TAG MODS
NOTES - Lord here we go again It was strange, so many things that just didn't feel right in a new place. The first thing that Raiden found about different regions, and different places, was that nothing was as desolate as Orre had been. There was so much green, so much wildlife, and while there had been some it might as well have been a stray cactus. There was grass everywhere here, and in some ways, it was comforting, a wonder of what the world could hold. Yet there was a hesitation, a wonder if he was deserving of another chance, not that he personally had done anything wrong, but because he had left others behind to make it happen.
The friends and family he had made, those that had followed him weren't here with him. It felt like it was his fault, that he hadn't done enough to save them. They had told him to leave, and he had gone only because of that and there wasn't anything he could do for them back home. At least, not at the moment, and it wasn't like he could ever truly forget them but he couldn't go home. Raiden right now could only have hope that they too had escaped had found another place to live and had seen the grass as he did here. They didn't ask questions, as long as he didn't cause trouble it was likely he could disappear here.
A pokemon trainer, taking the challenge of gaining gyms and gaining power, that was something that was completely different from Orre. The only thing similar was in Phenac and he personally hadn't been. Even though he was older than some who started in the region he might as well be brand new to it. It was normal in other regions, something he had heard often when he was running, and he could blend into that challenge. That was the plan at least as he had gone to this town's professor and requested a pokemon to take the challenge with.
It was in that way that he now had a ball with a pokemon inside, a charmander, one who upon meeting the other pokemon seemed the best fit for his personality. Neither of them seemed to speak much, and that was okay with him. The problem was they had asked what Raiden would name the pokemon and he had no answer. He had never named anything before, and part of him felt like it wasn't something he personally would do. "Is it alright if I just call you Charmander?" he had asked, and it wasn't like the pokemon could answer back.
All he could do was hope that he wasn't wasting the second chance that he had been given. [googlefont=Karla]

Raiden couldn't have chosen a better day to try out his second chance, and while he was mistrusting of anyone, the professor he met certainly wasn't. He barely had to introduce himself or even give any personal information before he got accepted to be handed a pokemon of his own. The professor showed no surprise when the choice fell on the fire lizard, it was a very popular one after all, instead he blabbered on about a pokedex and a quest with lots of hints that he hoped the new trainer would agree to help out with that. Whether he did that or not was up to Raiden and no matter what he found himself outside in the little lively town of New Bark, kids were out and about playing around, although one stood out as he was walking slowly with a very peculiar red bug at his side, and he was coughing a lot as he disappeared into the forest surrounding the town. Right at the entrance to the lab was a board, a jobboard, where the inhabitants of the town posted small jobs and tasks they could need help with, often they would pay something as thanks. Perhaps there was something of interest for Raiden? The last note had mudbray ears, laughing smileys and "crazy old man" scribbled on it, in another pen than the original note. Seemed like other residents of the town had expressed their thoughts of this request. Loud growling and barking was heard and as Raiden turned to look, a spotted beige bear stumbled out from a fenced garden with its arms full of apples, with a rockruff chasing it. The dog stopped at the open gate and barked loudly, the meaning was clear "STAY OUT!" The spinda shot a nervous glance back as it swayed back and forth in its attempt to get away, but slowed down when it realized the rockruff didn't followed it out of the garden. It continued to stumble and was unable to keep a straight line as it made its way down the road with the apples. Spinda [Lv 4] is stumbling away with some apples. Weather will be balmy (clear)Shiny: H8xDlsyx1-42(ooc: your are free to both take a task, if interested and face the spinda, if you wish as you can always continue with the job after the encounter. ^^ The pokedex and the sick kid are hints to two quests in New Bark Town) 1-42

