Poisonous Darkness [F]

[Venominon]

After completing the Sprout Tower trial, and leaving Violet City, Venom and Ivysaur made their way to their next destination. It didn't take them very long to reach it, as Venom comes to a stop, then grins at the entrance to a very dark looking cave. Ivysaur stops several seconds later at his trainer's side, then looks at the same cave entrance. At first, Ivysaur is a bit intimidated by the looks of this place, then looks up at his training and questions him. "Ivysaur?" Venom doesn't take his eyes off the cave, but still gives his partner a nod. "Yup, this is it Ivysaur. The Dark Cave. We're going in."

Not showing even the slightest bit of hesitation, the ninja takes his first steps into the cave. Ivysaur flinches a little, watching his trainer almost fade away into the darkness before quickly following him into it, despite how uneasy the Seed Pokémon felt about this place. Before going in too far, Venom stopped, and looked down at his partner. "Okay Ivysaur, its time. Use Flash." Ivysaur turned, meeting his trainer's gaze, then nodded at his command. "Saur." The Grass/Poison type focused his energy, then within seconds, the flower on his back suddenly lit up, giving off a blinding light. This move brought light to the whole cave, making it much easier for Venom and Ivysaur to see and find their way around.

Once the light had died down a little, Venom looked around, trying to find the Pokémon he'd came here for. "Saur?" This once again made Ivysaur question his master, wondering exactly what kind of Pokémon they were looking for this time. The Poison type trainer kept looking, but still gave Ivysaur an answer. "A Zubat. There are always lots of them in caves like this, so I know their here. Both Koga and Janine have a Crobat back home. Its a must have for any top Poison type trainer." Venom explained to his partner, still trying to locate a Zubat of his own. He knew that they were a rather common Pokémon, so he hoped that would increase the likelihood of finding one before anything else that lived in the Dark Cave.

The light emanating from Ivysaur's flower was quite a strange sight to the Pokemon in the Dark Cave who were used to the total darkness it was usually known for. Though it drew the attention of many Pokemon one in particular just had to come and investigate. The small Pokemon slowly walked towards the strange glowing Pokemon very intrigued to both find out why it was glowing and maybe get in a battle while it was at it. Aron were known for protecting their territory and though this one did not want to jump into a battle right away it would not back down from a battle if the chance arose. Being so slow meant it took a while to finally locate the light source and when it did the small steel type roared before scratching the cave walls to get Venom's attention.

As soon as Venom turned to face it the Aron stepped forward and lowered its head just in case the trainer started a fight. The armor plated Pokemon was not quite the common Pokemon Venom had set out to find but it certainly was a powerful Pokemon. Thinking that Venom might not be too hard to defeat in battle the Aron growled " Arrroooonnnn" with a powerful echo of its name echoing off the caves walls. " Arrrroooooonnnnnn" it growled again trying one last time to get the human to battle it as by now nothing else in the cave was as exciting as the human. Hoping that its growling was not a waste of time the Aron got ready to attack as it focused on Ivysaur's glowing flower. 

There was no option to run from this determined Aron now as it had invested too much time finding the human to let him escape and a number of Pokemon who lived it the cave had surrounded both him and the Aron anticipating a good battle.

As soon as Venom and Ivysaur heard the clawing and growling sounds, they both put their search for a Zubat on hold, and turned around to find the source of these sounds. Upon discovering the small Steel type, Venom got a look of disappointment on his face. He knew those sounds couldn't possibly have come from a Zubat, but just one look into the Aron's eyes told him that this was not a confrontation he could shy away from. "I like your spirit little guy, but your not the Pokémon I came here for. Still, who am I to turn away from such a determined little Pokémon. Ivysaur, get in there." The ninja said with a sigh, hoping to at least wrap this bout up quickly and resume the search for a Zubat.


Seconds after his trainer's command, Ivysaur rushed right out onto the front lines, showing a little more enthusiasm then his trainer. "Ivysaur!" As the other Pokémon of the cave gathered around them to watch the battle, Venom suddenly perked up a bit. He glanced around at all the wild Pokémon that had come out of hiding, and an idea crossed his mind at that moment. Maybe he could use this battle to draw a Zubat out of hiding. The Poison type trainer grinned, deciding to give it a try. "Okay Ivysaur, start off with Vine Whip. Then give it a second Vine Whip after that." Venom quickly made his choice of moves, using the ability of his Running Shoes, still wanting to get this battle over and done with as soon as he and Ivysaur could. Ivysaur quickly complied, extending his vines from the base of his flower, and whipping them at the wild Aron. "Ivy...saur! Saur!"

