Sandy sat in the living room of her family’s vacation house, trying her best to wrap the gifts she had purchased. Some of them had been for her family, and some for her friends. A lot were for friends she had met along her travels. She brought them simple things, since she didn’t really know what some of them liked, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to give it to them over the holidays, but she’d hopefully run into them at some point of the year, so she’d give it to them then.
Her Grandfather had given her something she thought would make a perfect gift for someone she had met in Azalea a while back, and that was Tanya. They only met once or twice, the second time briefly at a party the year before, but they had become friends after having to fight in order to save a strange Pokémon from some punk. She lifted a rather light, metallic feather that rested on a light chain. It was long, and a Skarmory feather. Her Grandpa had a Skarmory, and often, it would shed a few of its feathers. She knew Tanya had a Skarmory of her own, Starscream. Though, she had been told males didn’t shed feathers as often as females.
“I think that’ll be fine for her, have to love it when Grandpa sends me these kinds of things, huh Jax?” The Pachirisu had been sitting on the couch beside her, since Victoria had glued herself to the girl’s other side. Jax gave a light nod, watching the feather’s sheen as Sandy placed it back in its case.
“Glamew….” Victoria mewed sleepily as Sandy rose from her spot on the couch. The Glameow jumped from her place after stretching and followed Sandy onto the porch. It was elevated, but Sandy couldn’t see much through the thick over cover of Ilex forest. She looked down at Victoria as she hopped up onto the railing.
“Spending Christmas with Mac and Lenny won’t be that bad.” She commented, patting the cat on the head gently. Victoria purred, seemingly in agreement. Sandy kind of wished she could have made it back to New Bark Town, but she didn’t want to chance a blizzard or something.

When Tanya woke up this morning, greeted by a solid-gray sky, she paid it no second thought. With the fall season slowly giving way to winter, the chance of snow arriving early wasn't surprising. Perhaps she'd be lucky and it would hold off for a while. She made her way downstairs and into the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from her eyes and sniffing hopefully for the intoxicating scent of coffee. A giggle emanated from somewhere nearby, followed by a warm, round object being pressed into her hands. "Got your coffee done up with all the works, T-bird; milk and sugar, just how you like it," Sable sang before whizzing over to the counter to prep Tanya's cereal.
Tanya mumbled something and sank onto a stool at the island, sipping at her coffee. It was the best thing ever created; hot, delicious and caffeinated. Well, it was second best after Count Chocula, the cereal that Sable had selected from the cupboard. "Any news about the weather? I want to take a walk later," Tanya asked her friend, listening to Sable hum as she poured cereal into a ceramic bowl. "Well you know how I get my predictions from my birds, with them being so sensitive to shifting air currents right? Brightsteel has been a little on edge, so we may be getting some foul weather soon. I dunno about WHEN this will hit, so don't take my word on it coming today," the bird-keeper replied as she splashed milk on the chocolatey crap her friend loved so dearly.
Sable set the bowl in front of Tanya and dropped a spoon in it, heading towards the door. "Oh just so you know, I'm flying up to my parents. They've been begging me to come visit for the holidays, so try not to waste away while I'm gone." A grunt from Tanya was all the affirmation she needed, and Sable disappeared. Breakfast took about twenty minutes to complete, thanks to a distraction in the form of Verchiel being chased through the house by a vengeful Ignitus.
After thoroughly chewing them out, Tanya headed upstairs and got dressed for the day; a white v-neck t-shirt, usual dark jeans and a gray sweatshirt coat. After brushing her hair and teeth, she deemed herself presentable to the public and headed back down to grab her bag. She headed round back and told her Pokémon to head inside if the weather got bad before finally leaving the cottage, zipping up her sweatshirt with a shiver.
It was a fairly cool, crisp day, accentuated by gusting winds that got quite powerful at times. Tanya dug out her black knit cap from her bag and pulled it on her head, hoping to keep her mahogany tresses from getting any more unruly. Luckily she'd also thought to remove stuff from her bag that she'd not need for a walk through the forest and had packed her black coat just in case the weather took a turn for the worse.
She strolled quietly through the forest, humming a tune and closing her eyes to enjoy the serenity. Something cold landed on her cheek and caused her eyes to snap open. White flakes were gently drifting down from the canopy above, swirling in the wind that began whipping more forcefully through the trees. Tanya shivered again and quickly opened her bag, grabbing the mass that was her coat and pulling it out. She groaned when it turned out to be just a scarf, probably belonging to Tobias.
