Zephyr had signed up for the Bug Catching Contest in Goldenrod City's National Park, he was particularly fond of bug type pokemon but using them as training puppets would certainly prove helpful. Zephyr had caught a coach to Goldenrod City just to compete in the contest.
Zephyr walked through the gateway with a group of other trainers, none of them he noticed of course. To Zephyr everyone here was a stranger. Bugsy begun to address the plethora of trainers ready to compete in the contest, he reminded himself that Falkner had said that Bugsy was a much stronger gym leader then himself. Hopefully if Bugsy was watching the contest for long enough he would notice the Zephyr Badge on Zephyr's backpack and pick up that he would be a future challenger to the gym.
Once Bugsy had concluded his speech a number of contest staff came to each and every trainer competing in the Bug Catching Contest and took all of their pokemon off them bar one that Zephyr had chosen during sign-ups. His choice of course was Charlotte the Joltik, he hadn't really got to know her yet and this would be the perfect opportunity. The contest staff then gave Zephyr some Sport Balls and allowed him to start the contest. Zephyr placed the Sport Balls in his backpack and set off to start his run through this contest.

As the trainer hailing from Ecruteak jaunted off towards the tall grass in the hopes of finding a competitive bug to submit for the grand prize in the contest, it served as something as a precursor. This same mindset was also shared by the majority of other contestants and because of this, it meant the Bug type Pokemon that had been released for the contest were now exceptionally high in demand. Such a sudden boom in demand was enough to cause disruption through the many hives and nests of these creepy crawly insects as it meant that for most, they would either be tossed aside violently or hunted down for their valuable worth. For one Pokemon in particular however, this fear was almost doubly so. Although not rare nor uncommon by any stretch of the means, not to mention all that greater of a fighter, a particular property it boasted was enough to make it very lucrative to certain circles in specific. This Pokemon of course was none other than Paras. Given the fact it was the only Pokemon capable of growing an invaluable type of mushroom on its back that was in excessively high demand for not only its versatile medicinal properties but it was also delectably tasty meaning that many gourmet eaters were desperate to use it in their meals. Somehow fully aware of its value, the Paras looked around terrified as it scuttled around hoping to find some sort of burrow it could hide itself in and weather out the whole of this contest. However, due to how much panic the Pokemon was exerting, it meant that it rather absent mindedly had failed to see where it was going. Bumping into a sudden obstacle, the Paras scuttled back timidly as it looked up and had the greatest fright of its life. Quivering in cowardice, the Pokemon slowly looked up until it stared Zephyr in the eye. Was this trainer going to hunt him for his typing... Or worse? Encounter

Zephyr's attention had turned off Bugsy and the other trainers and now he was concentrating on the track in front of him. He had taken a moment to look at Charlotte his Joltik's pokeball and he had accidentally bumped into what looked like a Paras. Zephyr didn't want to capture it, but using it as a training puppet would certainly be helpful. Paras on the other hand looked terrified. Zephyr took one more look at Charlotte's pokeball,
"Run along Paras, unharmed for at least a while"
Chances are one of the other trainers would either be crazy enough to catch Paras which was a common pokemon in the Johto region or would use it as a dummy for some quick training for their pokemon. Ever since getting the run down from Bugsy about placings and such in the contest Zephyr's motivation drive had kicked in and he was determined to find a pokemon that would stun the judges.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

The Paras squeaked in terror, scrambling away as soon as the trainer gave it a chance. It breathed a sigh of relief as soon as it was far enough away, glad to be out of such a sticky situation. The Paras was one of the few Pokemon out here that would actually prefer to run away instead of sticking around to battle. Now out of the fray, the mushroom Pokemon scurried off, eager to find a hole to hide in until the event was over.
Unfortunately for Zephyr, not all of the Pokemon in the park were as willing to turn tail and run. Some were completely incapable of fleeing altogether. Not for an over-abundance of pride, mind you. No, they could not run because they simply did not have legs. One such Pokemon was attached to a tree branch high above the green-haired trainer, sitting silently as it waited rather impatiently for evolution. The yellow shelled Pokemon longed for the day when it would burst forth from its cocoon, spread its wings and take to the sky. Seeing Zephyr passing below, the cocoon Pokemon saw an opportunity to level up and evolve. Shaking itself back and forth, the Kakuna eventually managed to detach itself from the tree branch, landing on the ground right in front of the trainer.

