Operation: Foxtrot[F]

After their successful battle against Falkner Kevin wanted to get back to training the other Pokemon on his team using Oracle's victory as inspiration. Freyja and Samantha really looked up to their canine friend and after her impressive display they both wanted to grow stronger. Freyja however was so attached to Oracle that she would not leave her arms for anything. Her persistence was off the charts but obedience was critical in their mission. Being a baby Kevin had a bit of leeway for the young Eevee but it would not last long. As a fair man who knew Samantha's training had been cut short he decided to train her first but made it clear that when the time came, Freyja would pull her weight.

" I know you are a baby Freyja so I expect some issues, however I need you to be obedient when the situation calls for it. I promised you could stay with Oracle but I will separate you if you do not show me basic obedience as much as I would like to avoid that. For now just watch as Samantha looks for something to battle. I will let you know when it is your turn." Oracle did not doubt that Kevin was correct though his words were hard to hear. Freyja was clearly not fond of anything but cuddles at the moment and she secretly worried for the young Eevee. Samantha on the other hand was quite eager to try her luck again. The weather had improved so her ember could hit at full force.

Samantha sniffed around hoping to hone in on the smell of a Pokemon. The warm weather was a blessing as her powers were at maximun levels though she still lacked magic. Even as a magicless fox she was pretty strong after her first battle. Freyja might just be able to learn from her as well and Samantha wanted to encourage their new friend before Kevin resorted to rash tactics to force the young Eevee to learn. " I do not know what Pokemon we will encounter next but I want you to be ready Samantha. Get a Ember attack ready now that it will be at full power." Samantha then built up a flame in her mouth ready to strike. Freyja watched nervously fearing for her friends safety. As she had not been involved in a real battle before this was very scary for her not knowing how Samantha would fare in the opening round.

As the four made their way back to New Bark town for some training, while Oracle's win had lit the fire under most of kevin's Pokemon. There seemed to be a small, baby Eevee who disagreed greatly. But when Samantha was let out her Pokeball, a new look was on her face. A big smile and a ready to fight. While Oracle and Samantha loved Kevin dearly they knew of his harsh teaching Technics and wanted to will Freyja into fighting instead of the forcing.

As kevin gave the attack order, a young Sentret walked by. It was in a world of it's own gathering nuts on the fine summers day, as the wind blew softly. Making the grass slightly bend making it easier for the Pokemon to find berries and nuts for food. But unaware of the trainer behind it. Samantha took it as her chance and ran forward releasing the embers that formed in her mouth.

The Sentret let out a terrible shriek, as it got hit by the embers. Before curling up in a ball in an attempted too avoid the fire. That was licking at it's body, but it was too slow. But it's defense was raised for the next turn. It wasn't going down easy.

Samantha still showed some promise but even without the weather holding her back she lacked firepower. Kevin had to get her a Flamethrower TM as soon as possible and he was sure if he caught a flying type he could use it to send Marchbaby a message asking him for one. For now Sentret was his main concern as Samantha was not very bulky and this one was stronger than the last one. For now she was doing well and Defense Curl was useless against Ember but once it went on the offensive things could get messy. As he ran through all the possibilities in his head he remembered having a single Great Ball he could use to end the battle with ease.

It would be a disappointing end to a battle like this but Samantha would gain the same amount of experience and he would have a breeding pair should he find the need to breed them. Freyja on the other hand would not learn much but there was no rush to toughen her up. She would take a lot of effort to raise and getting Samantha's training out of the way would make raising Freyja far easier. It took him a few moments to carefully make a decision. " So this is a bit of an awkward situation for me to be in, but I think using my great ball to speed things up is the best option here." As he grabbed the great ball from his backpack Samantha smiled glad to have a quick battle in this case.

She wanted to grow stronger but shortcuts that sped things up without sacrificing her gains were fine by her. As she had defeated a Sentret already she wanted a different foe to test her skills on. She stepped aside as Kevin stepped forward. " This is not the most thrilling choice in the world for me but it is for the best." He felt quite confident in the odds of a capture as he took aim. He wanted to hit Sentret right between the eyes to help make the capture a near certainty. " I already have a mate for you if this plan of mine works. Go great ball capture that Sentret." As he crossed his fingers and hoped for good luck Oracle yawned in complete boredom. This would be another boring end to a battle that had so much promise at first.