"Well shit." The snow was falling a little more thickly, and the wind was biting into her cheeks and causing them to gain a flushed look. Her sweatshirt was no match for the wrath of the blizzard that had descended upon the area. She gritted her teeth and looked around, emerald eyes spotting a familiar shape in the distance; someone's house. Tanya struggled against the wind towards it, wrapping her arms around her body to try and retain some body heat. It took a few minutes before she was at their doorstep and rapping at the door. Hopefully there was someone home and they'd take pity on a lone teenage girl caught out in a fierce snowstorm.

Sandy shivered very gently as the snow began to fall. This was the first winter snow, and Victoria looked at it curiously. She batted at one of the flakes, but lost her balance and almost fell from the banister. Sandy leaned over and grasped her underarms firmly, dragging her back up.
“Goofball.” She commented, giggling. Victoria purred and brushed up against Sandy’s legs. Sandy grew concerned as the wind picked up and the snow began whipping around. Looked like a blizzard was coming, or already in the area. Hearing sharp, hurried knocked at the front foor, Sandy opened the sliding glass doors of the back porch and cut through the living room. Victoria followed behind her, curious as to who was at the door.
Sandy pulled it open, but she wasn’t expecting who she found there. Tanya… she looked like she was freezing, and it had been a while since they met, but her blazing red hair and emerald eyes tipped the girl off right away.
“Tanya! I…come in, you’ll catch a cold out there.” She led the older girl inside, shutting the door to the cruel cold outside where the blizzard was having its way with things. Jax had by now, rolled off of the couch in his sleep and was now on the floor, and Sandy quickly made her way to the fire place. Picking out a Pokeball, she tossed it up into the air.
“Go, Munchy!” Munchy materialized and looked up at her, expecting some kind of order already.
“Come on and help me start the fire up please?” she asked, leading him to the fireplace. Munchy set to work and Sandy then turned back around, greeting Tanya with a friendly expression.
“Go ahead and sit down.” Taking a seat herself, Sandy dusted at her slightly snow covered pants, while Victoria sniffed at Tanya curiously. She glanced up at her before leaping up onto the couch beside her. Purring like she was asking to be petted. Munchy glanced behind him.
“Quilava..” Attention grabber.. Victoria purred softly.
“Glamew mew…” Well, isn’t this the pot calling the kettle black… Munchy snorted and lit the fire, the logs igniting in the warmth that was much needed. Sandy, ignoring the antics of her Pokemon, then went on to question Tanya further.
“Are you alright? What were you doing out here? I mean…we get travelers all the time according to the housekeeper but they did say there was going to be a bad snowstorm today…they’re even calling ti a blizzard.” She noticed the wrapped presents were still on the table, but she’d shove them under the tree later.

When the door opened to reveal a very familiar face, Tanya's eyes widened and she temporarily forgot the raging blizzard behind her. "S-Sandy?" the girl spluttered brilliantly, not at all expecting her friend to be the house's owner. Tanya was ushered in and she did so gladly, nearly groaning as she no longer felt like a Popsicle. It was a cute, quaint abode, and to her it was a bit of a god-send. Had she not spotted it... ugh, perish the thought.
Seeing Sandy release Munchy made Tanya bring out Saphira as well. The red dragon squeaked when she saw her trainer, looking at the bits of ice that had formed in her hair. She hustled over to where Munchy sat by the fireplace and added her own fire to really warm up the place, waving at the Quilava once she was done. Tanya nearly sank into the couch when Sandy said she could sit down and let out an audible sigh.
Finally thawing out, she looked at the prim Glameow that had hopped up beside her, purring. Before she touched the feline, Tanya's eyes slid over to Sandy. "She won't claw me if I pet her, will she?" she asked lightly. Glameow were notorious for being finicky, and of course she didn't just want to make herself at home and cozy up to the Pokémon without asking permission.
"I didn't hear anything about the weather hitting today. I usually rely on my friend because her birds are oh-so-sensitive.. I'm having a word with her when she gets back," Tanya said ruefully. Hell, next time she'd turn on the TV and watch the news instead of asking the bird queen for the local forecast. "I was just taking a walk when it started getting bad. And of course, being a real scatter-brain in the mornings, didn't check to see if I'd actually packed my coat. So thank Arceus for your place," she finished with a grateful smile.