Zephyr watched Paras scurry off into the distance. Zephyr had been kind enough to let Paras flee instead of using it as a training dummy. Chances were Zephyr was going to keep bumping into pokemon he deemed 'Useless', if that were to be so then training his pokemon up would be a top idea. Zephyr had chosen to bring Charlotte the Joltik in as his only pokemon to use, with that he released her out of her pokeball
"Hello there Charlotte. How about we test your skills out."
Charlotte looked around to inspect her surroundings, she noticed nothing of particular interest as she fixed her attention to her green haired trainer. Zephyr was shocked to see a Kakuna fall from a branch and land right in front of him. The poor cocoon pokemon had no legs and couldn't escape. Zephyr looked down to Charlotte, "Alright Charlotte, you have the perfect training dummy here. Now show me what you've got by using Thunderbolt!" Charlotte looked at the Kakuna, it had no chance of trying to escape this oncoming attack. Being so close to it's enemy would most certainly give Horsea an easy battle. Joltik's body became surrounded in yellow electricity and she then fired a beam of electricity from her body at the Kakuna.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

It was only after the Kakuna dropped down from above and was actually facing Zephyr that it realized that a direct confrontation might not be the best of ideas. It didn't really have an arsenal of attacks to unleash, and that Joltik was looking at it like it was a punching bag. The Kakuna barely had time to brace itself before Charlotte was stepping forward, electricity crackling across her body as she gave the cocoon Pokemon a disinterested stare. The electricity gathered at her head, and she fired a large bolt out at the Kakuna, hitting it directly and frying the poor creature.
But surprisingly, despite having such a devastating attack unleashed upon it, the Kakuna weathered the attack. Blinking slowly, the cocoon tried to think of an attack to retaliate. But since it didn't have limbs or a mouth to see, it was forced to resort to merely hardening its outer shell and waiting for the next deadly attack.

Kakuna was liked a fried bug when Charlotte's Thunderbolt attack connected with the cocoon creature's body. Zephyr and Charlotte had picked on the perfect training dummy, Kakuna had no possible way of retaliating offensively and was stuck with hardening it's outer shell. Again Zephyr's mind was two sided as he felt sorrow for Kakuna but also felt it was all for the best in terms of his Joltik's training. Charlotte wasn't so happy with herself, she had been hoping that it would only take one hit to finish Kakuna, sadly that wasn't the case.
"Wow Charlotte, what a show of dominance. Great work, now let's finish it off with another Thunderbolt."
Charlotte looked over to Kakuna who was dilapidated of health, without any limbs it was going to struggle immensely to dodge the oncoming Thunderbolt attack. At the moment Zephyr's mind was set that he was doing the right thing by using Kakuna as a training dummy for Charlotte. Joltik's body became surrounded in yellow electricity and she then fired a beam of electricity from her body at the Kakuna.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

As much as it willed it, the immobilized Kakuna could neither attack nor defend itself from the Joltik. It could only helplessly sit there as the Joltik's body crackled with electricity. The Kakuna braced itself for the pain as the spark of electricity shot from the electric spider's body and shot towards the cocoon Pokemon. If the Kakuna could scream, it would've. The shocks of voltage ran throughout its body, turning its vision black as the only thing on its mind was the excruciating pain of the Thunderbolt before it fell back to the ground, fainted and slightly sizzling smoke. Congrats! Wild Kakuna was defeated!Charlotte gained +2 Lvl, she is now Level 17! Before either Zephyr or Charlotte could move, a loud angry buzz hummed through the air. Zipping right out of a tree, a large beetle-like Pokemon suddenly appeared before the pair. The Illumise's face was full of anger as it faced Zephyr, its tiny hands flailing and the angry buzzing growing louder from it. It had seen how the Joltik had defeated the Kakuna ruthlessly. This Illumise couldn't allow anyone like that to just walk away unscathed. The Illumise made a slight beckoning motion towards the Joltik, inviting them to challenge it. Wild Illumise (Lvl 11) appeared!Encounter 3/5

