Their speeds were evenly matched. However, a moment of hesitation before it lunged to devour the azurill gave River the chance to assail the snake with more bubbles. The ekans was knocked back and into a coil, where it remained tightly balled up. Defeated. Cowed into submission. "Next time...I will defeat you, tassssssty," it hissed weakly. However, it was now no longer a threat. No doubt it would stay coiled there until Wren left and it could retreat somewhere quiet and dark to rest off its injuries. From a nearby window, Wren would see big eyes watching them. The kids waved—thankful their precious pet wasn't eaten by a big, bad, dangerous snake. The skitty even popped up and waved her tail, pawing at the window. Wren could rest easy knowing that they did a good deed, even if it wasn't the one they initially came to Cherrygrove to do.

As soon as River released her final bubblebeam and conquered the opposing Ekans, they ran right up to River and held her gently, minding her injuries. Their hearts were both racing; Wren realized River's power had increased by a lot and was able to show off a new move! "You did great, River! Get some rest, dear." They allowed the tiny blue mouse back into her pokéball. A sigh of relief escaped them. Returning back to the world of the living, the newbie trainer noticed the kids and their pet Skitty from before and gave them a friendly wave. They also passed up on the opportunity to capture the Ekans. It was just too creepy for them.
Back to business; the Ferguson's should be somewhere around here. They disembarked to find Juniper Street 4.

Diggy-dig, diggy-dig. Diggiest dig dig dig!As Wren walk along, they searched the street signs for Juniper. Eventually, they would indeed find the sign, which meant yes, they were on the right track! Diggy-dig, diggy-dig. Diggiest dig dig dig!Another glance at the address, they went down the street to find the right door. All was peaceful. No terrifying snakes trying to eat adorable pets here. Nope. Just some grandmas watering flowers and kids scampering around in the cool mist. A little boy shrieked as his baby sister took his bug net and whacked him with it. She giggled and shouted, "Now you're the weedle!" The 'fight' devolved quickly into a game of chase—a pleasant, innocent sight. Diggy-dig, diggy-dig. Diggiest dig dig dig!Ah, there was the correct porch. Wren would make to approach the little white house with slightly overgrown grass and the curtains drawn. There was...an eerie sense of sadness about this home. That made sense. It would be hard to function if your child was missing. Sure, he was on a pokemon journey, but parents would worry endlessly if their little boy didn't answer the phone after a couple of days. The neglect of their property was just starting, no doubt their time and energy spent elsewhere other than the prettiness of their home. Diggy-dig, diggy-dig. Diggiest dig dig dig! Before Wren could step onto that first porch step, something shifted under their other foot. Suddenly, they were losing their balance as the earth itself seemed to erupt right under their feet! They'd need to scramble to catch themselves before they face-planted into the stairs and cracked their face open. But whether they fell or stayed upright, when Wren looked to see what happened, they'd spy a diglett staring back at them. And then they'd notice the numerous holes littering the yard. Oh no. Already this couple had so much to worry about and this diglett probably was making things worse by wrecking the lawn.

The somber sight of the Ferguson's residence struck a chord in Wren. The context of the situation reminded them of when their sister went missing at the start of their journey, though she was eventually found. That feeling of dread and worry was all too potent in the surroundings, and now a stray Diglett was making a sandbox of the poor family's lawn.
Wren released Vera, who they're fairly certain that grass types do well against ground types. She landed gracefully, vines at the ready. "Show 'em what you're made of with a Vine Whip, Vera!"

Wren made a very apt deduction. The diglett under Wren's feet avoided the first smack of vines that came its way, digging underground. It popped up behind Vera and scratched her. "Hey! Why are you attacking me," it complained. "I didn't mean to knock over the human. I was minding my own business and they stepped on ME." Of course, its complaints were cut short by another vine smacking down right on top of its head. The naturally frail diglett was immediately dazed and knocked out cold. Well, it was currently no longer going to menace the lawn, but if left here, it probably would go right back to its business when Wren left. The holes dotting the lawn likely wouldn't get better... It was just a wild pokemon living its life, not meaning harm or malice. But it certainly wasn't making this family's life easier by turning their lawn into swiss cheese.

Wren knew that leaving the Diglett here was a bad idea. We don't have a ground type yet, this could be a good opportunity! They thought to themselves. Their train of thought was interrupted by a very proud Vera poking them with a vine to attract their attention. "You walloped them! Good job, Vera!" They high-fived the vine as they carefully extracted a PokeBall from their bag. "What's one more rascal on the team, right?" "Bul!" "Well said!" They gently pressed the activator of the ball on top of the knocked-out Diglett.
Enough distractions! It's time to help that family! They rapped their fingers against the door, listening for a response.

