Name: Chorey Barbacci
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Trainer Type: Youngster, Fisherman
Hometown: New Bark Town
Appearance: From the ground up to the top his pointed fisherman's hat the boy is about four feet nine inches tall. He stands straight up, always pulling his shoulders back to make him appear to be a little more grown than he is. Chorey is certainly a slim boy, weighing all of 90 pounds. He has slim features on his face, but puffy little cheeks with natural blush that add to his boyish look. His eyes are wide and inspired and colored with a hint of grayish-slate. His nose is a little button to sat on top of his puffy lips, which reveal a wide gap-toothed smile. Chorey's skin tone is apricot in hue; from spending long days in the sunlight he's scattered with bunches of freckles on his cheeks. His hair is the signature Barbacci curl - bouncy waves of bright strawberry blond, just like his father's and all of his uncles feature. His normal demeanor would be a goofy tooth out smile, eyes almost pushed shut by his puffy cheeks. Normally he stands in a way to make himself appear a little larger, balancing on the front of his feet to give himself an extra half-inch in height. Chorey normally has his hands tucked behind his back.
The boy's clothing choice is pretty simple and reflects his bright personality. He wears a yellow quarter zip thin windbreaker over rotating graphic t-shirts, his favorite colors to match being white, sky blue and maroon. Chorey is always in above the knee shorts, and they're usually all tan in color. His favorite shoe is of course his shin-high muck boots, matching yellow to his coat. Of course, his signature accessory is his chinese straw hat - he only takes it off to sleep, bathe or swim. His uncles gifted him with a rucksack a little bigger than the size he needed, but it's many compartments and space are perfect for the young trainer setting off away from home. He sports a child-sized utility belt with slots for holding Poké Balls and Pokédex, but it's usually covered by his jacket.
Personality: Young and eager, yet patient and observant. Chorey's always been keen to detail, and ever since he was in diapers his parents would catch him observing little details in things unnoticed to them. He's a natural born fisherman and knows that patience is key to landing the right catch. He doesn't grow bored in waiting, yet finds tranquility in waiting for the right moment to act. The boy is quick to try new things, never concerned about the outcome but rather having the experience. He's a little free when it comes to thinking, but definitely has some enguiniety in his process. He tinkers with things to customize them to his needs, being so small his whole life he didn't take it as a disadvantage, but rather a way to help him be successful in the circumstances. But he's young, and full of energy for that matter. He's a rise at the crack of dawn kid, no nap needed to take him to the moonlight hours. He isn't exactly a prodigy but is wise in experiences and learns pretty quick when he experiences something first hand.
Chorey is entirely outgoing to new people, and has a great time making new friends to people of all ages. He likes to listen first, and then answer back once he's heard another person's mind. He has a great bond with his large family, and knows how to manage living in close corridors well. He's never had a behavior complaint, mainly because while being charismatic he prefers to keep to himself and his own discovery. When it comes to Poké he has always had a bond with any one he's met. His family all kept some creatures around throughout his life and Chorey loved getting to feed them, watch them play and be the center of their attention. He's always found it easy to gain the trust of the creatures because he demonstrates trust to them. Chorey always made it known he aspired to be a real Pokémon trainer and learn to battle like he saw on TV. His favorite pass time would be watching in awe tournaments of trainers from all over the world competing for titles. Chorey aspires to find great coaches along his journey who will help him in growing his own skills as a Pokémon trainer. His favorite type of Pokémon are water types, some of his most sought after partners would be those native to the waters of Johto. He learned from his uncle, who use to compete as a trainer in the Indigo League in his own youth that a team made of varied partners is his best bet. He holds true the idea that no matter what a Pokémon's strength or weakness is it's the bond between the trainer that really gives them their power.
Aside from aspiring to be a Pokémon Trainer, Chorey's favorite pass-time is by far fishing. He was raised with a pole in his hand and taught from a very young age sport fishing for catch and release. Chorey's never had the experience of fishing for Pokémon, however, as most of his family and teachers were not collectors or trainers. He loves the outdoors, and doesn't get bothered with being a little wet or dirty. Sleeping under the stars gives him great comfort, seeing as he always loved camping and being out on his own. Ideally Chorey would love to share his trip across Johto with others, but knows his true parents will be his Pokémon, something he is devoted to investing his attention to. Gym badges constantly flash through is mind as he's thinking of what lies a head.
