A pair of cold, grayish-blue eyes stared towards Professor Elm's lab, waiting patiently for the famous professor and his colleagues to abandon the laboratory and return back to there homes. Essence had heard that the professor had managed to collect a few starter Pokemon that were not natives to the region. The young lady herself was not in need of a starter Pokemon, since she had her Fennekin, Brinley, by her side. However, she could not pass up the opportunity to steal a rare Pokemon even if she did not decide to use it for herself. She could easily sell for a high price or possibly even use it as a peace offering to give to the new Team Rocket organization that happen to form in the Johto Region. Darkness soon started to take over the small town and within seconds Professor Elm and his colleagues exited the building one by one in a single file before departing and going their separate ways. Perfect, it was almost time for Essence to make her move. She would wait approximately ten minutes before taking her first step. "Brinley, you say here and keep an eye on things. I shouldn't be gone too long." She spoke in a low tone as she glanced over at the small fire fox-like Pokemon that sat on her motorcycle. The Fennekin nodded her head at trainer's words before watching her dash off into the direction of the Pokemon Lab.
Essence rushed out of the bushes and headed towards the backside of the Pokemon Lab. Her piercing eyes scanning over her surroundings. She could either make way through the window or attempt to unlock the door with locksmith skills. Instead of unlocking the door on her own, she decided to try her luck with the windows. She took a small tool from her pocket, it was one of the various tools that she had created herself to help her break into windows. She toyed around with the window for a few seconds and soon enough it unlocked. She didn't waste anytime sliding through the window and using her incredible gymnastic skills land on her feet. A massive smirk curved against her full lips as she noticed the three Poke Ball resting a table unprotected by anything. "They're making this too easy for me." She chuckled slowly approaching the three Poke Balls. She debated on taking all three, but figured that it would be too risky. So, settled with taking only one of them, which had the words Charmander typed next it. She grabbed the red and white sphere and tossed it into bag. She would then pull out a counterfeit Poke Ball in the exact spot that she had taken the Charmander's Poke Ball. Luckily, she was wearing gloves and was not worried about her fingerprints being left behind. She took one more quick look around the lab before making her exit back out of the window. She closed the window behind and glanced around her surroundings, double-checking to make sure that no one leaving the lab.
She made her way back behind the bushes and smirked at her Fennekin. "We've got what we came for, now let's get out of here." She stated, hopping onto her motorcycle and starting it up. She chosen to take the back way out New Bark Town, which lead her to the outskirts of Route 29.

Essence hadn't been the only one that night to do a bit of breaking and entering. Having managed to successfully infiltrate the lab and acquire a rare Pokémon to further her goals, it seemed someone had the exact same idea. Having spent a great deal of time observing the way the laboratory operated, it was the evening a suspicious individual was going to break in and claim a rare Pokémon of their own. Word had spread across the region that the professor there had been given a shipment of creatures which were near enough impossible to find in the wild and for those in shadier circles, it was a tempting prospect they were unable to pass up on. Situated in the large bushes by the side of the building, he watched as Essence had made her way in through the window and come back out not long thereafter looking rather pleased with herself. Allowing her and the unknown Pokémon by her side to disappear off, the shady character decided to make use of her entry through the window by doing the very same thing. Quickly grabbing what they could, they hastily exited out and decided just one Pokémon to start off their journey wasn't enough. That rare fox like animal the woman had would no doubt make for a suitable addition. Problem was, it seemed she had got on her motorcycle and made for an exit. " Tch..." The figure grumbled. " Good thing I know a shortcut." Using some foresight and realising she was going to try and leave New Bark out to the west in order to get onto the route, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him, cutting through the woodlands before skidding down the side of a hill onto the route path itself. As he did, he saw a motorcycle fast approach him. Standing in the middle, he merely gave her a glare with his silver coloured yes. Hoping to stop her from progressing, he raised up the Pokéball he had acquired from the lab and stretched out his arm. "You. I challenge you to a battle. If I win, you give me that Pokémon of yours." Having lived a life so very pampered, it was understandable this moody teenager was used to getting what he wanted. Funny that fate should have it that the very same family he was born into were the ones who ran Team Rocket although it was uncommon knowledge the boss of the old group had a son. He had just encountered one of the old guard of the group. No doubt this chance meeting would go down well.

