...Begins with a single step, Keith cheerily told himself as he took his very first step outside of New Bark Town and onto Route 29. Keith supposed it wasn't exactly the most original phrase to begin his journey with, but he didn't really care, either. No one heard them but himself, and if it did matter later, he could always come up with a more 'awesome' sounding phrase to begin his journey with and say he said that instead.
Keith would pause for a moment after his first step, as though mulling over what to do next, before giving out a shrug and continuing to press on through route 29. As he took a step forward, his attention would be caught by the Pokeball currently caught on the strap of his bag. The Pokemon inside, Ashton, had been obtained without that much of a journey - He caught a ride over to New Bark Town, and then discussed with the Professor about obtaining a starter Pokemon. As much as Keith would love to lie and say that he did, in fact, obtain it with something special happening, such as all of the Pokemon in the lab fleeing, Keith obtained his Pokemon in a rather bland way.
Keith would grin as he looked down at the Pokeball. "You don't like being stuck in there, do you? I know I'd prefer the great outdoors." He asked the Pokemon contained within, before grabbing the Pokeball and tossing it into the air. The Pokeball would burst open, and from inside would be a blue turtle. Ashton, as Keith had dubbed him, came out of his Pokeball with a grin and an excited 'Squirtle!' Keith's only response would be a grin before he continued his slow stride forward, Ashton at his heels.
As Keith continued his slow pace, Ashton would become noticeably impatient. He would begin to fidget and make complaining 'Squritle!'s at Keith. That said, for all of his determination to become a Trainer, Keith was actually somewhat hesitant to enter the tall grass. I feel like I don't know enough about Ashton's moves. ...All two of them. I mean, what if something goes horribly wrong? Keith fretted, before Ashton finally let out a sigh and dove into the tall grass for a battle all by himself, leaving Keith to run behind him. "Dang it, Ashton! Fine, we'll battle something! Just slow down!" Keith yelled at the escaping turtle, who would continue roaming in the grass, looking to pick a fight.

Enjoying himself as he moved forward, Ashton the Squirtle was enjoying his time until he bumped into a carefree Venonat. The bug Pokemon was a newcomer to this part of town, and they weren't usually around here. This particular bug wasn't lost, so to say, but rather it was enjoying a nice walk before the sky would rain down. Speaking of the weather, the sky was getting quite a bit cloudy, as if a thunderstorm was about to loom over this small town. The Venonat was humming carelessly, skipping, hopping, and twirling in the air, until it bumped into a Squirtle. It wasn't mad, but it was happy to meet a new Pokemon! It tilted its head to examine the Squirtle, and even walked around it to check Ashton out. When the human finally caught up, Venonat realized what this could mean.... a battle! Yay! It jumped up and down in excitement!
A swarming (Level 3) Venonat appeared! OOC: just cloudy, not raining this battle. maybe next one or hail lol

Keith let out a small grin as Ashton happened to bump into a Venonat. Nice! They're not from this area - Swarming, if Professor Oak's show was correct. Keith noted, as he looked down at Ashton, who had assumed a stance that showed it was ready for battle. "Yeesh, am I boring you that much, Ashton?" Keith jokingly asked the rather large turtle, before sighing.
"Oh well. It can't be helped, I suppose. Alright, let's get moving, then! Use Tackle!" Keith commanded. That said, the adjusting weather wasn't to escape his notice. Brr. It seems like it'll begin raining soon. Good thing I packed a jacket... Keith congratulated himself, before remembering something else. Oh, right! Aren't Water types stronger in the rain or something? What a stroke of good luck.

