Being the competitive sort, things like this were right up Rhoan's alley. Plus, it gave Rhoan a bit of time to check out the Pokemon around this part of the region in Goldenrod (she was so illustriously transported via Rocket van) and train up a bit. Cayzle was released beside her, eyes wide with excitement at all the people around the outskirts of the grassy patches. His feathers were a bit ruffled, knowing he'd be battling some more in this new form, but he was excited none the less.
Jesus, calm the hell down. Rhoan whispered down to him, folding her arms. Cayzle did the same, clipping his claws together with nervous clicks. Rhoan bit her tongue though, she couldn't really stifle her excitement either. She didn't really think she'd catch anything, she just wanted to train Cayzle up for a bit. After all, the entirety of the Pokemon in this area were bugs, who would fall quickly to Cayzle's flying and fire. She glanced across the line but didn't see too many people that stuck out. Let's just get this over with. Rhoan stepped out of the line and darted off with Cayzle, who followed with excited chirps. [/blockquote]

Considering the sort of experience Rhoan had back in the Oblivia Region, it was perhaps a prominent advantage she had over the other not so expert hunters. Darting forward into the tall grass as she separated off from the rest of the competition, her flaming fowl was in hot pursuit as the two began to scour the unkempt grass for any signs of something to reign in and perhaps use as a submission in the contest. Or perhaps... Burn to a cinder if it didn't quite meet their high expectations. Fortunately, they would not have to wait too long as a Pokemon would accidentally present itself to them. Having been knocked about by the sudden rustle of chaos from the other park denizens, a knocked over Kakuna was laying angrily across the floor. Having tried rolling back and forth as well as trying to wriggle its immobile body with a series of jumps, the metamorphosing bug was incapable of getting back up on its tip. Realising that in such a state it was likely that a rogue stamp of someone's foot could spell a sticky end, the Kakuna kept its eyes sealed tight as it concentrated as hard as it could to make its body a hide of iron. Sadly, this didn't make the Pokemon invisible and as Rhoan grew nearer, it would be up to her whether or not she was quick enough in the reflex department to avert herself from tripping up over it and making something of a fool out of herself. Thankfully the grass did provide some cover if such an event were to arise. Encounter

(Museless and tendonitis filled, but I gotta post. Sorry for length)
Rhoan huffed and jumped, merely avoiding the Kakuna as it struggled to get back to its upright position. When the ginger turned, Cayzle crossed his arms curiously. Kakuna wriggled and wobbled, but it had fallen down, and wasn't going to be getting back up soon. Besides, they were a dime a dozen. Guess we'll get a bit of training in. Use your Ember on it, see how it goes. She said, taking a few steps back. The fowl ruffled his feathers before spewing flames from his beak.

Being completely mobile, the Kakuna knew a helpless situation when it saw one. It had spent many years merely observing its surroundings, watching and waiting for the day it would evolve. It had seen many battles and knew many secrets. Yet, ironically, none of those methods of attack or escape would work here. The cocoon Pokemon lay angrily on the ground, watching with growning rage as Cayzle approached. It just wasn't fair.
Cayzle, on the other hand, was bored out of his ever-loving mind. All the bugs they'd encountered so far were weaklings that hadn't lived up to Rhoan's expectations. The Combusken had a feeling that this bug would be a disappointment as well. Sucking in a deep breath, the fowl filled its lungs with air, igniting it just as he exhaled, shooting tiny flames at the Kakuna. Every single Ember hit. It was no fun to hit a stationary target.
The Kakuna let out a high-pitched keening, hating itself for being so weak. If only it were a Beedrill... if it were a Beedrill, it would be able to lash out, to attack, to strike back at those who would pick on the weak. Hissing in frustration, the Kakuna was forced to use the only move it knew: Harden. It focused on its own energy, hardening its own shell in a vain attempt to outlive the next attack.