Poor Sentret. A nice walk on a nice day, and suddenly it had been rudely ambushed by a trainer and his lacking in manners Pokemon. It rubbed at its singed fur with a sullen glare at Samantha, not at all enthralled by the concept of fighting this fire-breather. Looks were deceiving here - the Fennekin didn't appear that tough compared to the other Pokemon that it had seen during its life on this route. Until she'd opened her mouth, anyways, and let the promise of her true power be seen with that Ember. Kevin didn't find it particularly strong, but to a Pokemon like Sentret, it only meant ill tidings. Ears flattening at the thought of having to tangle with a fire-breather, Sentret was resigned to its fate when Kevin decided to change tack and attempt capture instead.

Its ears perked up briefly before the ermine went wide-eyed. Having seen what capturing had done to other Pokemon, it wasn't sure it wanted to go through the experience itself. But between that fate and having to keep battling Samantha, suddenly capture didn't sound all that bad. So caught up in its thoughts, Sentret scarcely noticed Kevin hurl the Great Ball at it until the device struck it dead on in the center of its face. Uttering a soft cry, the sound cut off abruptly as Sentret was drawn into the ball. It dropped to the ground, beginning to rock around as its new occupant tried to break free.

Samantha celebrated the successful capture with a little dance as her energy levels increased. She still had the same moves but it was still helpful towards getting her properly trained. Before they could locate another Pokemon to battle however they heard the approaching sound of a Skarmory who had an egg in a pouch it was wearing around its neck. The Skarmory was one of many Kevin had raised to deliver him items in the field and in this case it was the Riolu egg he had requested for Marchbaby. " Oracle it looks like you have a sibling now, I do believe March will be a great partner to us and this egg with make a great gift to symbolize our alliance."

Oracle was more than happy to let her sibling be raised by March but she was curious to know its gender. Using her aura sight she was able to identity the unhatched Riolu as being female. " A sister! I have a baby sister oh joy! I cannot think of anyone other than March to trust with caring for her. From the moment I read his aura I knew he was pure at heart and as a dragon apprentice he has some skill working with rare and powerful Pokemon. His love of my species is a bonus. Wait a moment I think I sense him nearby." Marchbaby was indeed nearby having just received a Pokedex from Professor Elm. He froze seeing the egg in Kevin's arms.

" I knew you said you would get me a Riolu egg for helping you but I can hardly believe my eyes, even with everything I gave you I still do not think we are even. If you still are willing to give me a Riolu egg I happen to have a Flamethrower TM I can give you. I do not need it right now."[/color] Kevin smiled as he handed Marchbaby the egg. The TM Marchbaby offered was a fantastic gift in return. " I would never go back on my word, she is all yours. That Flamethrower TM will help me out a bunch. Samantha here needs to firepower. Next time we meet I need to get you a gun. I promise you it will be way better then the baby guns the IPF uses." As they went their separate ways Kevin booted up the TM for Flamethrower.

" OK Samantha time to give you a big boost. With this TM you will be able to use Flamethrower early. Give it a try on the next Pokemon we see."



OOC: This post is set after Marchbaby finishes his Goldenrod thread so he cannot use Riolu until he leaves that area. Kevin swaps his Riolu egg for Marchbaby's Flamethrower TM teaching it to Samantha. Samantha uses Flamethrower on the next encounter. Leaving Sentret blank for now and putting it in Kevin's box.

Watching the exchange from the safety of a tall, shady tree, the next Pokemon Kevin and Samantha would come across was a rather rare one on the route. Known for silly antics brought on by perpetual clumsiness, they were well known, though most trainers passing through wouldn't see one at all. Maybe it was just bad luck, or the Pokemon's own unfortunate nature, but Kevin was a lucky one - perhaps in the sense that Samantha would have a target to try out her new move sooner rather than later. Eyes glued to the two trainers, Spinda had to simply bide its time and wait for one of them to wander its way, stubby paws clinging to the trunk to keep itself steady. Thankfully for it, the wait was short and Kevin would find his path blocked by the tottering bear that staggered out in front of him with a short cry of challenge.