The diglett was absorbed in the ball that Wren had used easily without any trouble whatsoever, so it seemed that it wasn't really putting up much of a fight after it was unconscious. However, there was still the much harder part here, the family that had requested aid. It was only a few moments after the knock was done on the door that there were sounds of movement inside the house. It would only take a moment or two before the door slowly opened to a middle-aged man who looked far older than he probably was. While a smile was probably more suited to his tan and freckled features, it was instead set to a small frown with visible bags under his eyes from little sleep.
"Hello, how can I help you?" he asked as he looked at the young trainer who had knocked on his door. Perhaps this had something to do with their request. Those tired eyes seemed to light up ever so slightly with the thought and the smallest hint of a smile traced his features. "Have you come because of our request? Please trainer, our son Timothy started his Pokemon journey but he said he was going to call us after he got through Route 30, but we haven't heard anything. " he looked remorseful because he couldn't go himself.
"I would go look myself, but my wife is sickly so we can't go very far. Would you mind terribly looking in route 30 to make sure our son got there safely?" he asked. Even if the trainer hadn't come with the ad that had been posted it seemed they had been tasked with the request even so.

Wren put on a dutiful and confident demeanor despite their growing anxiety. They swallowed, face steeled. "Yes, sir. My team and I can find him, no problem." They gripped their bag a bit tighter. "By the way, um, there was a wild Diglett tearing up your lawn. I caught it, but after we find Timothy I can help you clean up." They bowed respectfully towards the end of their exchange with Mr. Ferguson, and started heading towards Route 30. ___ Time was certainly passing, evening came and nightfall was on the horizon. Thankfully the mist wasn't too thick to where they couldn't see. Suddenly down the street, Dante the Wurmple busted out of his Pokéball. The chubby red worm restlessly crawled towards the trainer and let out a cry. Wren was confused, then realized they had technically absconded with the Oran berry he took fair and square. His tiny front legs wiggled upwards at Wren, confirming their suspicion. "Right, your berry. Sorry about that, little buddy." They scrounged for the berry and gave it to Dante, who quickly ate it. Hunger satisfied for now, he stared expectantly at the trainer. "What's wrong?" "Wurrr!" " Yes?" Only a persistent cry. "Do you want me to carry you?" "Wur-ple!" They assumed that meant yes. Crouched down, they laid their arms out to a sort of ramp the pokémon can climb up. Wren had to be careful of his poisonous stingers, but otherwise he was just a squishy little dude. They chuckled, shucking their bag back onto their shoulder. Off they go, into the night. ___ DiglettName: Glyn Gender: Male Level: 8 OT: Jade "Wren" Undergrove Moves: Sand Attack, Scratch, Growl, Astonish Ability: Arena Trap Nature/Personality: Brave; upbeat and gung-ho!

The man raised an eyebrow as Wren seemed to apologize about the lawn and then he smiled faintly. "Timothy usually offered that as well," he said quietly but then said more reassuringly, "it is very nicely offered of you, and we will be grateful for any help. Don't worry about it though, digletts are wonderful for garden grows and we get visited by them often, my neighbor has roll which can flatted it out and next year the grass will look even greener than it does now."
The night was quiet but mist tended to do that, nobody slowed Wren down on their trek through Cherrygrove City as most people were asleep and nighttime pokemon stayed in the dark alleys. The route outside was quiet as well although they would be able to hear things scurrying through the tall grass, the question was where Wren would start his search? If it was another trainer and they had gone missing, they probably wasn't on the big main paths which lead directly to Violet City, since then he would already have reached the next town and would have called home. So the question was where he had gone to, and how Wren was going to figure that out. Then they could always worry afterwards about whether Timothy was just caught up in training and catching and had lost track of time, or if something serious had happened to him. A dark shadow suddenly and unexpected stepped out of the mist. It had the height of a teen but was way too wide to be a human. "Quaaaaaag," the quagsire rumbled quietly and held out its hands in which three things lay. One thing shimmered even in the dim light, another was a very, very recognizable red and white sphere and the last looked to be.. mud? The quagsire would continue to offer the items until Wren took them, perhaps it felt their good heart with their current goal? It silently disappeared into the mist again. (ooc: unsure if you are still in the city or out on the route, since you are going to be looking for someone on the route I'm going with that. If you want to return to the city, just roleplay that)

Thankful of the Quagsire's gifts, Wren took them happily and gave a gentle pat to the damp Pokémon's head. They continued their search. It was a shot in the dark, but they had a feeling Timothy would be somewhere in the forest. They ventured deeper into the night. They used their phone as a flashlight to guide their way, Dante cradled in one arm. The fat worm was being a watchful guardian of his benevolent provider of berries. Wren travelled slowly, thoroughly scanning between the trees and brush for anything that moves.

