Bishop needed to stay close to Cherrygrove for awhile. There were a few things he needed to take care of before heading to the next city and his confrontation with the gym leader there. That didn't mean though that he didn't get restless during the down time. That was how he found himself to be out on a walk in the forest on the outskirts of town.
Things seemed peaceful enough and he was enjoying the chance to sight see a bit. Then an odd sound came to his ears? Was that a kid's voice? Yelling for help? Suddenly on the alert Bishop sprinted towards the sound and pushed his way thru the bushes till he could see what was going on. Apparently a small pack of Houndour were menacing a small boy. He couldn't allow that to happen.
"Hey! You Houndour! Pick on someone your own size!"
He gathered his pokeballs and prepared to fight if the pack didn't relent. Somehow he didn't think they would though. It looked like they wanted a fight and he would see to it that they got it!

Jimmy hadn't intended for this to happened. All he wanted to do was read his book. He hadn't expected the menacing snarls, holding his three Pokemon close as a group of hungry looking Houndour advanced towards them. All they had wanted was a nice day outside, his Pokemon wanted to play, not this. So he did the only thing he felt he could do, scream out for help. The Houndour were unaware anyone was going to help the boy and his tasty, tasty snacks. "Please help me! They're going to eat my Pokemon, please!" his prayers weren't unheard, and someone quickly skidded into view. "Oh thank Arceus..." he murmured when Bishop appeared. The leader of the Houndour flicked an ear, and when she turned to face the offending sound, so did her two companions. They wanted nothing more than some food. After all, the three of them led some very hard lives, though you wouldn't know it by looking at them. And as Bishop would soon find, they didn't intend to battle him one by one. Triple battle? Could this trainer handle them. Jimmy stuttered as he voiced his thoughts aloud. "A-Are you sure you'll be okay mister? My P-Pokemon might be small, but they can help you if you need it!" he said, motioning to the three choices. His Azurill, his Budew, or his little Chingling. They needed to be brave, just like the man that had come to their aid.
Helena, Havoc, and Abyss (Level 10) have rounded to fight you!
You have the choice of assistance from Jimmy's Budew, Azurill, or Chingling!

It was a less than ideal situation. The three Houndour were menacing a little boy and his pokemon. Still, this was preferable to another run in with the Rockets. Hungry pokemon were one thing, humans doing bad deeds WITH pokemon was quite another. At least the hungry fire types had an excuse. Not that he would let them hurt the boy or eat his pokemon though.
"Don't worry, my team has this," he said, hoping to sound encouraging. "You and your pokemon try to take cover."
The boy was scared half to death from the sound of his voice. Bishop's heart immediately went out to him. Hopefully he and his little friends would do as he said and stay safe. His team should be able to manage this. Speaking of which he had to let them out of their pokeballs now before the Houndour decided to take a bite out of him!
"Ember, Blossom, Pug....it's time to dance!"
With practiced ease he released his Charmeleon, Pikachu and Mankey into the fray.
"Ember, use your scratch attack! Blossom mud shot the closest one. Pug go for a low kick on yours!"
His own fire type couldn't really use her own Ember attack as it would do very little to other fire types. Pug and Blossom's attacks though should be very effective. Hopefully the combination would be more than his opponents could take.

As Jimmy managed to hide behind a nearby tree the Houndour were entirely focused on Bishop and his Pokemon as they were a far more considerable threat and without dealing with him first the Houndour would never be able to enjoy a tasty meal. The canines were not expecting him to have stronger Pokemon than Jimmy and seeing a Charmeleon, Pikachu, and shiny Mankey was not very encouraging for the trio of troublemakers however they were not going to back down from their plans just because the meal would not be as easy to grab as they had anticipated. Ember was faster than any of them however and before the Houndour could take a single step closer she extended her claws and rushed towards the closest Houndour named Helena. Within seconds the Houndour had found itself the victim of a Scratch attack that had drained a considerable amount of her health but the bad news was just getting started as Blossom followed up with an attack of her own. She scooped up a pile of mud and flung it at Havoc the Houndour in the middle scoring a direct hit and covering his legs with the sticky mud in the process. The mud was so thick it slowed him down along with sapping his energy but he was just a bit too tough to fall to a single strike. Just when things seemed like they could not get worse the trio of Houndour finally got to make use of their turns to cause some chaos of their own. Helena let out a deep Howl to increase her attack and to boost the morale of the squad as things were not looking great at the moment and they needed a sign that it would turn around while seconds later Abyss used Ember on Pug causing him a massive amount of damage barely able to hang on. Pug was not going to let his good fortune go to waste however as he ran towards Abyss right after his Ember attack and used Low Kick to put the mutt in his place. Like the other Houndour however Abyss was just a bit too strong and he was able to endure the powerful attack. Havoc finally got a chance of his own to attack and to get some revenge on Blossom by trying an Ember attack. The attack was not quite as powerful as the Mud Shot he had been hit by but it did cause a fair amount of damage. Jimmy was starting to feel a bit more confident as he peered around the tree but as he did not want to attract any unwanted attention he did not say anything. He just prayed Bishop would be able to deal with these Houndour once and for all. Wild Pokémon Battle