Essence gripped the handles on her motorcycle a little harder as she felt her speed starting to increase a little bit more. Then dark-haired female was so focused on making an escape that she almost didn't see the ginger-head standing ahead of her. She swiftly pumped her brakes and performing an unexpected wheelie not too far from Sliver It wouldn't be a surprised, if she had managed to get a little bit of dirty on the young male's face and clothes not that the older woman would care if she ruined his attire or not. She glared towards mysterious male with annoyed expression spread against her face. "What in the hell is wrong with you kid? Don't you know how to get out when you see traffic coming your way? You can't be that incompetent can you?" She hissed, hopping off of her motorcycle and moving closer towards Silver. A small chuckle soon escaped from her lips after hearing Silver request to have a Pokemon battle against her. "You can't be serious little boy. Isn't it passed your bedtime?" She asked with a raised eye brow as she rested her hands against her curvy hips. "Fine, if you want a battle then you will get one. Don't hold your breath, because there is no way that you're going to be taking my Pokemon. However, after I kick your butt and send you back home crying I will be more than happy to take your Pokemon off your hand." She smirked, making quick eye contact with the younger trainer. There was something that seem so familiar about him, as if their paths had crossed once in the future. However, she just couldn't place a finger on it at the moment.
Silver had released his Pokemon onto the battlefield and Essence was quite impressed with his Pokemon. It was indeed a rare sight to see such a Pokemon even it was considered to be a native to the region. "Brinley, come forth!" She called out to her small fox-like Pokemon. The Fennekin quickly leaped down from her trainer's bike and took the position right in front of her. "Let's teach this little boy a lesson, use Scratch!" She commanded as a wicked smirk curved against her full lips.

~~ VS. ??? ~~ Taking her vehement words, the uncouth teen made a smirk of his own as she berated his design to stand in the middle of the road. " Hmph. You say that but it worked didn't it? Making you stop. As soon as I saw you leave the lab and hop on that bike, I knew I wouldn't be able to catch up unless I took a shortcut and waited for you here." As smug as he was, he did have a point. Next time though, Essence would probably just want to run over the smart alec. His smugness would soon turn to sourness however as she exploited his youth against him. Not liking the bedtime quip one bit, he quickly hit back. " Shut up! I'm done with my parents telling me what to do. Do this, do that. Join Team Rocket, be like your father. I'm not some baby." His silvery eyes staring her down with great intensity, he made that deadly clear. " I'll prove it by prying that Pokeball from your hands. Get ready for defeat." Examining his own Pokémon, this would prove to be something of a gamble for the malicious teenager. He had broken into the lab and stole the first Pokeball he saw. So he himself had no idea what he was getting into nor the battle prowess of the creature he had sent forth. He was at least grateful for the fact he had grabbed a reptilian looking starter, there wasn't a doubt it'd grow into something befitting him; intimidating and strong. He knew of its species and what it could do but as he was about to find out, each and every Pokémon was their own individual, packed with their own quirks and behaviours. As Brinley was sent forth, Silver chuckled to himself in a belligerent fashion. " Hmph, there it is. I had seen this fox when I was spying on you. That's definitely not around here. No matter though. Totodile here will make mincemeat of it." So busy gloating his superiority, the moment Essence ordered an attack, it took him off guard, almost underlining his inexperience. " H-Huh? Damn it. Totodile, a Scratch of your own! Tear it up! Just not so bad, we might have to be welcoming this Pokémon into our team." Flicking his silver hue coloured eyes to Essence, it was clear he was an arrogant, cocky brat. There were only so many parents in the world that could produce offspring such as he. Unfortunately, as aggressive as the boy was, his Pokémon was far from it. Flailing it's arms from side to side, it let out a rather cheery growl as if greeting Brinley. Out of all the Pokémon he picked from Elm's lab, he had chosen the friendliest one of them all. Picking up on its nicety, Brinley went flying forwards and with her claws extended, let out a savage use of Scratch. Striking at the Totodile's weak point, it landed a critical hit, causing it to blunder backwards. " What are you doing?! At her, not me! They're over there, not here!" Giving it a nudge forward with his boot, the Totodile stumbled forward and with an accidental swipe of its claws as it flailed, landed a scratch against Brinley, causing her to retreat back to Essence's side. " For the love of..." The boy mumbled under his breath. There was going to have to be plenty of training if he wanted to whip this goof ball into the vicious, intimidating, killing machine he wanted. A quick chuckle escaped from Essence's mouth. "Well, I couldn't just hit some random kid. Your plan was a bit clever. However, I'm sure you will regret stopping me in my tracks sooner or later. I will make sure of that, believe it." She added, a malicious smirk curving against her full lips. She would definitely make a mental note to just run over the kid the next time he decided to interfere with her escape plan. If there would even be a next time. Essence soon felt her eye brow raise as she listen to the younger male raise his voice at her. His voice was full of anger and frustration. The older trainer became even more interested in the younger person after hearing him mention the name Team Rocket. "Your father? Team Rocket? What do you know about Team Rocket, kid?" She asked, her grayish-blue eyes making eye contact with his silver orbs. Perhaps, this kid could lead her to the new Team Rocket organization.
She quickly turned her attention away from Sliver and focused it back onto the Pokemon battle going on in front of them. Brinley had managed to hit her opponent with a critical hit during the first move. "That's what I like to see, Brinley. Keep up the good work and this battle will be over with in no time!" She told her Pokemon. "You're right Brinley isn't from around here. She's a rare breed and there's no way that you're going to get your pampered little hands on her. Your Pokemon on the other hand will be a great addition to my growing team." She replied with a cunning smirk. In the meantime, Brinley was knocked back from a Scratch attack from the Totodile. Luckily, it wasn't a critical hit. Brinley shook of the attack and quickly regained her composure. "Your Pokemon is quite friendly... I'm surprised you chose it as a partner. It doesn't necessarily fit you, but then again maybe it does. Perhaps this whole act tough thing is the new things that kids like to do for fun nowadays. You're probably just a innocent kid behind those cold silver eyes of yours. Everything was probably given to you and you never had to take anything from anyone." She spoke, locking back onto him. "Anyway, that's enough of that. Scratch again!"

