Operation: Cold Hearted Weasel (F)

As Kevin and his Pokemon reached the outskirts of Violet City they found the slippery ground a bit difficult to navigate but still less troublesome than the fog which had rolled into Cherrygrove. By no means was it fantastic weather for Samantha but as her accuracy would not suffer she could make due with it for the time being." At least here I can see more than two feet in front of my face. I can live with things being a bit slippery for now but I hope we get a heatwave soon." The weather was perfect for Eiskalt who could slide around with as much grace as an Olympic skater while everyone else struggled to not trip.

The young weasel was very excited to try and find something she might be able to battle here now that she had learned a few things from watching a number of prior battles. In this kind of weather speed would not be much of an issue for her but as she was still young Kevin had to keep a close eye on her to make sure she did not get hurt. " Ok Eiskalt, let's hope we have some better luck here for your sake. Freyja as well since she is getting pretty strong, once you both evolve things will get a lot easier for a while." Kevin just needed a small stroke of luck to get things started when Oracle picked up on something.

" I can see something heading our way coming from the tall grass over here. Given how slippery this ground is they should be here in just a few seconds." Before Kevin could react Eiskalt yet again decided to leap into action standing right outside of the grass ready to strike whatever was coming their way. Kevin was very worried about the risk she was taking and quickly ordered Oracle to protect the young Sneasel if she could not handle what was about to jump out. " Oracle please look after Eiskalt, the Pokemon here are a bit stronger and she might need help facing whatever is here."

Now that he had a backup idea in place just in case things went sour Kevin and his team eagerly awaited the next encounter. If Kevin's plan went over as well as he had hoped Eiskalt should be ready to face whatever Pokemon decided to challenge her. Oracle still worried that the slippery ground would slow her down enough to not be able to help Eiskalt if she got in trouble but kept her worries to herself for now.

Most pokemon on Route 32 had been peacefully minding their own business, attempting to avoid contact with human's and their salve like pokemon, after all the weather had been terrible recently and only as of late had things started to improve. One particular Bellsprout was not fond of happiness, after all it had been abandoned as a youngling and had taught itself to survive in the big bad world. To survive Bellsprout had trained itself to fight, not so much to defend itself, but to be able to beat other wild pokemon up and take their food. Having recently just picked on some youngling Ledyba nearby, the troublesome Bellsprout made its way through the tall grass, it was prepared to cause more havoc to others.

Bellsprout emerged from the tall grass and was faced with a human and team of pokemon partner's, Bellsprout despised nothing more in its life that humans, taking wild pokemon in and 'caring' for them was just a fancy moniker that supported slavery. Kevin and his pokemon partner's had been prepared for trouble and they would be faced with a pokemon that fit that description precisely as the wild Bellsprout approached them. Bellsprout strutted towards Kevin and pointed its leaves towards him issuing a challenge, not low on confidence the flower pokemon was prepared to fight and was all too confident of its victory.

Seeing a Bellsprout come out of the tall grass and issue a challenge was quite a blessing for Kevin as it was the perfect Pokemon for Eiskalt to try her luck on even with a few levels difference between them. Most Sneasel at her age would struggle against a Bellsprout as they would not have an ice type move yet to help them but thanks to her lineage Eiskalt did not have to worry about that at least as her Icicle Crash would be super effective against Bellsprout. " Eiskalt we might just have hit the jackpot this time, this Bellsprout is the best encounter we could have hoped for so you can get stronger and catch up with the rest of the team."

Oracle was excited as well as this might just be the first real test Eiskalt would be able to pass and even Samantha had to look on hoping for a good battle as up until this point she had been quite bored watching Kevin's younger Pokemon train while she stood by not doing anything. As Eiskalt stepped forward ready to strike Oracle and Samantha both had some advice for the young Sneasel to try and help her win. " Eiskalt aim for Bellsprout's center stalk, it is a very small target but hitting it with such a powerful move might just catch it off guard enough to stop any attack it might try against you." Samantha's advice on the other hand was far less strategic and more along the lines of showing no mercy at all.

" Whatever you aim for do not hold back at all. The harder you hit it the more of a price it will pay for trying to challenge you. It deserves to suffer for picking a fight against a Pokemon with a type advantage." While the two canines were quite helpful to some degree in their advice Kevin just wanted to make sure Eiskalt did not get hurt. " Eiskalt do be careful as you are still a lower level even with your type advantage. Use Icicle Crash and try to make it flinch so you can get a free turn out of your attack." Eiskalt by now was quite fed up with all the talking and just wanted to strike before the Bellsprout could gain the upper hand. She extended her claws and started to run forward with no plans to hold back on the plant Pokemon.

