wings stitched to it's back. Slashing it's claws diagonally to rid the light, a rather threatening cry flowing between the Scyther's jaws. "Heh heh, you are more than welcome to swap out a Pokemon to replace Nidoking, if you so wish."
Gym Leader Bugsy will be sending out Scyther (Level 24 ) to battle. Would Joe like to switch Pokemon?

Joey's eyes honed in on the new Pokemon that had been sent forth. As opposed to a caterpillar or a spider, the gym leader had only revealed his most powerful Pokemon at his disposal. This thing looked like a mixture between a praying mantis and an emerald clad grim reaper with the long scythes it had for arms. Feeling the tension of the situation becoming increasingly heightened, he began formulating all sorts of plans in his mind. "Sheesh, should've known this wouldn't be a cakewalk. I guess this is all part of your grand plan. Lure 'em into a false sense of security with your cocoon Pokemon and then drop this a-bomb on them."Cracking his knuckles while deep in thought, Joey realised Turncoat would have some difficulty standing up to the Scyther.
"Yo, Turncoat, back down for now. I think I shall take up the kid's offer and substitute you with someone else." Turncoat let out a relieved sigh as if his senses weren't failing him, the kingly beast was sure that Scyther was female too. Quaking his way back to behind the battlefield lines, everyone seemed to shake subtly. "Okay gang, now things are really going to get tough. Back in Fuschia my ma worked in the Safari Zone. She used to come home with tales about how savage these Pokemon were. They're nothing to take too lightly." Turning his head slowly to gaze at the Pokemon's fearsome appearance, Joey was taking things very seriously.
With one last look at his gang, Joey had made his choice. "Meowth!" The calling out of his Pokemon's name had caused the feline to almost jump out of his skin from the shock. This was one battle the naughty little cat didn't want to get in on and the sentiment was smeared all over its face. Rolling his eyes, Joey persuaded his Pokemon further. "Meowth, you got to have faith in me ok? Trust me on this one. I've not suddenly lost every ounce of sense. I have a good feeling we can make something of this..." His cat let out an unsure meow but nevertheless, tempered by its partner's words, the cat slowly walked forward holding a small shred of courage.
As it moved to its assigned spot on the battlefield, the moggy lifted up its forepaws and unsheathed its long claws so that they glinted in the light. Ultimately, a Meowth was never going to instil fear and panic in the heart of an opponent but that didn't mean Joe's Meowth wasn't going to give it everything it had. It did beg the question as to whether or not Joey was contradicting what he mentioned earlier and was taking these beasts lightly. With Joey and his Pokemon looking over to Bugsy, he let a small grin crop over his face. "Heh, this will be interesting." Launching a pointed finger forward, Joey passionately ordered the opening attack for the next round. "Meowth! Use your speed and land a Fake Out!" As he finished, Joey watched as his Pokemon ran off into action. "This had better work. I got confidence in my buddy though. Should do, it's pretty much Thieving 101. Hit 'em so fast they don't know what the hell's happening."

Bugsy used his hand to flip the strands of purple hair which covered his eyes away from his face, blinking at the beige feline which was treading carefully onto the gym floor. It was unusual for a trainer to stick such a small cat into battle against a practically scythe wielding death machine known as Scyther. Even propping his bug net along the floor, the purple haired trainer had to rub his eyes in disbelief, just incase his mind was playing some sort of trick. But no matter how he looked at it, a Meowth was indeed stepping forward.
"Interesting choice there, challenger! But I wonder if your Meowth can last against my Scyther's quick hits." Though it was just after the young gym leader had spoke these words that he figured out Joe's plan. The confidence in the biker's voice was more than enough to let Bugsy know that he knew fully well what he was up against and what he was doing, sending such a small Pokemon wasn't that of a cocky suggestion but more of a strategic one.
Being fast on his little beige paws, the Scyther merely stood in the same spot, making it an incredibly easy target to hit. This one was obviously proud of her strength and knew in the back of her mind that this irritating feline was little of a challenge. Reopening her eyes after a moment of pondering, the giant bug felt her heart leaping up into her thought at the sudden approach by the Meowth. With a somewhat pathetic scratch attack, the surprise factor is what shook Scyther up the most. Her eyes widened in horror as she stared to the floor. "Gah! Get a hold of yourself, Scyther!" Bugsy spoke in a whining voice, hoping this bad start wouldn't lead to a bad end.

