"Everything I do is Bittersweet, you can tell me secrets that I'll probably repeat,"
Name: Blaine Artermaine
Speech: #503675
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Trainer Type: Trainer/Magician
Hometown: Hearthome City
"I'm not trying to hurt ya' I just love to speak,"
Appearance: Quite the gangly boy in his youth, his school nickname was "Stringbean." Now, while Blaine is still a pretty long boy at six feet tall he isn't quite as much the stringbean, consistent trips to workout sessions assured that while he is no beefcake, he has two feet to stand on when it comes to his stance of not being as lanky as other people are convinced he is. While he can stand on them however, his feet don't quite get covered by the blanket at night. He's got an Olive complexion due to many summer trips to Unova for their lovely beaches and such, and it meshes quite well with his Maroon colored eyes that almost seem purple in the correct lighting,. and his ginger hair (He would like to assure you that no matter how long it is, he is in fact a man). He doesn't really compete with some of the better looking trainers out there, but he wouldn't really consider himself ugly either.
Despite coming from a wealthy family, you would never be able to tell just by looking at him that he comes from money, unless you happen to notice his black corduroy jacket, normally worth hundreds. That he...quickly 'defaced' in his father's opinon with several pins and patches which he called 'Improving upon perfection'. Plus, the roomy sleeves have plenty of room for all of his tricks and treasures. He wears a normal white T-shirt below as he often keeps his jacket open. He wears baggy pants which he thinks gives him better room to move, along with a pair of heavy brown work boots. Luckily, he's no ninja or spy, because it would be very easy to see him coming.
For street performances, he wears a top hat that he smooshes down in his bag, so while it isn't the best looking, it's what he refers to as his 'Lucky Hat' and refuses to be corrected or told otherwise.
Top Hats.
Are.
Magical.
Aside from the riff-raff which is the rest of his clothing, he keeps a pendant in the shape of a Latias tucked under his coat. It belongs to his mother and she told him it was for his 'protection' for a safe journey.
Personality:
If you asked his mother would tell you that Blaine is quite the 'character'. Now what that means, Blaine never really figured out, but he certainly takes it as a good thing because no one has ever told him otherwise. Blaine was often pinned as the class clown in school. Smiling, cracking jokes, trying to pull coins out from behind people's ears, but usually just pulling hair instead. He went to a private school originally, but was eventually moved to public school because the stiff school that his parents were sending him to said that he was much too much of a distraction to have in their classes. He has an infectious smile as some describe it, and tends to find the positive in every negative situation when at possible.
Cocky, Sometimes Oblivious to other people and their feelings, he says things without thinking, and those things usually get him into a lot of trouble. He can occasionally manage to hurt people with the things that he said, but the truth is that he honestly just doesn't think that what he's saying is anything but honest. He regrets this the most about himself, because he doesn't know what to do when someone else cries, other than pat them from a distance with a mop if it wasn't his fault, or apologize profusely if it is. He means well most of the time, but he just doesn't seem to be able to see the line between what is okay to say and what's not sometimes.
Please don't ask him if you look nice in that dress...please?
He was spoiled as a child, and while he's slowly learning that the outside world doesn't feast on grand meals every night and sometimes he'll be lucky to live off a can of beans for a night, he often makes comments on certain food and other things that well...only someone who never really understood what struggle growing up was would understand the logic behind. Other than that, Blaine has a big heart and big dreams, and his parents are vastly divided on whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.
History:
Blaine was born the youngest of two children in Hearthome city to Kristian and Talouse Artermaine. His older sister was always the very thing his father wished he would be. Successful, beautiful, a born star in the world of the aristocrats. Many thought that Blaine would be jealous of his older sister Tammie, but he wasn't. What he really wished he had was the same approval his father gave to Tammy. But according to his father, there was something wrong with Blaine. He didn't learn, he didn't want to same lessons in decorum that his sister had, and often would sit through them with crossed arms and plenty of negative things to say about how the food looked and how it was stupid that they had to use a different fork for salad than everything else. He learned all of these things, albiet not willingly, but he often forgot what was what as he got older.
His mother doted on him, but his father was a little different. While his mother waived off every note he brought home from school about bad behavior, his father would ground him. His mother always felt sorry for him, but he never let on that he was as affected by his dad's lack of love than he actually was. He'd just smile at her and let her know that his dad would come around.
He didn't have a lot of friends when he was eventually sent to public school due to his fooling around in private school, so he began to practice magic tricks after he and his mother watched a street show in Heathome. He decided that perhaps that was something he wanted to do, not run a business, or whatever it was people with his wealth did. But he wanted to be bigger than a street magician. Shows sold out everywhere, grand entrances and exits! It sounded like the life he wanted to live.
When his dad found out, he burned his tricks in the fire. His father became more strict in his punishments, often not allowing him to go out and play, as he grew older taking away his phones and laptops. But the last straw came when his father brought him an expensive jacket for his birthday. Blaine decided he wanted it to be more 'him' and decked it out with pins and patches of various Pokemon and foundations. This enraged his father, who kicked him out of the house and told him not to come home until he understood what it meant to be an Artermaine.
It broke his heart that his father would throw him out, and he didn't really know where to go, but thankfully both Tammy and his mother felt sorry for him. They arranged to send him to Johto, to get a first Pokemon from the professor there and head out on his own Journey. While he was unsure he was ready for that, Tammy reminded him that traveling would not only keep him off the streets, but it would also give him a chance to practice his magic tricks.
And just like that, Blaine was stoked for his new adventure.