As the others waited for the results they hoped nothing would go wrong so Eiskalt could finally win a battle.

The barren cold terrain made it the perfect hunting ground for Eiskalt, who although was still just a juvenile, innately felt right at home in such a climate. Right above the wild Bellsprout was a sizeable tree, devoid of its leaves at this time of the year but in their place, lining each of its gnarled branches, was a row of spear-like icicles. The young Sneasel instinctively saw that this could be used to her advantage and nodded at the wise advice of her companions and mentors in Samantha and Oracle.

Eiskalt took in a lungful of glacial air and blew it towards the row of icicles, which came tumbling down on the unsuspecting Bellsprout. As a Grass type Pokemon, susceptible to frost, it sustained heavy damage and became buried beneath the ice. For a second it appeared as though the Pokemon would not be able to launch a counter attack but this Bellsprout was different to other Bellsprout. Abandoned and ostracised by other Bellsprout since an early age, it had endured the harshest of winters and the most brutal droughts. At level 5, it once wandered around Azalea Town at the peak of a record-breaking drought. It's bell-shaped head was so parched at the time it had shriveled up like prune. Yet this Bellsprout was the one to travel 40 days and 40 nights on its spindly legs across scorched desolate plains not even Cacnea would survive in.

Just as Eiskalt looked gleefully back at her trainer, thinking she'd won, a long tendril burst through the mound of snow where her opponent lay and whipped her across the body. Eiskalt was flung backwards by the force of the blow. It seemed like she had experienced her first taste of a real battle.

Eiskalt was quite proud of herself though she was disappointed that she had allowed Bellsprout to score a hit against her. Her species was not known for its durability and it really showed with the amount of damage vine whip caused her. Kevin was a bit worried as both Pokemon were within the range of getting knocked out though Eiskalt's higher speed convinced him that the risk was worth it as she would gain quite a few levels if the risk paid off. Still he could not help himself to caution the young Sneasel as she was really in a uncomfortable spot for such a young Pokemon.

" Eiskalt you are doing well but that vine whip took a lot out of you. One more hit like that and you will be in trouble. I do believe in you but you cannot allow yourself to take another hit in your condition." The young Sneasel was hardly paying him any attention as she wanted to defeat this Bellsprout at any cost but she did hear just enough of his advice to know that she had to win in this round to guarantee a victory instead of hoping for a lucky break to last for a third round.

" I do not think Eiskalt can focus on anything but winning at the moment. I give her credit for determination but we do need to work on other parts of her personality before she gets hurt. Maybe if she wins this battle it might help a bit." As Oracle hoped the young Sneasel would not go too far Samantha was enjoying the battle quite a bit more as both Pokemon had given it their all in sn exciting slug match. She could not help but to chuckle watching the two Pokemon get ready for another round before she gave the Sneasel more advice.

" Eiskalt you need to work on your dodge but your aim is impeccable, aim for its eyes with your claws this time to deal the finishing blow." Kevin was not hoping to mame the Bellsprout as it did seem to have some experience in fighting tough foes but he still was hoping Eiskalt would find a way to win. " Eiskalt lets try and end this battle on a high note. Try your Scratch attack and lets hope it has enough power to bring Bellsprout down." As she acknowledged her orders the young Sneasel charged forward with her claws extended. She was going to try her best to win with this last strike.

Eiskalt could sense her opponent had almost succumbed to the cold. While the Vine Whip packed quite a bit of punch she nonetheless has the superior speed and dashed forwards and slashed the Bellsprout across its bulbous head with her harp claws. This proved too much for the Bellsprout who had survived the harshest of weather but not a Sneasel's claws. The grass Pokemon sunk into the snow and disappeared without a trace!

As the Bellsprout disappeared Eiskalt could hardly contain her joy at winning her first real battle without help and could feel her strength increase as her opponent was quite a good source of experience. As proud as she was Oracle was even more joyful as she knew how hard the young Sneasel had worked to finally win a battle. " Excellent job Eiskalt, that Bellsprout was a strong foe but your Icicle Crash and Scratch combo really paid off. There is still plenty of training we need to do but this was an important first step." Samantha was happy for her as well however she wanted them to encounter another foe as soon as they could.