Short, because Samantha had already been prepping her newest move and let loose a scorching stream of fire upon being startled. Spinda wobbled back with a shriek, its shoulder bearing a blackened mark from where Flamethrower had made direct contact. What happened next was amusing, or horrifying depending on one's perspective. Wanting to pay Samantha back in kind, Spinda took on a feeble glow that also enveloped the Fennekin, who squeaked in an undignified way as she felt a strange tug. Opening its mouth wide, Spinda proceeded to spew fire directly in Samantha's face. She danced back, more amused than actually hurt by the attack, ears twitching as she looked over the now heavily panting Spinda and wondering how it had performed such a feat.

Samantha had gotten quite lucky as far as potential targets went as Spinda were not a common Pokemon at all in New Bark Town. Their clumsiness and rarity led to them being captured quite quickly reducing the population to very small numbers however unlike most trainers Kevin did not have any desire to capture the normal type, not at first anyway. Samantha had followed her orders beautifully scored a direct hit on the poor panda causing massive damage before the panda could retaliate. It was how it retaliated however that caught Kevin's eye. The panda copied Flamethrower and used it against Samantha. Even if the attack did not do much Kevin was quite impressed at the young Spinda for using such a creative method to fight back.

" Oh boy we have a fighter over here, using your opponents move against them is a beautiful display of strategy and tactics for such a clumsy Pokemon. You are quite resourceful to use such a move. Under most circumstances I would knock you out and keep going but I think you might just be something special." Kevin watched the panda as Samantha got ready to do a victory dance around Spinda thinking she would get to knock it out with the next attack. This was another rare case though that capturing the Spinda was the better move as much as Samantha wanted to unleash another flamethrower. Learning such a powerful move so early only to be told to stand down was never a great experience and unfortunately for her Kevin did just that. 

" Samantha I know I had to do this once already but I have to do it to you again. This Spinda is too special to knock out so we have to capture it. That will mean no more flamethrower for now. I know you want to use it more but my hands are tied in this situation. Samantha nodded as she walked back to Kevin and stood beside him as he took out a Pokebsll. His stock was running low though he hoped he would at least have enough for this battle. " I need to buy more Pokeballs as soon as we get to a Poke Mart. I am running really low and we need more Pokemon for our mission." Kevin got ready to toss a Pokeball at the Spinda as Freyja and Samantha say down next to each other hoping for a good result. If things went south Samantha would have to take one for the team.

Dazed from its scorching, and its own literal return of fire, Spinda was in little condition to protest what it was hearing from Kevin. Indeed, the population of the cutesy Normal type had dwindled, those remaining either driven into hiding or simply snapped up by eager young novices who caught without restraint. Spinda had toddled along simply looking for a battle to enjoy sans risks, and was only now feeling a tinge of regret. But it wouldn't get any stronger by cherry-picking its fights, and it gave a quick shake of the head that would appear to Kevin and his waiting Fennekin as just another random gesture from the clumsy Spinda. While the fox was eager to press on with the battle as well, despite her intrigue of Spinda's copying skills, she seemed a little put-out at having to step aside once more.

She did so with dignity, managing to keep the regret from her face as Kevin stepped forward to launch a Poke Ball at the tottering Spinda. Its erratic movements almost made the capture more of a chore than usual, the ball striking one long ear as the Normal-type almost tripped over its own feet and upset its balance. Thankfully the ball only needed to make contact to work, and it sprang open to pull Spinda within. Samantha watched with a sense of deja vu as the device began to rock from side to side, body tense with expectation of Spinda breaking free and attacking her. However, only a scant few seconds later, the ball ceased its rocking and signaled a success with a resounding click.