~~ VS. ?? ~~ "Tch! Nothing you need to know," came his response in-between the slashing of the fox pokémon and the hapless one of his own little twerp. So far this blue lizard hadn't shown too much promise, but there was still potential in this totodile to grow into something worthwhile. The damage was there, the intimidating exterior was there... Silver just needed to get rid of that goofy trusting nature. Just think of the damage the little gater could do if it wasn't accidentally attacking his opponents. "That was pathetic," he growled at Totodile. The friendly water type shrunk back, hunched shoulders and a bashful look behind with barely a turn of his head to his new trainer. As Totodile pondered what he could possibly do to gain Silver's favor Essence began elaborating how the two didn't seem to mesh; like it was some sort of facade. The red haired boy ground his teeth, a vein very nearly popping out of his temple at the continued agitation of this woman. But he swallowed his rage and kept his cool, standing straighter and putting a hand to his pocket with a continued icy glare toward his opponent. "Oh, I didn't realize I was dealing with a senior. Kids these days. You're as presumptuous and self-opinionated as an old timer, not to mention fairly unobservant. Whether that be your eyes failing or being too high on your horse I couldn't care to guess." He began his retort, moving his free hand to brush some bangs from his eyes. Essence instructed her fennekin to attack and Silver followed suit. "Get in there! And do better this time, I want you to scratch that pokémon," he commanded coolly, pointing at the incoming Brinley. "Don't make me regret taking you from the lab."The big jaw of the crocodile pokémon flapped open, hands going into the air as he considered his options. He certainly didn't want to disappoint his trainer, but he also didn't want to seriously injure Brinley. Of who in return held no such qualms. The swift fox dashed up to Totodile, rearing and landing a good trail of claw marks along the lizard's body. Totodile quivered in pain, instinctively going to rub the new wound. But as he moved his own clawed hands Brinley had misjudged and ended up retreating straight into the jagged weapons, causing an uncomfortable rake across her cheek. Brinley hissed and backed off as Totodile made to apologize. "Your fox has the spirit, but you won't win against Totodile's strength; in case you failed to noticed." Silver's face construed into an ugly grin. "Why not just save me the trouble and concede now? I may be merciful and let you keep whatever pokémon you stole from that lab."Rival Battle 's Totodile ♂ | Level 5 | HP: 52% (11/21) Status : Normal Used Scratch! VS.

