As some of you may know I absolutely loved Rareware back in the Nintendo 64 days and when I heard a new team was being created called Playtonic Games that was made up of Rare employees over the years including those from that period I got really excited. I love the Banjo Kazooie and Conker series and so I have been following this game for a while. Their recent Kickstarter managed over 2 million British Pounds and since they were still offering a Paypal backing I just had to back the game. I paid 15 pounds which was $24.24 after the conversion rate to get the PS4 copy and the special thanks in the credits as well as the free DLC when it comes out and I wanted to ask if anyone else is excited for the game and if so if you have backed it or not?

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your name when I play this.
Must admit, I am very much excited for this. Just hoping it doesn't turn out to be like a number of other failed kickstarters which don't deliver or at all.

That fear is one of the main reasons I usually do not back games but because Platonic is made up of so many ex Rare employees I just had Tom take the risk. I recently got my backerkit email with all of the goodies and submitted it. October of 2016 is going to be a very long wait for this one but if it is anywhere near as good as Banjo Kazooie the wait will be more than worth it.

I know this is old but since a bunch of stuff cropped up in the last year I hope no one minds me bumping it.
Preorders are now live and digital preorders come with the toybox+ demo. Backers will have a chance to upgrade to a physical version as well.
As for the game itself it looks wonderful. The Casino they showed off in the new demo looks fun and the first world has a lot of neat characters. I love the scientist lady. The cloud not being able to relieve itself is classic Rare humor, and the flower transformation looks cool. Not much of the ice world was shown but it looked neat as well. The Wii U version was cancelled but it comes out on the PS4, Xbox One,and PC April 11th. The Nintendo Switch is also getting a version but I do not know if it comes out the same day or not.

I'm very close to preordering this. I know they've ditched Wii U for Switch but as I don't plan getting a Switch anytime soon, i'm leaning towards PS4 but ehh... It'll feel a bit weird doing that.
It's looking really good though. Saw there was a trailer for multiplayer as well which doesn't look too bad. Really loving how it captures the Rare games aesthetic from the 90s.

The toybox demo is short but really fun. I made a video of it while testing out my headphones and though I need to turn up the mic next time it was really fun all be it short. What is essentially a Rare game being made on the PS4 takes a bit of getting used to as I played all their games on a Nintendo system but all things considered the controls are wonderful. Going up slopes can be a bit annoying but the rest of the time things felt fantastic and the demo runs pretty smoothly. If the final release is that well polished I will be a very happy backer. I heard the main story will have Co-op as well though I do not know if it will be split screen or online but split screen would be my guess. All in all the closer we get to release the more excited I get.

Now that it is out I figured I would bump this. I have fallen in love with this game already. It is super faithful to Banjo, Conker, and Donkey Kong 64 which in my opinion is wonderful as those games were my childhood and playing Yooka Laylee makes me feel like a kid again. Minus the minecart, retro games, and camera it is a wonderful love letter to the 90's platformers of yesteryear. It has gotten some mixed reviews as not everyone likes how faithful it is to those older games and they also do not like the youtuber Jontron being removed but if you were a huge fan of those games you will probably like it.
I recorded a 3 1/2 hour video on my PS4 of me playing parts of the first two levels so if anyone would like to check it out I will post the video in this thread. I do not talk very much at all but I do want to thank Mid, Tyger, and the others who popped in while I was recording it. I might just start doing videos of other games on the PS4 if I get enough requests for a particular game but I know I will do more Yooka Laylee videos.
Has anyone else gotten the game and if so what are your thoughts? I know a few of us are diehard old school Rare fans and I know a few others were planning on getting it. If only the Co-op was online instead of only local split screen but eh even with that in mind I am currently in love with this game.

OMG the talking is just like in Okami XD But a bit more pronounced, I dunno if I could handle that for a long periods of time haha.
It looks pretty sweet though... dang, I've missed this old style of play. I only got to play Banjo once or twice but it was much fun. Too bad I was at work when you were recording! Oh well, I'd certainly like to see more :3