Even Starscream wouldn't have been able to help her get out of a predicament like a blizzard. Tanya's eyes roved around the room, taking in each detail but somehow missing the painfully obvious presents as she absorbed the heat from the roaring fire. Saphira trotted over and tsked at Tanya for being irresponsible, to which Tanya replied to by sticking out her tongue. "I didn't even know you had a place out here. My parents have a cottage I use just outside of Azalea."

Upon hearing Tanya’s question about Victoria, Sandy shook her head. Victoria was finicky indeed, but she loved attention. Max and Lenny had both taken to the cat quickly for that reason. She liked being petted by anyone, and Sandy knew that, even if she hadn’t had her for too long. She looked down at Jax and gently scooped him up, placing him back on the couch beside her.
“No, she won’t scratch you, Victoria may seem like that type at first, but she’s a good girl.” Sandy promised. She listened as Tanya spoke of her friend, and how she said nothing about the Blizzard being today. It had been on the news, but Sandy knew people didn’t always watch that. She had just been in the kitchen with Mac when they announced it.
“Well, the weather is unpredictable.” She decided. Munchy returned Saphira’s wave with a nod of his head. The Quilava wasn’t really too social, but he didn’t mind a fire type like himself. Sandy remembered a cottage outside of Azalea as Tanya mentioned it. Yeah…that might have been where PenPen had taken her, but she wouldn’t mention that little trip.
“Well, I actually live in New Bark town, this is my vacation house. My family shares it, and I was just here resting, because I was going to go home for Christmas but then they announced the Blizzard and everyone thought it’d be better if I stayed here.” She explained, looking out at the whipping snow that every once in a while hit the windows.
“Sandy, who do we have here?” Sandy turned as a rather round man entered the room. He was carrying a tray of hot chocolate, covered in whipped cream and cherries. He set it down on the table as Sandy spoke.
“Mac, this is Tanya, she’s a friend of mine I met while traveling.” The girl explained, taking one of the cups. Mac seemed delighted to have a guest.
“Ah I see. Well it’s lovely to meet you Tanya. My name is Mac, and I’m the housekeeper…former caretaker, you know, before Sandy grew up she-“
“Mac! No embarrassing stories please.” Sandy’s face was a bit red. She always hated it when Mac tried to tell a story of her childhood…well, she knew he was just trying to relive the past, but it could get quite annoying.
“Right, I’m sorry Sandy. Anyway, I heard you come in earlier Tanya, the other hot chocolate is for you, you can help yourself, or if you don’t like hot chocolate I’d be glad to get you something else.” He then focused his attention on Sandy again.
“Sandy, will she be staying with us? I really wouldn’t want her going out in that blizzard.” Sandy shrugged.
“If she wants too, though…” she then spoke to Tanya. “I don’t know how you’re going to get back through Ilex in that, and I wouldn’t like to see you try. We have a guest bedroom if you want to stay there, it’s kind of cozy.” Mac nodded, before stepping back.
“Well, I’ll leave the two of you to catch up then, call if you need something else.”
“Thank you for the chocolate Mac.” Mac nodded as if to say no problem before disappearing into the kitchen. Sandy then turned back to Tanya.
“Mac’s a nice guy, my mother actually told me he’s been working here in the vacation house for twenty-four years now.” She explained, patting the sleeping Pachirisu next to her.

When Sandy said she wasn't the type to claw, Tanya shifted her hand and stroked the fur under Victoria's chin. She remembered her mother saying that cats could sometimes perceive a hand coming down on their heads as a threat and lash out, and she certainly didn't want to end up with skin carved out of her hand. "Dang you're soft, pretty one," Tanya murmured, the Glameow's fur feeling almost like velvet against her fingers.
She listened to Sandy explain her living situation and nodded, wishing her home wasn't all the way up in the mountains. For now, though, the cottage would make do. "Si, you're smarter than I am. I don't like to stay put though, and look where that got me," Tanya said in a slightly dry tone, grinning at her own foolishness. The girl was about to speak again when a man entered the room carrying a tray of something that had an aroma nearly as intoxicating as morning coffee.
A warm smile spread on her face in greeting. "Nice to meet you, Mac," she replied politely, dipping her head slightly. Tanya reached out and grabbed the second mug, greedily inhaling the warm, chocolatey aroma. "No worries, hot chocolate is great." She swiped her finger into the whipped cream and licked it off with a satisfied expression before plucking a cherry off and eating it while Mac tried to launch into a story of Sandy's past.
