Having friends in high places sure did pay off. At least, that was all Joey couldn't help but feel in his mind having just been recently contacted by Steven Stone himself. The two had done an amiable trade earlier when Joey bumped into the famous Hoenn trainer. Expecting Team Rocket losers, he got much more than he could bargain for with a trade off of one of Steven's own prized collection of Beldum. " That was one phone call I was NOT expecting that's fer sure. Looks like he actually bothered noting down my contact. Hm." Trawling along having made a lengthy journey from his stop in Goldenrod, it wouldn't be long before he made it up the expanse of Route 32. Over in the far distance was the majesty of the ruins that loomed before him. " I'll have to pay him back good an' proper when I get the chance. Still, seems odd that he'd bother roping in someone like me. Maybe he was really impressed by Knox." Puzzling over why he had been chosen to help explore the ruins, a part of him felt slightly apprehensive. Since his stay in Johto, he had made somewhat of a name for himself. The tell tale bandanna and skull and cross bones didn't help much either in obscuring his identity. As he walked along, he laughed while taking off his bandanna. " Time for a little improv." Undoing it, he casually wrapped it around his neck with the front logo now facing inwards. For now, it'd do as a means of deterring his identity. Last thing he wanted was waltzing in there only for the excavators to blow their lids. Feeling the foreign sensation of wind blowing over his bare head and pushing his hair backwards, he slowly made his way down to the excavated stairway. " I assume this has gotta be it. I doubt these Alph people had portakabins in place with the rest of this stone built ruins." Standing outside the entrance to the portable office, he focused himself before knocking on the door and entering in. Inside were a number of studious looking sorts, busily away examining what appeared to be clay like debris. At least, that's what it looked like to Joey. They were likely priceless bits of decoration from ancient times. Also present were a number of gruff looking archaeologists that were indulging a map of some sort, presumably that of the ruins. Clearing his throat abruptly, Joey couldn't help but hide a coy smirk at how they all looked up in unison. " Hey. I'm here on request from Steven Stone? Fella said he'd invited me to some dig or another." Looking around, an incredibly boffin like scientist emerged from an examination slab and hurried over to Joey. " So, where do I start diggin'?" Unfortunately, it wasn't going to be so simple. Having to endure a prolonged lecture on the health and safety hazards of the ruins as well as remembering not to destroy and practising extreme care, he was eventually told where to head with detailed instructions of his already set up digging site. " Steven not about?" Inquired Joe. Turns out the ruin maniac had got unprecedented progress into one other section of an unknown part of the ruins. " Pft, typical." Shrugging, he took his digging kit and quickly made his way to the digsite. This was going to be something to tell the grandkids. Equipping on his safety helmet he also turned on the helmet's lighted torch. " Heh, not sure I need this, got a hard head as it is." Shrugging, he took off his leather jacket, already feeling quite heated from the weather. His tank topped shirt showed off his body primed for a dig. Folding up the jacket, he stashed it into the backpack given and strapped it on. All that was left was the shovel that he took up with enthusiasm. " Time to see what this thief can loot! Pretty sure the long since deceased ain't gonna be needin' it anymore, anyhow." As he entered into one of the ruin's impressive entrances, he proceeded his way down a long flight of stairs. Parts of the steps were uneven and largely unstable meaning that the trip down was one of arduous journey. Thankfully though, with his torch and the pre-lighted torches placed along the walls, he it wasn't any harder than it needed to be. Nearing to the end, Joey grinned as he saw a highlighted area with a white string cordoning off the area and some flags. " Guess this is it. Let's put these muscles to some good work. Heave ho!" Beginning to dig away, Joey curiously pushed on in anticipation of some findings. - Joey excavates A1, A3, B2, C1, C3. -

Determinedly excavating away at the digsite, Joey used every last bit of his stamina to make his way through the dirt patches. The promise and allure of rare and valuable treasures was enough to string him along like a donkey with a carrot. Sweat now running down his body, he seemingly hit something in his first choice. Now panicking that he had damaged some sort of artefact, he pulled out some far gentler archaeological digging kit and began brushing and digging away at the dirt. Surprisingly, what he pulled up was something he knew all too well. "A LEAF STONE? Wow, maybe these things really are somethin' special. I always thought they were some cheap tacky stuff sold in shops that had some sort of special trigger to evolve Pokemon." Grabbing it, he looked to the rucksack before tossing it in and standing back up to carry on full steam. Switching over to the top right most corner, he began furiously digging away until he received a similar clang to the shovel. "Well what do we have here, eh?" Kneeling down, he was able to procure it without much struggle and couldn't help but grin as his helmet's light shone down on it.
