Description: Home of the Ninja

Given the town's murky past, the populace have used this to great extent in building up a reputation to potential tourists. A long time ago the settlement was home to an entire clan of ninjas which have since long disappeared although hints of their presence can strongly be felt with the town's architecture and other subtleties. Capitalising on this romantic tale of ninjas, a souvenir shop is the one and only real point of interest for travelling adventurers.

Souvenir goods such as ninja headbands, costumes and weapons can all be found here. Those willing to use the town as a resting point can also be amazed by the beautiful Lake of Rage directly north above the route. Pryce, the town's long standing gym leader, can also be found in the town and specialises in chilly Ice type Pokemon. Be wary however as this wizened veteran has earnt the moniker of "the teacher of winter's harshness." through his freezing offences.

Surrounding Areas:

The city has three entrances. From the west is Route 42 that connects Mahogany to Ecruteak. Route 43 can be found to the north and links the small town up with the massive Lake of Rage. The western entrance leads off to Route 44 and eventually the chilling Ice Path that, on occasion, Pryce can be found training in.

Checkpoints:

The following list suggests a possible order in which Mahogany Town and its surrounding areas may be explored:

• Explore the Lake of Rage (optional)
  
• Defeat Pryce and claim the Glacier Badge (mandatory for progress)
  
• Negotiate Route 44 and the gruelling Ice Path ---> Blackthorn City

The minimum requirement needed to progress to Blackthorn City is the Glacier Badge, one battle on Route 44 and one battle in the Ice Path.

ROUTE 42

Note: Pokémon levels range from 26 to 34.

Offering a good taste to come of the northern mountainous section of Johto itself, Route 42 sports a large mountain, lakes and generally hilly rural environments to adventuring trainers. With Ecruteak to its western terminus, those exploring onwards will find this route connects to the nearby Mahogany Town off to the east. However, as enticing as the allure of a new location sounds, there are certainly exciting prospects to be had in Mt. Mortar itself. Just be sure to be well equipped for the gruelling hike. Not only will you come across elusive cave dwelling Pokemon but there will be a horde of hiker enthusiasts who seem to be ready to drop their own journey in order to have a battle or two. A notable Pink and Yellow Apricorn tree is also free to shake down should any passer-byers have a Pokemon with Headbutt. This is only once per thread and the obtain apricorn is randomised.

ROUTE 44

Note: Pokémon levels range from 32 to 38.

Yet another heavily forested route. Route 44 comprises of a few shallow springs and abundant greenery in the form of many mountainous trees and plants. A fairly chilly breeze is accompanied due to the proximity of the ice path located off to the east of the route. One notable fact that is worthwhile to keep in mind for budding Pokemon collectors is that there are a number of Pokemon only located in this route that are unavailable anywhere else. Because of this, a number of other Pokemon trainers have swarmed the route in the hopes to add one of these elusive Pokemon to their own collection. A notable Red Apricorn tree is also free to shake down should any passer-byers have a Pokemon with Headbutt. This is only once per thread.