The red glow on the blonde girl's cheeks made a wry smile flit across her face before she hurriedly hid it with the mug, taking a careful sip so as to not get any whipped cream on her nose. The discussion soon turned as to if she were to stay or try to make her way through the blizzard. Her emerald eyes drifted to the window, watching the snow whip against it, driven into a fury by the unending wind.
"As long as you don't mind having me and my motley crew of partners here, I'm alright with staying. I may be foolish, but I won't be foolish twice in one day," Tanya replied, nodding her head towards the window. Reaching into her bag, she released two more of her Pokemon, Caladrius and Aster. The two were relatively calm and not likely to cause any mayhem or antagonism amongst the others.
Aster sidled close to Tanya, staring curiously at her hot chocolate, while Caladrius snorted softly and went over to stand by the fire, absorbing the warmth. "Whew, that's a long time. Nobody but my friend and her boyfriend take care of the cottage. They pretty much live there, to be honest. Course I help out more since I'm using it as my 'base', so to speak," she said in response to Sandy's last words.
Taking another sip of the hot cocoa and slurping up some of the whipped cream, she slid her eyes over to Sandy before lowering the mug. "So tell me what's happened since we last parted. If I'm crashing for the night I'm sure we have plenty of time to detail each adventure," Tanya said with a laugh, resuming petting Victoria.

Victoria was honestly fully enjoying the attention she was getting from the red-head. Sandy glanced at her, giving her a warning that she shouldn’t bother the guests, but since Tanya didn’t seem to mind, Victoria wasn’t too concerned. Purring at being called soft, she settled down next to Tanya, crossing one front paw over the other in a relaxed position. Munchy narrowed his eyes at her, like giving her a warning. Victoria opened one eye and smirked at Munchy before closing her eyes again, pretending he wasn’t there anymore.
When Tanya mentioned her team, Sandy gave her a simple smile. It wasn’t like she minded. How could she? Shaking her head, she took another sip of her drink and watched Tanya as she released two Pokemon of her own. She recognized the Ralts instantly, looking him over for a minute.
“So that’s Aster huh? He looks a lot stronger than when I last saw him.” She commented, remembering she gave him to Tanya in the first place, and it was probably a smart move. If it weren’t for Tanya, the poor thing would be sitting at Elm’s lab right now, probably not doing anything exciting. She then looked at the Blitzle, and chuckled.
“Hey, that’s something I don’t see every day, He looks great Tanya.” She commented, motioning towards the Thunder-steed. It was very true Sandy rarely saw Unovian Pokemon, and owned very few of her own. Listening to Tanya talk of her own cottage, she nodded, keeping the cup of cocoa close to her face, something she did without thinking about it.
Though she did wonder what she should say when Tanya asked about her travels. It had been a long time since they met, and so much had happened. Where was there to start?
“Well…I had a weird Halloween…” She then thought of Ladybell, and figured she shouldn’t get into it. “Too many kids.” She covered quickly, going on to explain she had spent it in a festival at New Bark town. Darryl crawled out from under the couch suddenly, glancing up at Sandy. There wasn’t anything tasty under that couch, that was for sure.
“Darryl, what were you doing under there?” Darryl shrugged as the girl picked her up and began fiddling with her scarf, trying to set it right. Well…that was another thing that happened…right?
"I also went to another festival in New Bark Town. It’s called the New Starts festival, and it’s really pretty… a lot of people come from far away just for that…even if its mainly for new trainers. You could always try to go if you have time next fall Tanya, its always held near the end of fall, right when it starts snowing.” She explained, going on to look down at Darryl.
“My friend, he gave me this Sandshrew, but I get kind of nervous around her sometimes, because I’ve never taken care of a Sandshrew and I’m going to stop talking now before I start rambling… anyway Tanya, how has your adventure been so far?” Munchy’s gaze shifted from the fireplace to Sandy. She had entirely left out her gym battle, and he had noticed her nervous flittering around it, but he just snorted.

Tanya wasn't used to a Pokémon that was so open to affection; even Saphira, with her tendency to stick close to Tanya, didn't seem to ask for attention like Victoria did. It was a nice change. It seemed, however, that Sandy's Quilava was none too fond of the cat, reminding her of Starscream's piercing glare on a few of her own. Maybe they shared a brain...
When Sandy remarked upon seeing Aster, the Ralts turned towards her with a slight smile. He was still mute, but he seemed happy enough to see his old trainer. "Yup, I was training him in Ilex for a while before I stopped back in town. And as for him, his name is Caladrius. I came across him at the Unova Festival. He's a bit shy but I've yet to see him in action," Tanya mused, glancing over at the Blitzle.
