RYU SPARKS "thought i'd try shooting my way out, mix it up a little" TAGGED: N/A | WORDS: 239 | NOTES: N/A Finally settled in, Ryu set out to the Pokemon lab with an expression of confidence carved into his face, almost giving off an aura of belief in himself. Strutting through the town with the sun high in the sky, feeling like the Earth moved beneath his feet with each and every step as he imagined himself the talk of the town. He felt like the bees knees today. He was finally getting his own Pokemon and starting his journey.
Staring at the doors, he took a deep breath and walked inside, flaunting his confident outlook as he decided upon his Pokemon. Squirtle. He chose Squirtle; he didn't know what it was but when he looked into the Pokemon's eyes he could feel the same confident fire in the Squirtle that he felt burning deep inside of his own soul. Not putting him in a Pokeball for now, he named the Squirtle Dribble after his father's Piplup from his very early childhood, and the two set out to start their adventure.
Stepping out into the light of day, the gleam of the radiant beams of light caught his eye and he walked forwards with his head held high. It was time to see what Dribble could do. Checking in his bag on his Heracross Egg his brother had given him as a parting gift, he walked towards the edge of town to see if he could spot any Wild Pokemon. credit goes to Lunar of GS & THQ

As Ryu stepped out onto route 29 a strange sounding noise came from a nearby patch of grass. It did not sound like anything that usually appeared in the area and before long the source of the noise jumped out of the grass and walked out in front of Ryu. It was a wandering Aipom who had been paying the route a visit and had been caught up in the recent hailstorm. They were a rare sight in New Bark Town most of the year but a swarm of them had recently come to town trying to find somewhere to hide from the hail which had been pelting the area for a short time after they arrived. The monkey had been hiding in the grass for a while but as the hail was still able to pelt the poor Pokemon it was going to look for somewhere else to hide when it spotted Ryu. Aipom was not too worried as most trainers had never seen an Aipom before and that lack of knowledge from most trainers would cause them to mistake them for a weak Pokemon and as such they were able to hold their own against most of the trainers who had just started out their journey however this Aipom was still a bit apprehensive of doing anything too rash that it may later regret. The monkey was still curious of the trainer as not many would venture out in such bad weather unless they were either very eager to begin their journey or crazy which neither one would be good news for it as both kinds of people would try to capture it. All Aipom could do was wait and see what Ryu would do next. A wild level 5 Aipom appeared. Please select a Pokemon. Ooc: 267 words added to the Heracross egg word counter. Hail will be in effect for the duration of the battle.

RYU SPARKS "thought i'd try shooting my way out, mix it up a little" TAGGED: N/A | WORDS: 207 | NOTES: N/A Stepping out onto Route 29, Ryu heard a noise which puzzled him. It was odd, and didn't seem like the usual rustling of a Rattata or the cooing of a Pidgey. Nothing known for this area, at least for him. Turning to the noise, he watched as a strange Pokemon walked out into view. "Woah... what's that?" He asked himself, observing it. It had a pale yellow face, with a stomach and feet of the same color. Small patches of it's ears also were pale yellow and it's fur was purple. It's tail bore a strange, hand-like shape on the end of it. He'd never heard of this Pokemon before so he hoped that it would be a good first experience for him and Dribble. "Alright Dribble! I choose you!" He shouted as he threw his hand forward, pointing directly at the strange new Pokemon with a fire in his eyes. "Dribble, Tackle him!" He hoped that the attack would hit, but with a hand-shaped tail and a thinner build he wouldn't be surprised if the first attack didn't affect or even hit the Pokemon. The hail was a factor too, but he didn't care much. If he could tough out the hailstorm, so could Dribble... right? credit goes to Lunar of GS & THQ