Watching the Kakuna flail in pain from Charlotte the Joltik's most recent Thunderbolt attack wasn't what Zephyr had hoped to happen, but if he and his electric spider partner were to progress together then they would have to train and not let anything get in their way. Charlotte felt invincible after finishing Kakuna off, it had only taken two doses of her Thunderbolt attack to finish the useless cocoon pokemon off.
"Great work Charlotte, you made quick work of that one"
Charlotte turned and looked into Zephyr's eyes, the feeling of recognition from her trainer raised her confidence and happiness. The joyous moment for Charlotte was soon interrupted, Joltik turned around to see an Illumise zipping out of the tree, and the buzzing sound it was generating was growing louder and more annoying. Illumise clearly didn't look happy, maybe it had been watching the battle against Kakuna and felt sorry for the cocoon pokemon and was now going to try and do what Kakuna couldn't. Joltik turned back to Zephyr as if asking what they were going to do. Zephyr reminded himself that training was what they were here to do, and with that in mind he looked down to Joltik, "Alright Charlotte. Let's see if we can make quick work of Illumise just like we did to Kakuna. Use Thunderbolt on Illumise Charlotte." The buzzing noise that Illumise was giving off was really getting on both Charlotte and Zephyr's nerve's. Joltik's body became surrounded in yellow electricity and she then fired a beam of electricity from her body at the angry Illumise.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

The Illumise glared at Charlotte, determined to put a stop to this Pokemon's rampaging. Her wings buzzed noisily as she floated in the air, looking every bit like the fairy godmother come to defend her friends. She flew forward, intent on attacking the Joltik and showing the little spider a thing or two. But Charlotte was faster, and she let electricity crackle in her fur, building in intensity until her whole body hummed with electricity. Focusing the energy on the Illumise, Charlotte directed the electricity toward the bug. The charge arced across the air, zapping the firefly Pokemon and stunning it for a moment.
When the Illumise got back to her feet, she was a bit more wary of the Joltik. She felt leftover charge crackling in the air around her, and she could tell that this little bug was not to be trifled with. Opting for a non-offensive maneuver, the Illumise fluttered close to the Joltik, widening her eyes and giving her most innocent expression. The Charm attack worked, and Charlotte smiled slightly at the firefly Pokemon, hardly noticing her attack power dropping. How could such a sweet-looking Pokemon do any harm?
Battle! Wild Illumise | level 11 | Health : 34% (13/38 HP)Status : NormalAttack : A successful Charm VS Zephyr's Charlotte | level 17 | Health : 100% (49/49 HP)Status : -2 AttackAttack : A successful Thunderbolt ((OOC: Apologies in advance if these calculations are off. The two stat calculators that I normally use are both down, and the backup I found doesn't have 5th Gen. yet))

Illumise was much like her bug type comrades due to her type, but she was beautiful unlike most bugs as she looked like a fairy god mother. Previously Charlotte had shown her dominance with her Thunderbolt attack on Kakuna, and the same dominance was shown against Illumise as the powerful electric ball connected with the firefly Pokemon. Illumise lead able to withstand the Thunderbolt attack better then Kakuna had, although the firefly Pokemon had certainly taken a beating.
Zephyr was very much expecting Illumise to go on the offence, what the firefly Pokemon had done was seduced Charlotte with her glistening eyes and had lowered her attack stat with its charm attack. Zephyr was now considering how to hit back at Illumise, Charlotte could try to finish the bug type off with another dose of Thubderbolt or could attempt at paralysing with a Thunderwave attack. Zephyr observed Illumise and noticed that electricity still seemed to be crackling off the bug Pokemon. Zephyr was willing to take the risk and get Charlotte the Joltik to finish off Illumise, but it would certainly be a harder feat to achieve with Charlottes lowered defense.
"Altight Charlotte, lets try to end this. Finish Illumise off with Thunderbolt!"
Charlotte hadn't been able to feel her attack power being lowered by Illumise, Zephyr had been observing the battle closely and knew one rash decision may cost them in terms of a loss. Once again Charlottes body became surrounded with electricity and when she felt ready she shot the beam of electricity at Illumise.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