Even if it was not the Pokemon Venom was searching for the young steel type was glad to hear Venom was at least not going to turn down its demands for a battle. The sight of Ivysaur stepping up to be its opponent was a bit unnerving as it was such a large Pokemon however Aron being the brave Pokemon it was would not let size scare it off. What caught Aron off guard however was how fast Ivysaur was compared to itself not realizing just how much the heavy metal surrounding its body slowed it down. As useful as all that armor was in this case it was proving to be quite a liability as Ivysaur send a pair of vines towards Aron smacking it multiple times across the face and legs causing a moderate amount of damage.

It was only during this attack that the upside of the armor became apparent as it allowed Aron to endure the attack and even launch a counterattack of its own. Aron rushed forward with its metal claws extended before swiping Ivysaur across the face. It was not as powerful as the vine whip but it still did an impressive amount of damage for its size. By getting so close to Ivysaur it made it even easier to strike Aron with a second vine whip again causing pretty significant damage to the steel plated dinosaur. By now Aron was second guessing the idea to challenge Venom but this battle was not over yet and Aron still had another chance to attack. It extended its claws and swiped the Ivysaur across the face hoping to knock it out but not even coming close to achieving that goal.

Aron was in a pretty bad spot by now as the vine whips had really taken their toll but its armor was still holding up for now. Even with the heavy armor protecting it however things were not looking very good as Aron could hardly stand from the pain caused by the two attacks. Unless a true miracle happened there was little chance of it winning the battle now but that tiny ray of hope is all Aron needed to keep trying.

Venom began to grit his teeth, as Aron's armor proved to be tougher then he'd anticipated. He'd hoped two Vine Whips in a row would be enough to finish the small Steel type off, but it seemed that was simply not the case. It was at this time that Venom started to get more serious, clenching his fists tightly. Locking his eyes on the wild Aron, all kinds of thoughts and memories started to fill Venom's head, reminding him of the reason he started his journey in the first place. True, he did wish to make a name for himself as all trainers do, and one day take his father/master Koga's place in the elite four, but there was another, deeper reason for Venom's travels. Throughout his life, Venom had seen many trainers enter Fuchsia City, the Safari Zone, and Koga's gym, and as time went on Venom began to notice something.

Many of the trainers that passed through Fuchsia City used Steel type Pokémon to battle Koga's Poison type Pokémon. Of course, Venom knew that Steel types had a clear advantage over Poison types, so that was just basic strategy, but it still kind of bothered Venom at times. What was more was the fact that many of the trainers Venom had seen back then, and even very recently, had little to no Poison type Pokémon on their teams. Trainers seemed to favor other types of Pokémon, treating Poison types as if they were second rate. Being that Venom loved the Poison type Pokémon most of all, this really got under his skin. Venom felt like the Poison type Pokémon were being overlooked, passed over, and treated like weaklings by other trainers.

Also, through some research, Venom also quickly discovered that there were no Poison type legendary Pokémon anywhere in the world. It was then that Venom's goal was clear. He decided then and there that he'd become one of the best trainers in the world, find a Poison type legendary Pokémon, do it all with only Poison type Pokémon on his team, and prove everyone who ever looked down on the Poison type wrong. This was actually the main reason Venom decided to come to Johto to start his Pokémon journey, since he knew there was a Steel type gym in this region. Naturally, a quest to prove that the Poison type is the best must start by using the Poison type to best the Steel type in battle. Venom also felt the same way about Ground and Psychic type Pokémon, but he still wanted to challenge Koga for his spot, so he figured Johto was the best region he could visit to fulfill all of his goals and dreams in one go.

With all of that in mind, Venom saw the wild Aron before him as the first obstacle he must overcome on his way to making his dream a reality. "Don't give in Ivysaur! Use Vine Whip one more time! Hit it hard!" Venom called out to his Pokémon, far more fired up then he was a moment ago. "Ivy! Ivysaur!" His trainer's sudden change in attitude was a bit surprising to the Seed Pokémon, but that wasn't going to stop him from winning this battle, and making his trainer proud. After shaking off the damage from the two hits Aron had given him, Ivysaur once again extended and whipped his vines right at the small Armor Pokémon.