Essence frowned at Silver's réponse to Team Rocket. Obviously, the young ginger head knew something about the team of villains and she was more than willing to do almost anything to make him tell her exactly whatever it is that he knows about organization. However, she would have to defeat him in a battle first then torture him into telling her everything that he knows about Team Rocket. So far, the battle appeared to have been working in her favor. Brinley was definitely out there holding her own against the blue-reptile like Pokemon.
Essence covered her ruby-red lips with her mocha hued hand as a few chuckles escaped from her mouth. The insults coming from Silver's mouth were quite hilarious. In a sense, the young male kind of reminded her of her younger self. "That's funny, because if you didn't care you wouldn't continue to engage in conversation." She pointed out, cunning smirk forming against her lips.
The last scratch from their opponent had done a great number on Brinley, the little fire fox let out a painful cry before trembling back a bit. "Brinley!" Essence hissed as she watched her Pokemon attempt to endure the pain. Brinley was so weakened at this point that she probably wouldn't be able to take another hit from the Totodile. "Shut up! We're not finish just yet!" Essence hissed at Silver as she took out a potion and used it on Brinley. She didn't want to use a potion, but if she wanted to defeat this loud-mouthed brat then she would have to give Brinley a little more health.

Silver grew infuriated with Essence pushing his patience but he knew that if he could win this battle it would silence her rather quickly. His Totodile was still faring decently even after a few scratch attacks unlike his foe who was hardly able to stand. One or two more scratch attacks ought to do the trick or so he thought. Before Silver could even open his mouth to give an order Essence used a potion on Brinley to recover her hp. The teenaged rebel was not exactly thrilled as it would extend the battle but it was not all bad news, as Totodile would get more practice. " I should have guessed a weakling like yourself would be forced to use a potion, though it is hardly surprising as my Totodile easily wins in a head to head battle. It will make defeating you all the sweeter knowing even healing your Pokemon was not enough to defeat me." He said as Totodile got into position to strike again. The gator was not bothered at all knowing that all the damage it had done up to this point had been negated. It would be good practice to have the battle last longer and Totodile would get a free attack this turn and Silver already had a move in mind. " Use scratch on that fox and show it your strength again. I do not think it has learned to fear you yet."Totodile then walked towards Brinley and scratched her across the nose as she stood in fear unable to get out of the water types reach. As determined as she was the Totodile's greater physical strength was starting to mess with her head. Silver was pleased to see the hesitance in the young fox. " Smart girl, at least one of you is coming to terms with reality."Rival Battle 's Totodile | Level 5 | HP: 52% (11/21) Status : Normal Used Scratch! VS. Essence wasn't pleased that she had to use a Potion on Brinley in order to keep her in the battle. Especially, because she didn't want Silver to view her as some weak trainer. However, she just could not let her Pokemon faint right now and rest everything on the line. "You can say whatever it is that you want to say about my decision to use a Potion, but I refuse to let you walk away with this victory. I have too much on the line." She replied, the last couple of words almost a whisper.
Essence turned her attention towards her small fox, shaking her head at the fear shown on her Pokemon's face. She wished that she could do more to protect Brinley from her opponent's physical power, but there was nothing else that she could do for her right now after restoring her health. Perhaps, it would be enough help her Pokemon regain her confident. "Don't let you opponent get to you, Brinley! You know better than to fail for those little mind games. Stand your ground and use Scratch!"

The unknown thief smiled and shook his head. This women was getting his last nerve and he wasn't going to let that slide. She might have fancy items like potions to get her through. But he was going to win with pure power of the Pokemon he just... acquired. That stupid fox wasn't going to last much longer. "We're going to with this cat fight! Use scratch again!" the red hair man barked.
Brinley shuffled awkwardly on the spot it stood, it knew its trainer had so much faith. She even used potion to make sure she was going to win this fight which some how added more pressure on to this battle then there already was. But the fox Pokemon listened to it's trainer it ran forward swiping at the blue crocs nose. The purple croc stumbled backwards in pain.
But that wasn't going to last long, the blue Pokemon rushed forward to attack the fox one again. It flexed it's paw(?) and showed it fierce claws that struck once again this time hitting Brinleys ear. It wasn't a clean fight and a hard one for a new trainer to do. But with a little bit of luck, and some potions Essence has a good chance to become the victor.

Essence smacked her lips and shook her head. "There's no way I'm going to let some brat like you defeat me in a Pokemon battle. I just can't allow that to happen, kid." She stated locking eyes with him for a few seconds. She may have underestimated him for a bit and confidence may have been shaken up a bit, but she was still fighting to win this battle.
Essence turned her attention towards away from the ginger haired male and focus back on Brinley. She could tell that Brinley was still a little shaken up by the battle. It probably didn't help that the young fox fight a little overwhelmed by the pressure that her trainer was putting on her right now. "You can do this Brinley, get it another Scratch! Make it hurt this time!" She commanded with a smirk.
Brinley used Scratch.