NOTES - Old man option, going for spinda Raiden did not have any hard feelings for people who were open and compassionate if anything it meant they had not been through a hardship of their own. That was a good thing in many ways, but after someone had been through something that he had it wasn't that strange to mistrust others until proven otherwise. He listened and didn't offer much in an exchange with the professor other than small nods and taking the pokedex he provided. It would be something to keep in mind, but he didn't really want to be that one special person to complete this - the less he was in the limelight the better.
Yet it seemed for such a small time things were constantly moving, it was no surprise since the lab was here. Too many new trainers and people visiting to get their first pokemon, the hub of those that had just started. It was strange to think of himself in the same light, that he too was one of them now. Eyes flicked between the children momentarily and settled on the one coughing a bit too much before he disappeared into the woods. At the very least he had a Pokemon with him so there wasn't too much concern for their wellbeing. Golden iris' instead match the board glancing over it with a half-caring look - he wasn't trying to get mixed up in people's lives here.
Raiden was sure he would have completely ignored it if he hadn't noticed the marks that were added after the fact. There is a burning sensation in his chest as his eyes focus more on it. Even if it was nothing, the cruelty behind the marks hits a special nerve with the man. He had made a note that he wouldn't get involved, but maybe he could at least here this guy out, making a mental note of the name of the old man he was set to figure out just who it was through his own means when the loud barking gave him pause.
Just barely managing to catch the end of the exchange his eyes noticed the troublemaker of a spinda. Arms filled with apples, he was curious if it was really a mischievous nature or if it was simply hungry. Since he had to figure out who this old man was any way it wouldn't be too much of a problem if he looked into this spinda as well. Making a motion to cut into the small Pokemon's path he watched it though not in a threatening manner, at least not yet. "Those aren't yours, are you really that hungry?" not that it could really respond to him, but Pokemon understood human's intentions.
If it didn't work, well, there was always the option of battle. [googlefont=Karla]

Everything was clear! The road before the Pokemon was open and inviting, especially since the annoying guard mutt stopped at the property line. See, that was the difference between a trainer’s Pokemon and a wild one. Rules? Guidelines? Behavior? No thank you. It was the open road and doing what it wanted, for this little Spinda. Its mouth salivated at the bounty that it currently carried in its paws. Even though the amount of apples would not last long with the panda’s voracious appetite, it would do for now. It would just sneak back into the apple orchard anyway, no big deal. At least, that would have been the case if a human didn’t step in the path, blocking its way down the road. Gulping, the Spinda slowly looked up the human’s body, going from feet, to knees, up to chest and then eventually his face. He was huge! (At least, to the perspective of a Pokemon) Spinda scooted back a pace or two, holding the apples protectively against its body and at an angle away from the human. <Why do you care? They aren’t yours! If you must know, yes, I am very hungry. So they are mine!> the panda growled, its swirly eyes narrowing in anger. The wild Pokemon changed its stance slightly, looking ready to take off at a moment’s notice, or, to dash forward and tackle its way out of this situation. Level 4, carrying apples

NOTES -opt c, spinda situation As much as he would have loved to simply go find out more information about this man and his worries, it seemed something else was going to be keeping Raiden's attention for at least a little longer. The man found that the spinda had been stealing food, but it wasn't like it was a big deal. The worry that the young man had was if he had been getting enough to eat. If stealing was its only option would it be better if he took the pokemon with him? The panda wasn't quite the type of pokemon that he saw himself using but he was worried the fighting between the pokemon and the dog that had scared it off would only get worse.
The ruffian didn't really have much of a bleeding heart for people, but that didn't extend to pokemon. Even when the spinda looks unnerved and moves back to guarding its stash. "I have no intention of taking them from you." he offers before rummaging around in his bag. He had picked up supplies before he had visited the lab in expectancy of having pokemon. They would come first before himself so he opened a small container of food that he had been told would be good for them. Though the pokemon seemed rather fearful he moved to slowly set the lid with some food down for the pokemon. If it took it and ran then he had done all he could, if it stayed then maybe he could talk reason.
"It's not easy to steal all the time," This one he knew for certain because he had to most his life. "If you don't want to steal I can help you. But you'd have to leave this place behind." he wasn't quite sure if the Pokemon would be swayed by words. This was his first time doing something like this so it was a lot of firsts for him. " Or if you don't trust me, we could always battle. Though that really doesn't leave you much choice now does it?" he was sure that he would have to make those decisions in the future, but it wasn't like he was in a rush.
One step at a time. [googlefont=Karla]