It was no fun with a stationary target, but what could she do?
The way she saw it, the evolutionary stones and prizes were something worth while, so why not just catch every Pokemon she came across if it was better than this Kakuna? An idea she figured would at least help her win, which wasn't exactly what she came for, but what the hell, why not? Cayzle prepared for another attack, but Rhoan snapped, dragging his attention away from the hardening pod. Gonna catch it. If not, we'll just try again. It's not like it'll harm us. Rhoan scoffed, throwing the Park ball at the stationary sideways Pokemon. [/blockquote]

Cayzle was dying to attack the helpless Kakuna, but he held himself back, obeying Rhoan's command. Really, this was all a breeze, and he was sure that even if they caught this training dummy, they'd find something else for him to wail on. Contented with that fact, the Combusken stepped back, watching the ball arc lazily overhead. He pondered how exactly an immobile creature like this bug could escape the ball. Didn't you have to be able to move to escape?
The Kakuna was thinking the same thing, ironically enough. It felt a shred of terror as the ball came soaring over to where it sat, watching helplessly. The Kakuna could handle defeat, but capture? It would not be able to live with itself if a human caught it before it could fight back properly. The cocoon Pokemon felt the dull thunk of the Pokeball bouncing off its side, and felt an odd weightless sensation as it was dragged into the ball. Raging silently, the Kakuna forced itself to thrash about, putting all its might into escaping the ball.
A flash of light engulfs the Pokemon, sucking it inside the red and white orb. Snapping shut, the Sport Ball falls to the ground. Rhoan waits in anticipation as the Sport Ball rocks on the ground, the wild Pokemon struggling to escape. ... The Sport Ball twitches once... ... Twice... ... A third, violent shudder rocks the ball before... A red light flashes on the middle button and the ball is still! Congratulations!Kakuna joined the party has been captured! Rhoan didn't bother with a nickname. The Sport ball had done it's job of capturing the bug, and now she had something to enter the contest with, if she so chose. Hopefully there'd be something out there though. Good job, Cayzle. Shall we? She asked, moving right along within the grass, this time a bit slower in hopes of not almost tripping over something. Besides, she could take her time. The others were riling up the smaller Pokemon, so perhaps she had a better chance of finding something big. Of course, she would probably keep it for herself. Or, if possible, sneak all the Pokemon she captured away and give it to Rocket. Granted, she could always sell them. All these wonderful possibilities of breaking rules, Rhoan loved it. She had to admit though, if she wanted to win, she'd have to do it fair and square. But she wasn't against restraining a Pokemon down for Cayzle to hit and then capture. [/blockquote]

While Rhoan was willing to cheat to get the Pokemon she wanted, it seemed that she wouldn't have to. Fate was smiling down upon the hunter that day. Or perhaps it was because she was taking her time instead of rushing off, guns ablazing. Either way, her cautious movements attracted the attention of a certain Pokemon. The predator stalked her from the tall grass, blending perfectly in with the scenery and watching her every movement. Cayzle shifted slightly, feeling a slight sense of unease as he heard a rustle in the grass. He felt as if something was watching them from afar. The Pokemon that was trailing them chose that moment to strike, darting out from the grass with the raptor-like screech. A Scyther landed before Rhoan, its sickle-like claws raised in a challenging pose.

It took Rhoan a bit to realize that something was indeed watching them. She glanced about, but the tall grass was perfect for the bugs hiding about in the area. She cursed, she hated being trapped like this. Cayzle wasn't as happy about it either, getting antsy. It wasn't until she heard the screech from behind did she see what it was, a Scyther! The prize of prizes here at the competition. What luck! She turned to Cayzle, who was staring at her, oddly. When the Scyther jumped out, Rhoan had gotten into her offensive pose.
She shoved her hands in her pockets angrily. Fine, we do it your way. Peck it. She growled, and Cayzle looked dumbstruck. Why Peck? Rhoan caught on and pointed at the Scyther. Your Peck is going to do less damage than your Ember. We want to catch it as strong as possible so we can win this. She snarled, and the Combusken nodded his head in understanding. He then ran forward, beak ready for a nice peck. [/blockquote]

The Scyther let loose a gleeful cry as Cayzle ran forward, glad for the challenge. But while the Combusken was fast, the Scyther was faster. Gripping the dirt with its clawed feet, the bug shot forward, its speed further aided by its wings as it buzzed them slightly to move faster. In a flash, the raptor-like bug was in front of Cayzle, swinging its claw through the air. Before the Combusken could react, the Scyther had delivered a restrained slash across his chest, leaving a shallow cut in its wake.
Cayzle yelped, but was quickly on the offensive. Leaping back from the attack, he quickly changed direction, snapping his head forward and aiming his beak at the Scyther's body. While this thing might be good at dodging, he knew that if he aimed for its center, it wouldn't be able to move out of the way fast enough. And Cayzle was right. His Peck attack hit dead-on, and the Scyther screamed in pain, leaping away to put some distance between it and the Combusken.