In a world where Pokemon carried around enough electricity to summon forth tens of thousands of volts and the remarkable ability to stun even an Indian Elephant, it was perhaps no surprise that the best type of bug zapper you could invest in was not from the local Pokemart. Instead, you may as well just venture out into the wild and find yourself a common as muck Mareep or even better yet, pick yourself a Joltik up from the local Unova Festival and watch as it feeds off the static electricity of creatures to put on an impressive lightshow. As Charlotte was invited to lay waste with another attack, the diminutive... And quite honestly, almost impossible to see little tick buzzed her body as she let out a huge outburst of thunderous electricity that zapped at the Illumise, causing its body to spasm violently. As the attack waned with the Joltik running out of enough power, the Illumise fell onto its back, as stiff as a board. That had certainly done the trick. Wild Battle
Illumise | _ | Level 11 | Health : 0% (0/38 HP)Status : KO'd ... Charlotte | ♀ | Level 17 | Health : 100% (49/49 HP) Status : Normal; Attack -2 Best bug zapper in the business
Weather status: Normal Victory!
Your Joltik fought courageously and levelled up! Charlotte grows 1 level and is now Level 18!Charlotte would like to learn the move Bug Bite. Delete a move for it? As the Illumise was suitably taken care of, it appeared that the bug catching contest had come to a sudden standstill. The cacophonous cries of the many bugs surrounding them in the tall grass had become noticeably silent and there was no sound of buzzing in the air from insects flying overhead. In fact, there were no sounds whatsoever aside from a slight breeze whisking its way through the grass. At a time like this, one would be forgiven to think that the contest itself had come to an end and that Zephyr was mistakenly carrying on. However, this sudden dead zone had been bought upon by the chaotic antics of all the other participants causing a stir and attracting attention in their neck of the woods. Or park in this case. As time marched on with nothing happening and giving time for the intrepid trainer to examine his surroundings, there would however be one sore thumb that stuck out of the scenic views. Just barely hidden by the side of the grass was an out of place helmet that clearly belonged to a set of armour. Why it was just sitting there was anyone's guess. Although, National Park hardly seemed like the place for medieval recreations. Despite the odd inclusion of it, there was something about it that just seemed to scream... Examine it. Was this a Pokemon in disguise of some sort? Encounter

Illumise went onto the list of pokemon that Charlotte had dominated in battle whilst in the National Park. Joltik was small but mighty, and a lethal weapon to say the least. Illumise had given it her best shot to try and stop Zephyr and his Joltik partner from what they were doing, but the power and determination from Joltik proved to much to stop.
"Great work Charlotte. As they say 'Another one bites the dust'."
With every win that Charlotte achieved she seemingly could trust Zephyr that little bit more then before, it was a good thing to know a trainer and pokemon could bond. Zephyr continued to walk along the dirt path with Charlotte the Joltik by his side. Zephyr had forgotten about his ill sense off caring for the wild pokemon that would accidentally meet them or purposely pick a fight, whilst in the National Park it was Zephyr's main aim to train. As Zephyr and Charlotte were walking along the dirt path, Zephyr noticed something peculiar. Nearby was a helmet hiding near a bushes. Zephyr was puzzled by the sight. "You see that to right Charlotte? Before we make a move, use Thunderwave to check if it is really only a helmet." There was all the possibility in the world that the helmet was really a pokemon disguised by the helmet and suit of amour. If it were only the medieval disguise that would make Zephyr and Charlotte look like a pair of buffoons to anyone watching nearby. The silence that seemed to radiate throughout National Park was so sudden and creepy. Maybe the contest had finished and Zephyr hadn't heard the siren to signal it was game-over for all participants.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]