Spinda had been an easier catch than Kevin had expected though to be fair it was in really rough shape after Samantha's Flamethrower had nearly burnt it to a crisp. Her traing was going along really well especially with her getting to learn Flamethrower so early. Kevin was very pleased by the far greater potential she showed with the move as she did phenomenal damage to the poor Spinda. " See I knew you had it in you. You may not be at your full potential yet but that Flamethrower was pretty impressive for such a young thing." He could hardly imagine how useful she could be once her psychic powers fully developed.

If he was lucky she might gain telepathy like Oracle and that would be a huge help for his plans down the line. For now her barks, growls, and cries would have to make due. Samantha was getting close to finishing her current training session and then Freyja would get a turn to show off. Kevin was hoping to find and easy target for her to start off with once Samantha evolved though he would be happy with anything just to see which types of training she needed to focus on. " Samantha keep up the good work, you are a great role model for Freyja. Once you evolve the first step of your training will be complete and we will be able to focus on her."

Samantha was more than excited to evolve as it was the only way to truly unlock her potential. Just a few more levels was all she needed and then she could really take advantage of Flamethrowers power. As she daydreamed about how she would look when she evolved Oracle sensed something off in the distance heading towards them. She had not gained enough strength to identify the approaching target but she could still have everyone ready to attack whatever it was. " Just ahead of us there is something coming. I cannot make out what but it is a living thing. Samantha might just have a new sparring partner already."

Kevin wasted no time in getting the young fox ready for another fight. " Well my foxy lady, it seems we might have a few guests over soon. Whenever they arrive have a Flamethrower ready to go. We want to make sure they do not get a cold reception." Samantha did not hesitate to build up a giant flame in her mouth. If anyone felt cold when she was through with them there was no chance of ever warming them up.

Nature/Personality: Private Klutzy is a sweet natured Spinda who only wants to help. Her Klutziness ofter impairs her ability to help as well meaning as she is. Kevin has a soft spot for her nonetheless and sees her as a nice source of comedic relief.

Kevin's training had been slowly getting more attention from the wildlife of the route, some wary, others boldly curious. One such Pokemon was watching on lofty wings, tipping them to the side in order to get a better look at the trainer and his Pokemon. While no rare prize, Spearow were an ubiquitous sight on the road to Cherrygrove, and made for very scrappy fighters. The one watching Kevin was no slouch, sporting a very haggard appearance that spoke of a life well lived as a fighter, and a perfect candidate for Samantha to try her strength on. For there was no mistaking Spearow coming in closer, Oracle picking up on the bird's intent before it had even moved into range. Beak parting, Spearow cried out a battle challenge, wings folding to bring it down closer to Samantha's level.

Big mistake.

As it flared those same wings, ragged feathers fluttering free as Spearow pulled up in front of the Fennekin, she flattened her ears and bared her teeth. Flames licked through her sharp canines, giving Spearow some pause, but it was too late - Samantha opened her mouth wide and let loose a gushing torrent of fire. It engulfed Spearow before the bird could make a sound of surprise, the heat simply too intense to bear. Once Samantha had ceased attacking, the toasted Spearow lay unmoving upon the ground. Turning round to grin up at Kevin, Samantha paid no heed to her former foe, knowing there was no way it could had survived a point-blank Flamethrower and lived to tell the tale.

Samantha easily took care of the Spearow who had made a big mistake of trying to get too close to her. More than likely other Pokemon in the area would make the same mistake if they stuck around for much longer. Kevin wanted to train Freyja before he moved on but it was clear to him that Samantha would have to go to a new area in order to really get any benefit. It was a true pain to decide to postpone Freyja's training even more but the young Eevee was happy as it meant more time to relax and let Samantha do all the work. Samantha had been working really hard and Freyja did not want to mess up her concentration and neither did Kevin. He just had to decide where to take the young fox to train.

The Pokemon who lived in Cherrygrove were not much more powerful then those in New Bark Town and those in Violet City were a bit stronger however both cities were in a terrible fog at the moment making it harder to hit their target. Neither choice was very appealing to him and he began to wonder if he should stick around here until the weather improved in those areas. If nothing else he could swap Freyja in and out and get her a few levels before moving on. He did not like changing the pace that Samantha had set but it was really the only decent choice he had at the moment. Freyja had been on her lazy butt for too long as it was and she had to earn her keep sooner or later and now would be a great time. He looked right at the young Eevee as he started to speak.