" Congratulations Eiskalt, I have seen better but for a first win you did not do half bad. Once we toughen you up that Icicle Crash will be very useful when combined with our other attacks." Kevin also knew how useful the combination of all their attacks could be especially in a triple battle but until Eiskalt caught up with Samantha and Oracle's level she would not be very much help as strong as her attack was. Freyja also still needed to train more as well so he could have a backup plan just in case the situation called for it. He also needed to train Panzer the Beldum he received from Marchbaby as well but for now Freyja and Eiskalt were his main priority.

" That was a great second round Eiskalt, Scratch will not be very useful once you get stronger but for now its reliability makes for a good backup to Icicle Crash. I do believe your species can learn Night Slash after you evolve which will be vastly superior but we will cross that road when we get there." Just as he was about to suggest looking for something else to battle Oracle picked up on something else approaching them. The Icicle Crash earlier had likely been heard by something else nearby but in this case that might actually be a good thing. As they waited to see what was approaching Eiskalt started to sharpen her claws on a nearby tree ready for another battle.

" If we do not come across anything too high leveled I will gladly let you have another go Eiskalt. Freyja is a bit higher level right now anyways and catching up with her will be a good thing. To be safe though we must wait to see what would like to challenge us this time." Even if she was not guaranteed to be in the next battle Eiskalt was ready for another fight.

A wild Pidgey was sheltering in the tree overhead as Eiskalt began sharpening her claws. The reverberations were enough to send the tiny bird Pokemon hurtling out of its nest and it flopped down onto the soft snow in front of the Sneasel. The Pidgey cooed at Eiskalt, fearful of what its natural predator might do.

Kevin could hardly believe his luck as the Pidgey appeared as it was weak against ice types just as the Bellsprout before it. To make things even better Eiskalt was now strong enough to match the level of most of the Pokemon in the area making it a bit less risky to use her without help while still gaining valuable experience despite the lower risk and Kevin had no question about which Pokemon he was going to use this time around. " Luck is really on our side today, two Pokemon weak to ice type moves in a row is a blessing to raise Eiskalt so she can catch up with the others."

The young Sneasel was thrilled to get another chance to battle after winning her first real battle. Her Icicle Crash had proven such a valuable egg move that Kevin also had decided on which move to use well before he even could think about trying to capture the Pidgey instead. " Eiskalt I think you already know the plan here but in the unlikely case you do not know yet I would like you to use Icicle Crash on that Pidgey. I want to see just how much stronger you have become." He said rather sarcastically as he doubted Eiskalt would need to be given orders in this case.

Oracle and Samantha did not have any suggestions this time around as Pidgey were such a common Pokemon that they were easy to bring down without much strategy especially if Icicle Crash worked as well as it did against Bellsprout. Freyja tried to signal her own desire to fight the Pidgey but Eiskalt was way to fast for her to even try and get into position and as she did not want to pick a fight against something with razor sharp claws either so she just watched hoping she would get a turn soon. With nothing else to stop her Eiskalt started to make her move as Freyja pawed at Kevin to get his attention a moment later.

" I know you want to grow stronger as well Freyja, as soon as Eiskalt gets a little bit stronger we will try and find something for you to battle. You are a bit stronger than Eiskalt right now and she really needs the experience." Right after he explained the situation to Freyja he turned back towards Eiskalt who was just sevonds away from unleashing her attack. If things went their way she could gain quite a bit of experience for her efforts.

Eiskalt's predatory instincts kicked in immediately and scrambled up the tree where the Pidgey had been nesting. Rattling the bough directly above Pidgey's position, the Sneasel sent icicle shards crashing down on her opponent burying instantly under the ice. The little bird didn't even stand a chance as Eiskalt emerged victorious. She looked towards Kevin for approval hoping he'd be impressed by such a quick victory.

Seeing Eiskalt move so quickly nearly brought a tear to Kevin's eye as he was so proud of the young Sneasel for so quickly defeating the Pidgey after struggling to gain the strength needed to stand a chance in a battle. She still had a lot to learn but from what he had seen so far she had the heart needed to fit on his team and once she had the strength he had no doubts that she would be a big help. " Eiskalt certainly knows how to put on a show, very few ice types can move with such grace and power at such a young age and most dark types would not come close to her physical strength."