As his first challenge appeared before Ryu, the thick clouds which had slowly rolled in overhead began to chuck down small shards of hail, scattering across the ground whilst sparing no one in it's falling path. For a beginner, it wasn't the most convenient weather to travel or battle in but he was still prepared to do so. The cheeky Aipom, who had casually strolled onto the path, kept it's eyes focused on Ryu, wondering just what the trainer would do. With a flick of it's hand-shaped tail, it stared on with it's natural, blank smile as he pulled out a PokeBall, grasping it tightly in his hands. Tilting it's head to the side curiously, the Aipom turned to face the trainer fully, ready to accept his sparring challenge.
With a flick of his wrist, the trainer sent forward his starter, a Squirtle he had dubbed Drizzle. Emerging from the ball, the water type cringed as hail fell around him but for now, he was willing to put up with it as he was given an order to commence the battle. Looking over it's opponent, the Aipom wasted no time playing around. Drizzle appeared to have a thick shell so it just hoped that it's mighty tail would be able to smash through his defences. Moving onto it's tiny forearms, the Aipom moved first with surprising speed, dashing despite the constant flurry of hail striking it's purple body.
As it approached Drizzle, the Aipom used it's tail to perform a stylish leap into the air, spinning to the point that it's hand-like appendage spun forward, stubby fingers striking into Drizzle in a scratching motion. Flinching, the impact pushed the Squirtle backwards but it wasn't enough to knock him out just yet. Tensing his little blue arms, the Squirtle lunged for the landed Aipom, throwing himself forward and tackling the imp to the ground. All the while, the hail continued to pelt at them.

RYU SPARKS "thought i'd try shooting my way out, mix it up a little" TAGGED: N/A | WORDS: 212 | NOTES: N/A This hail was already taking it's toll on Drizzle, and Ryu knew already that if he didn't get this first battle over with quick, he'd lose and end up letting his new Pal get beat up pretty bad by something as simple as the weather. "You can do it!" He shouted for encouragement as he watched the engagement; The Aipom had jumped up and performed a scratch to injure Drizzle, and Drizzle had landed a successful tackle on the Aipom.
He thought back to what he knew about Pokemon battles, if anything at all could be remembered. His brother had taught him a little about type advantages, moves and a little bit of battle strategy that Ryu nearly never used.
Watching and thinking of what moves a starter would have, he tried to think of what to do next and realized his only real option at the moment was just to pelt the poor Aipom with tackles until it was weak enough to knock out or catch. "Again Drizzle! You can do it! Tackle!" Pumping up his little courageous buddy with his own sparks of emotional flame, his desire to win this first battle was peaking now. He wanted to catch this Aipom, or at the very least succeed in defeating it.

Aipom were known for their creative battle style as few other Pokemon relied so heavily on their tail to perform well in battle. Their tails were very strong for a Pokemon which did not typically rely on violence to solve their problems. It had surprised itself with the strength of it's Scratch attack in the first round but as it's opponent had only used Tackle it felt kind of bad that it was overdoing things. It wanted to have a fun time not defeat it's foe quickly and as Ryu seemed to be a new trainer Aipom hoped that he would not mind a prolonged battle. Even if the hail was a bit of a bummer it was not enough to stop the monkey from having fun. Aipom began to shake it's tail in a cute and silly manner trying to get Drizzle to lower his defenses while at the same time not cause any damage to the turtle this time around. Tail Whip was a well known trick Aipom would perform for the sake of increasing the humor of battles they participated in and this display was pretty humorous to the turtle as he began to chuckle at the sight. The monkey smiled as the turtle fell for it's trap as now it would have lowered defenses for the rest of this battle and be helpless should it decide to strike the turtle again. For now though it was still having too much fun. Drizzle finally got his act together as he heard Ryu's command and he began to run forward with a Tackle attack. The water type slammed into the monkey with everything it could muster and even with his best effort the monkey hardly flinched. Drizzle was understandably a little upset that his attack did not do very much and the hail hitting both Pokemon on their heads only made him that much more disappointed. Even if this round had not been the best for him Drizzle was still in pretty good shape all things considered and it was up to him and Ryu to find a way to win this battle before the hail could get the best of both Pokemon. RYU SPARKS "thought i'd try shooting my way out, mix it up a little" TAGGED: N/A | WORDS: 252 | NOTES: N/A The Aipom seemed to be a little remorseful for it's scratch, from the look on it's face. It had shaken it's tail in a cute fashion, causing Drizzle and Ryu both each not to take it as seriously and to be less on guard than usual. It was funny, and Drizzle had released from his belly an adorable and hardy chuckle, laughing for a little bit before shaking his own head and bringing himself back into focus. He stuck with his tackle and it succeeded.
Ryu smiled. "Alright!" He pulled his fist down from the air in a show of triumph, another successful hit. This Pokemon seemed like it was having more fun in the battle than Ryu was, which made him start thinking. It had used scratch before, which seemed like with training could be honed to be better. Tail Whip also seemed to be useful as a utility, and it was also something Squirtle used. It really just gave him ideas for his future with Drizzle, but a little tick in the back of his mind thought about throwing a pokeball at the Aipom and catching it.
Ryu needed to take Aipom out, and if he stopped Drizzle to make him lower the guard of Aipom with the same sort of silly gesture the pokemon had used on them, the hail would get the best of them without doubt. Stroking is chin for a second, he realized he didn't really have much choice besides the brute-force method at the moment. "Again! Drizzle, use tackle!"