She listened attentively as Sandy went over her adventures since they'd last parted, nodding appropriately. She looked at Darryl and smiled, recalling the time Ignitus was a young chick and how he'd toasted a Sandshrew with his powerful Flamethrower. "That festival reminds me of the Summer Solstice ceremony we have back in Blackthorn. Everyone would throw non-stop parties for a week, and at the end, a few lucky people would go home with Dragon-type eggs. Ugh." Before she'd become afraid of them, the lucky egg recipients had been objects of jealousy for her younger self.
"As for me? I've only done a wee bit of traveling, mainly stuck around this area though. Honestly there's not much to offer. I lead a fairly boring life," Tanya remarked with a laugh. Like Sandy, she too was recalling the mansion of terror from Halloween night. "I've been trying to make it through Ilex mostly, though something interesting did come to my attention a couple nights ago. Apparently a few Pokémon I wanted to reside with Elm were stolen before they arrived, but some new trainer was put in charge of their well-being. I don't mind that part, but Elm has some seriously lax security..."
She shook her head, causing her hair to spill into her face. It was at that point she realized her hat was still on, and the girl quickly removed it and fixed her hair, placing the hat on her lap. Tanya took another gulp of the cocoa and sighed, setting the mug on the table. "Oh well, what can you do? I'll see if I can get a hold of this trainer, but for now all I'd like to do is get to Goldenrod and prepare myself for Whitney. I heard she favours Normal types, and if Aster evolves soon, maybe I can get him a Dawn Stone. Any plans for the near future?" Tanya asked Sandy, winking at Aster, who had turned his head at the mention of his name.

It was now Sandy’s turn to listen, and she did so pretty well. She listened as Tanya explained to her about the Summer Solstice Ceremony, which sounded a lot more professional than their little New Bark Festival, but she did notice Tanya’s obvious disgust at the mention of dragon type eggs. She looked down at Darryl, who glanced back up at her curiously. She was hesitant to ask, but she finally did.
“Tanya… do you not like dragon types?” she asked as Victoria remained by the older girl’s side. She recalled her distinct fear of Mightyena, and even with Hotaru, she was still fearful of the species, only getting over it slowly as she could. She however, also recalled everything else Tanya had said.
“I’m sure Aster would be fine against Whitney if he evolved into a Gallade, after all, he seemed pretty strong even when I faced him. Capturing him sure wasn’t anything easy, I’ll tell you.” She promised, looking over at the Ralts for a moment. She listened when Tanya mentioned her stolen Pokemon.
“At…at least it’s good you know they’re under someone’s care. I’m fearful for the Pokemon I leave there sometimes too. I’m terrified when I leave Scatter and Berry there sometimes, but those two can take care of themselves for the most part.” When asked about future plans, Sandy shifted in her seat.
“Mm…I’m not so sure actually. I hope to get to Goldenrod soon too, since it isn’t too far from here, but rest is what I need right now. I’ll have to get Scatter back onto the team and help him train hard, It seems weird that I’ll be relying on my Normal type for the Normal gym, but he and Munchy stand the best chance.” The sudden smell of food found its way into the area, and Sandy chuckled.
“Looks like Mac’s cooking something. He always loves cooking for guests.” She mentioned, looking back at the kitchen.

For once, Tanya averted her eyes from Sandy, though it wasn't out of shame. It was due in part to the fact her memories, having so recently been used against her in hopes of terrifying her, were playing out in her head. The emotions running through her eyes would have likely evoked pity, something the stubborn red-head hated having directed at her. "I had a near-death experience with them as a kid. Thinking about them freaks me out, but if I ever came across one, I-i..." Tanya trailed off.
She took a long, deep breath to settle her racing heart. Even just imagining meeting a Dragon type had the power to incapacitate her. "Ironic, my fear, considering where I grew up. But I won't let it cripple me forever. I'll end up facing Clair one day and I refuse to shut down and let my partners fend for themselves," the girl finished on a slightly more confident note. Somehow she would get over this inane fear of hers.
Taking another hearty draw of steaming hot chocolate, she listened to Sandy quietly, though a smile had eased the fear off of her face and from her eyes. "Next time I send Pokemon back, I'll make sure Elm gets an earful. It's not always a wise idea to leave them at my cottage, especially since Sable and Tobias have to deal with them as well as guests." Elm was a fool if he thought a promise of her lost Pokemon's safety was enough to placate her.