The battle had come down to the wire as both Pokemon were now showing signs of exhaustion. Neither Pokemon could keep up this battle much longer and with neither Pokemon wanting to lose after coming so far they both pushed themselves to the absolute limit to try and stay in the fight. Brinley was still faster and she had to try and deal a knockout blow here as she was not sure if she could take another scratch attack or not. As she ran over to the young water type she scratched it's nose with her sharp claws before making her back back over towards Essence. As she did Totodile ran over and retaliated with another scratch attack of it's own that was slightly more powerful however it could not bring Brinley down even with it's greater strength. " So the little fox wants to keep going after all? That is fine by me, if she wants to suffer more to appease her trainer I will gladly make it suffer. Totodile could use the practice anyway as it clearly is not as strong as I had hoped it would be." As the red haired teen examined both Pokemon he knew this next round was going to be the last. The only question was who would be the one to fall. " It would appear that both of our Pokemon are at the breaking point. One of them will fall in the next round and Totodile had better hope that it is not the one to fall if it likes living." The impatient young man then waited to see what Essence would do next. Battle

Essence folded her hands into fists as she watched the battle continue to intensify right before her eyes. She could not believe that even after using a Potion to heal up her fire-fox Pokemon, Brinley was still struggling to hang in there. "Damn it Brinley, you have to get it together! You can do a lot better than this!" She shouted out to her Pokemon. Essence felt herself growing even more tempted to use another Potion. "Brinley!" Essence shouted out her Pokemon's name in rage. It was long before the small fire-fox Pokemon eyes started to burn with flames and soon enough her entire body would glow a brilliant crimson hue. It appears that her Blaze ability was starting to kick in. "Give it your best shot, use Ember!" Essence commanded, hoping that the extra boost to Brinley's fire-type moves would be enough to knock out the Totodile, despite fire-types not being super effective towards it.

With both Pokemon hanging on by a thread the next round was about to get underway. The red hared teenager had not doubt this would be the final round as neither Pokemon was able to focus very much as they were both exhausted. He had not counted on Brinley's ability kicking in however that would boost her power when using fire type moves and though they would usually not be very effective the boost in power might be just enough to allow her to overcome Totodile. The young man tried to get the jump on her by quickly ordering an attack. " Totodile you have been such a huge disappointment this whole battle but you will regret if we lose this. Use scratch on that pest one more time so we can end this." As he gave the order however Brinley had already made her move. She inhaled as deeply as she could before exhaling sending out a small ember towards the young water type. Her blaze ability really helped as the additional power granted by it allowed it to gain just enough strength as it scored a direct hit to knock Totodile out leaving the young man in a fit of rage. " You cannot be serious, losing to a twerp like you is the last thing I need to deal with right now. Argh I will be back and next time I will not hold back. You will regret this day. My name is Silver and I shall not be stopped by anyone especially the likes of you. Totodile is going to wish it was never born when I am done with it." As he finished his rant he ran off dropping a small amount of money on the ground in the process. With him out of the way Brinley grew a little stronger as a result of her victory and the path to Cherrygrove was now open should Essence choose to move on or she could choose to train some more in New Bark Town instead. Essence placed her hands against her chest as a deep sigh of relief escaped from her mouth. Brinley had managed to take out the Totodile with the help of her blaze ability. Essence shook her head as she thought about how bad the battle almost ended for her and her Pokemon. Essence slowly walked over towards her exhausted Pokemon, carefully picking her up and placing her into her arms. "You gave me a scare out there Brinley. I almost thought that Totodile was going to finish you off for a second there, but you managed to turn things around during the last round." Essence spoke in a softer tone. She felt bad about pushing Brinley to her limit, but at the same time she was happy that her Pokemon was able to come out with the win. Brinley flashed a weak smile at her trainer before closing her eyes and taking a quick nap.
Essence turned her attention away from her Pokemon and placed them on Silver. She could tell that the younger trainer was upset and disgusted at his Pokemon's ability to win the battle. Essence almost felt a little bad for the Totodile. However, at the same time there wasn't too much of a different between Silver and her. "Hey, wait! I'm not done talking to you, brat! I need more information about Team Rocket!" She shouted out to Silver, who was already making a run for it. "Damn it!" She hissed as she watched Silver make his escape. She wanted to give chase after him, but she need to make her way towards the next town and heal up her Pokemon. Essence walked back over towards her motorcycle, carefully placing Brinley on the back before hoping on and driving towards Cherrygrove City at a high speed.
