As he became silent, Andrew felt as if he was being watched. He squinted carefully to decipher his surroundings. He could feel his heart racing which he found ridiculous; but it was hard not to be a little on edge after seeing so many scary movies with similar settings.
A pair of red eyes crossed his line of sight, causing him to flinch for a brief second. Though, as his mind finally comprehended the owner of them, he could only laugh. "Oh my god, I need to stop jumping to conclusions so quickly," he told his partner, placing his hand on his chest. Cascoon was the more aggressive-looking Wurmple evolution but still it didn't pose much of a threat. "Sanga, I know it's been a long time since we've battled together but I think you can handle this. What do you think?"
The wild encounter had managed to distract the pair from their quest. The Charmander, who was usually quite timid, didn't waste a moment to agree. Starting with a bug-type opponent would be a great way to ease back into battling. 'I'm ready.' "We can do this. Use Flamethrower!"

Though Cascoon was thrilled to see Andrew accept its offer to battle the bug felt an overwhelming sense of dread as the young man sent out CHarmander to start off the battle. Not having a single offensive move made the situation pretty bad but a type disadvantage put Cascoon into a sense of panic. Just when all hope seemed lost however it started to pour down raining taking away some of CHarmander's type advantage even if that still left the lack of damaging moves as a huge problem. That and being slower allowed Charmander to get off its attack even before Cascoon could harden itself in desperation. The rain decreased both the power and range of the fire types flame but Cascoon was still not able to avoid the Flamethrower completely causing moderate damage and leaving the bug at quite a disadvantage as the flame finally died down. With no other attack Cascoon used Harden to try and boost its physical defense though it would not help in any meaningful way if Charmander kept using ranged attacks such as Flamethrower. Its high hopes for this battle were quickly falling apart as Cascoon felt dumb for picking a fight in the first place. Unless a miracle happened there was very little hope for it to somehow win this battle. Battle Weather: Rain Cascoon | LV 15 HP: 70% (31/44) Status: Normal, Defense +1 Used Harden!! VS
Charmander | LV 8 | Blaze HP: 100% (26/26) Status: Normal Used Flamethrower

Using Running Shoes so Sanga can use Flamethrower twice.
As the battle began, the mist that had veiled the forest finally lifted. Unfortunately, while the surroundings became clearer, any icy rain had began to fall. "Okay, the lucky streak is definitely over," Andrew confirmed. This battle wouldn't be as easy as he'd hoped for. The first round of the battle confirmed this as the wild Cascoon took less damage than expected.
"Sanga, try to keep sheltered," Andrew suggested. Not only were lizard's fire-type moves were weakened by rain but it also posed a threat to quenching the flame on his tail. 'It's fine, we can do this quickly!' Sanga assured his trainer. He could sense that his opponent was having its doubts, even though the weather had evened things out a bit more. "If you're sure you're okay with this, let's keep going then. Let's try to move fast. Maybe you can try to hit it with a double Flamethrower!"
With so much happening, any thought of the Farfetch'd was still lost. However, now that the mist had cleared, it would surely be easier to spot the mischievous birds.

Even though it seemed everything was stacked against the cascoon the harsh lick of the usually powerful flamethrower was sanded down by the consistent patter of rain dripping through the thick trees of Ilex. Normally when a trainer sent their fire type up against it the cocoon pokémon would barely have time to think before it was unconscious. It was a small victory though. Surviving one, even two of the charmander's attacks didn't mean much in the long run since Cascoon couldn't remember any of the moves it had known in its previous evolutionary stage. More rounds of the struggling flames bellowed through the gloomy ravine, and after each one the embarrassed cascoon couldn't do anything but harden its defenses. The effort didn't even work to further stay the hand of each fiery finger that wrapped itself around the silky body. What a dunce it had been. But, it still stood... or lay rather. Intact and conscious the cascoon had survived not one, not two, but three flamethrowers. That was morale boosting if nothing else. Something to brag about later on perhaps. Of course this was to do with the veil of rain shielding the worst of the fire but that was a detail that could be skipped in the recounted tale. Battle Weather: Rain Cascoon | LV 15 HP: 11% (5/44) Status: +3 DEF Used Harden! x2 VS
Charmander | LV 8 | Blaze HP: 100% (26/26) Status: Normal Used Flamethrower! x2

Sanga uses Flamethrower again
Andrew couldn't tell if the rain was to blame for Sanga's performance or if he'd pushed the lizard to battle too soon. The thought of risking the fire-type's health again made him nauseous. He wasn't fully sure if he was even ready to battle.
Andrew bit his lip as he watched the repeated breaths of fire whittle down the wild Cascoon's health. Flamethrower was evidently effective as the opponent looked weaker with each hit, but still, the process was very slow. The only comfort here was that Cascoon seemed incapable of using any offensive moves.
Although part of him wanted to interrupt the match and rescue Sanga from the rain, he was afraid of hurting the timid Charmander's feelings. "You're doing good, just one more should do it." He quietly readied the fire-type's Poké Ball to recall him as soon as the battle ended. Now that the rain had cleared up the mist, he wouldn't need Sanga's help to navigate.

As Cascoon hoped for some kind of miracle to win this battle it knew all hope was lost as the final Flamethrower headed straight for it. Even with the rain continuing to weaken Sanga's attack the final Flamethrower was more than powerful enough to defeat the bug. Sanga could feel a rush of energy as his level went up a few times for his hard fought victory even if the rain did damper the celebration a bit as there was no decent way to prevent his tail from getting wet. While he celebrated a small string shot from a nearby bush sticking to the Cascoon as it was pulled into the bush by a few bug types to prevent Andrew from capturing it. Even though Andrew had lost his chance to capture the bug type things had gone very well in this battle and the levels Sanga gained would make him a bit better prepared for the Pokemon living deeper in the forest who could fight back a bit better than the Cascoon who had failed to even remember a single offensive move. The rain showed no sign of stopping but if Andrew stayed in the ravine he would surely encounter another Pokemon soon as the flamethrower attack was quite a rare sight and a few Pokemon would likely come to investigate unless he chose to leave while the path ahead was clear. Sanga gained 3 levels and 1 happiness. He is now level 11 with +1 happiness. Sanga is trying to learn Smokescreen but he already knows 4 moves. Would you like him to forget a move so he can learn Smokescreen?
