I remember when G/S came out. I was at a wedding for one of my cousins (been to a million baby showers for them since then) and one of my other cousins my age had Gold version. At the time, I had no idea they released a second game in the series. It was soooooo cool.

...Excuse my shock but that's the first time i've ever heard of anyone being into Pokemon via the anime and got into the games so much later! Wow, you may very well be the only person in existence to have a claim like that. nope, I can. I first saw the anime, and later got the games. Not really surprising, most people in this counrty did. the games came much later. I was 10 when that happened, so now I'm 20; I've been in pokemon for 10 years. I think real fans will never really grow out of it. At least, if they keep making good new pokemon.

Oh, I would have been about 11/12 when I first started collecting the cards, and got my first Blue version on black and white gameboy Im nearly 21, and my friend has been playing it more than me. We still love watching the series, but personally, I enjoy the movies alot now. And we are both female! Yeah, I was a hardcore card collector. I got rid of them all though, because I grew out of the card collecting eventually. But, I got the pokemon card game on gameboy, and I LOVED creating decks XD I got the Gold version, and now my brother is into it, so I play his games now. Not to mention the pokemon games on Nintendo 64 and Wii. Oh, the good 'ol days When we were allowed to trade cards at school....

Trading cards back at school does bring back some nostalgic memories. Although, I must admit there was a fair share of controversy concerning that in my experience. While there was a lot of fair trades going on, you got some idiots that would go up and challenge you to a card battle. So let's say I bought out a Weezing or something, this schmuck (Who has remained in my memory for years now) pulled out an Arcanine and went HEY LOOK 100 DAMAGE, NOW GIMME YOUR CARD. He'd proceed to yoink it and... well. That was that. Then there was a time a group of friends and I decided to make a little group and pool some cards together. We had a Machamp and some kid was interested in trading a Mewtwo for it. Me, being the naive idiot I was back then, assumed Mewtwo in the TCG was as overpowered as he was in the games and also mentioned type effectiveness in favour of Mewtwo. We went ahead with the trade and... The card wasn't all that great. I think that was a pretty definitive experience in making me realise the games and the TCG were two seperate beasts entirely.

The TCG story you had reminds me of the leauge rules that used to be here, or at least where I went to play. When you lost you had to give the winner your entire deck. D: Parents complained quickly of course, they didn't like wasting the money that they used to buy the cards for their kids. Glad to say that I started playing after that though. There was this one guy though, he had his cards in a portfolio and picked out the ones he wanted, went from nothing right to Raticate. He got kicked out the very day he showed up. But trading I never had an issue with, just league rules and battles. Like on the 4th of July EVERYONE could only use Fire, Colorless, and Water Pokemon, if you had anything else (Even if it was only one Pokemon or energy card.) then you got kicked out. I know why they did it, but it ruined a lot of great decks, my own included since at the time I didn't have enough cards for making a bunch of decks. To answer the topic properly though, since the Red & Blue versions came out in the US.