"I was just gonna go at her with brute force. My Combusken should be very helpful, especially with that dastardly Expert Belt I got my hands on a while back," Tanya said with a wry grin. She was going to make sure she had a back-up plan in case her strategy of full-out assault didn't work on the leader, but for now she was gonna take it easy. It wasn't like Whitney would up and move in the time it took for Tanya to arrive in Goldenrod.
After she finished speaking, she took a light sniff at the delectable aroma. It made her hungry, given her light breakfast of just cereal and coffee. Tanya chuckled with Sandy, finishing off her hot chocolate and setting the mug back on the table, still petting Victoria. "I'll eat anything he makes, I'm starved," she said with another laugh. Saphira made a noise from over by the fire, drawing Tanya's emerald gaze. "Does he make food for the Pokemon too? Because if he doesn't, Saphira will probably end up stealing off my plate, the glutton."

Sandy watched the pleased expression on Victoria’s face from all the attention she was receiving from Tanya. Listening to how Hungry Tanya was, followed by her question, Sandy gave a nod.
“Of course! Mac never forgets to feed all the Pokemon around here, with the bunch that I have. Sometimes I’m pretty sure they eat more than a herd of Ponyta.” She added before turning to Look at Munchy. Munchy gazed back at her, but did nothing more, while Darryl already seemed hungry just thinking of Dinner, and how warm it would be.
<Incoming!> Sandy turned herself in the direction of the staircase, where a fluffy Flareon trotted down the stairs, an Eevee dangling from her jaws. The Eevee squirmed feebly, batting at the air with her front paws as she tried to protest against the Flareon. The soothe bell on her collar jingled as she did, and the Flareon gladly set her on the floor when she reached the bottom. The Eevee gave an exasperated growl as she slumped to the floor with a snort.
<I told you I could do it myself Gem!> She cried, her fur bristling as she watched the older Eeveelution. Gem flicked her tail dismissively.
<Oh Muru we all know you can’t climb stairs, not with that leg of yours.> She reminded her, making Muru growl again. A calmer Eevee bounded down the stairs, running up to Muru and burying her nose into the bigger Eevee’s fur.
<Come on Muru, I know you’re strong, and everyone else knows that too. But you know your leg stops you from doing stuff a lot. Don't listen to Gem either, Scatter told me she's a cranky old furball...> Niamh whispered the last part, and tensed for a moment when she noticed the Flareon angle her ears as if she had heard.
<I guess, Niamh…> Muru answered as her sister nudged her to her feet. Sandy patted Gem as she came up to her, and then turned back to Tanya.
“Tanya, this is Gem. She normally comes out to tell everyone when it’s time for dinner. Feel free to let out all your Pokémon when we get into the kitchen. I’m sure Mac prepared enough for six since he doesn’t know how many you have.” Niamh came scrambling past Tanya’s legs, followed by the limping Muru. Munchy and Darryl also followed them into the kitchen as Sandy got up. She was followed by Victoria as she led Tanya into the next room, a totally white kitchen with an island bar, where Mac had prepared plenty of food for the two girls.
Sandy pulled out the remaining Pokeballs she had on her. Releasing them, she called out Hiroki, Hotaru, Berry, and Scatter Hiroki and Berry went off to go share a bowl of food while Hotaru and Munchy took two of the bowls side by side. Muru and Niamh scrambled over to share one of the bowls together with Scatter, taking hurried bites. Victoria ate by herself, like she normally did.
“Looks great Mac! I just hope you didn’t slip any sweets into Niamh’s bowl again today…” Mac chuckled and shook his head.
“Maybe one… but you know I can’t deny little Niamh her sweets, she gets so sad.” He explained, watching the little brown creature nip at some of the food in her bowl. Sandy shook her head, but she was smiling.
“Tanya, you can go ahead and let everyone out to eat now. I’m sure my Pokémon will be glad to speak with them.” Sandy sat down in one of the chairs by one of the plates Mac had prepared, and Mac nodded.
“Yes, I think I’ve made plenty for your partners as well Tanya, I just hope they like it!” Mac’s voice was warm, from years of taking care of house guests as they came and went.

Saphira seemed pleased enough by Sandy's answer and made a rasping noise of contentment. Tanya smiled dryly at the lizard, hoping she didn't pig out and give herself a stomachache because of her ravenous appetite. The red-head looked over at the same time as her friend as a Flareon came trotting down the stairs with a small, absolutely adorable Eevee hanging from its mouth.
