Sandy and Berry very soon found themselves in Cherrygrove, a city that Sandy may have visited once or twice since moving to the region. After getting Berry healed, the two decided to explore for a while. Cherrygrove wasn't a very big city, yet, there was certainly a lot more to see than what New Bark Town had to offer.
"Squirtle...." Berry was amazed by the the whole thing. The shops, the places to see, it was all very overwhelming, and exciting.
"Berry, don't get lost now." Sandy reminded her. Berry turned and gave her a quick salute, remembering only to keep maybe two feet max in front of the teen.
"Squirt!"
"Now," Sandy started, looking at her Johto map. "I know there's no gym around here, and the closest gym is in Violet city..should we keep going?" While Sandy tried to make that decision, Berry hopped around in front of her, looking at all the Vendors, and places she could see.
"....I think we should stay here a while...Berry really likes it here, and we only just arrived, after all..." She said to herself, putting the map away and letting Berry scramble onto her shoulder for a better look at things.

From the moment Sandy had entered Cherrygrove, she was being watched. She had caught the eye of a small catlike Pokémon. The creature decided to follow her for a while, studying the girls ability. The bond she shared with her Squirtle seemed quite nice and would definitely be a bonus.
Keeping a sharp eye on its target as it moved stealthily ahead, Skitty carefully planned its encounter. As the trainer neared a large street, filled with a few alleyways, Skitty closed in. The spot was perfect to test out the trainers skills. If she happened to be another disappointment, the feline could always make a run for it.
As she dashed through the smalls crowds, Skitty quickly overtook Sandy. As the trainer continued on, the normal-type jumped out in front of Berry, attempting to startle the Squirtle. Skitty was quite agile and appeared to take its battling very seriously. The cat Pokémon would definitely be a tough opponent and even happened to be Sandys first wild encounter. Maybe she could even expand her team...
A wild Skitty (Level 8) appeared!

Berry scrambled backwards in the feline's attempts to scare her. She toppled right into Sandy's legs.
"Squirtle..." She growled, standing up. Sandy stared at the pink cat pokemon a second, remembering how much she loved Skitty's as a child. It was also wild...she decided to give it a shot.
"Berry, come on!" She ordered. Berry looked away from her trainer and crossed her arms. Did she not see what just happened? The stupid cat made her fall over! Sandy frowned.
"Berry! Let's not act childish! If you really want payback, then get over here and fight." Berry though this over for a second, and figured Sandy was right. She jumped in front of her trainer to face the cat. Sandy smiled, glad that Berry understood.
"Berry, Bubble, now!" Berry jumped up and opened her mouth, a few shiny clear bubbles escaping it, their target was clear.

Skitty cackled slightly as it spun around in a small circle a number of times. It got quite the kick from startling the tiny turtle. It went back so far that if it wasn't for her trainer being right there, she would've gone back onto back and would've been completely vulnerable as she wobbled back and forth. Turtles have existed on this planet for an awfully long time, yet they still haven't evolved a an easier way to get off their backs if they somehow flipped over? This is why mammals rule! Berry was steaming in her shell right from the get-go, but Sandy wanted to remain a little more leveled headed than her Pokemon. Normally, that's how it should be with the trainer keeping their cool no matter what. That's what the best trainers do and that ever going look of confidence is what made trainers such a popular career choice among the young. So looking at the Skitty with awe and admiration, she ordered her Berry to attack with a Bubble! " You'd like that, wouldn't you?" is what you would imagine Skitty to say. Being true of being extremely serious about a fight, the wild pink fluffy cat wouldn't let the battle start without a classic opener... dashing straight at Berry with full speed, it leaped onto the Squirtle's shoulders and with its paws, smacked both sides of her cheeks at the exact same time before leaping back away to where it stood before. This caused Berry to give out a small whelp and fall directly back on her shell, unable to attack. The trainer and her Pokemon have just fallen victim to the classic move, Fake Out! "Squirtle..."Berry growled. This cat was getting on her nerves. Rattata back by New Bark town wasn't even halfly as annoying as this pink ball of fur. She wasn't about to let it get the best of her. Though she felt she wanted to give this feline a direct tackle straight to the face, she stood and waiting for Sandy to give her an order.
"Berry, try another Bubble, spin while you do it too! I know you want to use a Tackle, but it might not do as much damage to Skitty as we want it too!" Berry sighed, but obeyed the order, beginning to spin rapidly and releasing a stream of bubbles from her mouth as she did so. What was Sandy trying to accomplish?
That Skitty is fast, but if I don't give it a lot of room to avoid bubble, maybe it will hit... she thought as she watched Berry spin. She also kept a very close eye on the Skitty.