"A Moon Stone huh? Ain't seen one of these in a while. Not since that one fell outta the sky and made Turncoat into the giant he is." Tossing it carefully into the backpack once more, he carried on digging. Now focusing on the centre of the digsite, it became obvious that whatever was earthed beneath the ground was a lot further hidden. Now making an incredible ditch downwards, Joey wiped some sweat from his forehead. "What gives? This is going on for ages. Grrrrr!" Now giving it his all, he dexterously chiselled away before a satisfying connect of his shovel with an artefact made itself known. Placing it amazingly well, he lifted it up with a heave from the depth of the hole below and was somewhat bemused to see a weird darkened object? "The hell? This doesn't look like anything i've seen before. Its really dark and not like any other fossil i've seen. Maybe its just some decompressed waste or something." Shrugging, he tossed it back down into the digsite and paused for a moment. This was definitely thirsty work. Moving into his pocket, he took out a hip flask and enjoyed a handsome swig. Gasping as he let the burning liquor slip down the back of his neck, he felt good enough to go on, even if the alcohol would take its toll.
Quickly digging away with renewed vigour, it wasn't long before he came across another recognisable object. "Hahaha awwwww yeah! If it ain't a nugget. I know i'm gonna be eatin' well tonight." Gleaming boisterously over his new found obtained item, he took one final breath of air before focusing on the remaining patch. "I sure hope there are some fossils or something. Everyone's already ravin' on about them bein' down here. So far its been nothin' but junk." Unbeknownst that the dark object he found earlier was in fact a Cover Fossil, he made his next few digs. Oddly, there was something different about the matter he was digging through. "Veeeery delicate." Resorting to his other tools, he soon came across what he mistakenly believed to be another nugget in his stupor along with the dingy conditions of the ruin. "Pfffffft, so much for fossils." Shaking his head, he pocketed the nugget and grinned. "Least with a nugget or two I can get somethin' good." Standing up and gathering everything, he let out a stretch. "Wasn't a bad detour I 'spose." Moving out of the ruins and heading back to Goldenrod, it was hopeful he'd wise up to have dug up an Old Amber.

"A... dig?"
Sam adjusted her hat to shield the sun out of her eyes as she listened to the people as they spoke urgently to one another. Apparently there was an open excavation at the Ruins of Alph, and while she wasn't too terribly interested in the monetary profit like the two miners whispering beside her were, she still had a bit of interest in digging around. It'd be just like home, wouldn't it? Picking out the weeds from the garden, and helping her mom and dad keep the grasses down so the Ponyta and other stock weren't uncomfortable. Digging wasn't her favorite, but she was willing to get down and dirty if it meant possibly finding something new, exotic, and friendly.
"E... Excuse me, sirs! How could I join up with the digging?" She asked one of the men after tapping on his shoulder. Both of them turned to look at her, blink, and then laugh. Sam furrowed her brow and simmered for a few moments before turning around and heading towards the dig site. Perhaps it was only exclusive? Adjusting her hat and overalls, she stepped into the Alph building and was flabbergasted by all of the hustle, bustle and movement happening around her. "Whoah, it's sure busy here!"
"Indeed, and you're late!"