The monkey Pokemon grimaced in pain, having to admit that the water turtle it was facing packed quite a punch in that Tackle attack. However, the Aipom could still muster enough energy and it was not going to be merciful on Drizzle this turn. The Aipom lept forward, using its large tail to push off from the ground high into the air. Then with a quick backtun, the fingers on the hand-tail flexed open, revealing claws that scored across Drizzle's mid-section. The whole thing happened so fast that the Squirtle could barely register until he felt the searing pain of scratch marks burn across his chest. Refusing to cry out in pain, Drizzle clench his teeth and kept his footing, waiting for the Aipom to descend back to the ground before making his move. Right at the moment the Aipom landed in front of him, Drizzle pushed off from the ground and hurled his entire body straight into the monkey. The Aipom let out a screech of surprise as the wind was knocked out of it, tumbling backwards from the sudden blow. Coughing and trying to maintain its breath, the Aipom struggled back onto its feet, fur ruffled and covered in bruises. The hail from above didn't seem to relent on the two fighters at all, aggravating their wounds as the icy rocks pelted down. Both Pokemon were breathing heavily, tottering on their feet as they neared the end of this match. RYU SPARKS "thought i'd try shooting my way out, mix it up a little" TAGGED: N/A | WORDS: 139 | NOTES: N/A This hail was causing too much trouble, and it seemed the lowered guard of Drizzle had lead to a devastating scratch from the Aipom. Ryu had two choices here, and only one decision. He could catch the wild Aipom with a Poké Ball, and train it or put it away in a box, or trade it to another trainer... Or he could keep fighting and most likely lose his first duel by knockout either due to the Scratch of that Aipom, or the Sting of the Hail pelting down from above.
Hesitant to lose his first battle, he made his decision, reaching into his bag behind his back and pulling out a Poké Ball. "Poké Ball, catch that Pokémon!" Ryu shouted, tossing the Poké Ball towards the Aipom and praying that the capture attempt would work, ending this battle.

Ryu made a gut decision of attempting to capture the wild Aipom in order to end the battle early. Both Pokemon were battling their hardest and with it, were whittling down each other to the point where their health was becoming dangerously low. With the inclusion of the hail hammering down overhead, the battle was made shorter and every attack accompanied by the hail teased the idea of a Pokemon being forced to faint sooner rather than later. Wanting to avoid this scenario, Ryu pulled an empty Pokeball out from his belongings and with a swift flick of his wrist, threw it forward, towards his opponent.
Locking onto the Aipom with the help of a built in homing device, the Pokeball soared through the air, it's path remaining straight despite the falling hail. Reaching the injured Aipom and tapping it on the head, the purple monkey was drawn inside with a flash of red light. Touching the ground with a slight roll, the Pokeball began to shake from side to side on the spot. This merely being the attempt of Aipom trying to break free, in the end, the wild Pokemon simply didn't have the energy left to resist. With a simple ting, the ball remained still... Ryu had successfully captured the wild Aipom!