The idea was this: Make Berry spin around a lot while using Bubble, making the range spread out farther and harder to avoid. The only problem here with a move such as Bubble, not the most powerful water type move out there, is that this also spreads out the intensity of the attack. With Bubble, all the droplets collect onto one target. This becomes more intense with Bubble Beam. But when you go and spread it car out, you create gaps and not all of the attack hits the intended target... meaning it isn't hitting as hard and is weaker. A few bubbles found their way to Skitty, who just stood there. It had a bit of a face concerning disbelief; really? The bubbles made contact, but barely even made the pink kitty flinch. Sorry, but that was... just kinda sad. Skitty was not amused. It decided to skip an attack this round and just proceeded to cleaning off the bits of water that got to it; essentially, you get a free swing. Try again. "Squirtle!" THAT was an outrage to Berry. The stupid Cat barley even made a move to defend itself. She looked over at Sandy, who sighed.
"Sorry. I guess that works better with bubble beam...I saw mom do it once!" The Squirtle rolled her eyes, then turned to the feline. She wasn't about to let some pink fuzzy monster get the best of her.
"Alright, Berry, Let's go the old fashioned way, tackle!" Berry, relieved to hear her trainer didn't make another stupid move, sprang forward, rushing at the feline at full speed. Sandy hoped that would do a better job then her bubble idea did. Maybe she'd have a much better chance at trying a direct stream of bubbles later on in the battle, if She could weaken the Skitty some more.

Okay, so the wide spread Bubble attack didn't work out as well as one may have hoped. Jot a mental note down to work out the kinks of that move later... hey, new trainers make mistakes. It isn't something to be ashamed of, so long as we can do as we can to improve ourselves. So, now that Plan A didn't work, time for Plan B. Basic Tackle. Filled with some slightly rage over being made a fool of not once, not twice, but three times in a row, Berry was feeling frustrated and angry. So this pretty kitty thought it was better than her? Oh, she was going to show that cat! She was going to show that cat up BAD. This issue of a Tackle attack was more than pleasing to hear, using brute force and aggression to strike. Luckily, this was a good call to make! When Berry launched herself at Skitty for the attack, it hit hard! Critical hit! Skitty wasn't done yet. Despite being sent flying, it braced itself against a lamp post nearby and landed on all fours back on the ground. It grinned: That was more like it! No more foo-foo play time moves, time for the real deal! No hesitation in its actions, Skitty returned the favor by slamming into Berry with its own Tackle attack. This strike, however, wasn't a critical one. Nonetheless, it was a clean hit that rocked Berry a bit. Berry tried to quickly recover from the tackle attack she was given in return. However, she sent a smirk in the Skitty's direction, then stood still and waited for orders from Sandy. Sandy thought again. Maybe she could try a bubble. It was worth a shot. A full on Bubble was certainly better than her earlier spinning plan.
"Berry, use Bubble again!" Berry looked back at her a moment, and it was Sandy's turn to roll her eyes.
"No, no, not the silly spinning one, full on!"
"Squirt." Berry thought that was certainly better. She knew Cats didn't exactly take well to water...poor thing would get its fur all mussed up. Perfect. She could have thought of a pretty good pun for that 'Perfect', but she let it slip. Exhaling deeply, she blew several clear bubbles into the Skitty's direction, blowing as much air as she could out, so the bubbles would go at least a little faster.

Berry took in everything her trainer was saying. She just had to focus her attention in one spot. This would be less strain on her as she wouldn’t have to use that much energy. Skitty may have been agile, but Sandy seemed confident that the Squirtle could pull it off. She was doing well so far so she just had to keep the same pace up.
With Sandy’s voice still ringing in her head, Berry took in a huge breath of air. After carefully aiming at her attack, the Squirtle fired a powerful spray of Bubbles. The water-type’s move pelted against Skitty’s tiny body. The feline was blown backwards on impact. Berry’s eyes followed the Skitty as it rolled backwards into a wall.
Shaking off its soaked coat, Skitty picked itself up off the ground. The normal-type was pleased with her opponent’s strength. This battle was really tough, but she wasn’t going to back down. She rushed straight into a Tackle of her own. She crashed heavily against Berry’s body, but the Squirtle’s shell helped her to withstand a lot of the damage. Skitty quickly retreated to avoid maximum damage from Berry’s next attack.

Sandy sighed. The Skitty looked tired, and she was glad to see that Berry was holding out so well. She was trying to make another hard choice. Should she throw the poke ball or not? Skitty might still have energy to break free, but at the same time, she was confident the cat barley had any energy left at all. However....maybe just one attack...to assure that she had the cat in the bag....so to speak.
"Berry, tackle for good measure!" Berry glowered at the cat, taking great discomfort in the fact this feline may be her newest team mate soon. However, she wasn't about to be one to disobey orders, so she rushed Skitty, ready to engage it in a tackle.