A curt voice caught Sam's attention, and she turned on her heel to face a rather stern looking lady. "You were supposed to be here to help dig an hour ago! Hurry along, now. Grab your equipment." With a shoo'ing motion, the lady was gone, leaving Sam more confused than ever. After a few moments, it dawned on her. Her overalls and cowboy hat... Did they think she worked here? I.... I could use this to my advantage. I'm timid, but i'm not stupid. This is the chance of a life time! Sam weighed the benefits, and immediately ran outside to assist with the dig. "Oh please please please let me not break something..." She muttered as she approached a few of the plots. Getting down on her hands and knees, she carefully dug into the dirt.

As Samantha dug (albeit carefully) the sun burned hotter and hotter. Many diggers stood up to hit the shade for a while, while others huddled around a water cooler to cool off. Only a few were remaining, and Sam tied that to the immense amount of luck she had on her dig. She was used to the sun and heat. Carrying around feed and seed bags, baling hay, and everything else that happened on the farm was no contest compared to this. It was easy, and she was hardly doing anything! The first thing she dug up appeared to be a fossil.
"It... It looks like a jaw or something." She muttered, placing it off to the side. The electric zing of adrenaline started when she held it, and disappeared when she placed it down. Odd... The next item was yet another fossil, and another one followed suit. The Cover Fossil and Dome Fossil sat next to the Jaw Fossil. "Those guys better get back over here quick, or i'm gonna have cleaned out this whole lot, apparently." It was funny to her that they had stopped. Why not use all the daylight you could? She thanked her lucky stars and continued to dig, unearthing what looked like a strange evolution stone, and a shiny golden Nugget. "Jackpot! Im gonna be rich! I can even buy something at that Festival going on..." She mumbled to herself, quickly pocketing the extra goods.
The three fossils remained. "I don't even know how to pick from these..." She murmured. She didn't want to take all three. That would be greedy! She could take one, and then turn the rest into the dig. Take as in, secretly take since she was secretly here to begin with... Thank goodness for Farm roots. All the fossils seemed well preserved, and even though there was a large crack in the Jaw fossil, it was the only one that had sparked any emotion from her. When she touched it, her heart raced and she could hear the blood rushing in her ears, like she was back in the jungle and was the Pokemon inside this, running amok. Placing it in her bag (CAREFULLY) she turned the rest into the dig and disappeared to 'get water' before booking it back towards town.

Having, somehow, blundered her way through the fog to the digsite, Tanya was mildly surprised to see how busy it was. She'd been invited to attend the excavation through a present from her father, his way of expressing his pride for her journey through the region. The redhead hadn't expected the fog, though, and as a result arrived later than intended. Perhaps she would have made better time with one of her Pokemon to guide her through, but the person overseeing the dig had asked for her to keep them in their balls - something about preserving the site, and she had to agree there. Even her most mild mannered Pokemon could inadvertently ruin something without meaning to. (Heh. Ruin the ruins.) The thought amused her enough to have a silly grin on her face as she strode into the digsite, something that didn't endear her to the overseer who stopped her just a few feet in.
"You must be Tanya Jordan, yes?" the woman asked, eyes stern behind her spectacles. Wiping the grin from her face, Tanya adopted a more mature expression, though she wasn't quite able to clear the excited glimmer from her gaze as she peered at what she could see of the digsite. "Yes ma'am. I guess my father called ahead to let you--" "Yes, yes, he did. I have no time for layabouts, so go get your gear and get digging, missy," the woman interrupted, noting something down on the clipboard in her grasp and waving Tanya away dismissively. Tanya frowned, crossing her arms with a rather sulky look directed at the overseer's back as she turned away to speak to an archaeologist. So much for a warm and pleasant welcome. All things considered, it was a rather lively place, and she couldn't quite fault the woman for trying to manage everyone effectively.