Aron knew things were not looking very good even as Venom clenched his fists giving it a brief moment to think about what it could possibly do to turn this battle around. Venom's brief moment of inaction did not last long enough for anything to pop into the steel types head as he quickly gave Ivysaur the order to attack again. Had Aron known just how determined Venom was to prove how useful poison types were it might have surrendered ahead of time to save itself from the coming thrashing but instead it defiantly stood ready to go another round as sore as it was and it was not long before it regretted it. Ivysaur did not hold back as two vines popped out of his back speeding towards the young Aron.

Ivysaur did not hold back one bit as it smacked the young Aron repeatedly with his vines. It thought for sure that Aron would not be able to endure the repeated strikes but to its astonishment Aron somehow stood back up as Ivysaur took a break from its onslaught. Aron was falling apart at the seams but still able to fight back even in it's horrible state. It extended its claws and used Metal Claw on the Ivysaur with all of its might but it still could not come close to knocking it out. The steel type Pokemon was in trouble even before the latest round of Vine Whip but with this one what little hope it had of still winning this battle were all but dashed. It could not out speed Ivysaur nor could it out damage the larger creature even after using every ounce of strength it had.

Vemon was very close to proving just how strong poison types could be as Aron stood waiting for what would certainly be the final round. Having failed to defeat Ivysaur there was little reason for Venom to spare it nor was it part poison type. Even so it could at least say it put up a valiant fight against a stronger Pokemon as it waited for Venom to order the finishing blow.

Venom grit his teeth once again in frustration, hoping that last Vine Whip would be enough to finish the Armor Pokémon off. Still, Venom didn't let it get to him that much, since it was easy to see that one more round would do the trick. As Venom looked over at the small Steel type, part of him felt kinda bad about what he was about to order Ivysaur to do, but not bad enough to make him change his mind. However, one small, wild Steel type would be no where near enough for Venom to prove the worth of the Poison type. The Poison type trainer's goal was clear as crystal, and he knew what he had to do to make it known to the world. He had to beat the Steel type gym leader of Johto, Jasmine. And he had to do it with only Poison type Pokémon.


Unfortunately, that was still a long ways off. For now, Venom kept his focus on the Steel type right in front of him. "Okay Ivysaur, lets finish this up. Use Vine Whip one more time!" Venom made his final command for this battle, still very much wanting to move on and find a Zubat in this cave. "Ivy! Ivy...saur!" Ivysaur obeyed Venom's command, not wishing to drag this battle out any longer himself. The Seed Pokémon extended his vines, and then whipped them at the wild Aron one more time, knowing as well as his trainer that this would be the final blow.

Aron stood ready to go through one more round all but certain its defeat was at hand. Even as Venom gave the final order to attack the young dinosaur accepted its defeat as there was not way it could hold up to another attack. Even with its defeat looming Aron had put up quite a fight and it could be proud of its performance. The steel type watched as two vines came flying towards it and closed its eyes as the vines started to whip it into an unconscious state. As the steel type was dragged off by some of its buddies Ivysaur stood proudly finally claiming victory in a hard fought battle. Aron had made for quite an opponent but in the end it could not last against him. Even so the light of Ivysaurs bulb would likely draw more Pokemon their way.

Different Pokemon cries from close by signaled the approach of new challengers if Venom decided to stay and even as Ivysaur recovered from the last battle there was not telling what might pop up next. With how common Zubat were in the cave there was a very good chance Venom would run into one soon. 

Ivysaur fought well and gained 1 level. He is now level 18. 

[Venominon]

Ivysaur may have looked happy, but this victory only made Venom let out a small sigh. He was happy that they won, but in the end, that battle was nothing more then a waste of time to the ninja. Still, all the other Pokémon calls that could be heard from nearby were quick to grab Venom's attention. "C'mon Ivysaur, we still have something to do here. Our true objective is still out there, waiting for us." The Poison type trainer told his partner, before turning, and walk towards another area of the Dark Cave. At his trainer's words, Ivysaur turned to Venom, and quickly followed after him. "Saur. Ivysaur." As they headed towards another spot, they kept looking all around the cave for a Zubat, and Venom hoped they'd find one before anything else found them.

