They had left New Bark Town behind them taking the first steps on a journey to discover the secrets of this unfamiliar region. Ethan had contemplated allowing all of his pokemon to be out of their pokeballs, it was their journey as much as it was his, but it was a bit too hot for Demetria, Ariel could fight on land, but was so much better in water, Ares had been out training with him this morning, so he deserved the rest. Of the remaining pokemon, Nightwing was riding on his shoulder, taking flight every now and then on Ethan’s command to aim his attacks at low hanging branches, as a way to practice his aim.
Ethan padded Nightwing on the head after he landed another perfect hit. “Nice shot buddy, you are really getting the hang of this.” His pokemon partner nodded and then suddenly turned its head, as Remus came tumbling out of one of the bushes right in front of them, yapping gleefully, promoting Nightwing to shake his head at the eager puppy. Ethan could not help but smile, watching the Rockruff rush past them to make his next assult on an unexpecting bush. “Don’t run too far ahead alright?” He called after him, just to be on the safe side, they had a job after all, to discover and record the pokemon living here and not just getting to the next city as quickly as possible.
Once they reached a field of tall grass Ethan reached into his bag, taking out two pokeballs, before adjusting the strap. One of those pokeballs belonged to Medea, who was released in a flash of red light. “Hi girl, I need your help alright?” Moving down to pet her behind the mask like markings, he could feel her warm dark skin against his fingers as she nuzzled his hand back. “Good girl, now I need you to use Sweet Scent, can you do that for me? ”Medea glanced between the tall grass and her trainer till she felt confident that nothing bad could come of this, she was not alone, both Remus and Nightwing was there. So Medea slithered up to the grass, releasing a sweet odor into the air with her tail. “Beautiful, keep it up.” Ethan said encouragingly, as they waited and watched for the pheromones to catch on and do their work, soon they would face their first pokemon here in Johto.

Ethan's first steps out of New Bark Town would be quite the memorable ones, in terms of the view offered to him. Sunlight danced across the landscape beautifully, giving the entirety of Route 29 a bright, welcoming appearance. Beside him, a few other excited trainers hurried out of the metaphorical gates, getting ready to start their journeys. Or perhaps they were continuing them. It really wasn't easy to tell without any dialogue. Regardless, the details would be unlikely to bother Ethan, as he began his search for a wild encounter. His first wild encounter in Johto, of course. Would it be a rare species, or perhaps a common creature that he'd been used to seeing by now? The answer... neither, probably. For the first Pokémon to catch a whiff of Medea's wonderful aroma was as common as... a really common thing. At least, in Johto. A little Kantoan Rattata wandering through the long grass of Route 29 perked up as soon as it smelled the lovely Sweet Scent coming from Ethan's Salandit. Rattata licked its lips hungrily. That smelled good. Really good. It turned on its heels, darting toward the attractive smell. Jumping out of the grass toward Ethan, Rattata suddenly realised what had happened. In front of it wasn't the tasty morsel that it had expected, but rather a weird lizard thing. Was that a Pokémon? Rattata didn't know. It didn't recognise the Poison/Fire combination at all, not being a native of Alola itself. It stared at the Salandit with a puzzled expression on its face, forgetting the nasty trick that Ethan had pulled for a moment. Ethan would have plenty of time to decide what to do, apparently.

Ethan watched the small purple thing with the same puzzled expression on the newly arrived pokemon, it looked familiar, but at the same not at all the same. However before he could get his hands on a way to get an answer, Remus took the initiative, jumping the already confused Rattata in an attempt to initiate a fight. From Ethans point of view the two of them seemed an equal match, yet he hesitated to give out any commands, seeing as this was not the Rattata he was used to, which could put them at a disadvantage in terms of type matchup.
Medea on the other hand had no interest in the rodent, hissing disapprovingly when Rattata came to close to her, which again spurred Remus to bark and jump around. It was time to make a decision. “Alright, Remus you are up, let’s try a bite attack first and see how it responds.” Thrilled to finally be doing this the poppy pokemon ran forward ready to battle it out

Rattata returned an annoyed hiss as the strange black lizard slithered away on its wide spread feet. The wild rodent didn't like the looks of the deceptive pokémon at all! It was even colored to look like it was wearing a black mask; the bandit. Rattata's fur bristled, now taking in all the rest that were around, whiskers jittering in agitation. After the trainer made his call the wild pokémon's attention snapped onto the excited hound. Another strange one, but the rockruff didn't look all that tough. With a twitch of its nose the purple rat was covering the distance toward Remus, little tufts of dead grass and dust spitting up behind it. Remus prepared, dipping down in a playful crouch as he watched his opponent get close. In the last steps, just as the rocky pup was about to make a nip, Rattata slid to the side with a sudden jolt of energy then leaped forward and tackled Ethan's pokémon. Though, it didn't go near as well as the rat had hoped. Remus' body was much more solid than expected, making the poor Rattata wish it hadn't dove in head first. The rockruff was left barely moved from the impact while the normal type was seeing stars. Remus panted a chuckle, stepping around the dazed rat, then chomped down with his powerful jaws. Ethan nodded to himself as the battle unfolded in their favor and feeling a little more confident that this other form of Rattata was not about to pull anything too unexpected on them averted his gaze to the pokedex that he had gotten from the Professor. Nightwing circled around again watching the battle from above just in case that any other pokemon should stumble upon their fight or be attracted to the spot by Medea’s little trick. The pokedex entry was not too different from how it was in Alola, however the typing was normal and not dark, which should not be a problem at all for Remus to handle. “Keep the heat up, follow up with another Bite attack to bring it down.” Remus barked and charged forward leaving Ethan confident that they would make their first capture very soon.

The wild Rattata was still hungry nonetheless as the battle continued. It was fooled into thinking there was something yummy over here for it to enjoy, but there was nothing. Nothing... besides the delicious-looking Oran Berry that the dog-like Pokemon held. Maybe if the Rattata managed to defeat the Rockruff, it would get to enjoy the berry for itself? Or maybe it could steal it? The Rattata didn't care how it got the berry, it was food and the Rattata was very hungry. But before the Rattata could make any attempt to steal the berry, Remus landed a viscous bite right into the Rattata, while it was too busy focusing on the berry. The bite dealt a huge amount of damage to the Rattata, enough to leave it fainted. After being released from the bite, the small, Normal-typed rat Pokemon fell to the ground, unconscious and defeated by Ethan's Pokemon. Wild Battle Weather Status: Normal Wild Rattata | Level 7 Health : 0% (0/23 HP)Status : KO'ed! ...KO'ed! Ethan's Remus | Level 8 | Vital Spirit Health : 88% (24/27 HP)Status : Normal Used Bite! It was a Critical Hit!
