[attr="class","traitlist"]♦ Friendly- Sandy is a very friendly person, and easy to get along with at that. She doesn’t like to make enemies and often believes in seeing the best in people for as long as you can. She is cautious when it comes to people behind enemy lines, and would not go as far as trusting them if they’re open about who they work for, Team Rocket or any other Organization that tends to do the wrong thing, and this has only strengthened throughout her Journey, especially due to her own encounters with them. But other than that, Sandy will give anyone a chance, even a second, if you should be so crafty. ♦ Careful- Sandy is very careful about where she goes and what she does next, so she can avoid getting twisted up in things she doesn’t feel she needs to be a part of. Being shy as she is, she doesn’t like large crowds and will usually try to plan around them, and she also never stays in a larger Cities for too long as they unnerve her being from a Small Town. Cities are too large, often targets. Sandy doesn’t like to keep her feet in a place like that for too long. ♦ Responsible- Sandy is a responsible person, as you would suppose anyone who has Pokemon to take care of would be. She cares about her Team Members as one would a family, and treats them as such, able to break up fights between them very easily, thanks to most of her Pokemon treating her with the same respect she shows them. Outside of caring for her Pokemon, she is responsible in other ways, trustable with tasks and punctual to things when she can help it. ♦ Nurturing- As stated before, she does very well when it comes to caring for her team. She is also an older sister, therefore good with handling children to a degree as well. Sandy has also taken care of younger Pokemon she has either captured or hatched from eggs and is good at keeping calm when it comes to both sorts of children crying or screaming. ♦ Creative- Sandy is very creative and sees the potential in every move that her Pokemon learn. She had wanted to be a Coordinator since she was young to share that creativity with others once she was brave enough to take the stage. Alone, she manifests that into piano playing, something she does very well aside from her daily training, though because of that she doesn’t have much time to practice it anymore. | [attr="class","traitlist"]♦ Stubborn- Sandy can be quite stubborn at times, and some would say she doesn’t know the proper time to give up once she puts her mind to something. Once she thinks she should be doing something one way, it’s very hard to dissuade her. In an argument its hardly likely she’ll listen to every point given to her, and if she is truly wrong it will take her a while to recognize it. Thankfully, there are not many occasions where she will whip herself into a frenzy so this is something you do not often have to worry about. ♦ Jumpy- Sandy Can be very jumpy when it comes right down to it, very easily startled and it’s not advisable to come up from behind her unless you want to give her a heart attack. This is especially visible in larger cities where she feels the most uncomfortable, scaring at every twist and turn. So if you see her in a crowd, it’s advisable to call out her name first, just so she sees you coming ♦ Timid- Sandy has always been rather shy, and often this was the cause of her troubles with making friends. It wasn’t that people didn’t want to be her friend, it was that she herself was afraid to approach others and simply give them the chance to know her. She finds traveling eases this burden a little, as sometimes you run into friends in the most unexpected of places. ♦ Meek- Shyness has also led to Sandy having the habit of being too soft, allowing herself to be stepped on in the favor of others because she doesn’t often let her voice be heard. Though this is slowly changing, she still very much encounters this Problem and her quiet demeanor continues to give her problems. ♦ Naïve- Sandy is too trusting, and this had led her into trouble more than once. Her need to see the best in people often obstructs her vision of who they really are and what they’re really like, and it has more than once led her into getting hurt. But it is a hard thing to overcome, her want to believe that not everyone has ill intentions, and it isn’t becoming any easier day by day. | |

Appearance:
Sandy began her journey as a bit of a Plain Jane (Not that she isn’t now, but she’s introduced more style to her life. Sandy stands at a height of “5’5” and weighs in at about 125 Pounds. Her eyes are a very pale blue color, and some might compare them to ice if they looked at her for long enough. Her skin is a pale peach, and it is very easy to see when she is flushed or embarrassed as it shows easily within her cheeks, something Sandy has always hated. She has a petite frame, and some may describe her as almost fragile looking, though Sandy has proven to be able to take a hit when she’s left no choice. Her hair is a sandy blonde color, long and comes down to her mid back. Since heading out on her journey, Sandy changed her hair upon reaching goldenrod city, and it now sports an electric blue color at the tips.
Sandy has many outfits, and what you’ll find her in pends on the season. She isn’t much of a fashionista, and because travelling means you can’t carry too much with you, in the Spring you will often find her wearing a sky blue long sleeve shirt and some blue jeans, the Summer an orange tube top, and gray capris, in Autumn a black and white striped shirt and brown jeans with gray and blue sneakers, and in the Winter a long sleeved white shirt with a dark gray sweater with a pair of heavier jeans, to make sure that she wouldn’t freeze.
Around her neck she wears two necklaces, one white pearl on a string, given to her by her father, and a Purple Clever Wing which she placed onto a necklace, a gift from her friend Andrew that she got at one of the Christmas parties she attended.
History:
Sandy was born in Fortree City, Hoenn as Sandy Jay Katayko to her proud parents, Jack and Mana Katayko, and spent a large part of her life there. As a child, she had taken a liking to hanging around Winona, the Fortree City gym leader. There she learned a lot as a child. She learned how to care properly for Pokémon when it came to things like grooming and spending time with them. Winona quickly became Sandy’s role model, and the girl never bothered to hide it.