The smell of pokemon food was really tempting. It was hungry. But fear overcame the temptation of hunger as it stumbled back, uncertain if it could flee with its arms full of its prize. This human seemed nicer than the hound that chased it away from its territory, but he was still so big. Intimidating. Humans often got mad when it gathered food for itself near them, and it couldn't trust that this wouldn't be more of the same. "I-I won't let you take my apple or lure me into a mean trap! I...I'll fight you!" It tried to look tough, but it was hard to be intimidating while you wobbled about on unsteady legs. With a tottering step, it tried to lunge at the human, if only to spook him out of its way. A battle really wasn't what it wanted, but a hungry belly growled with needs that needed met. Still not sure if that was scary enough to show it wasn't playing around, it greedily shoved one of the apples in its mouth. At least it would have a bite of something to eat if the human chose to steal its pilfered prize! Perhaps Raiden would see...a little of himself in those mistrustful eyes. Not everyone would try to help a little toddling thief of a pokemon.
Spinda wants to battle to protect its apples!

NOTES -opt c, battling spinda, char used growl There was an understanding that he was not trusted. Raiden would have felt the same in this situation. Even with talking and offering peace it didn't seem to do much, the pokemon had moved forward first but backed up. It seemed that was a fair response at the end of the day and he wondered how many people had actually been kind. So Raiden didn't move any closer and it seemed the pokemon had made its choice.
It charged and Raiden was thankful that it was teetering because he had enough time to move out of the way. It puffed up its chest and that was enough of an answer for the hooligan. ”Alright then.” they would battle then if that was the choice it had made. Though for a moment Raiden did see himself in the eyes of the pokemon because he too had been in a situation like that. He would just have to prove otherwise, even if it wasn't the best option.
Clicking the ball he had already grabbed it had enlarged and a light came for the charmander he had picked to come out. ”Our first battle, let’s get this done. Charmander let's do Growl to start this off.” the charmander didn't make a sound but a small nod showed that he had definitely heard the request. [googlefont=Karla]

When confronted with yet another foe, this one more similar in size, the spinda shoved yet another apple into its mouth before stumbling forward, trying to shove past charmander with all its wobbly might. Charmander, though a quiet, did bare his teeth a bit and growl low at his opponent. The spinda balked, feeling not so very brave, even as it committed to that tackle it began. Charmander would be knocked back just a step as Spinda tottered back, still trying its darnedest to juggle those remaining apples in its arms. "G-go away! These are all mine and you can't have any! Neither you or the big human will scare me," it warbled out, a definite tremble in its voice. It was putting up a tough front, but it was obvious it wasn't much of a fighter. Why else would it be stealing food rather than toughing it out in the woods? Sneaking into a pantry and pilfering goodies had far less chances of running headfirst into a flock of angry spearow who would take offense and chase it with sharp beaks! One of the apples slipped from its paws and it looked down. Oh no! "Stay back!" it growled at the charmander, reaching to pick its snack up. NOTES -opt c, battling spinda, char used ember Perhaps this wasn't the right way to go about all of this, but Raiden didn't really know how to do much else. Even though this was his version of a second chance, he had learned how to fight and nothing else. Using words hardly worked, at least he hadn't seen it. As much as he wanted to start over, and he would try his best, it was a natural habit to resort to the same thing that he had been raised on back in Orre.
Charmander does manage to get the Pokemon to back off and he wonders if it will run. Should it do so Raiden didn't believe it would give chase. Yet, despite all that and its slight fear it sticks to its original thought and tackles Charmander. It had grit and perhaps that is what attracts the attention of Raiden. A fight wasn't always necessary but fighting was better than running away, not like he hadn't already done that. Maybe there was a lot of this Spinda that he saw in himself, he wouldn't have left if his friends hadn't begged him to but he still regretted it.
Even when the Pokemon goes for the apple Raiden frowns but this is a battle. "Charmander, let's do ember." he didn't want to go for his apples, that was his reason to survive, but Spinda had chosen to continue so they would. He felt he owed that much that they gave it their best. "I respect you Spinda, even if you don't understand, I understand why you're trying so hard." [googlefont=Karla]