Joey was clutching onto his sides as he laughed raucously at the tried and tested Fake Out working its magic as always. "Bwahahahaha! I'm glad that worked alright. We'd be a bit stumped if it hadn't." He looked at the gleaming scythes for arms the Pokemon boasted. Stumped like a wooden tree indeed if those were to come into contact. "Don't worry kid, that attacks only good for once use." Smiling to himself happily, Joey already knew what the attack of his would be. Ever since he saw the Scyther put into battle he noticed something off about it. There seemed to be a small little item attached to it. He couldn't really get a clear shot as it was too far off in the distance but it looked round and just ripe for the taking.
"Much as I hate doing this in such an official place like this... The next move hasn't technically been banned. All a-okayed by the official League rules." With a shrug, it was time to launch the next attack. "Meowth buddy! You were born for one thing and one thing only, let's show Bugsy and his lot your special talents!" The Meowth let out a loud purr as it eyed the Scyther curiously. Whether or not curiosity killed the cat would have yet to be seen but for now, Joe's feline seemed perfectly content glancing its eye over it. Truth be told, like its master, Meowth had also spotted the precious little item that was behind held by it. The temptation to just run up there and swipe it away was proving all too much to handle. And then the blessed words were called out.
"Meowth! It's time for your speciality! Speed towards the beast and steal whatever it's holding. Let's show 'em how we roll! If it ain't bolted down, it's ours!" Meowth let out a loud high pitched growl and with that sped off to greet the emerald praying mantis. This was going to be a risky manoeuvre. "I sure hope i've trained that kitty cat enough... He's small and hardly a bastion of defences. If he doesn't act scrappy and pull himself together those scythes are gonna hurt..." His concern was written all over his face and demonstrated just how high risk of a gamble this was. Getting ever closer, Joey inched closer and observed the battlefield with baited breath.

Meowth licked his lips with a continued purr, eyeing the object held by his much larger, much greener adversary. This would be tricky, he knew, trying to wrest that prize from the dangerous bug-type pokemon- he’d have to figure- ”Quick Attack!”Breaking off his thought as the scyther recieved her command, the feline immediately began to move, causing Scyther’s initial dash- so unbelievably fast that she seemed to disappear for an instant- to miss as the bug, now wary, didn’t change course to match. Dancing aside, the agile cat’s feet made nary a sound on the floor of the gym, his face still mostly hidden behind what appeared to be a blank white bandit mask. Narrowing her eyes as she shifted on her feet, Scyther watched Meowth move- if he continued on his course, then he’d be about to land.... there! Again, the blade-armed bug darted with blistering speed- and again, the meowth simply wasn’t there, his evasion jinking -just- as he was making to bounce another short hop in the same direction. The agile cat turned slightly to look directly at the scyther, still balanced lightly on the toes of one hindpaw. His eyes curved upwards in a smarmy expression that caused Scyther to grit her mandibles, a faint chirruping sound as her toes dug ever so slightly into the floor for anchoring. This cat, she realized, was no common brawler. He knew his moves, he shifted and wove with precision- Like herself, this meowth was a fighter. Liker herself, this meowth was a technician. Bladed arms scraped against each other with a dry, husky sound that echoed a wood lathe, and then the scyther wove her arms about her body in a complex gesture. Green and white flicked this way and that, and she stopped in a half-crouch, one foot forwards and the matching scythe low, its opposite raised overhead with the blade up in a fighting pose. Unseen grin only broadening, Meowth snickered softly and bounced like a boxer, feet light and swift on the floor. Just as quickly as his hind paws moved, his forepaws batted at the air- playfully at first, then with a slight whistling as his shorter but equally sharp claws carved through the gas surrounding in flickering swats and jabs. Fur blurred as he let out a barrage of strikes into nothing- and then his arms settled, though his feet kept moving, constantly switching with was before, and which was away from his opponent. Bugsy blinked blankly as he watched the two make brief demonstrations, and the air stilled- it was almost like watching one of those old karate movies with the Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan facing off. He didn’t dare breathe even a whisper in objection, tension building in the air. Scyther dipped lower into her stance slowly..... slowly. Meowth kept bouncing, moving slightly from side to side. Left-right-left-right.... Lower.... Left-right-left-right... Lower..... Left-right-left-right.... Just as it seemed the two had perhaps reached a stalemate, there was a sudden burst of movement. Scythers blades lashed out in a blurred flurry, Meowth matching each thrust or slash with a swat that deflected the move away, parrying blow-by-blow- and then Scyther vanished again, reappearing in practically the same instant, feet digging into the dirt floor as she skidded to a halt over several meters facing back the way she’d come. Meowth twirled midair, landing on one hindpaw with an easy bounce- one whose direction abruptly changed just as Scyther vanished again, taking him cleanly out of her path as she skidded past the cartwheeling feline once more, now behind him. Straining a bit, the larger bug pokemon managed to launch again before coming to a complete halt- but in the same instant a gleam shone from Meowth’s eye and his tail whipped about in midair, causing him to spin on his long axis- The impact was audible as a dull ‘thock’, Meowth sent flying across the battle area as where he’d been midair and spinning there was suddenly Scyther, blades swung out behind herself and her entire torso leaned forwards. A thin arc of blood trailed the cat, but what initially appeared to be a terrible injury proved far less than such moments later as he rolled midair, three paws touching down as he slid a s hort distance, kicking up small puffs of dirt and dust. Scyther drew herself up to her full height, and whipped her scythes about once more, dropping into her stance. Meowth, however, rose to his feet and held out one forepaw, the other gently daubing at a thin line of blood and a shallow gash on his left shoulder. There, dangling from his left paw, was Scyther’s sitrus berry. The bug’s eyes widened, then narrowed in aggravation as Meowth let out a lazy, teasing ”Miaaaaaou....” and then popped the berry into his mouth, carefully tucking it into his cheek. Challenge issued, he began to bounce on his paws again, giving the air a few shadow strikes- though his left forepaw was a touch slower this time.
((Original damage calculation seems to have been made without Meowth’s Technician ability applied- I’ve modified the damage appropriately. If this should not have been done, let me know and I’ll change it the other way. Added note 8/22/11- as I half-expected, there are other reasons for this disparity. I have now edited the HP to take into account the defensive EVs Morri had been applying both in terms of prior damage done and in terms of damage done during this post.))
--[TECHNICAL EXPERTISE!]-- | Scyther Lvl 24 Health; 68% (51/75) Status; When did you-? Why youuu.....
|
--[BOXER VERSUS SWORDSWOMAN?]-- | Meowth Lvl 28 Health; 67% (46/69) Status; Float like a Butterfree, lady. And thanks for the snack.