These Houndour were tough! Bishop could admire that of course. He could even want to catch one to add to his party. For the moment though he couldn't spare the time to think about that. This trio was dangerous and he would have to make sure the little boy and his pokemon were safe before he could start worrying about his own plans.
That was complicated a bit by the events that unfolded in the first seconds of the fight. He had underestimated the strength of the opposition and it looked like poor Pug was in over his head...as if they hard headed Mankey would ever admit to such a thing! But Bishop had learned that lesson the hard way with Rex. He wasn't going to let another pokemon get clobbered in an unwinnable fight.
"Pug, your coming back!" he said, recalling the rather unwilling fighting type. Pug argued all the way back into his pokeball. Bishop would have to make it up to him later with some extreme training. His Mankey always enjoyed that.
"Xena, your up. Use Astonish on the Houndour (Abyss)."
His other two pokemon were doing pretty well for themselves. It was time to seal the deal on those fronts of the battle.
"Ember, Scratch your opponent! (Helena) Blossom, use your Electro Ball on yours! (Havoc)"
He felt rather like a conductor directing a symphony. It was a thrill to be in the middle of things and battling. Even more so to be doing it in a good cause.

Jimmy was beside himself as the battle continued, and he held his Pokemon as his Azurill weeped quietly to itself. He hoped Bishop and his Pokemon could handle things. "You guys need to watch this." Jimmy urged his Pokemon softly. "One day I'm sure you guys can be as brave as his Pokemon are, too." Jimmy assured them as the battle raged on over the safety of his tree. Ember heard Bishop's command and was quick to move forwards towards Helena. Helena yelped as hard claws raked across her chest and she stumbled back, growling lowly to herself as her eyes locked onto Bishop. Humans were all the same, they would never understand why she did the things she did. She needed to eat, as did those who were waiting. Not to be left out, Blossom was quick to hold out her tail, crying out as she formed a large ball of electricity at the tip of her lightning bolt and launching it foward at Havoc, who didn't have enough time to move as he was thrown backwards by the force. He stood up again slowly, growling lowly at Blossom. He would get his revenge somehow. As Pug was returned, Abyss had just launched a hail of embers when the new combatant entered the fight, and Xena cried as her wing was singed by some of the flames. She chirped once, attempting to do what Bishop told her, however, she seemed distressed when it didn't work, and Abyss only snickered, his dark type origins preventing her ghost type attack from working. From his mouth came a deep purple smog, and Xena coughed, along with Blosson, who Havoc had also launched a smog attack at. However while Xena seemed fine afterwards, Blossom stumbled slightly, the Pikachu's face taking a purple hue. Helena, unsure of how to follow up, launched a few embers towards the Charmeleon, who could have laughed the attack off. The battle wasn't going well for the Houndour as they had hoped, but they weren't about to give up. It looks like Clear skies! He could hear the boy talking in a low tone to his pokemon but couldn't over hear what was being said. It sounded like words of encouragement though so that lightened Bishop's heart a little. Jimmy and his little friends were alright for the time being so he could focus entirely on winning this battle. It seemed to be going well, for the most part, but he had to double down now and try to win this thing before anyone got hurt!
Speaking of being hurt his poor Pikachu was not looking well. Internally he fretted over that for a moment. She might get knocked out if she continued in the fight. Then again her ground based attack was super effective in this case and she was faster than the Houndour were. He would need to leave her in and try to take out some of the opposing pokemon before this got out of hand.
"Your doing great Ember! Scratch your opponent again (Helena)!
Blossom, use your enemy (Havoc)is weak! Use Mud Shot and take him down!
And Xena, use Fury attack against yours (Abyss)!"
It looked to him like two of the three should fall this time and one of his might. While he didn't like to put it in those terms in a fight like this he had to. It wasn't just about their training or adventure. They had an innocent to protect here!
"Hold on you guys. We almost have this!"

