Appearance: Ulysse is short, only 5”, but has incredible posture which was likely developed as a compensation for her height. She has smooth tan skin but has several old scars on her knees and knuckles from fights, as well as a scar on her collarbone. She is fit but not overly muscular, she has nice curves. Ulysse has several tattoos, the most visible are the tattoos of a liepard and a houndoom on her upper left arm and a tiny drifloon on her wrist but she also has a Xerneas and Yvettal battling on her back. She has dark brown eyes, thick eyebrows, a round squashed nose. She has several ear piercings, and an eyebrow piercing. She has long brown hair shaved on the right side, the ends of her hair are dyed bright red— she used to have a full head of bob-length red hair but she’s growing it out.
Ulysse has a small wardrobe but all her clothes are very high quality, either from Lumiose City boutiques or handmade\altered herself. Her style is very punk rock inspired, mixing textured blacks with bold colors. She still has her red pantsuit uniform from her time with Team Flare, she is especially proud of her black sequined tie, but since leaving the gang she tries not to wear the whole outfit at once, choosing to instead wear the individual pieces with other items. Some other favorite outfit items she owns are black jeans that have a studded hem, a well-worn leather jacket, a silver holographic moto-jacket, a black jean vest, with hand-embroidered patches, a styled noivern t-shirt, and dark holographic lace-up boots. She also believes accessorizing is the most important part of an outfit and has an impressive collection of chokers and other jewelry.
Personality:
To the outside observer, Ulysse is charismatic but not quick to make friends. She has a snarky and blunt sense of humor that sometimes edges into meanness which she is rarely apologetic for. Ulysse prefers to be part of the crowd or all on her own and doesn’t enjoy being the focus of attention unless it’s because she’s winning a fight. However, she gets into fights often. She’s aggressive and never hesitant to stand up for herself or for the few people she does care about; she is very willing to get physical for those she is loyal to. Ulysse’s fierce qualities are result of being bullied at a young age, she was picked on for being tiny and having weird interests and now she lashes out at any who dare to judge her. She’s resilient and unyielding when it comes to her values.
When left on her own, Ulysse is quiet and thoughtful. She likes to work on projects that require careful delicate focus such a embroidery and sewing. She once dreamed of being a fashion designer and being part of Lumiose City’s high fashion scene, but she was never confident enough in her skills to pursue it. Despite her abrasive demeanor, Ulysse has a deep desire to be accepted and loved by others. She joined Team Flare because their messages of creating a beautiful world and promises of comradely were aligned with her own hopes. Ulysse also has a deep love for Pokémon, she appreciates how they return kindness tenfold and some of her closest connections have been with her family’s Pokémon and the Pokémon she was given during her time with Team Flare.
History:
Ulysse’s early childhood was spent in the seaside bicycle-loving city of Cyllage. She had two fathers. One of her fathers, Bernard, was a race-winning bicyclist while the other, Pierre, ran the city’s clothing boutique. Both fathers shared their interests with Ulysse as a child, taking her on weekend bike rides and teaching her to sew. They also taught Ulysse about how important and amazing Pokémon are; the family had three Pokémon in their home— a vivillion named Starlight, a helioptile named Sunbeam, and a dragalge named Deepsea. Ulysse loved to spend time at the beach with the family Pokémon and her fathers were certain she would one day become a Pokémon trainer. Life in Cyllage was happy and easy and if Ulysse had known where her future was headed she would have protested leaving it with her entire being, however, young Ulysse could not tell the future. When her fathers divorced, Ulysse chose to leave Cyllage City for Lumiose City with Pierre.
At first, Lumiose City was exciting. Ulysse loved the hustle and bustle and sheer amount of people that lived and passed through Lumiose. Her father Pierre would take her to his fashion shows which she would absorb whole-heartedly, watching the catwalk and fervently sketching designs into her notebooks. But eventually, the charm of being in a new place was worn away. Ulysse’s new school was full of bullies. The fashion industry turned out to be harsher and crueler than Ulysse had ever realized when her only exposure was the tiny Cyllage boutique; Pierre threw himself into his work trying to meet endlessly increasing standards which he was never able to quite reach. Ulysse found herself feeling alone despite being surrounded by thousands of people. It was awful.
Upon graduating high school, Ulysse found herself feeling aimless. She had set aside any dreams to be a pokemon trainer, choosing instead to go to school in order to pursue an education and career in fashion but after seeing what it had done to Pierre after years in the Lumiose City fashion scene those hopes were squashed too. That’s when Lysander and Team Flare found her. Their goal was to make the world a better more beautiful place. They promised she would make friends— no— family! They gave her her own Pokémon, a purrloin and houndour to train and care for. They had extremely snazzy red suits... For awhile, Team Flare became Ulysse’s new family. They gave her all the things she needed from a home to a future to fight for. Ulysse’s purrloin and houndour, which she named Amethyst and Opal, grew and eventually evolved into a liepard and houndoom and the three of them were unseperable. Ulysse was happy.
But the happiness didn’t last. Eventually, Team Flare’s shadier doings lead to the organization’s downfall. Ulysse was horrified to learn of Lysander’s true plans when they were revealed. She had been fine with picking the occasional fight in the street and even the robberies of factories, but genocide? No way. But her horror was too little too late, before she could even fully understand what was going on, Ulysse found herself arrested for her actions under Team Flare. Amethyst and Opal were confiscated— it turned out they had been stolen from a nursery, and Ulysse was set to go to trial with other Team Flare grunts. It was her estranged father Bernard who paid her bail and got Ulysse out of jail and out of Kalos. He gave her a ticket to Johto, his home region, and an address and then told her to go on the run. To get a new start. A new life.
Now Ulysse is starting from scratch in a region far from home— aimless once more but determined to do better this time.
Goals:
Ulysse is searching for purpose. She wants to explore and eventually to find a good place to settle down. She wants to make new connections and friends. She wants Pokémon companions that will stay by her side.
She just wants to be happy.
Other Info:
Ulysse is pansexual.
She is still in communication with close friends in Team Flare and some have even told her about connections they have with Team Rocket in Johto. Ulysse is wary of this and isn’t planning to immediately rush into joining another gang but she’s aware that it would be an easy thing for her to fall back on.
Ulysse is a very speedy bike rider but she’s an even better roller skater.
