[atrb=background,http://i44.tinypic.com/1073yb8.jpg] Still flying high on the victory at the Violet City Gym Lin had rushed home to New Bark Town after getting a message from Professor Elm about getting a brand new update to her pokédex, it was such a great opportunity to improve the learning process, not to mention seeing her mom and dad, so they could see that there was nothing to worry about, their little girl was doing fine. Coming up upon the Lab Lin could see the Professor standing outside, holding up a device in directions of a wild Pidgey sitting on a low hanging branch, which made Pandora sitting on Lin’s shoulder start humming confidently fixing her small black eyes on the bird pokemon. “Hi Professor!” Lin waved to him as they came closer and then softly placed her hand on Pandora to calm her down, they were not here to pick a fight. “You wanted to see me Professor?” Lin tilted her head, giving the device a curious look.

The weather was perfect for a triumphant return to New Bark Town, with the sun shining pleasantly down on the road as Lin strolled down to meet up with Professor Elm for the first time in a while. The Professor himself was, surprisingly enough, outside in the sunshine. He hadn't been waiting for Lin particularly, but who can resist a glorious day such as this, eh? In his hand was a small red device, which he was trying to point at a nearby Pidgey. However, judging by his arm movements, the Pidgey wasn't in the mood for cooperating. He didn't notice Lin's arrival until she started to speak. As she did, he jumped out of his skin and started to move away from the noise. Turning around, he saw the owner of the mysterious voice and calmed down a little.

"Oh, sorry about that... you caught me a little off guard," he explained needlessly. "I've just been trying to scan this Pid- Oh, great..." The Flying type had flown off by the time Elm could even try to signal to it. The Professor sighed unhappily, standing still and silent for a moment. Then, out of nowhere, his face lit up as if a thought had suddenly occurred to him.

"Ah, actually, that leads nicely into what I wanted to talk to you about. You see this device here?" he asked, holding up the curious red object for Lin to get a better look at. "This is a Pokédex. It's a marvellous innovation that'll store information on any Pokémon almost instantaneously. It truly is something to behold. It's unfortunate that I couldn't show you how it works on that wild Pidgey there... but there's more than one way to skin a Delcatty, as they say." He chuckled, his eyes now proudly resting on the gizmo in his hands.

"To cut a long story short, this Pokédex needs to actually be close to a Pokémon itself in order to record the data," he began to explain, waving the Pokédex around a little as he spoke. "Now, as I'm sure you're aware, I have a lot of my own research to deal with, so I can't travel around myself to get this little thing filled. And that is where you come in!" He reached out to pat Lin on the shoulder lightly. "I want you to take one of these and complete it for me, my dear. Of course, I won't let you do this without payment. In fact, I have a pretty sweet deal for you..." With that, he pulled out a sheet of paper and offered it to the young woman. "On there you'll find a list of milestones that you may reach with your Pokédex completion and corresponding items. Once you reach one of those checkpoints, come back to me and I'll hand over the item on the list. Simple, right?" He smiled, pulling out another Pokédex and giving this to Lin also.

"I think that's all, really... apart from showing you how to use it, of course. First things first, I should warn you that just seeing a Pokémon will only give you a bit of data. You'll need to catch it in order to register everything. With that said, though, shall we scan in the Pokémon you currently own so I can show you the ropes?"