You could give the hounds a medal for not giving up at this point. Havoc and Helena were just barely hanging on at this point, and Abyss was the last one who could really stand on his paws. Despite that, they were still fighting as strongly as they could against Bishop's Pokemon. But it wasn't enough for Bishop and his team to condone them trying to grab a little lunch, it seemed. The little bud was at least counted as a salad right? Vegetarian was supposed to be cruelty free. But...perhaps that only applied to salad without a face, or the capability of screaming. Bah, who wanted a sentient salad anyway? The plump little mouse had looked a lot tastier. But perhaps instead of thinking about her salad that could have been, Helena should have been paying attention to Ember, who raked claws across her face, and with a soft irritated growl, she fell to the floor in a heap. Havoc jumped in front of her, as if to protect her, but it might have been smarter to run in the other direction, because a shot of mud almost as if it had come from a cannon blasted him in the side, knocking him out cold with his paws resting in a dainty way beneath his head. He winced but didn't get back up, and while he had been more focused than Helena, the thought of getting away while they could never occurred to them. Ember and Blossom looked at each other, though Blossom's head was spinning as the Poison continued to seep through her system, and they both turned their attention to Xena. The little bird was clearly irritated by Abyss, who was still taunting from the other side of the field, and she chiruuuped in anger, more than happy to deliver upon Bishop's command. Her beak glowed brightly as it suddenly increased in size and she rolled towards the lone pooch, striking once, twice, then three times as Havoc yowled in pain, casting an ember at he that caused her to chirp in pain and fall to the ground mid-flight. Slowly, she got back up, spreading her wings in distaste at the singed cotton down feathers. But, at least this was almost over, right? It looks like Clear skies! It was almost over but something was eating at Bishop. The Houndour seemed to be acting oddly. Shouldn't the one remaining have fled when his friends went down? And why were they so aggressive to begin with? it wasn't like this was a wild area with truly feral pokemon. The ones who lived nearby should have experience with humans being this close to the city. To be acting so wild seemed rather out of character.
Oh well, he could ponder that once the fight was over. There was only the one remaining and he seemed ready to fall over at any second. Bishop's pokemon just needed to give him a little push.
"Xena, Fury Attack again!"
Even as he gave the order he pulled a full heal out of his pack and began to administer it to Blossom. She wasn't looking at all well and he wanted to get the poison out of her system. Ember was out of position to be much help but it looked like Xena had things pretty well in hand without the help.

Abyss knew he was outnumbered, but he couldn't give up. But as the bird swung down on him again, beak blazing, he fell to the ground. The other two bolted up suddenly, but instead of attacking, they bolted, one of them pausing to nudge the recently fallen Houndour to his feet before they bolted off in three different directions. They were stubborn, not stupid after all. Jimmy sighed in relief when they were finally gone, and emerged from his hiding place. "Thank you so much Sir! I don't know what they would have done to me and my Pokemon if you hadn't come along!" He said cheerfully. He was sure it was probably nothing good. "Sorry, my name is Jimmy, your Pokemon were great out there. I think it inspired mine to work harder too. Isn't that right you guys?" he said to the three Pokemon, who each chimed cheerfully, also in thanks to the older Pokemon who had rescued them. Jimmy fished something from his bag and held out a bell to Bishop, which made a warm chiming noise as he placed it in his hand. "That's a soothe bell, if you have a Pokemon wear it, it will make it super happy! Some Pokemon only evolve if they're friendly enough with you! I want you to have it, as thanks for saving us!" he said. That was when he gave his Pokemon another look. "I know its sort of sudden, but would you mind maybe taking one of these little guys with you? They'd be able to learn a lot more with you than they would with me. But if you take one, I'll stay with the other two, and we'll work really hard to be as strong as you and your Pokemon!" he promised. After the choice had been made, he looked out to the path. "I'm a little worried about those Houndour. I know they tried to attack me but...there was just something sad about them." he said to Bishop. "It was like they were doing what they did because they had to, not because they wanted to. Don't you think that was strange?" You defeated the Houndour! Pug grew to Level 7 for his part in the battle and gained +1 Happiness!
Xena grew to Level 13 and gained +1 Happiness! Xena is trying to learn Safeguard but already knows 4 moves. Get rid of a move to make room for Safeguard?