Berry could see it in her trainer's eyes. Sandy wanted this Skitty and she wanted it bad. This did not go over well with the young turtle at all. What does a Skitty have over a Squirtle? Well, it is soft, fluffy, cute, cuddly, playful, energetic... but what does Squirtle have? It can swim and is PROBABLY stronger than Skitty... but who would get more attention? Skitty. As far as Berry is concerned, she is the one and only Pokemon for Sandy, nobody else. If this pink furball were to join the team, Berry would have to make sure she remains as Sandy's favorite. " Squirt-squirtle!" she trumpeted to the skies above. To make sure remains the favorite, she was going to do whatever she could to make this Tackle look as impressive as possible. With fists pumping and deliberated steps forward to give an extra bounce, Berry ran at Skitty. Jumping up and performing a sort of belly flop on top of Skitty, she thought she was looking pretty cool. Skitty wasn't ready to call it quits just yet. Sure, it may have sustained damage, but like hell it was going to quit that easily! Skitty jumped up while under Berry's shell to push her off, spatting the turtle in the process. Berry was then tumbled over on her back again and struggled to get up. The pink cat now took the chance while it was able and leaped up to deliver its own Tackle to Berry's exposed belly. The impact momentarily knocked the wind out of Berry, delaying her process of getting back up. Sandy blinked at her Pokemon, wondering why she seemed to be putting on a show all of the sudden. Pokemon were strange, but maybe she'd find out the reason later. Chuckling slightly at Berry's antics, she pulled a Pokeball from her bag and pressed the button on it, making the small sphere bigger in her hand.
"Ready Berry?" Berry gave a simple shrug, she didn't really like this Skitty, but if it was going to be on the team, well that was Sandy's choice.
"Pokeball, go!" She lined the Sphere with the Skitty in front of her and tossed it. Hey, who knew? Maybe the result would actually be good.

Sandy was over excited about the thought of catching not only her first Pokemon, but a Pokemon she greatly desires! Berry wouldn't give a floppin' Magikarp over the whole ordeal. And Skitty? Despite all the injuries it has taken from this, it still seemed rather excited and energetic. It was running around in circles, chasing its own tail, for crying out loud! Lay off the sugar! The young trainer couldn't wait her turn: She had to get that kitty cat NOW. With the Pokeball up and ready to go, Sandy judged her aim and tossed it! Unfortunately, her pitch was a little off and landed elsewhere, giving a hallow "ping" sound when it crashed. Skitty, being prone to chase anything that moves, saw the Pokeball right away and gave chase. It caught up with the Pokeball and started to paw at it. It then climbed on top of it and was balancing perfectly! How cute! Berry gagged. Skitty was having fun on the Pokeball, maybe even more fun than what it had in the battle! It walked around on top of the ball, causing it to roll around. For about fifteen seconds it continued this adorable little act before the button on the ball rolled its way to the top and Skitty stepped on it without noticing. In the next instant, the pink kitty was gobbled into the Pokeball like it was a Jelly Belly! The capture capsule then proceeded to shake around on its own for a moment or so, then finally stopped with the red button going docile, indicating the lock has been set. Excellent! You've caught your first Pokemon, Skitty! SkittyName:Scatter Gender: Male Level: 8 Attacks: Fake Out, Tackle, Attract, Sing Ability:Cute Charm Nature/Personality: Scatter is a big attention hog. Often, he'll attempt to show off for his trainer, leading him to do silly things that don't go over well with the other Pokemon on his team. Berry particularity gets fed up with him very easily. He pften comes into battle when Sandy doesn't want him too, appearing from his pokeball before she can call out the Pokemon she really wants to fight with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sandy watched as the Pokeball came to a halt in it's rocking motion. Was Skitty really caught? She walked over to the Pokeball, Berry close behind her. Cautiously, the young trainer picked up the shere, turning it over her hands, and half expecting the cat to come bursting from the confines of the object. After a good minute went by and nothing happened, she looked down at Berry. "I think I'll call him Scatter." Berry shrugged upon hearing the name. As long as this 'Scatter' didn't try and take her place, she'd be just fine with it. Sandy let Berry climb on her shoulder before heading to the Pokemon center for a good rest. The next day was sunny, like the last, and she headed out first thing in the morning, deciding that she really wanted to explore the streets of Cherrygrove more before taking her leave and heading to Violet city. The city was interesting after all, so she had no doubt there might still be more to do before she left. Berry still enjoyed the sights about as much as she did the day before. "Squirt Squirt!" She ran around Sandy in circles before climbing up onto her shoulder. "Well, you certainly are energetic today." Berry nodded. "Squirtle!"" The second Pokeball around Sandy's waist opened, and the white light materialized in Scatter's tiny form. "Nya Nya!" Sandy looked down at the feline, confused at why he would call himself out. Berry rolled her eyes, and hopped off Sandy's shoulder so she could bend down to Scatter's eye level, or as close as she could get at least. "Scatter, I didn't send you out." She said nonchalantly. She had to wonder if something was wrong. "Nya Nya..." The Skitty pulled his ears back, trying to look cute while he put on the saddest show he could. Berry wasn't amused. How she wanted to tell Sandy that this cat belongs in a drama club, but she wouldn't understand her. So, she merely stood by and watched the feline's show. "You felt...alone? Is that it?" the feline gave another sad cry and a nod. Berry could have sworn she was going to be sick. "Don't worry, I guess you can stay outside your Pokeball for a while, with us." Scatter was delighted with himself, perking up his ears and wagging his tail. "Nya!" Berry meanwhile, couldn't believe that actually worked as Sandy scooped the Skitty into her arms. Scatter certainly approved of the comfy new spot. "Come on Berry." Sandy's voice rang. Berry slapped her forehead. The girl had no idea she had just been tricked. Even so, the turtle followed along after her. This was going to be a long journey if she had to spend the rest of it with that stupid cat.