" Freyja you might not be mighty yet but you will be once your own training is complete. I want you to start off the next battle. I will not have you attack this time but rather you will switch out with Samantha who will use her Flamethrower on whatever appears so you can get a tiny bit stronger. I wish you had a more useful movepool at your age but this is our best option." With Freyja acting as bait Samantha stood a few feet behind her ready to take a hit for the team and then unleash her Flamethrower attack right afterwards. If things went the way Kevin planned d it would be a good.way to bide some time until they could make their way to a city with stronger Pokemon.

With Spearow dispatched so neatly, the next Pokemon Kevin and his team would come across was seizing its chance to seek better shelter in one of the nearby trees. Not particularly fast, the Pokemon was easily spotted as it squirmed anxiously across the path, its bright red colouration identifying it as a Wurmple. Freyja watched the Bug-type curiously, large ears twitching as she pondered trying to get its attention. It seemed easy enough to fight, not particularly threatening outside of the large spikes on its rear end. Making a small noise in her throat, the Eevee sauntered forwards a few steps with the intention of picking her fight until she remembered Kevin's words and halted reluctantly. But her movement had been enough to draw Wurmple's eye, the caterpillar-like creature hesitating between its own curiosity and a desperate need to get out of sight before some passing bird snatched it up.

Oh, why not. Spearow had been hanging around for so long that Wurmple had begun to ache from staying unmoving in the grass, and now that it was gone, it could afford to see what this strange new Pokemon offered in terms of a challenge. If Wurmple had known of Samantha's purpose, perhaps it would have simply listened to its natural instincts and kept moving instead of enduring what came next. Seeing Freyja beginning to retreat, Wurmple let out an irritated noise and squirmed after her, spraying the air with a billowing line of stick silk that fluttered wildly in the breeze. Samantha took the brunt of this as the Fennekin leapt in to keep Freyja safe, squeaking as the silk settled heavily in her fur and almost seemed to weigh her down.

Sure, this was disgusting and very much not enjoyable, but Samantha wasn't about to let this small setback deter her. Huffing, she lifted her muzzle and stared down it at the unwitting Wurmple as it crept closer. Fool. The fox opened her mouth and spat out a narrow column of fire that blistered the air before impacting with the Bug-type, its shrill cry of pain cutting off as it too went the way of those who had come before it. A bit of smoke rose from its body as Samantha ceased attacking, the poor Wurmple not standing a chance against a Pokemon bent on purifying the entire route with her flames.

After dealing with the Wurmple Samantha struggled to get all of the sticky webbing out of her fur but luckily being a fire type flames did not bother her much so she lit a small patch of grass on fire and rolled around in it until they burned off. Though it was a bit dangerous Kevin liked her creative method as she used the resources available to her. Her intelligence was quite high for a young Pokemon and thanks to Flamethrower she was able tonhitnher targets with far getter effectiveness than she could with any attack she would normally know at her current level. He still had some things he wanted her to improve on such as her speed but she was showing a lot of promise. One more foe with enough strength should get her to evolve so he could concentrate on Freyja.

To be fair to the young Eevee she had played her part well and Kevin was proud of her for obeying him. It was by no means his favorite method of training as being swapped out could be demoralizing but for now his plan seemed to work rather well. The young Eevee still had a vary long road ahead of her before she would be up to his standards however this first step at least showed she would obey him when told to do so. Kevin looked Freyja right in the eyes and she grew a bit nervous of him not knowing what his next plan for her would be. She did not mind getting in a fight but he did not want to risk her getting hurt too badly for now. It was a bitnof a pain coming up with ways to make her stronger butnif his plans kept working she might just be a useful companion given enough time.