The excited Venonat was certainly a good find and Keith had been fortunate in bumping into one. A knowledgeable trainer, it seemed that he had been keeping up to date with Professor Oak's talk show, which was aired throughout the entire region of Johto. All trainers were able to access and hear this information for themselves and thanks to this, Keith was instantly aware that Venonat were not native to this particular area of Johto. Known to live in dense, secluded areas of forests or jungles, it was certainly odd that a creature such as Venonat had managed to waddle it's way out from tall trees and shrouded foliage to the more open area of Route 29. Ooh well, this was a good opportunity for both Keith and Ashton. It would be their first battle and he might even be able to capture it in the process, if he so wished!
The clouds overhead turning to that of a suspicious and grim grey, the whole atmosphere around him screamed that heavy rain or a storm of some kind was on the way. If he wanted to avoid a downpour, it would've been wise to avoid a battle entirely or atleast make it a quick one. Especially since Ashton was so eager to starting up a little fist to fist action. If there was a positive to a sudden downpour of rain, it would be that Ashton's skills might've improved somewhat but there wasn't enough time to think too deeply about it. As soon as Keith gave his go ahead and spoke out an order, the energetic and impatient Squirtle hurriedly begun the battle. His chunky blue legs carrying him towards the Venonat, he watched as the purple bug braced itself. Antenna flicking, fangs twitching and fur rustling, the large eyed bug stood perfectly still and stared, as if examining every movement of Ashton, right up to the point of being physically tackled.
Feeling it's light body take a tumble, the Venonant fell backwards and rolled across the ground, mowing down blades of grass as it went. Madly wriggling it's feet, the round Pokemon managed to somehow pull itself back up before turning to face Ashton. All until it let out a shriek of glee. It had always wanted to partake it more battles and hiding in the forest never allowed it to do so! Tiny claws wriggling between it's purple fur, the Venonat hurried forward ad reciprocated with another tackle against the shell of Ashton. It dealt no where near as much damage but by the sound of it's shrill cries, it seemed to be having a good time.
Venonat: | Level 3 | Health: 59% ( 10/17 HP) Status: Normal Venonat used Tackle!

Keith grinned as Ashton scored a hit against the Venonat, resulting in the Venonant being laid flat on the ground, having taken a lot of damage. Good. It seems like this won't end terribly. Keith decided. Ashton seemed more excited than ever, getting back on all fours and staring in the Venonat's direction. That said, it would seem that the Venonat wasn't quite finished yet. It quickly leaped back to its feet, and charged for Ashton. Ashton was, unfortunately, unable the evade the attack, and was hit as well. That said, it didn't seem to bother Ashton close to as much the Venonant was bothered, though.
"Alright, Ashton. Let's go for another Tackle!" Keith commanded. The fight brought a smile to his face. I hope most of the battles in the future can be like this. Keith mused. Not just this easy to win - nice as that would be - but both Pokemon seem like they're having fun. However, the area around him would quickly darken and the sudden occasional gust of wind would spell out one rather big message - Rain. Lots of it, coming right his way. As such, Keith quickly took his bag off of his arm and grabbed his white jacket out of it, throwing it over himself. "No little amount of rain is going to stop us here, Ashton!" Keith informed with a grin. "You go as long and as hard as you want to!"

The playful Venonat was seemingly enjoying it's game of tackle with Ashton and he was as well. As the next round was about to start however it became apparent that he was taking things far too seriously as he began to run towards Venonat again at a high speed. He was not trying to go so fast however he was so excited that he continued to gain momentum before he ran into Venonat with a full bodied tackle that caused even more damage to the young bug type. Venonat was rather upset by this one as it really hurt and it had grown very tired after taking two collisions in such a short period of time. Trying not to let it's feelings get the best of it however it was it's turn to do some tackling. Venonat ran towards Ashton and rammed him with a full bodied tackle of it's own. It's tackle did a bit less damage than his but it was still not very nice however unlike itself Ashton handled the situation pretty well considering how young he was. As he recovered from the attack Venonat began to shake from both exhaustion and fear that Ashton was not going to show it any mercy after they had tackled each other twice now without holding back. The bug nearly began to cry as it looked into Ashton's eyes hoping he would show it a bit of mercy in the next round as he was certainly the stronger of the two Pokemon. Whether or not mercy would be shown was yet to be seen but another Tackle would more than likely knock the young bug type out given it's poor shape. Trying so hard not to burst into tears Venonat began to await what it's fate would be. The bug knew it had been asking for it by not holding back at all as it repeated the same attacks as Ashton but maybe the fact that it was so young would give it some level of mercy. Pokemon Battle
Venonat: | Level 3| Health: 17% (3/17 HP)Status: Normal Please have mercy! Move: Tackle
Keith's Ashton: | Level 5 | Health: 69% (14/20 HP) Status: Normal I am so sorry! Move: Tackle