She assisted Winona a day at a time, bringing her what she needed, though she didn’t play a huge part within the Gym otherwise. Sandy’s parents were happy enough that Winona would see to encourage their daughter rather than put her down, and at the time the Kataykos didn’t think that there were more children in the plan. That was until Sandy’s mother gave birth to Sandy’s little brother, Matthew. And Sandy found it strange, having a new child in the house after so long of it being just her, but eventually she took up the mantle of a big sister, and settled into the role easily, eventually even happily so. Matthew was her little brother, and she became responsible for him, especially with their mother working long shifts as a Lawyer, while their father took to his Coordinating.
And it was her father who really got Sandy into Coordinating in the first place, as Sandy had always loved watching him turn ordinary Pokemon moves into works of art just by changing the way they were delivered. And he himself said she would make a great Coordinator one day, so it was from a young age that Sandy had already decided what she wanted to do. She wanted to be a Coordinator, and there was nothing that was going to stop her.
But unfortunately she did not begin her journey at a young age like others often did, because she was still at home caring for Matthew often, nothing to be done about their parent’s work schedules. Mana was so busy with her Laywers job that she hardly had time to be home, and with Jack travelling it was often left to Sandy, the job of raising her younger brother. But she took it well, happy enough to see that Matt was growing up healthy, and with the exception of missing their parents, happy.
And then one day her mother called, telling Sandy she would be home and asking if she could go and collect berries for her to make into a Pie when she got there. And so Sandy did as she was told, taking Matthew out to collect the berries on the Route just outside the city. And she knew the dangers of going out without a Pokemon, but the Pokemon her father had left to guard the house had been sleeping, and Sandy had not wished to wake him for some simple berries. Matthew had been playing with a ball, and soon lost sight of it as he threw it too far.
He began to cry, so Sandy told him to stay where he was and climbed down the ledge she thought the ball had gone down, even though it had went in the opposite direction. The ledge had led her into tall grass, where a group of Mightyena had been enjoying a meal. Sandy took a step back, but alerted them to her presence.
One lunged and caught her in the side, and the others stood behind it in an offensive stance as it continued to drag the young girl around. Nearby trainers who heard the commotion eventually came to assist and took Sandy to the Hospital, where her mother and father had come later after hearing what happened. Sandy eventually recovered from her wounds, though was left with a scar on her left side to remind her of the incident, and a crippling fear of Mightyena.
This event triggered nightmares for the next few years, and it also landed Sandy with her trouble making decisions. She never had easy times making decisions going anywhere or doing anything again, due to the fear of choosing the wrong thing.
At the age of Fourteen, Sandy realized that her family was having troubles. Her mother and father were both having some problems making money, which led to many fights between the two. Often it was up to Sandy to keep her brother calm while her parents were busy screaming at each other and breaking things. She began to lose her normally happy attitude, and she became sensitive and started crying a lot more.
Though this was all going on, Sandy still left the house most of the time. It was out on a walk with her brother Matthew where she met Leon. He had just moved into Fortree city, and he was a year older than her. Asking her why she looked so troubled and if she needed help was what broke the ice between them.
The two, much to Matthew’s dismay, became a bit too close, and when Sandy turned fifteen, they started dating, which was unknown by her parents.
When Sandy just started being sixteen though, he became hostile towards her. He was abusive towards her, and often taunted her and called her names. Whenever she’d do something for him, it was all wrong, and whenever she didn’t, he wanted to know why the hell not.
Even so, Sandy was naïve, and she always found reasons to stay with him. What she didn’t know is that her parents found out, and it caused even more fights between them. Matthew became angry with her, because not only was she being stupid, but he was dealing with the repercussions at home as well. Finally, the last straw was broken when Leon had basically asked her to run away with him.
Sandy wasn’t sure what to do. In her mind, she really loved him, but she couldn’t do that to her family, and formally declined. When she did, Leon instantly turned on her, for good. It didn’t help when she told her father why the two had broken up, as he thought she was going to say yes, and it threw the rift into becoming even larger between the family. Eventually Sandy and Matthew grew close again.
Mana had chosen to move to Johto, due to business reasons. Jack argued with her constantly over this, because he wanted the family to stay together. When that didn’t work, Jack and Mana separated and soon divorced. Matthew was to stay in Hoenn, with his father, while Sandy was forced to go with her mother to live in Johto.
Sandy learned to spend most of her time alone, because her mother always had something else to do. Work, or going out with friends, Sandy always ended by herself somehow. She learned to cook for herself, and take care of various chores. Though shee wasn’t too happy. Her mother knew this, but didn’t feel she could do anything to help.
Then her mother tried to remarry. Quite a few times, she’d bring home men for Sandy to meet. Though, instead of her normal Politeness, Sandy treated them rudely, and managed to scare many of them off. The only father she knew was her own, and the only father she wanted, was her own. She never understood why her mother didn’t understand that.
Sandy eventually got to know the town’s Professor, Professor Elm, after meeting him in the annual New Bark town festival that was held for residence every year. He asked her, after noticing how alone she always seemed, if she’d like to volunteer to look after the Pokemon at his lab. She quickly agreed to it and started as soon as she could.
She saw many trainers come and go, picking out their first Pokemon, but it wasn’t until she met a certain Squirtle that she wanted to set out on her own. The two had bonded through Sandy’s care, and the Squirtle’s shyness around her eventually dissipated. The day someone was interested in taking her, is where Sandy started her journey, choosing the Squirtle for herself instead.
She called her Berry, and set out from her home to explore Johto.

Mana Katayko (45)-- Lawyer-- Newbark Town-- Johto Region : Sandy's Mother, a dedicated Lawyer that has perhaps put far too much time into her work. Despite that, she keeps up with Sandy whenever she can, though she herself is rarely ever home, Sandy often sees her only Pokemon, Zeus the Primeape when she returns to her home in Newbark for some downtime.