Though Venom's first encounter was not the one he was after his choice to stay and keep looking proved to be a fantastic decision as sounds of the last battle proved too much for one of the many Zubat in the cave to come and see what was going on. The bat flew straight towards the bulb on Ivysaur's back missing it by a few inches before slamming into a nearby wall. Zubat was dazed by the impact but it recovered without taking any damage as it flew towards Ivysaur and Venom again very curious as to what the pair were doing in the cave. Neither humans or Ivysaur were a common sight and the bat could not resist challenging them to a battle once it figured out how to make itself clear.

As it was fantastic at screeching it started to do just that in an attempt to get Venom to battle it nearly bursting Ivysaur's eardrums as the supersonic noise bounced off the caves walls. Whether or not Venom would figure out it wanted to battle the Zubat would certainly be giving the young trainer a reason to attack it anyway just to end the horrible noise. Before Venom could even start the battle however the bat suddenly stopped its assault on the pairs eardrums as it landed on the ground to catch it's breath. If Venom was going to try and battle the Zubat this would be the perfect time to do so before it could take off and hide in the darkness where it would be nearly impossible to find again.

The second the bat Pokémon flew out of the darkness, towards Venom and Ivysaur, Venom's eyes began to sparkle the way they always do whenever he sees a Poison type Pokémon. He wasn't even bothered by Zubat's supersonic screams, as he smiled a big smile, never taking his eyes off the wild Zubat. Once the bat Pokémon finally stopped all its shouting, Venom pointed right at it, unable to contain his excitement, and letting out some shouts of his own. "That's it Ivysaur! Its a Zubat! The very Pokémon we came here for! We have to catch this one!" Ivysaur slowly regained his composure after Zubat's screaming, and looked up at his trainer. "Ivysaur…" The seed Pokémon let out a small sigh upon seeing Venom's Poison type fan stated, but he smiled too, clearly able to see that Venom was happy at least.


Ivysaur quickly got his game face on after that, wanting to make his trainer even more happy by helping him capture the new opponent before him. "Ivy!" Just like with Aron, Venom decided to go with Ivysaur for this battle, already having a strategy in mind for capturing the wild Zubat. "Thanks Ivysaur. Lets get a new friend! Use Leech Seed now!" The ninja made the call while Zubat was grounded after all its shouting, planning to chip away at Zubat's strength before going for the capture. "Saur! Saur! Ivysaur!" Ivysaur followed up on his trainer's command, and shot several seeds from the flower on his back, all aimed right at the grounded Poison/Flying type Pokémon. As the seeds fell towards Zubat, Venom grinned, slowly sliding his hand into his pocket. Once his hand was inside, it grabbed ahold of Venom's secret weapon for capturing Zubat, but Venom would have to wait until the time was right before using it.

Despite having wings and being lighter than Ivysaur, Zubat was not able to react faster than the grass dinosaur as it began preparing for its attack. A small yellow seed grew from the top of Ivysaur's plant surrounded by a bright white light. Up until this point Zubat had no clue what was about to happen as it still had not even tried to leave the ground yet. Ivysaur took full advantage of this fact as he aimed the newly grown seed at the bat and fired it at a very high speed still attached by a vine to Ivysaur. By the time Zubat realized it was an actual attack the seed smacked it right in the forehead and started to sap its energy. Zubat quickly reacted knowing things would not end well if it allowed the seed to do too much damage.

Using a large amount of its energy the bat took off and made a beeline for Ivysaur who was still recovering from the recoil of firing the leech seed with revenge in mind as it spread out its wings and dove towards Ivysaur. Zubat's right wing scrapped across his left eye as he squealed out in pain. The Wing Attack had scored a lucky critical hit sapping nearly half of his health in a single blow. Before Zubat could celebrate however the energy sapping seed attached to its forehead really started to take it's toll as red sparks surrounded the bat as the energy was transfered from it to Ivysaur through the connecting vine. It was not as draining as the wing attack had been but it still made Zubat feel a little weaker.

As Zubat had no way to remove the seed except to win the battle it had to find a way to win and fast and its Wing Attack had done wonders for it so far. Ivysaur on the other hand had fallen quite a bit behind due to a stroke of bad luck but there was still hope that he could turn things around if his luck did not repeat itself again.