So, her plan was going to work.
The best way to win this was to catch the rarest, strongest Pokemon. Scythers and Pinsirs in here were set to be a lower strength, but they were rare. So... catching one at a high health was the best choice. Cayzle could take the pain, so why not, eh? Sit tight, get battered up for a bit, but.. hopefully this'll be done quick. Rhoan grunted, and Cayzle shrugged, setting himself in a defensive stance against the Bug. Despite it's looks, it would be a tough opponent. Rhoan pulled out one of the park balls and tossed it at the bug, hoping for a stroke of luck, which she seemed to be lacking lately. [/blockquote]

As the Sport ball flew through the air at the oncoming Scyther, it tried to slash at it with its claws, trying to stop the projectile. However, as it hit one of its dagger like hands, the sport ball soon opened as it enclosed the bug Pokémon with it in a flash of red light. Once the Scyther was in side, the next part came as the ball dropped to the ground. It seemed to be having a hard time in keeping the Scyther in side. As it wiggled once….slowly a third time…however the third time it could not contain the Pokémon. It was released into the air as the pokemon appeared again on the battle field. Scyther hissed back at the trainer already starting to get a bit agitated towards the battle. The Scyther ran forward seeing this as an opportunity, while the Combuskin had not made a move to attack, the bug Pokémon did. Being that it was at a heavy disadvantage with the fire and flying type moves, it sprang forward as fast as it could go. The Scyther narrowed the distance between the two Pokémon and struck Combuskin with a sharp quick attack. Cayzle stumbled back as the attack came without much of a warning, but it wasn’t long before the fighting fire type Pokémon manage to regain its footing on the ground. You failed to capture the wild Scyther! Sport balls remaining x13

Rhoan watched, boredly. This battle was getting a bit dry. She knew she could destroy the Scyther, but she needed it alive and kicking. She'd get it, even if she had to run out there and tackle it herself to hold it down. She turned her attention to her fowl partner. Endure it, kiddo. She called out, throwing yet another park ball in the direction of the Scyther. If she needed to, she could heal up Cayzle and go on from there. But the prizes were something she needed desperately, so why not endure it? [/blockquote]

The Scyther was certainly a stubborn one; it looked like it refused to be captured at this rate, and was getting angrier at Rhoan. The Sport ball came again, after being tossed into the air. And just like before, the pokeball encased the wild bug Pokémon in a flash of red light. It wasn’t long before it dropped down onto the ground, bounced twice before landing in the patch of dirt. However, just like before the Sport ball shook once, twice….but on the last one it reopened again as the capsule disappeared. The Scyther retook its place on the battle field and hissed back at Rhoan. The trainer didn’t seem at all frightened by the bug Pokémon and was starting to get just as annoyed. With retaliation it came down towards the Combusken with another attack. The Scyther came running just as it did before and went into a blur of speed. It soon came down to where Cayzle stood and struck the Combusken. But it refused to move and hardly did, it endured it just as Rhoan had called out. Though the Combusken felt the hit, it could certainly stand around for a few more turns. It just needed to hang in there long enough so the Scyther could be caught. You failed to capture the wild Scyther! Sport balls remaining x12

This was getting annoying, but the contest was coming to it's close. Listen here bug! Rhoan's tone made the Combusken at her side jump with a bit of a fright. The Scyther tilted it's head in her direction. You just get caught, you hear? This thing is almost over and i'm GOING to catch you, whether I have to beat you to a pulp first, or not. I NEED that reward, got it? She snarled, whipping out yet another park ball to toss at the victim of choice. The Combusken sighed and crossed his arms. We'd be here a while if it weren't for Rhoan wanting to win. She didn't care at first, but now with the ticket in front of her, perhaps she did like winning more than she let on. [/blockquote]
