Name: Gwen Merbella
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Trainer Type: Loosely based off the female Artist class in Pokemon X and Y.
Hometown: Couriway Town in Kalos. She and her family moved to Olivine in Johto because of her father's job.
Appearance: Gwen has straight, bright-orange hair that comes down to her shoulders. She likes to keep it back in wide headbands, although that doesn't stop random wisps from coming free. She's very proud of her hair color, and she want to get purple highlights just to be "creative." Her skin is a little tanned, and she's average height. She's also well-built from spending most of her time outside climbing mountains. Her hometown Couriway was surrounded by small waterfalls, and Gwen would often climb the cliffs with her easel to paint.
She doesn't care about her clothing as long as it's colorful. She loves neon and pink, and she often wears artistically clashing colors or designs - i.e, green-striped pants with a flowery pink shirt. She loves fancy scarves and flashy earrings. She tends to doodle on herself when she's nervous, so her pants always have little marker scribbles on them. She likes sturdy, dark boots, despite the rest of her outfit being very showy and bright. Gwen has no reservations on wearing halter tops or bikinis.
Personality: By no means a girly girl, Gwen is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She loves camping, nature, and sports. However, she has a deep appreciation for pink and colors of all kinds. Most people assume she's a bookworm or nerd, since she stays inside painting instead of being active. At school, she's joined soccer teams and art clubs alike. She's very charismatic, making her one of the popular clique. She has a flair for the dramatic, and sometimes she overreacts when she's awed or excited.
Gwen is energetic bordering on hyperactive and a relentless optimist. When she's focused on a painting is pretty much the only time she's serious and quiet. Despite her obvious love of art, Gwen has only completed seven major works in her life, usually some kind of landscape. They take a long time to finish and take up a lot of Gwen's energy, hence why she prefers doodles instead. She's very friendly and curious; if she meets someone new, she's been known to drag them off to a coffee shop to get to know them. Her directness can be a little rude to others. She also definitely has a stubborn streak when it comes to defending others or being right. She's not very interested in religion or morality issues. Despite her apparent excitement and naivete, she's very down-to-earth.
History: She became fascinated with painting at an early age. Her grandfather, an Artist visiting from Camphrier Town, had a Smeargle, and the two of them taught her art every time they visited. On their last trip, Gwen's grandfather brought her a collapsible easel, and she carries it everywhere in a white backpack spotted with paint. Her father moved to Olivine for a work opportunity - he helps as a sailor and does much of the heavy lifting, while Gwen's mother cooks at a restaurant part-time and takes care of her eight-year-old sister Simone. Gwen and Simone are very close, but the latter is a dancer. She prefers ballet to paint and is therefore very prim and proper. Gwen, the wild child, gets into many arguments with her.
Gwen was happy in Couriway. She had a lot of freedom to roam around the area, as well as the surrounding nature. She loved sitting near or climbing the waterfalls; she went on several expeditions into Terminus Cave, and once she got so lost she found herself in the heart of the cave. It was completely empty except for a green scale. Gwen still isn't sure what it is, but she carries it with her for inspiration and good luck - (she doesn't know, but it's a scale from Zygarde, the legendary occupying the cave.) Since she moved to Olivine, she's been restless and definitely not as happy. The kids at her school, while not mean, are much more dour and proper, and they're a little baffled by her sense of style. Still in the process of making friends, Gwen spends most of her time at the lighthouse or watching the ocean. She badly misses Kalos, though she still hasn't lost her cheerful personality.
Unlike many kids, Gwen was never interested in Pokemon training. She loved adventure, true, but she didn't like the idea of roaming the entire nation. Her favorite Pokemon type is Normal, thanks to her grandfather's Smeargle, and her only preference for Pokemon is a very colorful team. She likes bright Pokemon like Scrafty or Masquerain. She has no preference over cute, cool, or scary; her only requirement is COLORFUL! If she ever went on a journey, her main priority would likely be to see the sights and get great inspiration and memories. Gwen doubts her ability to control bigger, stronger Pokemon. However, since moving to Olivine Gwen has been a little restless and unhappy. She's decided to apply for a trainers' license and her first Pokemon.
Goals: To get along with her first Pokemon as well as possible. Gwen still isn't sure how many Pokemon will end up on her team, but she wants them to be strong enough for her to make a circle around the region and see as many famous sights as possible. She's already made a goal to try and have each Pokemon be a different color. To keep her Pokemon fit, she'll definitely challenge each gym as she passes through the town. After her journey is complete, she'll either go home with her Pokemon or continue to wander the region.
Other Info: Habits/Mannerisms: Gwen is turning nearsighted, although she hasn't told anyone yet. Therefore, she has the tendency to squint at whoever's speaking or ask other people to read signs. She doodles when she gets nervous as a way of calming herself down.
