One more razor leaf had the non-shiny bidoof stumbling. It hit the ground, contemplated curling up, but as soon as it could get its legs working, it chose to flee instead. It was done! Time to go hide. Let the big, golden bidoof handle this! That meant when Mischief tried to rake their claws down the weaker bidoof's side, they missed and hit the golden bidoof instead. Whoops! Then again, perhaps that was to be expected. The shiny bidoof was rolling around pretty erratically. It rolled and rolled and rolled, getting faster and stronger as it made another pass into Vera before bouncing into the path of Mischief's paws. It was hard to tell like this if the shiny bidoof was ready to give in, but all they could really do was keep fighting until it stopped. Ranger Nikki watched with fascination, gaze following the regular bidoof that fled back to the dam. A small frown pursed on her lips as she put together the scavenged tent poles and that missing camper report. "...I wonder...if it's possible this golden bidoof was aggressive enough that it could have chased a young camper away from his gear? If this missing boy was spooked by a strong wild pokemon, he might have run off without his camping gear and thus the bidoof turned it into material for their dam." It was just a wild guess, as they couldn't be sure this tent ever belonged to the boy. But...she couldn't deny how territorial this bidoof was compared to most. Ranger Nikki had a great point, though Wren was still unfamiliar with the region and Bidoof's usual behavioral patterns. The theory made place in the back of their mind as they continued their first double battle. The battle itself is going swimmingly, the little Bidoof having retreated. The trainer remarked under their breath how this time the impact of the shiny Bidoof's second rollout seemed to hit much harder. "Are you okay, Vera?" "Bul!" The Bulbasaur all but barked as she put on a brave face. "I know that really hurt, but you got 'em on the ropes! One more time!" They cheered, throwing a fist up into the air in a strong stance like when Leon performed at Ballonlea, minus the specific hand gesture. "Mischief, scratch one more time as well!"

The razor sharp leaves and just as sharp claws a moment later, was more than what the territorial bidoof could handle and it collapsed on the ground, all alone now its smaller sibling had left it to handle things on its own. Ranger Nikki watched calmly, it wasn't the first time she had seen things like this happen, although it was rare that not only one but two of the participants in a battle was of such rare color. "This aggressive it can be a trouble for other less skilled trainers than you, especially if it has really chased Timothy deeper into the forest," Nikki said thoughtfully and then frowned, "and it could even mean trouble for the area if it gets out we have a shiny here, the area will get swamped by hunters, even if its 'just' a bidoof," she did some air quotations marks with her fingers, "unless..." she looked at Wren. "Do you plan on catching it? If nothing else you could try find it a fitting home, if you think its too risky running around with two shinies on you," she asked, TR and others sometimes targeted trainers with shiny or rare pokemon to try steal them. Wren seemed experienced though, even if they were just starting out. It was up to Wren of course, and whatever they chose to do, Nikki would support it and escort them back to the main path with a promise to meet up again tomorrow. Upon hearing Ranger Nikki's suggestion, Wren changed their mind. It would probably be best to relocate this Bidoof from such a beginner friendly route. They didn't like the thought of splitting up the golden Bidoof from its family, but it would ultimately keep it safe from poachers or Team Rocket. Before addressing how well their pokémon performed in the battle, Wren walked up to the dazed Bidoof and crouched down to his level, gently pressing the button of a pokéball against its forehead. "You've got a fire in you, little one. Let's find somewhere safe for you." After the iconic "click" of the pokéball sounded, the newbie trainer ran over to Vera and Mischief. Vera raised her vines and Wren took them, dancing in celebration with their starter. "Well done, Vera. Beautiful job!" Mischief propped up on his tail and waved his arms, seemingly looking to be picked up. Wren swooped up the little golden Sentret in their arms, and his tail wrapped around their arm like a magnet. "You did so well, Mischief. Boop!" The trainer playfully bumped foreheads with the little tanuki. Carefully returning the two pokémon to their balls, Wren walked over to Ranger Nikki. "You mentioned during the battle that the debris and camp supplies may have been Timmy's after all? Should we come back in the morning to continue this further?" "It could be...As I said before, it's unlikely, but...if it is...the aggression of that bidoof could explain why he didn't come home when he supposed to do so? If he had to abandon his campsite and perhaps try to journey forward, it's possible that he had to go to the closest town rather than back home. Which would be Violet up the road. It is impossible to know for certain, but as a ranger, you have to always think of the possible scenarios in which humans and pokemon could come into conflict! Though we cannot discount the possibillity that he just became very excited about his first pokemon journey and has forgotten to call home. Until we find evidence that he camped here or that he is somewhere else entirely, saying exactly what happened or what state he is in is impossible. We can simply hope for the best and keep our eyes open." Niki spent their discussion time escorting Wren back to the main path. "Now, it is dark. You should stay on this main path and either go ahead to Violet or backtrack to Cherrygrove to rest. It isn't safe for you to wander around the park and possibly end up in a river when us rangers are here. That's our job. Okay? You seem like you really want to help and I commend that, but it's also my job to make sure trainers stay safe." It was on that cue that a weedle, who was minding its own business, slipped on an overhanging branch...and fell onto Wren's head. PLOP!