A second came down behind them and calmed the bigger one, seeing as how there was an air of disagreement between it and the Flareon. Tanya stood and watched the two Eevee dash by her, failing to hide a grin. "Aw, I've always loved Eevee. They're just so darn cute," the girl remarked, following Sandy towards the kitchen. She paused just outside, turning round to release the rest of her team.
Aster, Saphira and Caladrius were shortly joined by Starscream, Ironhide and Moka. Tanya turned to her two Steel-types and fixed them with a stern look. "I don't care if either of you want to eat on your own, but no hostility allowed in that kitchen. Am I understood?" the girl said in a serious tone. Starscream dipped his beak, knowing better than to be an atrocious role model in front of strangers. Ironhide snorted but nodded as well, and the six Pokémon followed Tanya into the kitchen.
Tanya headed over to the island and exclaimed her delight over the delicious smelling food. Saphira grabbed a bowl and sat down close to Hotaru and Munchy, grinning at both of them in her usual friendly manner. Aster led Caladrius over to a single bowl, both picking at the food in peace. Moka fluttered over to Saphira and began slyly stealing from the Charmeleon, who seemed not to notice. Ironhide nudged his bowl as far away from the other Pokémon as he could get and ate in solitude, turning his back on them.
When Starscream strode into the kitchen, Tanya's partners, excluding Moka and Ironhide, all stiffened somewhat, not used to eating with the intimidating steel bird in their presence. Starscream gently shifted the remaining bowl close to Tanya and settled down low on his legs, eating with dignity. Tanya smiled and gave the bird a gentle pat on the head, glad he was behaving for the most part. "I'm sure I can speak for all of my Pokémon when I say thanks a ton, Mac," she replied just as warmly. "Well, except Ironhide at least, but I'm sure he's grateful in his own way."

Munchy let his ears flicker as he lifted his head out of his bowl. Saphira seemed a bit intimidated for some reason. He bent over his food again, ignoring Starscream as he ate.
<What’s wrong with you, Saphira? You look like someone just treaded on your tail or something.> He murmured as he continued to eat. His ears flickered as Hotaru stood, staring at Starscream.
<He’s kind of scary Munchy. I wouldn’t blame you for being scared of him, Saphira, not all all.> Hotaru barked worriedly, nervously going back to her food. Yawning, Munchy rolled his eyes.
<Oh he’s just a bird.>
<A scary Bird.>
<Then you must have the fear capacity of a frightened Togepi.> Hotaru sighed and went back to her own food, annoyed with how much confidence the fire shrew always had in himself. She barely noticed Moka, like she would. Hotaru normally didn’t notice little things like that anyway. Victoria looked up from taking elegant bites to observe the others.
<Oh my…what a full house today…> She murmured, her fur standing on end. Berry and Hiroki looked over at Ironhide.
<I wonder what the deal is with him.> Hiroki muttered. <Might have to play some tricks on him, yup.> Shrugging, Berry chewed thoughtfully on a piece of food.
<I wouldn’t Hiroki. Trying to play a trick on him would possibly be bad news for you. Aron can burrow too.> Hiroki closed his eyes, thinking about it for a minute.
<Ah, you’re no fun Bers.> He murmured, going back to his food. Scatter ate about as gracefully as Victoria, while the other two sharers of his bowl scrambled to eat their shares.
<You know, you girls are going to get a stomach ache if you eat so much at once.> He muttered through a mouthful. Niamh flicked an ear, looking up.
<We’re growing girls Scatter, we have a good reason.> Muru looked up, licking her muzzle softly.
<Well maybe we could slow down…>
<Oh I see how it is…>
<Niamh!> Sandy watched the bustle of the Pokemon as they ate, taking a bite of her own food as Tanya complimented Mac. Mac’s eyes glittered with pride.
“Well thank you Tanya! I’m happy to know that our guests are pleased!” Sandy smiled at Mac warmly, her basic childhood nanny had always amused her with the fact the slightest compliment made him happy. Sandy was thinking about the comment that Tanya had made earlier.
“Niamh? Come here girl!” Niamh lifted her head from the bowl, darting over to Sandy’s legs. She turned to look at Starscream, but wagged her tail excitedly as Sandy lifted her off the floor.
“Niamh, this is Tanya. Tanya, this is my second Eevee, Niamh. She’s Muru’s sister, and she’s younger, but she’s one of the sweetest things I’ve ever known.” Mac added quickly.