Keith let out a grimace. Yikes. This battle seems to have suddenly taken a turn for the gruesome. Keith internally monologued, face not quite recovering the grimace that resulted from the Venonat's pure fear. Ashton had begun to retreat a little bit as well, probably realizing he had gone in too hard against the poor Venonat and had begun trailing backwards in pity and guilt. Keith gritted his teeth and decided Yeah, it looks like it has had enough. I think I'll go in for the capture now.
Keith would quickly turn to his side, shuffling around in his bag until he found a Pokeball. It would take a few moments, given that Keith's bag was a clustered mess, but he eventually would pull out a shiny red Pokeball. "Alright, try and make this easy on yourself. If I apologize, would you be willing to get into my Pokeball and let me train you?" Keith asked with a small grin on his face, before tossing the Pokeball at his helpless victim.

The battle had certainly taken an over dramatic turn. From being eager to battle to becoming on the verge of tears, either the young Venonat hadn't been taking the battle seriously or the last hit from Ashton touched upon a soft spot. Large eyes glistening, the mass of purple fur shuddered. If it had known battling was this tough, then maybe it was for the best that it's species masked themselves beneath the deep undergrowth of a forest. Though it didn't hold a grudge against the Squirtle or his trainer, the bug simply felt that it's energy had depleted far too quickly, to the point of it being almost scary. As the Squirtle backed off upon seeing the sudden change in the Venonat, he cautiously looked over to Keith, concerned about how the battle would progress if he ended up being given another order to attack. Luckily, Keith was on the ball, quite literally.
Pulling out a shiny new Pokeball from his bag, this was one of the few options presented to him that he could do. It was either to carry on battling and risk upsetting the Venonat further, flee; which would make this whole experience a waste of time or throw a Pokeball to attempt a capture. Sniffling to itself, the Venonat tilted it's body to the side as if looking curious, as Keith spoke out to it. Train? What did he mean? Gently moving his arm forward to throw the ball, the Venonat flinched before quickly looking away, antenna twitching at the feeling of something tapping into it's body. Popping open, the capturing device drew the Pokemon in with a flash of red light before clicking shut and landing between the blades of grass. Shaking multiple times, this was probably one of the most exciting yet nervous part of being a trainer. Finding out if a capture would be successful or a total bust. Clicking into place after a number of shakes, this time, Keith had been successful, meaning that he now had a Venonat on his team!
WIGGLE. WIGGLE. WIGGLE. . . . TING!

Keith grinned as he picked up the Pokeball that now held his new Venonat. In truth, the encounter could have gone a lot worse. Sure, Keith thought to himself, I'm pretty sure that I just traumatized this poor Venonant, but oh well. I'll just have to help it get stronger so that it doesn't get pushed around by pricks like me again. Keith decided. As Keith investigated the Pokeball, he felt a drop touch his hand. Looking into the sky, he noticed several raindrops falling onto the ground. It wasn't a very heavy rain yet, but it was more than enough to be an annoyance - not to mention, given the darker clouds on the horizon, it would definitely get heavier in a very brief amount of time. That thunder booming managed to be pretty ominous, too. Keith would frown and give a slightly concerned look to Ashton, who still managed to seem a little distracted by the Venonant's fearful expression. After a moment, Ashton would finally re-acknowledge Keith's presence. " Say, Ashton, what do you think about us just moving on? If you went against more powerful Pokemon, you would grow a lot faster." Keith proposed. There was no point in sticking around - Ashton couldn't grow much more while he was here, and the Venonant he had caught - I need a nickname for him, or this is going to get irritating - was still in pretty rough shape, so Keith doubted any training was going to be done. Ashton, fortunately, seemed to agree with Keith. Rolling over to Keith, Ashton jumped up and pressed the button on his Pokeball, returning inside. With all of that said and done, Keith would begin his brief walk to Cherrygrove, still mulling over a name for his Venonat. ...Bell. That'll do. Keith would decide. Venonat Name: Bell Gender: Male Level: 3 Attacks: Tackle, Disabled, Foresight Ability: Tinted Lens Nature/Personality: Timid