Oracle on the other hand was still hoping the others would finish their training soon so she could get into more training sessions of her own before the next gym battle. Samantha was really close to being done with hers but poor Freyja would likely take a long time to be ready and Oracle wished there was a way she could help the young Eevee grow a bit faster but she had to admit Kevin's plan was about the only option still. The good news was that another guest was headed their way and Samantha was ready to strike. Kevin wanted to see if his luck would holdnout though as he had Freyja step forward. " Freyja take point again. As soon as our guest gets close enough swap out with Samantha so she can use Flamethrower."

Somehow, despite the fire-spewing monster that was Samantha being present, Pokemon were still curious enough to get close to the spectacle. Morbid curiosity, perhaps, or lean opportunists making off with those who'd all been toasted thus far. The next fool to feel the flaming fury of Fennekin would arrive in a rather unorthodox way for a Pokemon of its kind, having descended from the tree above to escape notice earlier. Creeping through the grass unseen, it tried to make as little noise as possible before it simply cannon-balled out of the long, emerald blades to perch atop the fainted Wurmple, whose body was still sending off puffs of smoke from its extremely recent scorching. None of Kevin's team was looking at it yet, the plump Hoothoot delighted with its cleverness, and attempted to take off with its prize.

Freyja's sensitive ears had picked up on the owl's almost imperceptible approach, and she watched with amused carmine eyes as it fluttered short wings that looked as if they barely supported the bird in flight. Seeing it was preoccupied, the Eevee darted in close and swatted cautiously at the wild Hoothoot, baring her teeth in an approximation of a cheeky grin before fleeing back for Kevin's side. Swelling with indignation, Hoothoot let loose a stream of angry chatter, abandoning Wurmple in order to pay back Freyja for her, in its eyes anyways, intolerable manners. One should never bother others in the middle of a meal! ...even if Hoothoot had been intending for take-out, rather than dining in.

Samantha sauntered forwards with a knowing smile, watching her opponent stupidly arrow towards them in a perfectly straight line. All the better to aim at, the Fennekin chuckled to herself as she planted herself in its path. Hoothoot didn't stop, not even when it emitted a piercing shriek of a growl, and certainly not to check itself on its roaring rampage of revenge... and flew face-first into a blast of fire. Samantha didn't bother checking to see if her attack had successfully knocked it out, distracted by something going on with herself - a pale light suffused her entire body, and the Fennekin glanced up at Kevin as if seeking advice, or permission. Evolution was upon her at last!

As the battle came to a close Samantha began to glow in a familiar pale light just as Oracle had just before evolving and Kevin was more than happy to allow the process to continue uninterrupted. Her needed the extra power she would gain from evolving and he was quite proud to see her hard work pay off. " You have more than earned this moment Samantha, it is time for you to evolve and gain a higher level of power then your current form would ever allow." A blinding flash then came from her body as she grew larger and had a more human like posture. Like Oracle she now stood on her hind legs and her height increased dramatically. Best of all was her magical powers grew to a level high enough to use telepathy like Oracle.

" Oh my I feel so different. This new body of mine is so much more efficient than my old one. I can easily make this work." Freyja then ran up to her and jumped into the fox's arms like she had with Oracle inpure excitement. Though Kevin still wanted to train the young Eevee Samantha's evolution meant he could tackle the next thing on his list and then worry about that. " Great work Samantha, you are quite a good fighter and with your new body I have something I have been wanting to do for a while now at the Sprout Tower and I think with your new form you will be a huge help. Rumor has it the head sage there uses a special colored Bellsprout and I want to battle it using you to see just how tough it is." 

Samantha had only just evolved but the chance to grow even stronger by fighting an odd foe was pretty appealing to her and as Bellsprout would be weak to her Flamethrower she did not see any problems in helping at all. " My master loaned me to you to make me stronger so I do not see any harm in helping at all. I am sure he will be pleased the next time he sees me. So which town is the Sprout Tower in? She asked as Kevin took out a map to show her. " Sprout Tower is located in Violet City. Usually the monks there are really peaceful but I hear they do not like fire types very much. I think a pretty young lady like yourself will be a great way to change their minds." They then made their way towards the city ready to face what lie ahead.