More staggers and wobbles lead to the spinda spinning its way back to stand across from Raiden and his charmander again. It was feeling a little over full from scarfing down those apples so fast, but it couldn't risk losing them. Better to eat them too fast now and be a little hungry later, than hungry now and hungrier later. That was just the way of things. (When was the last time it felt contented? When was the last time it wasn't spending its waking moments scrounging for food to soothe the clawing ache in its belly?) Memories flooded the little bear for a moment, flashes of not quite clear images colored with smell and taste and sound. It recalled the scent of its mothers fur as it pressed its face against her side. It remembered her warmth and the comfort she offered. The berries she brought were sweet upon its tongue even now, never seeming to end as she offer it one after another, encouraging it to eat well and grow strong. It remembered the shelter of a cozy nest lined with fluff and the play fights with siblings. It remembered a promise to help it hunt for food one day. A day that never came. It remembered that first lonely night. Cold. Wet. Crying out for someone who would never respond. It curled up on damp earth, shivering. Its belly aching for the first time. Never did it learn what happened to them. But it did learn how to fend for itself in this big, scary world. Even if it meant stealing because it couldn't compete with wild pokemon very well being inexperienced and relatively weak. Suddenly, it was yanked out of those memories by a different kind of warmth. Fire. The spinda let out a startled cry as it fur was singed. It flailed and floundered, nearly falling down. And it apples. It dropped its precious apples! It couldn't lose them. It couldn't be hungry again! No! The spinda whirled and charged again, knocking the charmander back before wobbling away again.

WC 378 for nido egg
NOTES - char used ember; if something could be done to introduce the pooch and nido egg I would be super appreciative There is so much that he feels he is responsible for, and that is what drives him. Raiden didn't have anything to look back for, there was nothing left back in Orre, not anymore. Even if he was not responsible for what they believed him to be, it didn't matter, his name had already been drug through the mud and it wasn't like he could clear his name either. So in a lot of ways he felt alone too in this big world, there wasn't anyone that was looking out for him but he had since learned how to take care of himself. He had been left alone too, had gone many nights without food in his belly, and learned to take hits - but that was the state of Orre.
Children on the streets and no one even batted an eye. It was no wonder how many ended up on the streets and in the ground groups and then they turned around and pointed fingers at them. A circle of failure, but this new region, it wasn't like that, people seemed genuinely happy here. Children were safe to go on pokemon adventures, safe to be out without an adult, and while there was a tinge of jealousy there was also an understanding that what he had learned was not the same. Perhaps because he had grown up like this that he could understand the woes of the pokemon before him. How much it had suffered being alone and no one is there, if anything he wanted to help show it something better.
"I'm sorry that it hurts, " he was but he was still putting up a fight charmander was working hard and he would make sure to praise him too. " It hurts being alone, and fighting and it makes you feel like giving up. You can't give up, not ever." and he would make sure to be there if things worked out. "Charmander, you're doing great, let's do this together. Let's go for another ember." he said and once more the Charmander got himself back up from the tackle that had sent him back and away. At the very least he would not aim his ember at the apples that the Spinda was trying so hard to protect.

Another ember. More singed fur as spinda tried to desperately protect its food. It staggered more than stumbled now, its drunken gait fatigued and aching. It tried so hard and it was all for nothing! Frustrated tears pricked into its swirly eyes and it rushed at charmander, trying to knock him over as hard as possible! It wasn't a blow to a weakspot, but this push was a little stronger than the last couple, as if it was throwing all its panda strength into it. It wasn't even talking now, just trying not to cry. It was stupid. So stupid. For getting into this mess. Now Raiden was presented with a choice: Did he chase off this spinda with another attack (as its resolve looked to be nearly gone) or did he try to catch it? As the battle reached its potentially penultimate point, he would notice movement out of the corner of his eye. Was that another pokemon squeezing into someone's shed? This spinda was caught stealing food and chased off by an irate owner...maybe a peek to make sure the pokemon wasn't causing any trouble would be due after this battle ended? ooc//Mention the egg in and pooch in your next post too! That way the intro of the pooch and egg isn't missed!