An opportunity had presented itself upon their head, ultimately jump-scaring Wren. This opportunity being a spooky little bug with a bright red nose. The trainer hesitated for a second before carefully picking up the pokémon and placing it on the ground beside them. Wren backed up to give it some personal space as not to scare it more than it already has been. "Glad I caught you, there. Wanna battle?" They asked, one hand grabbing Dante's pokéball and releasing the silken cocoon from his slumber. His beaming black eyes stared at his opponent-- not quite maliciously, but rather inquisitively. The Wurmple chirped a "Wurr" sound, wiggling his tiny front feet. "Who's this?" He seemed to say.
"Maybe a battle is in order. You had a big meal after all!" Wren reasoned without much need. It was going to be a little while till they were going to sleep, so may as well practice their battling strategy and help Dante train a little. "Let's use tackle, Dante!"

The Weedle, startled and shaken from its unplanned descent onto Wren's head, found itself in the midst of a battle without much warning. It shook off the initial surprise, its beady black eyes, like two obsidian orbs catching the dim moonlight filtering through the canopy, narrowed as it focused on its opponent, the inquisitive Dante, the Wurmple. The Weedle, its tiny, needle-like stinger bristling with readiness, couldn't help but muster a challenge. "Weee," it hissed, the sound oddly melodious, like a distant wind chime in a gentle breeze. With a quick, venomous flick, the Weedle unleashed a barrage of Poison Stings. The small, toxic darts glistened in the moonlight, arcing towards Dante with a deadly grace. Dante, however, was no stranger to the art of battle. With a nimble twist and a burst of silken speed, it dodged most of the incoming poison needles. With a burst of energy, he lunged forward with a Tackle attack, his little body transformed into a blur of motion, striking the Weedle head-on. There was an explosive burst of energy as Dante's soft, silk-covered body collided with the Weedle's chitinous carapace. The Weedle staggered back, its tiny legs skittering, but it refused to yield. It rallied, its tiny form trembling with determination, the bright red nose glowing with a fierce defiance. Dante's skillful avoidance of most of his opponent's Poison Stings wowed Wren. They were surprised the squishy, silken Wurmple was as dexterous as he was. "Awesome job, Dante! Let's see that again!" Dante booked it with his little legs to engage with the Weedle once more. "Wuurrr!" He sounded as a battle cry.

Wanting to impress after Wren even more after that show of dexterity, Dante puffed himself up and charge the wurmple again. The shrewd eyed little worm hissed again, nubbin legs flailing at an attempt in buggy intimidation. Its stinger gleamed in the partial light as it brandished its weapon like a knight would a sword. However, it did not charge Dante. Instead, it used its higher posture to launch a sticky webbing like a net over its foe. Dante found himself suddenly floundering for footing and fighting to trudge through the gunk. <Not so agile now, huh?> the weedle taunted. But oh how that drove Dante forward. More determined than ever before! He managed to free his feet just enough to throw himself that last few inches to bowl the weedle over. They both went tumbling. Wren bore witness to Dante's astounding tackle, despite being bogged down by the opponent Weedle's string shot. They cheered from the sidelines, dropping their bag in the process. "Slowed or not, I'll still getcha!" Dante warned the Weedle. In order to win the battle, the fat little worm pretended that ten oran berries were on the line for this battle. Oh, how he loved the taste. He shook himself out of the reverie to strike once more and tackled again without his trainer's instruction, which reminded his trainer to make the command. "That's right, Dante! Keep it up!" The newbie trainer used their hands to project towards the battle.

