As Marchbaby regained his vision from the blinding light he found himself in a strange room. The walls were covered with hieroglyphs of Unown of which most of them did not make any sense. One section of the wall did a a pattern of them that did seem to be a puzzle of sorts however. " It looks like there is a puzzle for use to solve here if we want to find our way out. I know a bit about Unown however outside of them looking like the alphabet my knowledge is limited. This might just be a test to prove I am worthy to call myself a dragon apprentice. Let's see if we cannot find out the answer here." As he looked at the wall he slowly began to make out the letters.

" The first one looks like an F. So 4 more to figure out." Time seemed to travel slowly as he began to make out each individual part of the puzzle. " The next one is an L followed by an A. Just two more to solve and then we will see what happens." After a little bit longer he finally made out what letters the last two represented. " S and H are the last two letters. If they are in the correct order then the answer is FLASH. I think I have an idea as to how we can solve this puzzle but it will require Shocker's help in order to do so. Shocker do you mind helping me out for a moment?" The magnet Pokemon had no problem at all and was quick to offer assistance. Marchbaby was pretty sure he had the answer but this was the moment of truth.

" I believe if you use Flash on the wall it should solve the puzzle and we can move forward. Could you please use Flash and see if I am correct?" He said as the Magneton made it's way towards the wall. Lining up it's eye with the section of the wall with the puzzle Shocker blinked as it sent out a blinding flash towards the wall. The whole room was lit up by the move and then Marchbaby waited to see what would happen next. With how old the ruins were any puzzle set up within them would probably take a few moments to accept any answer and he only hoped he was right as he did not want to be trapped here for long.

Correctly working out the Unown hieroglyphics, Marchbaby had utilised his Pokemon's move Flash in order to get the room to spring to life. What had been a decrepit, lifeless crypt was now the complete opposite. The room bathed in an unnatural golden glow, the ruins representing Unown lit up with a blinding light of their own and flashed brighter before fading and repeating over and over. The atmosphere was magical to say the least. What's more was, where Marchbaby had deciphered the word FLASH from the wall, it seemed to be reacting in a manner wholly different from the rest of the room. Building up in suspense, the wall started off with a dim glow before slowly ramping up to match with the brightness shocked had emanated. Mere moments later, the brightness was blinding and it flooded the room with a powerful glare. As it did, a noise could be heard rumbling. By the time the light had subsided and visions were returned, the wall was no longer standing there.

Instead, two Pokemon that were no doubt inhabitants of the ruins, remained in the wall's place. Levitating their mysteriously, their eyes blinked in unison as they cried out an in unknown speech. Given Marchbaby's background as a dragon tamer and being linked with mysterious knowledge there was no doubt he would recognise these Pokemon to be Unown. They were a completely bizarre species, with some even decrying them as Pokemon and rather something else entirely. Pokemon or not, they had an exclusive link to the ruins of Alph that were situated in Johto. Many were unaware of their significance but they appeared to adorn the walls of the ruins. Specifically conveying messages or warnings to those who were able to decipher their code. Having worked out flash was needed in order to escape the room, they appeared as if disturbed by someone working out the answer to the wall's riddle. Speaking again in a wholly alien language, they appeared unwilling to move. Were they... Challenging Marchbaby to a double battle? Whatever the case, if Marchbaby wanted to proceed further in the ruins, they would need dealing with them.

Pleased to see his answer to the riddle was correct he was taken by surprise by the appearance of the two Unown. He had only read a bit about them but meeting real ones was a nice little surprise. Believing that he had been sent to the ruins by some mystical force for a reason he had a feeling in his gut that they would want to battle to prove he was worthy to go any further. He was new to the ruins and did not know of another way out so he did not have much of a choice. He had no real knowledge of how Unown battled outside of using a move involving a secret power they held and as such he struggled over which Pokemon he should use.

As much as he wanted to have Honeysuckle get a taste of battle he wanted to have her battle something that he had more experience with. Bonecrusher and Atropos on the other hand had not battled in some time however and given their strength he had a good feeling about using them however being a dragon apprentice he felt using a dragon type would only be right. " It is truly fascinating to see two of our species at once. Running into a single Unown would have been a neat experience but two is a fantastic treat. I have a feeling that as a dragon apprentice you are testing me to see if I am worthy to see what lies ahead. I happen to even have a young dragon I can use in the battle and a second Pokemo with the strength of a dragon. I do hope I can prove to you I am worthy."