"Doesn't excuse being rude though," Tanya murmured under her breath as she left to get gear, thinking of the sour look her grin had received. Grabbing a spare kit, the redhead made her way over to a somewhat empty section after asking a much friendlier person for a good spot to dig. She pulled on a pair of sturdy gloves before picking up her shovel, peering uncertainly at the dirt beneath her already dusty boots. "Well, here goes nothing," she said, aiming her shovel at a promising patch not far from her position. As Tanya dug, the muscles in her arms and shoulders already protesting, she wondered if, provided she found anything, they'd let her keep something. A souvenir of sorts, to commemorate her 'help' at the digsite. Not trinkets - they'd probably just be super gaudy. (A fossil would be amazing...) Buoyed by the idea, her digging increased in tempo, Tanya getting into a steady pattern as she hoped to strike lucky.

It wasn't until she'd been digging for several minutes until her shovel finally hit something solid, the sound causing her to freeze like a spooked Deerling. Oh, heck. Had she just potentially broken some priceless ancient artifact? Glancing around nervously, Tanya laid the shovel down as she knelt to paw through the dirt, grabbing hold of what she'd struck and lifting it to the dim lights strung along the entire digsite. It was a chalky bit of medicine that reminded her of a fallen star, Tanya recognizing it as a Revive and sighing with relief. This wasn't something she had expected to find, but at least it meant there would be no one berating her up one side and down the other for being so careless. Setting aside the medicine, curiosity seized hold and Tanya reached down further into the dirt, fingers brushing against an object that was a good deal larger than her last find.
"Huh. A Water Stone?" the redhead chuckled, brushing off the sparkling blue stone before placing it next to the Max Revive. Using a small trowel that had been thoughtfully included in the excavation kit, Tanya removed more of the dirt that her hands hadn't been able to teach, her heart beating quicker as she caught a gleam of bright orange. Is that... Not quite believing her own eyes, she pulled the chunk of gleaming amber free and held it reverently in her hands. "Wow! Is that what I think it is?" said a disembodied voice, the man she'd asked earlier for advice having come over to check on her progress. "That's an Old Amber, miss. It's a rather rare find!" he said helpfully. Tanya couldn't suppress a grin, flicking some stray dirt from the surface of the fossilized sap. "It sure is. My mom would love this if I sent it home to her."
The man gave her an odd look, but he shifted closer to peer into the hole she'd dug to point at something else. "I think you've got yourself a Dusk Stone, too," he remarked, digging the evolution stone free and placing it next to her steadily growing pile of goodies. But as he turned back to the hole, the man's eyes widened again, and he dove into the dirt with childlike glee as he hauled a clay-coloured rock out. "This spot must be really lucky, to have an Old Amber AND a Skull Fossil," he breathed, meeting Tanya's amazed expression with his own. He looked around, eyes briefly flicking to the overseer before returning to her face, the man leaning in close with a conspiratorial smile. "If you let me take this Skull Fossil, I'll tell you a secret. There's a facility, apparently, in Goldenrod City that has the rumoured ability to resurrect Pokemon from fossils. Including that Amber there."
Wow. Tanya looked down at the precious item still clutched in her hands, struck breathless at her luck. A Pokemon could be revived from this? She let her gaze linger on the Skull Fossil, but something about the one she held seemed more inviting. "Okay. I'll keep this Amber, if you don't tell that woman about it," Tanya said slowly, nodding at the overseer. The man grinned, and said they had a deal before he straightened up and loudly announced his 'find'. As the archaeologists swarmed him, Tanya quickly pocketed her own finds and slipped out unseen, heart racing at the thought of discovering what Pokemon would come from the amber chunk she'd naively imagined as a decoration for her mother at first.