<Not if I get you first!> challenged the weedle with a buggy grunt. It lifted up onto its hind nubbins and sent poison barbs scattering all over Dante, who was still sluggish from the sting shot, and couldn't perform amazing acrobatics this time. He instead braced himself against the cutting barbs to charge as fast as his sticky feet could take him. ONWARD! The weedle hissed and tried to scuttle away, but Dante threw himself forward and slammed into the weedle. They both fell into a tangled, wormy heap. SCREEEE!!! <Off of meeeee!> the weedle complained. <Why are you so heavy??? How many berries have you been eating? The whole forest?!> It managed to free itself with a squirm and shake and poked at Dante with the barb on its head to put some distance between them. "I've eaten the whole forest! My sheer mass will not be deterred by your measly attempts!" Claimed Dante, sounding high and mighty. His ego was beginning to trip since he was winning the battle, despite being bogged down by string. His trainer's voice reached him through his war cry. "Let's go, Dante! One more time, Tackle!" Dante whispered ruthlessly after body-slamming the Weedle. "You will never defeat me; every berry belongs to moi!"

The wild Weedle blinked in confusion at the mighty claims from its fellow bug type. Take over the entire forest? Does he really think that he can accomplish that? There were many other Pokemon that lived here that would certainly have something to say about that. <Good luck with that, you better lower your voice before something more dangerous can hear you,> the smaller insect said, before firing another round of the poison pins at the Wurmple. Sticking into the soft body of the red worm, everything seemed normal until a light purple pallor moved across the face and upper body of the insect Pokemon. It was the slow spread of poison. <Mwahaha, feel my sting, trainer's Pokemon. Let my poison slowly circulate your veins and infect your every being!> However, not one to be attacked and taken advantage of, Dante slammed into the wild Weedle again, sending it rolling head over barbed tail. The other insect came to a rest and slowly stood up, its entire body shaking. It didn't have much left, but it would not yield to a human's Pokemon. Dante laughed at the enemy who was left dumbfounded by his bold-faced claim. "Oh, but it is true! Every berry, every leaf, and every forgeable has to have my seal of approval before anyone else can have some." The little worm rambled, caring not of potential threats. The immediate threat isn't much of a threat at all! That is, until the poison kicks in and Dante feels nausea from that and all the body-slamming.
"Ugh... I won't lose to another my size!" He proclaimed. His trainer in the back cheered him on, issuing another tackle command. Hopefully this one can tell if he is ill after stomping this Weedle into the ground.
Wren noticed Dante's sluggishness, but tried not to impulsively jump for the medicine. I have faith in Dante! He's really strong! They reasoned.

Along Johto's Route 30, a duel of determination unfolded between Dante, the daring Wurmple, and the cunning Weedle. Dante, entangled in sticky strings and poisoned from the earlier attacks, felt the creeping venom coursing through his body, sapping his strength. The Weedle, small yet resolute, eyed Dante's struggle. "Feeling the sting, are we?" it sneered, its voice tinged with a hint of satisfaction. "Every berry, every leaf, and every forage-able? That's a bit ambitious for someone wrapped up in my threads, don't you think?" The Weedle, smaller in size but steadfast in resolve, observed Dante's plight with a mixture of cunning and determination. It struck first with its Poison Sting, a calculated move aimed at weakening its adversary further. The venom seeped into Dante's system, causing the Wurmple to falter, yet his determination remained unbroken. Summoning the last vestiges of his strength, Dante readied himself for a final push. With unwavering resolve, the Wurmple surged forward and struck his adversary with a resounding Tackle. The collision was fierce, a clash of wills encapsulated in a single moment. The Weedle, already weakened, couldn't withstand the forceful blow delivered by Dante's Tackle. With a tremor, it slumped to the ground, defeated.
Weedle was defeated and is available for capture! Dante gained 3 levels and is now level 11! He is eligible to evolve!