Timothy could very well be in the forest, that was very likely, problem was just that route 32 and the forest was pretty big, and in this darkness Wren would risk walking more or less straight past his target without ever noticing. Going around aimlessly wouldn't be very fruitful, it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. There were several ways one could handle the task at hand, a lot liked to ask around to hear if someone had seen the missing person, or had any idea where they might have gone to, there just weren't many people to ask out here in the wilderness in the middle of the night. Wren could of course also try get his pokemon to ask the wild pokemon to hear if they had seen anything that might be a clue. Another course of action could also be to get the help of their pokemon and spread out to search a wider area for clues about the missing trainer. A splash was heard further ahead and soon the ground got very soggy, it almost seemed like it was flooding. Another splash and a brown pokemon would wade through the light of Wren's flashlight, through the slowly rising water dragging a branch after it to the dam it was building. At first sight the bidoof's little dam looked like they all did, a bunch of sticks and branches and mud piled up so they blocked most of the creek's water and made a little pond behind it. At a closer look there were some more unusual things in the dam, most visible some metal tent poles, and some frizzy colorful cloth which probably was a towel. There were other things but that would require some more poking around in the dam. Now, there was no one who say that these things had belonged to Timothy, but it was things which a trainer often would bring. It left Wren with several options, they could try go through the dam and see if there were more clues hidden in there, although the bidoof surely wouldn't like that very much. They could also try ask the bidoof for information, more or less aggressively depending on whether Wren wanted a battle or to try catch it. They could also search the area to see if Timothy was nearby, or if there were any clues about his whereabouts. Wren considered that the unusual items definitely belonged to somebody who was out in the route, and that it might be a promising sign. They put Dante back in his pokeball and calmly approached the busy Bidoof building the dam. They descended to one knee. Quagsire's gift from earlier might help here, if Bidoof is building a dam. Couldn't thick mud work here?
Without making any sudden movements, the trainer unwrapped a soggy tissue that held the ball of mud from earlier. They offered it to the Bidoof tentatively. "Hi, little guy. If I give this to you, could you show me where another smaller human went from here?"

The bidoof cocked its head at the trainer, curious about the shiny ball of mud it was offered. Curious paws reached up and it swiped the little orb, rolling it in its paws. Hm. It was rather hard. Not good for building a damn with. It smacked the ball against one of the tent polls like a buizel trying to get a shellder open. As Wren got a closer look at the remains of the tent, it was pretty obvious that this couldn't be too recent. If it did belong to Timmy, why would he rush off an abandon his gear? Was there a storm that broke the tent and he was unwilling to go home? Did he forge ahead to Violet to purchase new supplies? Of course, it still remained possible that this didn't even belong to him at all. Bidoof tossed the mud ball aside, deciding it just didn't work for making these weird branches stick together. It moved to gnaw on one. There were rips in the fabric. Muddy stains. Perhaps from falling into the river? they didn't look too bent, as if there was a traumatic impact that distorted the supports out of shape. A little more looking around and Wren could rest easy in any fears of Timmy drowning. It looked like there were ruts in the soft earth where the Bidoof dragged its weird branches to the river. Of course, as Wren tried to coax this wild pokemon to help, explaining they were looking for a small human that passed through, someone else just HAPPENED to walk by. Someone who wildly misunderstood why they were standing over a bidoof while said pokemon worked on its damn. "HEY YOU! IT'S AGAINST REGULATIONS TO INTERFERE WITH BIDOOF DAMS. I WON'T HAVE YOU VANDALIZING THAT POOR CREATURE'S HOME!" Uh oh! Looks like Wren would have to battle so they could explain themselves! The bidoof just tilted its head, curious about the ruckus.

With their gamble having failed, it shouldn't have surprised Wren that they looked suspicious while interacting with a Bidoof in the middle of the night. They panicked and jumped back, grabbing a random PokeBall, landing on Mina's. The electric sheep came out in a sleepy puff, tail curled around it's side like a sleeping Litten. "I-It's not what it looks like; I'm trying to find someone!" The trainer babbled.
Mina, waking up from a nice nap, made a humming sound during the commotion. They stood up and stretched to see the opponent's Nidoran, and jumped into a defensive position, releasing a ThunderWave before Wren could instruct her.

"Really?" Nikki responded in a disbelieve tone. "If you're looking for someone, then why are you with a Bidoof in the middle of the night? Nidoran, give them a warning with a Growl!"Mina prepared her throat for a growl, but Mina's electricity was faster as the thunder wave quickly darted toward the poison type. The light blue hare limped for good several seconds as the electricity numbed every inch of her body. She was struggling to move real hard at first, but finally managed to clear her throat before letting out a warning growl. Mina could feel the threat coming from this tiny rabbit. "Bidoofs' dams are important in the ecosystem, do you understand?" the ranger added a warning after her Pokemon's growl.