She had been spending quite a bit of time in caves lately. A thought that occurred to her as she strut through the well lit caverns noisy with the little chips and tinks of many people working. She didn't expect to find an actual active digsite in the ruins. Lenore had just slipped through the gates to get a look at these special ruins everyone always talks about. Unfortunately she couldn't actually get in herself, something about not having the proper qualifications or something; she didn't really pay attention. All the while the security guard was talking her mind was filled with all kinds of plans to get where she was now. Which, admittedly, wasn't exactly where she had wanted to be initially but now her interest was peaked. Soon she had stepped into the well lit hall where a few scientists and ruin maniac-like individuals were busy hmming and hawing about certain holes and special markings poking out of the stone walls. Such dirty work. While she walked through, eyes scanning the various piles, she caught sight of something wondrous indeed: an actual fossil. A real pokémon fossil! Her heart leapt from her chest, a twinkle of adoration and lust completely taking her over as she approached the person holding it. They took notice of her. Turning their head and adjusting their dusty glasses the ruin maniac was taken aback by the odd woman fawning over him. "I-I say dear, just what are you doing here... in that?"Lenore completely ignored his comment of her dress, thrusting a finger toward the fossil with a beaming expression. "That! That is why I am here sir. I may not look it but I am a fossil maniac at my core," she fibbed. In truth she just liked rare things. Though, there were a few fossil pokémon she remembered hearing other famous people have and she would kill for the chance at one. "I don't suppose you guys have some room for another, hmm?" The dancer pulled back her arms to clasp her hands together by her heart in a pleading manner. The man fumbled for some words after she winked. There was a spark in her he recognized for sure, but could she really mean it? She came in heels. The archeologist took a second to look at the immediate area then sighed quietly. Why not? He gave directed her to some tools and then walked her over to a little offshoot of the main cavern that he said had yet to be claimed; so she could dig all she wanted. Lenore saluted him and waited till he was gone before trying to figure out how she was going to do this. Physical labor wasn't really her thing... Reaching into her coat she withdrew Tide's pokéball and brought it to her chin, holding the pick with her other hand. She looked over the area and mapped it out in her head. If she was going to do this she might as well do it as efficiently as possible so sectioning the area into a grid seemed reasonable. "Alright Tide, come on out babe." She released the duck and stepped back as the psyduck did her usual thing of dampening the entire area. It always amused her. So long as she didn't get wet herself. "I got a different kinda thing for you today hun. You know that new TM I gave yah? Well! It's time to use it. I want you to dig around here okay? And if you find any interesting rocks you bring them to me okay?"Tide nodded happily, cheering at the opportunity not to fight with anything. It was certainly a treat. For both of them really, as this way Lenore didn't have to actually do any work herself. Just hopefully Tide didn't ruin anything with her tendency to wet everything.

Lenore recalled her panting duckling, the poor thing dug so hard and uncovered quite a few lovelies. Even though it hadn't been the whole plot Lenore was still pretty happy with having uncovered, not one, but three fossils. With a loving pat she settled Tide's pokéball away in her jacket then scooped up all her findings into her arms and began to head out. If only it were so easy. As she passed back into the chamber from before the same ruin maniac came over to her just absolutely thrilled with what he saw. "Just look at all that!" the man greeted, trotting over with a clap. "We can't thank you enough for helping out with our dig young lady. I didn't believe your ambition at first but that is simply amazing! You have quite the knack. Now, just lay your findings into that bin and we'll handle the rest."The woman's bright expression instantly faded away. Her face darkening with disbelief. "What..?" she simply stated, short and demanding. Her company gulped then apologized. "Oh right, uh, well. I guess since they are your findings... you could keep most of that. We need as many fossils as possible, but I'm sure the association would be happy to let you pick one of those to keep for yourself as a thanks."Lenore continued glaring at the man for a moment, then looked in her arms. Frowning, she inspected the stuff. Well he said she could keep everything, though only one fossil so... Lenore pocketed the thick club and dusk stone quickly. Then it was just a matter of choosing between the fossils. The dancer looked a couple times between them and the man as she fiddled between them; looking like she would choose one then glancing his reaction. From just looking at them she had no idea what was what, but this guy was an expert so she'd just have to trust him. But she couldn't just ask of course, that would give away her ruse. After a few passes though she finally picked one, pulling out the one that looked like a dimpled shell. "I'll take this one then," she smiled, thrusting the other two into the man's arms and giving him a wave. He looked a bit disappointed, but it was quickly washed away with confusion as she made her exit so quickly. Taking: - Cover Fossil - Thick Club - Dusk Stone

Though his journey in Johto had only just begun, Shinya was in for a very big surprise, as he received an email from his usual contact, Venominon Ouroboros. Shinya was surprised to hear from Venom again so soon, having just received a Scyther and a TM from him mere days ago. As he read the email, Shinya's eyes widen with shock for a moment, but that shock was quickly replaced with a big grin of satisfaction. "Interesting. Venom never syces to surprise me. Looks like I picked up a better ally then I thought." Shinya said to himself, then quickly found himself a taxi, and headed for a new destination for a little excursion. Upon arrival, Shinya stepped out of the cab, and took in the sights and sounds of the new area he now stood in. "So these are the Ruins of Alpha, huh? Tch. They sure don't look like much, but somewhere under all this dirt and rocks is my ultimate prize, but first, Im gonna need the right tools for the job."