As he finished speaking Bonecrusher and Goomy moved forward as Cannon Fodder, Shocker, and the others watched. Both Pokemon were pretty tiny unlike most of Marchbaby's other Pokemon but their loyalty and bravery more than made up for their size. Blubber was not a huge fan of fighting but being a dragon she could not turn away from a test like this. With both Pokemon ready to begin the battle Marchbaby was ready to take the test of his worthiness. " Bonecrusher I want you to use Iron Head on the Unown on the left while Blubber I want you to use Bubble on the Unown on the right. Let's see if we can pass this test without too much trouble." He said waiting for the results of the first round.

The bold Aron went ahead and used his Iron Head on one of the Unown. Running forward with his head shimmering from the sturdiness of steel, the steel type Pokemon's glossy head put the Unown F in a trance, who was watching the Aron's shiny head shining brighter, and brighter. Also the head was also coming closer, and closer, until the refined steel head headbutted onto the Unown, and knocking its alphabetical existence out.

Following her teammate, Blubber fired off a series of rainbow bubbles toward the other Unown, who had a curvier body shape on the side of its... eyes. The bubble pushed back the Unown H a bit. Thankfully, the move wasn't powerful enough to push the Unown to the end of the corridor. When the trainer's Pokemon were done attacking, the mysterious and surviving Unown summoned its inner out-of-this-world power. With its body glowing white and bright like the sun, the Unown blasted a beam of energy toward the Blubber. The Goomy opened her mouth, as if making a "huh?" face because she didn't feel that the attack was powerful enough to make her feel painful. It looked like Marchbaby was off to a good start.

After a stunning first round in which Bonecrusher handled his target with easy and Blubber seemed to do a considerable amount of damage to her Target Marchbaby began to think he may have overestimated the strength of the Unown. Though he was no genius about their species he had hoped they could prove to be a nice challenge but unfortunately they could hardly put a dent in Bonecrusher's armor and Blubber went unscathed as the first round ended with a lopsided result. If this battle was a test of some kind it was likely that of patience as it was growing thin fighting such weak Pokemon. Really discouraged by the lack of challenge in the battle Marchbaby could only hope the next round would be a bit harder to handle.

" I know Unown are mysterious however if this is all they can muster I am afraid this battle will be over really soon. I guess battles are truly not a part of their skill set. It may have been a good idea to use Honeysuckle in all honesty but it is too late to switch gears now that it is a two on one battle. I will be keeping my same Pokemon out this round and let's just hope this Unown is able to at least amuse us before this battle ends in a blowout." He said as Bonecrusher and Blubber looked at the mysterious Pokemon wondering why it did not just run off and save itself the beating it was about to receive once they were given an order to attack. Blubber felt awful for the poor thing knowing it was nowhere near as tough as expected.

The young dragon hesitated over the idea of attacking again as she could tell it was already su8fferomg however Bonecrusher was more than willing to have another go to end the battle and try to discover what lie beyond the wall. Scraping his hind legs into the floor of the ruins he was just about to charge into the remaining Unown to show off his power. Marchbaby was ready to end it was well as he was sure the normal type Pokemon had nothing left up it's sleeve by now and the sooner he could knock it out the sooner he could move deeper into the ruins and hopefully learn why he was summoned here. " Bonecrusher use Iron Head on the remaining Unown and Blubber use Bubble if it somehow gets back up. Let's end this so that Unown will not have to waste more time in a battle that looks unwinnable for it by now." He said as he Pokemon began to make their moves.

The Unown H may have regretted revealing itself to the human. It should have been hiding on the wall, honestly. It could see that the Goomy was a bit hesitant to attack such sentient creatures, however, the mineral-eating Aron was way prepared before Marchbaby even gave him order. Dashing forward in a rapid speed, the metal-clad Pokemon charged forward and rammed onto the remaining Unown with his sturdy head. BAM! With the two Unown defeated, the two psychic Pokemon fell to the floor. Then, a few seconds later, the Pokemon glowed and returned to the wall engraving where they were seemingly came from. The two Pokemon were not match to Bonecrusher's iron head, and thankfully for Blubber, her teammate seemed to have done most of the work. The gentle dragon couldn't believe that Bonecrusher just went on like that!

As the last Unown returned to the wall engraving Marchbaby decided to check out the room that had be uncovered by the disappearing wall. He figured that something good must be hiding in the ruins as it was an elaborate defense to use a wall such as that to hide an additional part of the chamber. He was not sure what to expect as he entered since he had been jumped by those two Unown as it was and the walls were covered in the same pattern throughout the chamber. He knew at any time more of them might come alive and attack him to test his abilities. He was ready just in case as his entire team followed him deeper into the cavern.