With the battle over Kevin could hardly wait to see how Eiskalt would fare against any of the other Pokemon in the area to see if she would be ready to move on or if she was strong enough already to leave and try their luck elsewhere. Oracle and Samantha were still trying to find some way to pass the time until they were able to train more and after finding a few sticks on the ground they tossed it up in the air hitting them with Aura Sphere and Psychic trying to see who could break the most before the next battle ended. With them occupied Kevin focused on Eiskalt who was waiting for something else to head her way so she could try her luck.

Within moments the young Sneasel heard a nearby patch of grass rustle and she extended her claws waiting to see what was there ready to tear the approaching guest to shreds the moment she was sure she could handle it. " Oh we might just be getting lucky yet again, we have had quite a good streak for training you Eiskalt so lets hope our good fortunes continue to shine. By the look on your face I think you have even learned a new move after that last battle." If things kept going how they were she would get a chance to try it out in the next battle. While they waited Kevin turned to face Samantha and Oracle to see them in a dead heat in their stick breaking match. If nothing else it was entertaining to watch two powerful canines break sticks of all things to pass the time while Eiskalt refused to focus on anything but the incoming battle.

" Snea" She said in a nasty tone trying to get Kevin to focus on her again.

The team stayed long enough in the place for the ice starting to melt. Soon the slippery surface beneath them turned to slush, and the trees around them was dripping with water. Out of the rustling grass crept a brown and yellow furred creature with a wide teeth-filled mouth. It gnashed its teeth together and stared right at them one by one with a curious tilt to its head.

The rather unfriendly looking Yungoos looked like the perfect target for Eiskalt to battle to truly test her skills. Fate had other ideas however as right before she could step forward and attack the normal type Pokemon Clamps busted out of his Pokeball and rushed out in front of the young Sneasel as he scrapped the blades on his arm ready for a battle. Though it was not the plan Kevin had at the moment he had not really had a chance to use the Scyther very much as as he did promise to raise him for Marchbaby this seemed like the perfect chance to do so.

" As much as I hate to do this to you Eiskalt I do think Clamps here will be the better choice in this case, maybe you might learn a thing or two by watching him battle as you both rely heavily on speed for your fighting style." Clamps did not even wait for Kevin to order an attack before he started to wave his scythe like arms around in rapid succession creating a vacuum of energy that the bug type prepared to fire the moment it was ordered to do so. Kevin was rather impressed as Vacuum Wave was not a common move but in this case it would be very useful against a Yungoos.

" No point in trying to draw this out, Clamps use Vacuum Wave on Yungoos." He said as the mantis fired off his attack hoping for a quick victory.

Clamps used Vacuum wave, before Yungoos so much as managed to blink in surprise. The Yungoos was sent flying back by the sudden push and disappeared out of sight in the tall grass.

Clamps won and gets a lvl! With multiplier it gives 1 lvl more and he grows to lvl 23

As Clamps made quick work of his opponent Kevin was pretty impressed by the Scyther's quick reflexes and speed. He might not have battled a very powerful foe but it was still a great show of the mantis's potential. " Great work Clamps, fairy soon you should be ready to evolve and then I can take you back to Marchbaby. I am sure he will be quite pleased once he sees you as a Scizor. I wonder how the young lad is doing since we last met?" Oracle on the other hand was thinking about her sister Vör who she had not seen in a while.

" I bet he is doing great with Vör at his side, I do wonder what she has been up to lately? I am sure we will find out soon enough. In the meantime I do suppose we should keep training until we are ready to face the next challenge." Out of everything said after the battle that was the one thing Samantha cared about as she started to complain about the weather again. " About now training sounds great, the sooner we can get done with that and fine a nice dry, hot place for me to relax the better. If any of you get me any more wet than I already am I will make you suffer."

Trying to get the young vixens mind off of doing anything too violent Kevin started to search for someone else to battle while trying to keep Samantha dry. " I can carry you if you would like Samantha, it will keep you dry but I cannot guarantee it will be a comfortable ride, maybe the weather will improve soon so you can relax." Samantha tilted her nose up at the thought of being carried at her age but she would welcome a change to the weather. " Anytime a drought wants to happen is fine by me, I need a blazing hot day after putting up with this atrocious weather."

Just as she finished complaining a patch of grass nearby started to rustle and Kevin saw this as a great chance to lighten the mood a bit. " OK everyone be ready for whatever jumps out. Depending on what it is either Eiskalt or Clamps will handle it while the rest of us observe. Either way I do hope for an interesting battle to pass a bit of time." Eiskalt and Clamps then got into position both ready to strike once Kevin made up his mind over which one to use.