((If this is totally out of character for Meowth, please let me know. I just saw that they were both 'Technician' pokemon and had to play it up. It was begging me to.))

Having watching without blinking, Joey had felt himself lost in the flurry of blows of last round's skirmish with the opponent. Just as Joey had underestimated Bugsy's Kakuna, it seemed the same could be said of Joe's Meowth. Such a small little kitten of a cat didn't pose too much of a threat immediately but he was a skilled melee fighter all the same. Folding his arms partially with one raised to scratch the short, rough stubble apparent on his chin, the cockiest of grins had made itself suitably at home on the thief's face. It appeared that Operation Shutdown had been successful. Nursing a small wound, he was surprised just how much fight his Pokemon had left in him. Things had definitely worked out to their advantage for the time being.
Clearing his throat, Joey gestured his arms to the side and shook his head reluctantly. "Sorry 'bout that. I know what you gym leader types are like. Got more aces up your sleeves than a card dispenser." Looking at the robbed Scyther, Joe sighed a little, almost feeling regretful of what he had done. "I'd have been well and truly buggered if I had fallen into the trap of thinking I had beat your Pokemon and then in a cinch, it restores life to itself." Flashing another grin, Joey's mind was again filled with all sorts of scenarios in his mind. Trying to tailor a perfect strategy was harder than it looked. "I may look like some hooligan biker but I have some smarts too." Letting out a cheerful laugh he shrugged. "I also kinda overheard from some down on their luck trainers in the Pokemon Centre I was staying at last night. Pays to be informed, eh?"
Fondly looking to his Pokemon, Joey clapped his hands together praisingly. "You did great mate. I think you've safely earnt a bit of rest for the time bein'. C'mon back over here." Meowth lowered his guard and transported himself to where the rest of Joey's group was waiting. For now, the thief had to work out who would stand in to take care of the green menace. Joey had sneakily got a couple of good shots in but he had yet to truly see it do what it did best. That was, if the fearsome reputation was true. Deliberating over what would work best, he turned and looked over his group. Turncoat was still nursing some wounds from the battle with the Kakuna and Meowth wasn't really in a much better state either.
Hoodlum was laying on the floor and bopping his head as he stared off into space and the last thing Joey wanted at this moment in time was a noisy racket with the Pokemon's ability to talk. Vlad however seemed wholly distracted and seemed to be posing in various stances as if trying to make itself look impressive for a certain someone. "Pft, for Carmilla no less." Moving on, the last remaining two were standing before him. Or more accurately floating in Koffing's case. "Don't worry, you'll get your fill of the battle but..." Turning to Dante the Gastly, Joey raised an eyebrow. He had thought he had heard a low sounding cackle throughout the beginning rounds against Scyther but now he had found the source, it sounded even louder.
Dante had been cackling to himself so much, tears were visibly streaming from his ethereal pair of eyes. "You find this Scyther a joke or somethin'?" Dante's grin grew in size and the Pokemon nodded in response. "Alrighty then, you're up and you best not goof up y'hear?" Dante rolled his eyes and floated over to the battle seat. "Even if he does goof up, that ghoul has one helluva fiendish side to him... Let's see how this goes." Assuming his position as well, Joey was more than ready to make his order. "Dante! If you're ready to stop fooling around like a clown, proceed with Confuse Ray!"