It seemed as though he was the only one there as nothing could be heard outside of his own footsteps along with the footsteps of his Pokemon. With how dark the chamber was however he could have been standing right in front of someone for all he knew as barely any source of light made it's way into the chamber. Had it not been for SHocker's Flash he would not have been able to see anything at all. Not ready to accept that the forced trip had been a bust he kept searching as he felt that fate itself had called him here for a reason. He would not have been teleported here for nothing and he was not going to leave until he got something to justify being interrupted while trying to stop his maniacal brother and the heartless Mania from destroying everything in their path.

With no other option but to call out hoping that something would respond Marchbaby began to talk in hopes that someone would hear him. " Hello is there anyone here. My name is Marchbaby and I somehow was teleported here by a swarm of Unown. I was just about to put a stop to my brothers evil plans and I would really like to know why I was summoned here. If this is some sort of test for a dragon tamer then please get on with it so I can stop him before it is too late. It took a long time to raise my Forretress to be ready to battle him along with the rest of my team and I would hate to have been brought here for no reason." He then fell silent as he waited to hopefully get a response.

It had been a strange situation for Marchbaby. Just as he was about to face and battle his brother, a horde of Unown came from nowhere, moving through some loophole or convenient dimensional pathway, in order to teleport Marchbaby into the Ruins of Alph. Even though he could do nothing about it, now he had to find his way out. This strange event even brought the young trainer to question himself why he was even here when he had something more important to do, like fighting his evil brother.

After he finished calling out at a seemingly empty cave, the room lit up again, by a circling and dancing crowd of Unown, all surrounding a Pokemon known as Xatu. It was unknown if the psychic Pokemon were friends with each other, or the Unown were doing the Xatu's bidding, but the psychic bird definitely had something to show to Marchbaby. Glaring at the trainer and the Magneton sternly for a second, the bird chirped, and then its eyes glowed. Combined with the Unown's power, it was as if he was traveling in the past, with the environment around him flashback-ing the previously explored Ilex Forest, the quest to save Chikorita, the previous gym battles with Bugsy and Falkner, and even the first day of meeting with Shellshocker. Though the flashback doesn't stop there. As the room seemed to be a warping cinematic space, the cinematic room finally slowed to a scene of Blackthorn City to when Marchbaby was a child, the meeting with the gym leader Claire and the match that the trainer was an audience in. The Xatu seemed to be exploring, or reminding even, the trainer about his quest to challenge the dragon type gym leader. Xatu were known to be able to see into the past and future, and likely at the same time. However, this avian was particularly interested in just showing Marchbaby's past.

After that was over, the Xatu's eyes stopped glowing and the warping cinematic room stopped. However, the Unown actually kept the light up for the human, how nice of them! The Xatu then chirped again, and two Natus handed over two X-Defense over to the human, as a gift an apology for grabbing the wrong human. The Unown and the Xatu might be looking for someone with better flashbacks, never mind the fact that the psychic Pokemon just borrowed his memory without his permission. Nevertheless, it could serve as a helpful reminder to the trainer mid-journey about his quest. After Marchbaby would put away the items, the Unown teleported the human to another room once again, where he would actually be able find his way out of this ruins.

Well, in the room was also someone... someone seemingly significantly. It was a silver haired suited man known as Steven Stone, hailing all the way from the Hoenn Region. An expert of stone and Pokemon, and also a champion of Hoenn League, Steven Stone was quiet as he examined the engraving on the wall, which also seemed to have pictures on some of the early-discovered evolution stones, such as the moon stone. He looked curiously without speaking a word, unfazed by the glowing bright teleportation that the Unown brought Marchbaby toward this room.

Marchbaby was stunned to see the room light up and become filled with a horde of Unown as well as a Xatu. Before he could say anything to the mystical bird the room around him began to warp with visions of his past. His battles with Falkner and Bugsy filled him with joy as they were both a test of his skill. Even with how recent it had been his quest to save CHikorita also filled him with emotions but the day he first met Shellshocker hit him the hardest. He had not used the young turtle in many battles lately however just seeing the flashback of the young turtle nearly overcame him with emotions. Just as he thought it was over however a scene from when he was a young boy in Blackthorn watching CLair battle amazed him that the bird was able to show him scenes from so many periods in his life.

As the scene faded and he could finally bring himself to speak again two Xatu's approached him handing him two X-Defends. " I do not know for sure why you showed me all of these scenes but it was a fantastic reminder of my past. I will keep up the good fight as I make my way back to Blackthorn and I will stop my brother before he destroys everything I hold dear. I thank you all again." Thinking his quest was over he was about to leave when the Unown suddenly teleported him to another room in the ruins. As he regained enough vision from the bright flash a man with SIlver colored hair was examining a wall. He had no idea what the man was doing here however with how the day had gone so far he hoped it would be good news.

