Could we have it where the norm is that its one Pokedex for all characters but a member can opt to have the Pokedex per character? They would just start a quest thread for that 2nd/3rd character and obviously say that they wanted to opt for a separate Pokedex?
It already takes some time before you can make a 2nd character, so I do feel like the member would pretty much know how much work it would take to run a 2nd Pokedex, and you'd know even more by the time you make a 3rd. So by that time they could make the decision with enough knowledge to know if that's truly what they want.
[hope that makes sense since I just woke up a bit ago and am still sleepy LOL]

It certainly does David <3
To be clear, this poll is to get insight into why y'all are doing the quest the way you are and to hear everyone's thoughts on how it's currently run versus an obvious alternative. Don't worry March, we wouldn't just chuck away all that hard work you've been doing! ^^
The idea of having a choice between the two is the sort of road I was considering if there was a strong preference for a 'one-for-all' dex quest.
Thank you all for this discussion, and please keep going with anything further <3 This is very valuable.

I would fully support offering a choice between the two modes instead of one or the other, such a system would be by far the most fair option as far as I am concerned and if we went with that I would have absolutely no issue at all. So long as the per character option remains intact for those of us who want it there is no reason for me to oppose the other becoming the alternative choice. I am just completely against getting rid of the per character option after putting in years of work trying to do it with all 3 characters.

I agree with David and Marchbaby. While having having only one pokedex is more convenient, having each character with a seperate pokexedex helps with tracking their history and acquiring a number of items rather than only focusing on achieving each pokedex goal once. Giving players the option to go with one pokedex per account or per character would satisfy all the players involved.
Of course, there would have to be some compensation given to those who filled out pokedexes on multiple characters should they choose to merge the pokedexes.

If it's basically like we have now, then I would say that compensation wouldn't be needed for people switching to multiple or staying singular. Since we are already doing this now in not-so-many steps. I use one but trade between my characters to track on only one. I wouldn't think before this discussion others who have been tracking on multiple and changed to switch would have been compensated (or vise versa). The benefit of multiple is already there - multiple rewards for the same rewards, baked in. I am choosing not to get those rewards the way I am tracking so I'm missing out for the hassle free life of only one Pokedex. If the new proposed choice option drastically changes the game that might have affected your original choice, allowing all members to choose whether to switch (multi or one) that have already started one way or another, and compensate for any losses (for those switching to singular, etc) would be fair. But they would have already gotten extra copies of rewards that I could have, just chose not to, by doing only one. That is my choice but also their benefit for dling multiple dexes. Also Lamont! I thought of something! People who retire characters and start new ones. They can just do a new Pokedex for the new guys, too. So the options are limitless in a way - if you're willing to work all the way through before retiring anyone and truly start from scratch via breeding yet again for a 4th character. Unless I've missed where we've planned for that ahead of time and blocked this ability. Thankfully I don't think anyone's really considered this often and we're pretty good about letting members know if a Pokemon they moved to a newer character has already been included in a different dex? Idk may be something worth considering too?

The retiring/restart has already come up yes. We haven't previously counted the same mons across new character dexes if they were already claimed for a previous dex.