“She has the biggest sweet tooth I’ve ever known.” Sandy laughed and patted Niamh’s head. Niamh transferred herself from Sandy’s lap to Tanya’s, unaware of whether she was eating or not.
<Her name is Tanya? I wonder if she’s got any sweets...> she crooned. Mac seemed to know what she wanted, but he began to walk away.
“I’ll go prepare the guest room for Tanya, Sandy, you girls have a good meal.” He exited to prepare the bedroom and Sandy turned to Tanya.
“They were both owned by a pretty bad trainer. Niamh wasn’t injured, the guy didn’t have the chance, but he put Muru up against a Gyarados and well…” she motioned to Muru, who was still eating with Scatter. Her leg was scarred and crooked, giving Sandy’s friend enough of a good guess at what happened. Sandy looked down at her food and took another bits, happy since she didn’t often get to eat Mac’s cooking, it was good to savor.

When questioned by Munchy, Saphira looked at the Quilava, her eyes uneasy. 'See... Starscream likes to bully us, especially during times when we eat if Tanya isn't around... so having him nearby just makes some of us really antsy. He's awful.' All of this was said in hushed tones to prevent Starscream from hearing this and delivering retribution for this slander later. 'He doesn't bother me too much, but maybe it's because I'm too cute,' Moka said sweetly, proving her naivete.
'Most of us don't want to be on his bad side, so we just sorta go out of our way to avoid him. If you saw him when he gets mad.. it's really something,' Caladrius chimed in. He'd witnessed an episode of the raptor's fury with an indecent Pidgeotto resulting in the poor eagle nearly being shredded to pieces before Tanya had intervened, alarmed by the ruckus. The Blitzle snorted softly, going back to the food while Aster mutely nodded his agreement with the steed.
Ironhide, meanwhile, sensed eyes on him and whipped his head around, bright blue eyes cold and hard. He wasn't angry, but knowing he was a topic of discussion simply irked him. Grunting, the steel creature returned to the food, wishing he had some metal to eat. This soft, plain-tasting food was not very satisfying. Starscream remained quiet, ignoring the other Pokémon so that he would keep his calm state of mind and not make a fool of himself in front of a friend of his trainer's.
Tanya's eyes sparkled as Sandy called over her second Eevee, Niamh. "Pretty name for a pretty girl," the teenager said appreciatively, chuckling when Mac added that the fox-like creature had a big sweet tooth. She grinned as the Eevee smoothly hopped on her lap, looking up her with an inquisitive light in her eyes. Tanya reached into the pocket of her pants and pulled out a small plastic bag of candy, something she had taken along for a burst of energy should she have needed it during her walk.
She pulled out a jelly bean and offered one to Niamh, listening to Sandy explain how she'd come across the two Eevees, green eyes drifting over to Muru. "Ugh, people like that should be thrown in jail and not have the right to train, own or be near Pokémon. How'd you find them?" Tanya asked as she lifted her fork and took a bite, savouring the delicious meal.

Niamh’s eyes glittered in delight as she took the Jelly Bean, chewing it thoughtfully as she looked at Sandy. Sandy was thinking back to when she had found them, recalling Roger.
“I found Muru picking through my garbage outside my house. I helped at least set her leg straight so she could walk on it without feeling too much pain, one of Professor Elm’s aids helped me there.” Muru was picking at her meal, stopping occasionally to let Scatter eat some, and then returning to it after her was done.
“Her old Trainer came back and somehow had the gall to act like she wanted him back. So we fought him and I won, so I kept Muru. Niamh came later, the kid’s relative said that he was keeping her as well, and that she and Muru had the same parents, so I said I’d take care of her.” Niamh purred at the story, her fluffy tail flicking. Sandy smiled and patted her as she jumped back onto her lap, before putting her down so she could scuttle across the room back to Muru. Sandy had managed to finish a little more food before she felt more or less full, and remembered something.
“Oh Tanya, wait here a minute.” She got up and walked into the living room, picking a present up off the table and walking back into the kitchen. She slid it over to the other girl.
“I thought you might like something like that, so I brought it for you. My Grandfather made it all the way in Mahogany town.” She murmured, not giving away exactly what the gift was, but giving just enough information. It was getting late, so she figured she should give the gift to her before she went to sleep. Though she was considering something about Niamh, that was a decision left for the morning. Sandy picked up her dish and cleaned it off, turning to wash it in the sink.