" These Unown are surely something. They have teleported me all over these ruins. The last room I was in was full of them and Xatu. That was one mind trip if I have ever seen one. Wow my head is still spinning after that. Anyways my name is Marchbaby and I am a dragon apprentice. I also have a deep love of steel types as well. I can see you were examining this wall so hopefully you might know what is going on or maybe why these Unown teleported me here just as I was about to battle my brother. My Forretress worked so hard to be ready to battle him but now this detour has given my brother a chance to train more so I do not think all of his hard work will be enough."

Knowing he had talked the mans ear off he stopped talking and just looked at the man. If nothing else he at least wanted to avoid a battle with anyone if it could be avoided as he was just hoping to catch up to his brother as soon as he could.

Steven Stone, Hoenn Champion and Collector of stones of every variety so long they were interesting, had seen a lot. He had been around the world and back again, searching every nook and cranny on earth for its hidden gems, and knew for a fact that it still kept mysteries from him. He had only seen a lot. Not everything. Therefor, he was completely unfazed at the light of the Unown and appearance of a person, yet still curious. What wonders would unfold now?
Sure was a talkative fellow, the Unown had brought to the room. Or the young trainer was simply so excited about his adventure, he had forgotten common courtesy. Steven smiled at the thought and stretched out a hand in greeting, when a name appeared somewhere in the stream of words. "Hello, I'm Steven Stone. Very nice to meet you, Marchbaby." Other than that he let the words ebb out, and only then tried for a conversation with the trainer. He had to be a trainer. He sounded like one, and did he hear right about that Forretress in the end?

Steven dusted off his hands against the jacket of his suit, while thinking Marchbaby's tale through. "I'm afraid the Unowns' business are their own, and they haven't shared their secrets with the walls. At least not anything pertaining to the sightseeing trip you mention. It can be anybody's guess what their agenda are." He studied Marchbaby's face closely. The young man had practically spilled an entire presentation from his lips, and Steven figured he might as well reciprocate the favour. "I'm a bit of a Steel type trainer myself, but my main interest is stones, evolution stones, and other rare things from the earth. Did you say, you have trained a Forretress? That takes some dedication." Steven stepped back to the wall and seemed to look at them some more, while he pondered something. "I have longed to have a Forretress for my own team a while." He mentioned almost as an afterthought. He glanced back at Marchbaby, and then gave a friendly smile. "Would you be up for trade? I have been looking for a dedicated trainer for one of my Beldums. They get so bored with my stone searches. I bet adventuring with someone like you, is just what they need." He paused, trying to gauge Marchbaby's reaction. "What do you say? My Beldum for your Forretress?"

Marchbaby was a bit disappointed that Unown had not let the man onto their plans as he began to feel the whole trip the mysterious group of Pokemon had sent him on was for naught however hearing Steven make such an incredible offer cheered him up quickly as he never expected a trade for a Beldum given how exceedingly rare they were. As close as he was to Cannon Fodder this was way to good to pass up. " I will not lie I am very close to Cannon Fodder here but if your offer is sincere I cannot pass up such an amazing offer. Beldum is my favorite non dragon type so this trade is well worth the pain of letting go of Cannon Fodder." As he reached into his backpack he grabbed Cannon Fodder's Pokeball and handed it to Steven.

" It looks like this is goodbye for now old friend. You were a fantastic partner and you will be missed however I get the feeling Steven here will be a great trainer for you. I look forward to the day we meet again." With the trade completed Marchbaby opened the Pokeball containing his new Beldum. He knew almost as much about it as any dragon as he began to speak about his new partner. " Beldum are know for having armor that rivals any tank as well as their physical strength. Metang and Metagross are their evolved forms and Meteor Mash is their signature move although until becoming Metang without the help of a move tutor Take Down is a Beldum's only attack."

Getting a good look at his new partner Marchbaby began to think of a fitting nickname to give to the young Beldum. It acted like a leader right away trying to get Bonecrusher to headbutt a wall in the ruins though Bonecrusher did not listen at all. Marchbaby still liked the Beldum's attempts at leadership and combined with the name of the ruins they were in he finally had an idea. " I think Alpha is a fitting nickname for you. I think you will become a great leader as soon as you become a Metagross." With no other reason to stay in the ruins he was just about to leave when another horde of Unown began to circle around him and his Pokemon. " Not again." He said before getting teleported yet again.