History: The Barbacci family, originally hailing from the islands out lying the oceans of Johto and the Whirl Islands found their way to the main land and for the past two generations have been rooted in New Bark Town. His parents, Lyla and Kurt were in the business of trade, specifically transporting good over the oceans to various regions. They had their niche - Johto's world-famous apricots, used in the preparation of PokéBalls- which had its own markets across the globe. For this reason much of Chorey's early childhood was spent on the family's boat, transporting goods from port to port. He had already experienced the world before he had a memory to recall it. Both of his parents were gentle, soft spoken people, but hardly adults in matter of age when they had Chorey. Without hesitation Kurt's family of six brothers stepped up to help in raising the boy. So, from a young age Chorey had many people surrounding him with affection and attention. He was never forgotten about, even on long sails across the seas.
Chorey grew up with no interest into the business of trade, but instead found a lot of fascination with his uncles and their fishing businesses which supported local markets in Johto. Many times a year while his parents took trips to the different ports of the world Chorey would stay back and accompany his uncles to the different lakes and rivers of the Johto region, fishing for for and for profit with them. They taught the boy to master a reel at a very young age, and his skills grew from there. He was always proficient at lining and baiting, casting and reeling and even held the virtue every good fisherman needed- patience. He loved them mountains and the experiences of being across the land, seeing new things every day and pulling fresh dinner from lakes for later that night.
When the boy was around the age 7, Chorey's parents had landed a deal in the up and coming PokéBall development company in the Hoenn Region curated by a genius Pokémon trainer. Initially they packed their boat and sailed with their son to the new land, taking a small one bed-room apartment in a busy city with thick air. To Chorey it was all a strange world; although he had seen these places before he never knew what it was like to live in a place without forests surrounding his house, or ample space to run and play right out his back door. He didn't understand sharing a single room with his parents, as his childhood home in New Bark Town comfortably slept all nine of his family members. Excelling in their careers in the new start up, Lyla and Kurt could see the youngster wasn't flourishing like he should. They had arranged for Kurt's brothers to visit, where Chorey begged his uncles to take him back to his real home in New Bark Town. Delighted with the idea the six of them agreed to split responsibility of the boy and later that week were sailing back to their cape home on the family's boat.
It was an experience in Hoenn that helped the boy pick up a new hobby, however, which always made the experience positive for him. On a day off his father had taken him to the Rustboro City Gym where he watched a great match between the leader and a powerful young Pokémon trainer who was battling him for the title. He watched in amazement as the humans and Pokémon synergized their efforts to out maneuver the competition. He felt a fire light inside him that was from the connections these great trainers shared with their companions. Since that day Chorey expressed to his parents that his goal was to become a Pokémon trainer. They supported the boy and turned him on to the world of competitive Pokémon battling through programs and live events. When he left his parents care, they promised to arrange with the local Pokémon curator for their home town New Bark Town on his twelfth birthday the boy would receive a Pokémon of his own to journey across Johto with. Chorey, even at only eight years old locked that in his mind and began to fantasize about the day he got to have his own Pokémon battle. He spent the following years following many trainer's journeys across different tournaments and performances across the globe, taking it all in with awe.
This is where we really meet Chorey. He's celebrating his 12th birthday, his parents returned to their home in New Bark Town and his uncles all gathered around to help celebrate his big day with a huge buffet of breakfast. He hardly could fall asleep the night before, chiming in anticipation of what would lie ahead the next day for him. Chorey was given a bounty of gifts from his family, all of which intended to help him out on the open roads of the Johto region. Two of his uncles out of his large family had taken their own shot at traveling Johto to become Pokémon trainers, but both of them retired at a young age to enjoy the companionship of their Pokémon in their peaceful home rather than the open road. Chorey knew the faces of the local breeds, the sounds they made and the way they moved. He knew the names the creatures were given but not much more. He had a world of discovery a head of him. At the conclusion of a happy birthday song, a heart-felt embrace from his mother and all his family the boy was out the door and barreling towards the Pokémon Lab, ready to get started on his journey...
