"It's impossible, when your pokemon don't know Flash."
He was talking to no one, really, because he couldn't see anything. He was frustrated. He was beating against the walls of the cave, vengeful now for falling, collapsing, hurting himself all night.
"I know caves," he insisted, now to the pikachu behind him. "I just need... a fkin... bomb. I just need to blast this wall out, and then the next one, and we'll be where we need to be."
He kicked the floor, madly.
"It's so dark in this cave."
"Pikachu..."
"Yeah, use Spark again. It works for one second -- it's giving me a migraine. I'm sorry, buddy, all I can see around us is walls. I think we're stuck."

He had letters, in his pocket. He had a lighter in his pocket, too, and he used the lighter to light cigarettes while he read the letters.
'Remember, my bearded friend, that happiness is a stepping stone.'
'Remember, Abbot, where you came from.'
'Remember who made you, Abbie.'
'I haven't heard from you in a while. I mean only to say that -- you're my brother, and I hate being distant from family.
'I... think we're going to be apart, now, for a while. I just -- get these sick feelings in my stomach, like I'm -- physically prepping myself for change. I'm going to be far, far away from you for a while. You're on your own, and so am I. You'll make friends, and so will I.
'I trust that you'll be well on your journey. I mean to say that -- be good, man. Don't forget where you came from. Don't forget who made you. I love you truly, deeply, honestly, and always.

The lighter wasn't enough to break darkness. It was enough to see hairs on knuckles, minutiae in rock formation, but it wasn't enough to see where the path stopped and where the wall started. The cave was a maze. It was a labyrinth, and it had collapsing floors which fell into secondary layers of earth. Abbie was lost, and it was impenetrably dark.
"EY," he called out. "I know you're there. Does anyone in this cave know Flash? How the fk do we get back to the first floor...?"