WC 339 for nido egg
NOTES - raiden tossed a pokeball; if something could be done to introduce the pooch and nido egg I would be super appreciative Perhaps this was enough, Raiden was not cruel, not like this. He had fled home and had tried to be a better person even if his name had been dragged through the mud. He would not become the person they had wanted to make him, wanted to break him, and arrested him for a crime he had not committed. Raiden would not be the person they had framed him to be, and this was one of those times that he could see the problem. He would not continue, not when it was like this. The spinda was done fighting, and the tears that pricked its eyes were not unnoticed by the trainer nor by his Charmander.
The fire Pokemon looked back to Raiden, he would finish this if that was what was requested, they had to fight other pokemon too. It would not be the first battle where they would faint a pokemon, but serious injury was not something Raiden desired. At the glance of his pokemon the trainer moved a hand to his bag to pull out a shrunk pokeball before tapping the center and feeling it grow in his palm. "Stay alert Charmander, if this doesn't work prepare another Ember." with that the fire lizard focused back on the pokemon before him. "I want to make sure you never go hungry again Spinda, that's a fact." he said before he tossed the ball at the pokemon.
While the ball attempted to catch the pokemon that had fought with him his eyes glanced to the side of the bushes that were rustling. It was not something he could deal with quite at the moment but as soon as this was finished he would make sure to check out what was in that bush. Keeping a side eye on what was going on with the Pokeball and Charmander he moved just one step closer trying to find out just what was going on in that direction without being too separated from what was going on in front of him.

Never hungry again... What a thought. A dream. Was it possible or mere delusion? A lie conjured up to trick it into giving up. The last apple slipped from its paws as the ball struck it and in a flash, the little spinda, weary from the battle and hunger...was caught. No fuss. Just a single little wobble before going still. The struggle was over. Raiden had won. But what that meant for the spinda had yet to be seen. Now that the battle was over, Raiden could pick up the ball and investigate the rustling. Just a peek. A glance, He'd catch sight of grey fur. If curiosity drove him to creep closer and trespass just a little, pushing open an ajar fence gate and unlocked shed door...he'd see...a poochyena! It was bringing a rag to add to the nest it had made in the corner of the shed between old bike tires and a lawnmower. Honestly, this was no place to raise an egg, but...to be fair, this was no place you'd typically see those pups either. The egg was also a little funny looking. If Raiden knew a thing about eggs, he'd know that they typically reflected the parent. And this egg was...purple? Strange... The poochyena suddenly growled. But not at Raiden. At something else in the shed. He could step back and let things continue as they are...or intervene and perhaps see what the poochyena was defending its makeshift nest from.
Wild spinda was caught! (-1 pokeball)
Charmander gained 2 levels. Charmander increased to Level 7!

WC 373 for nido egg, blaire for Aspen NOTES - investigated what Poochyena was growling at, not giving info to spinda, will be gift for aspen No fuss, not one rough rock on the Pokeball. Raiden had every intention to make sure to keep his promise, he would keep the Spinda with him. Though the pokemon didn't seem to really want to fight he didn't want to put it in that situation. For now, the ball was returned to his side and he would get it help as soon as he had a moment. First, the rustling was the main concern. Upon further investigation (and a little bit of trespassing) the trainer found just what it was that was making the noise. A poochyena, was it the same one that had scared the Spinda off? He wasn't sure but his eyes followed it to where it was taking the rag to find an egg.
What was it doing out here? Second off it was definitely not a poochyena egg, Raiden wasn't a breeder but he was pretty positive the color didn't match what it should have been. Was the poochyena trying to take care of it even though it wasn't theirs? It made the most sense and he wondered exactly what he should do in the situation. There was no way an owner would leave an egg out here so were both of them abandoned? It would make the most logical sense in this particular situation. It was only at the growling that the human once again looked back to the shed.
The Pokemon was definitely not growling at him and it was only because of that he moved forward to take a closer look. He was worried about the egg and this little poochyena. Making sure Charmander was okay to take a rest for a moment to recover from the battle he moved a little bit closer to see if maybe he could find out more as to what was threatening the pokemon. Though he also tried to keep some distance in case the pokemon were afraid that he was a threat to the egg and the pooch itself.
To outside sources, it may look like the trainer was trying to steal something from this person's property. Though he wasn't really paying attention to that, if anyone was passing by it definitely looked like he was being suspicious.