Still reeling from Zubat's attack, Ivysaur glanced at Venom, hoping his trainer had some kind of plan. "Ivysaur!" Venom heard the cries of his Pokémon, but kept his gaze locked on the Zubat, impressed by its level of strength. The ninja then decided to answer his Pokémon partner, reassuring him that he did indeed have a plan in mind. "Don't worry Ivysaur. If we were fighting to win, I would've ordered a Take Down for our first move instead. But this is a capture, and you've done your part. Ill take over from here." Venom explained to his partner, deciding that now is the perfect time to put his plan into effect, and capture the wild Zubat.


Venom finally pulled his hand out of his pocket, and revealed his secret weapon. A dusk ball. The dusk ball in his hand had been given to the Poison type trainer by a good friend, and Venom knew that even with the light coming off of Ivysaur's flower, this particular poke ball is very effective when used inside dark caves. Just like the one he and Ivysaur found themselves in now. As the Leech Seed continued to lower the bat Pokémon's strength, Venom gripped the ball in his hand, getting ready to throw it. The ninja narrows his eyes, took aim at Zubat, and then threw the dusk ball as hard as he possibly could. "Alright dusk ball, get it!"

The Zubat was so busy trying to deal with the leech seed attached to its forehead that it did not even realize that Venon was not trying to win this battle but rather to try and capture it. The bat Pokemon flew towards Ivysaur ready to deliver another Wing Attack but before the attack could connect Venom's Dusk Ball came flying towards it scoring a direct hit. The ball was in a powered up state as they were in a cave and that did not bode well for Zubat. The dusk ball fell to the ground after trapping Zubat inside before it started to wiggle. The first wiggle Zubat tried to bust open the lock but the ball did not show any signs of breaking neither did it on the second or third shake. After the third shake the ball clicked as it came to a rest.

Zubat had been captured despite the battle being pretty easy for Ivysaur. Even though Zubat had scored a lucky hit Ivysaur was still feeling pretty well all things considered. He had fought well and gained 2 levels for his victory making him a bit closer to evolving. Ivysaur was not the only one to benefit either as Venom had captured the Zuabt he was after and the bat Pokemon had escaped the effects of the leech seed as a bit of a consultation. It was not the most ideal situation for the bat Pokemon but it certainly was better than putting up with that leech seed any longer.

With the capture of Zubat complete, Venom smiles big, throwing his fist in the air. "Alright! We got Zubat!" Ivysaur smiles at this too, happy to see Venom so pleased, and relieved that the battle ended before Zubat got another hit in. Ivysaur then extends one of his vines over to the Dusk Ball, picks it up, and passes it to his trainer. "Ivy. Ivysaur." Venom takes the Dusk Ball from his partner, smiling down at it for a few seconds, before turning back to Ivysaur. "Thanks Ivysaur, you did a great job. Now get some rest." The ninja pulls out Ivysaur's Poke Ball, and holds it out to the seed Pokémon, recalling him back for a well deserved break. Venom was also very pleased that Ivysaur was able to gain some more levels and even a new move from this visit to the Dark Cave.


It was that Venom decided to give his new Pokémon and friend a try, throwing the Dusk Ball in his hand up into the air. "Zubat, come on out!" The ball burst open, and the no longer wild bat Pokémon emerged, flying into the air. "Zubat!" The Poison type trainer looked up at his new friend, smiling at him, and held out his arm. "Come here Zubat." Even though they had just been fighting a moment ago, the bat Pokémon complied, flying over, and landing upside down on Venom's arm. "Glad to have ya on the team Zubat. This might seem sudden, but how would ya like to help me win my first gym badge?" The Poison/Flying type looked back at his new master, thought for a moment, then nodded. "Bat. Zubat." Venom smiled again at Zubat's answer, making his way to the Dark Cave's exit, as Ivysaur's light began to fade away. "Great, thanks Zubat. With you on our team, its finally time to take on the Violet City gym. And once we win, it'll be our first step on our way to showing the world the true power of the Poison type." Venom declared confidently, a determined fire in his eyes. He and his new Zubat exited the Dark Cave, and made their way back to Violet City, where their first gym battle challenge was waiting for them.