Shinya followed the signs posted all around, heading into the cave containing the famous dig site of these ruins, hoping to find some archeologists inside who'd be willing, or unwilling, to give Shinya some digging tools to use. Like always, Shinya didn't care if he had to take something he wanted by force if need be, as it was actually kind of fun for the Team Skull grunt to do so. On his way in, the one and only thing on Shinya's mind was the ultimate prize he mentioned before. A fossil containing the DNA of a Bug type Pokémon from the ancient past. The Claw Fossil, which Shinya knew very well was the fossil needed to revive the Pokémon known as Anorith. Shinya had only ever seen the old shrimp Pokémon in pictures, but he knew that ancient Pokémon were about as rare and as tough as Pokémon came. It was also one Pokémon that even Shinya's big bro, Guzma, was never able to get his hands on, and Shinya more then jumped at the chance to one up his big bro, despite his level of undying respect for him.
Naturally, given how rare it was, Shinya knew very well that his chances of finding a Claw Fossil even in a place like this were slim, but that only made Shinya want to get his hands on it even more. The thought of one day having a powerhouse like Armaldo on his team made Shinya's grin grow even bigger, as he felt like he might explode with excitement. But at the same time, Shinya also knew how expensive it was to set foot in these ruins, so he really hoped that his first visit to these ruins would be the only visit. The trainer from Alola soon heard the sounds of digging, and made his way towards it, coming upon a lone archeologist. An elderly looking man with glasses, and plenty of gear from the looks of it. The elderly man was so distracted by his work, that he didn't notice Shinya until he spoke up, walking over, grabbing a bag of digging tools, then proceeding to walk further into the cave. "Im barrowin this stuff. Thanks a million old timer."
The old man then finally snapped out of his little world, nearly having a heart attack when the silence of the cave was broken by the voice of an unknown trainer out of nowhere. He quickly turned towards Shinya, and adjusted his glasses, doing his best to regain his composure. "Now wait a second young man! Who exactly are you? What are you doing here? And do you even know how to use that equipment?" The old man was very frantic, as Shinya kept getting further and further away, not bothering to stop and listen to the archeologist for even a second. Shinya responded by first letting out a sigh, using his pinkie finger to dig was wax out of his ear, then flick it aside. "Arceus, your loud. The name's Shinya Stinger, I paid to be here, and nope. But how hard can it be? I know what Im lookin for, and all I gotta do is dig through dirt. Ill bring back your gear when Im done, maybe. If I feel like it."
The elderly gentleman only had more questions and explanations to give after Shinya's response, but before he could get the words out, it was too late. Shinya turned around a corner, and was out of sight, making the elderly man look down and let out a sigh of his own. "Youth these days..." Now, Shinya was no stranger to digging, having done so many times back home in Alola. Whether it was digging for treasures washed up on the beaches, or sneaking around underground to avoid cops and other authority figures, such as the island kahunas. The Team Skull grunt walked for a good twenty minutes, looking for a spot in the caves that looked like it hadn't been dug into before. He soon stopped, having found a spot that he thought looked good enough, so he put the bag of tools down, grabbed one in each hand, and got right to work. "C'mon. Show me the Claw Fossil. Lets go." Shinya said things like that to himself over and over again as he dug through the wall of the cave, feeling his determination rise to new heights.