Bishop watched the Houndour run away with a thoughtful frown. Something was definitely not right with the way they were acting. He was in fact planning to give chase to learn more when Jimmy came out of hiding. Seeing that the young boy was safe brought a smile back to his face. Then, the touching nature of his gifts gave the older trainer pause. He was deeply moved by the kindness and trust Jimmy was putting in him.
"Thank you Jimmy. That's very generous of you. My name is Bishop and I'll put the bell to good use...and I promise to take good care of Budew. First things first though your right about how the Houndour were acting. I better go check things out before they cause anymore trouble."
Taking a few more minutes to make sure Jimmy was going to be fine and would be safe without him Bishop then looked in the direction the pokemon on the left had taken to get away. He thought he could track it and maybe find out what the mystery here was all about. With that in mind he took off in pursuit.

As you follow the trail of the houndour, you quickly lose sight of it. The clear and sunny path quickly becomes more and more covered by trees, and the ground turns from being nice and sturdy dirt to being much more muddy. As you start to doubt that you're traveling the correct direction, you come across a patch of mud which which has clearly been highly trafficked by a variety of pokémon. Some of which trainers from afar must have brought with them, because you simply have not seen these footprints before. As you take stock of all of the pokémon footprints, they all seem to be traveling different directions! You can't see the houndour anymore, which footprints do you track?

"Oh bother," Bishop mumbled to himself as he stooped down to study the muddy tracks. He fancied himself as something of an adventurous outdoorsman but in truth he wasn't nearly as skilled in such craft as he wanted to be. "Well, no time like the present to try and figure it out."
Some of the tracks he could eliminate just by the shape of the feet. Some seemed to be bird tracks and others had a rather feline quality to them. Which were the right sized canine tracks though? All he could do was take his best guess.
"I think this is the right one Rex," he said, pointing out one set (3-B) to the piglike pokemon walking beside him. "Come on. Let's follow and see if we find a Houndour at the end of these."
With that they set off, hoping for the best.

The chosen footprints continued to be easy to follow as the ground was still muddy and the undergrowth became more dense and with a lot of good places to hide. Something shiny would catch their eye and if they looked closer it would reveal to be a shiny metal wire that was half covered in wet, dead leaves. If they touched it, it would snap free and loop would trap whoever had touched it. It would be easy for Bishop with his hands to loosen it again and free what had released the snare. As they continued forward they would soon hear a whimper and crying that for the pokemon could be heard as babies calling for their mother. Beside a dense thicket the houndour they were chasing became visible, she was devastating pawing a small metal cage below the branches wherein four small houndour pups were trapped and crying for her help. As she circled the cage another snare got triggered and caught her by the backleg, she shrieked out in alarm and frantically trying to free herself. While she was pulling in the wire it rung a little bell that was attached in the other end, warning whoever had put out the traps that it had been triggered. The moment Bishop took another step he would trigger a well hidden trap below him and a net caught him and lifted him up dangling several meters above the ground. This one was not so easy to get out while he was sitting inside it. His pokemon had avoided the trap although who knew what else that was hidden in the undergrowth? "Ah, I knew you'd be back. long live the love of a mother," a man said mockingly as he emerged from the bushes and looked pleased at the houndour, who was snarling threateningly while covering fearfully. "What? Didn't you manage to keep your helpers with you? Well, they couldn't protect your pups, so why bother? A shame I didn't get those too," he said and then noticed Bishop in the net. He guffawed loudly and then smirked. "And what do we have here, do you enjoy the view?" He called to Bishop and then looked greedily at Bishop's pokemon. "Nice of you to come with a gift for me. Zigor, get them!" He ordered and a zubat flew forward. Hunter Travis is threatening to steal your pokemon! He has a minion zubat called Zigor [lvl 10] What do you do? could be awesome if more traps were interfering in the battle I think, hehe.

Who would have guessed that he would run into so many irritating people in his travels? Bishop hadn't even gotten his first badge yet and here he had already run into his third pokemon thief! It was enough to make his blood boil...except that in this case he found himself to be very calm. No point losing his focus. In fact by first impression he seemed to have the advantage in this fight.
"Rex! Use Powder Snow on that Zubat! And be careful not to step in to any traps!"
That might be easier said than done but the last part seemed worth mentioning. Trying to keep an eye peeled for any treachery from the trapper he began to try and undo the net he found himself in. It might take a few minutes to work his way lose but he had confidence in Rex who had a type advantage against the flying type.
"I'm going to stuff that guy in a trap if I get out of this," he muttered to himself as he fumbled with the ropes.
