Appearance:
Poppy loves looking younger than she actually is. She prides herself in having a youthful glow, as well as being as "cutesy" as possible in order to emit a look of youth. Her skin is pale, blemish free, and extremely soft. It is darted only be a few sparce freckles and a little bit of pink blush. Her face shape could be described as "apple-like", she has large, soft, chubby, child-like cheeks; giving way to the "baby face" look that she so dearly desires. Her hair is long, dark blonde, and often covers her eyes due to her overly long bangs. It is normally done in a loose ponytail, letting most of it flow as it pleases. Her eyes, although usually not visible due to the length of her bangs; are a pinkish-amber hue. Unfortunately for Poppy, her eyesight isn't exactly the best, she's actually nearsighted and usually wears large light-brown hipster style glasses.
For clothing and accessories, Poppy likes to wear an oversized yellow sweater with a little teddy bear as it's logo. Under this, she wears a collared pink shirt, allowing the collar to peek out from over the neck of the sweater. She wears black leggings as she finds them easy to move around in and extremely comfortable. She wears tall brown boots, as well as white boot socks that peak over the tops of the boots. She parts her hair with a yellowish headband with a large bow.
Personality:
Poppy prefers keeping to herself in most situations, usually avoiding conversation and sometimes pretending to listen to music so she can forcibly avoid engaging in that sort of thing. She values her solitude and would rather be left on her own, thinking about her art and her Pokemon than to engage with other people; however if you do find a common interest with Poppy, which would most likely be art, she is an amazing speaking companion and a joy to be around. Poppy, although an artist is very self-conscious of her abilities as an artist and has difficulty drawing for people who are close to her, and to people in person. In a gallery it’s much different, as she can tweak her art slightly to get rid of any misgivings she has about herself. However, while drawing for people in person, there is no time for her to fix everything.
Another thing that Poppy is slightly uncomfortable with, is her own sexuality. Poppy hates getting on the topic of romance, especially during her schooling days when all the girls would discuss all the boys they liked because it was then that Poppy realised she was insanely different from the other girls her own age. Although Poppy would appreciate the beauty of a male, she found herself sexually and romantically drawn to other women. That being said, Poppy has never actually been in a relationship and has usually made an effort to avoid it. Sure, she’d love to meet someone who she could really connect with, but she’d much rather focus on her art at this point in time.
Poppy is somewhat of a closed book. She’s very hard to read and it’s insanely hard to figure out what’s going on inside her head, and she likes it this way; she’d rather not let anyone in at the fear that they’d destroy her if they got enough ammo. As such, she has difficulty forming relationships with people, romantic or otherwise. She likes to keep her distance from people, even family and as such has very loose connections with her mother and father, pushing them away the moment she left home.
Poppy is kind, motherly in a way, but usually only towards Pokemon. She’s a good person to vent problems to as she remains silent the entire time and then gives blunt advice to whatever problem you’re having. Even if the advice may sting a little bit. Poppy doesn’t waste words and if she thinks you’re being stupid, she’ll tell you straight up. She tends to get along better with boys, and Pokemon.
History:
Poppy was born to a pretty average middle class family in Laverre City, Kalos, they gave her what she needed to survive, nothing more, nothing less. She was never a spoiled child and had to work to get anything she wanted as her parents believed that giving your child too many handouts would result in a fairly bad seed. As such, Poppy did chores around the neighbourhood to attempt to make a bit of extra coin. When she was aiming on buying something quite expensive, she would often stay out late in an attempt to work hard to make her profit. Although she didn’t dislike it, it certainly exhausted her to the point of being a bit of a slump at school and at home; her routine had become school, home, work, bed as an endless cycle. That is, until she finally bought what she had had her eyes on; a beautiful set of paintbrushes.
She bought the brushes during an outing to one of the bigger cities in their region, her parents proud that their daughter had worked so hard to afford the beautifully carved brushes. However, it was at this point that her parents really started pushing for her to do something with herself other than art, telling her that it wasn’t exactly a practical career; which Poppy viewed with disdain. But, after her parents prodded at her throughout her teenage years, she settled on being a Pokemon Trainer. Although this wasn’t something she particularly desired at first, she grew to love it and wanted to be one more than anything; she worked hard in her studies and always tried to be the top student in her class, which she normally succeeded in. Her parents were extremely impressed by their daughter’s turnaround, and rewarded her with some extra money.
However, Poppy failed her final at the trainer's school. It seemed so simple, but she failed. She knew her parents would be furious, and so; on the day after her graduation exam at the mere age of seventeen, Poppy left home without telling her parents and never returned, taking only her brushes with her. After this, Poppy's life started out hard; she would draw upon the busy streets of crowded Kalos cities for money to get herself some food and shelter for the night. However, during this time she remembered the extra money her parents had gifted her and decided it was time for a new start.
So on that fateful day, Poppy Seong bought a ticket to the Johto region, and left her old life behind her.
