This took me way too long for what it is. ;-;
Credit to Blazey for the sprite here.
Name: Marshall Ritchie
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Trainer Type: A Fighting type fanatic, he should be expected to take part in any and all Pokémon related competitions, just to show off.
Hometown: Cianwood City, Johto
Text colour: Teal
Appearance: Marshall stands at about 5’4’’, much to his dismay, and weighs a slightly hefty 150 pounds. His stomach is a little rounded, with limbs rather short for his body height and olive skin. Unlike his beloved Fighting types, he doesn’t appear to possess a whole lot of muscle, but he is a little stronger than he first appears, largely due to being… a little heavier set. His neck is so short as to appear non-existent from a distance of more than about 6 feet. His rather circular face frames a wide set of hazel coloured eyes. His most striking facial feature is a large linear scar running down the right side of his face. His black, shaggy hair is never combed, so always looks incredibly untidy, and the entire head is complemented by a grey sweatband across his forehead.
For the rest of his body, Marshall prefers to wear a rather plain T-shirt, usually dark in colour, and a pair of shorts in a similarly dark shade. The exact colours will vary, but generally be blue, black or green. In colder weather, he’ll swap the shorts for long pants of the same kind of colours, and will wear a large black jacket on top of it all. He’ll always wear a belt, even with shorts, in order to keep his 6 party Pokéballs on his waist as he’s found no better way to store them yet. He wears a pair of sneakers on his feet, which are always brown, and a watch on his wrist at all times. He carries a large backpack around with him wherever he goes, which will store all of his extra Balls, spare clothes and any other items he might be carrying with him.
Personality: Marshall is a rather immature 18 year old who tends to believe the whole world revolves around him. He’s rather arrogant and selfish, only ever thinking about other people when he feels it will benefit him. Thus should a request be made of him, he will only even consider it if he thinks he will be rewarded for his efforts. His selfishness lessens a little when tending to his Pokémon companions, though, as he can’t exactly leave his loyal servants feeling too upset with their master. He loves to show off his self-proclaimed talents at any opportunity, which can wear thin incredibly quickly. He is also incredibly naïve, and thus impressionable and easily manipulated. This can often lead to him getting into trouble with the police and thugs alike, as he just doesn’t know what is good for himself and lacks a lot of common sense. Despite this, his intelligence is rather average. He is easily angered, though this rarely escalates into violence these days.
Marshall has a few positive sides to his nature, however. His arrogance does ensure he never gives up on a task he has set his mind to; how could he live it down if he gave up? Furthermore, his confidence is incredibly hard to knock at all. He has a surprising amount of knowledge of Pokémon, particularly the Fighting type, and a very good memory in general. Though it must be said that he will never remember anything on topics he simply doesn’t care about, which would be most topics. He’s also incredibly sociable… well, provided everyone is talking about one of his favourite subjects: Marshall himself or Fighting type Pokémon. I guess what I really mean is “he likes talking about himself”.
History: Growing up, Marshall was always short and wide. He’d get bullied at school for his size, and tended to give as good as he got. He got himself suspended from school once for fighting, but this hardly knocked his spirit. When he was 9 years old, he first saw a Pokémon battle on TV. It was the local Gym Leader, Chuck, in another routine battle. The battle was a landslide, the Leader winning without either of his Pokémon being knocked out. His Primeape wiped out a Snorlax and a Charizard in a swift 2v2 encounter. The relatively small Primeape’s incredible power captivated the young kid, and from that moment on he took an interest in Pokémon battling. He’d try to watch as many Gym battles as he could, even trying to break into the Gym once or twice just for that one glimpse of the action.
When he started trying to talk about his newfound passion, he was rebuffed by most of his schoolmates, who tended to find him irritating. His mother did her best to encourage him, not that he needed it, but he was never able to get to New Bark Town to begin a Pokémon journey of his own. Due to the whirlpools in the surrounding waters, very few ships were willing to take the journey to the Johto mainland at the time and those that did would charge extortionate rates that his family simply could not afford. The fact that he wasn’t getting his first Pokémon further increased the jeers from school, and at 12 Marshall was expelled after giving a classmate a black eye for “disrespecting the future Cianwood Gym Leader”. He managed to get into another school for “troubled teenagers”, where his anger management problems were slowly worked on, but his passion remained. At his new school, he fell in with a crowd of thieves who managed to illegally procure a Pokémon for him, a Machop. Needless to say, he was caught quickly and his Pokémon seized. This convinced his parents - well, his father - that him starting a Pokémon journey as a child was a bad idea.
Eventually, Marshall’s school seemed to realise how to get through to him and get him to apply himself. They started relating each subject to Pokémon, and Marshall began to study properly for the first time in years, not getting himself into any further trouble while behind school gates. Meanwhile, back at home, Marshall continued to learn as much as he could about Pokémon, even discovering that some non-Fighting types were rather cool too. When he was 16, his father was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack. He survived, but it seemed to change his views on life, and he suddenly decided that he wanted Marshall to become a Trainer after all. He gave just one condition: Marshall had to finish his schooling without breaking the law or getting suspended from school. Marshall took this challenge and passed it, graduating from school with decent grades. Once he’d finished, he packed his bags and set off for New Bark Town with his parents’ blessing.
Goals: – To catch every Fighting type Pokémon in existence
– To defeat Chuck in a Pokémon battle, using his own type against him.
– To earn fame and fortune (though he's not sure how he would go about this, yet)
Other Info: Marshall has an extreme fear of heights, for no discernible reason.
Wishlist: This is essentially the exhaustive list of known Fighting types, really, but Primeape and Poliwrath (Chuck’s signature Pokémon) are top priority for him. He's willing to raise non-Fighting types for as long as it takes to get them to their Fighting stages though. So Chimchar, Ralts and many others are on his to-get list.
