The sentret had the time of their life, right until something popped out of the blue without warning right beside it. It jumped startled and spun around to the unexpected arrival, so it stood face to face with the beige rat. The shiny rattata scooted back but the zigzagoon apparently didn't have much experience with trainer's and how they kept their pokemon in pokeballs. It pulled its toy closer and growled threateningly at Rattata, "this is mine! You won't get it!" It declared and had its fur not already been puffed out in all directions, it would have now. The striped normal type looked suspiciously at Rattata and stole a glance up where there were just buildings and closed windows, "where did you come from? How did you get here," it growled, it surely couldn't have jumped from the top of the buildings, that was way too high up, but from where else should he have come from? It noticed the human and the other brown pokemon further back, behind Rattata and it winced, "careful, there is a human and with a pokemon, they like to fight you and hurt you and leave you behind," it warned under its breath. As Rattata wasn't directly aggressive, it saw no reason to attack, not unless he tried to take its toy of course. "Well, I'm out of here!" It said and grabbed its toy, which now would be very clear to Eden that it was a hat, as it was lifted high up into the air, by the zigzagoon which turned around with one last glance to make sure they didn't try anything funny, and then carried it down the alley, away from them. Zigzagoon [Lv 9] does have a hat, but is very possessive of it. Weather will be clear

as eden had not yet gotten to know the personality of their pokemon - especially the rattata that they were actively avoiding spending any close up time with - they hadn't considered that the small shiny creature might not have been the best pokemon to send in to an interrogation. he was scared and quiet, a timid little creature beaten into submission by the harshness of the world that he'd grown up in, and had very little experience in actual conversation. he had always been talked at not to, insulted and ridiculed but never engaged in serious and important chatter. and yet he was the one sent forwards to discuss with this zigzagoon... something. no-one had actually told him the context for this either. the poor frightened rat only stood and watched as the zigzagoon spoke to it then, legs bent in preparation to run if he needed to. the growl had him quivering just a little but he held his ground for now, though he couldn't quite get his nerve together to answer any of the questions until the other normal type mentioned the nearby human. <oh, no, they're... fine, actually> he mumbled out, stumbling a little over every word as he glanced back towards eden. he really didn't know his new trainer well enough to say anything more yet, but it felt right to defend them just for their pokemon helping to defend him earlier. as the zigzagoon began to run off, sentret suddenly rushed into action, running forwards to the confused rattata to explain what was going on with the hat situation. she mostly gestured to it and to the zigzagoon now holding it, but it was enough for the rattata to get the picture. she didn't want to steal this task from hi given that eden had made the choice to use their least preferred pokemon for this, so she was happy to just provide guidance - but it was clear that some sort of coaching was needed. a moment later than, rattata was running after the fleeing pokemon, with a nervous call of, <uh, um, excuse me? could I... see that?> and very little plan to follow it up.

The zigzagoon rolled its eyes at what the rattata said about the human, he would learn in time, one way or another and now he couldn't say he hadn't been warned! The zigzagoon was not used to have stuff which was its own, other than food stuff but that was eaten and gone as fast as possible otherwise others would just take it from it and it would go hungry. For once it was full and had a nice warm place to rest in the nights so it had some extra energy to play and when it found the hat it was just what it had always wanted. It was hard to say why, but right now it was the funniest thing it had ever had. The striped normal type trotted away, in the typical zigzag pattern they usually used on the hunt for a more quiet place it could continue playing in peace. It tensed as it heard the pitter patter of small footsteps catching up to it, and as soon as Rattata spoke it spun around to face him. "Idfs mime! You bond get it!" It spat muffled through the hat. It grabbed it with one paw and growled as it kicked sand into the eyes of Rattata, "no, you can't see it, you just want to take it for yourself like anyone else, find you own!"It pulled the hat behind its back while it stared Rattata down, this didn't seem like it was going to be the "easy way". Zigzagoon was too used to live on the street and fend for itself to be willing to listen and believe in the good of a stranger. rattata hadn't really expected just asking to work. it was clear that the zigzagoon was very attached to the item it was carrying around with it, and wild pokemon were understandably defensive of the things that they'd gained for themselves. it was hard out there after all, so of course you wouldn't give something up without a fight. even so, rattata hadn't really expected things to get violent so soon. arguably a little sand in the eyes wasn't the worst sort of violence, but it was still an attack, still an instigation of a battle. and one that he was going to have to try and react to. sentret had held back as rattata had run ahead, looking back towards eden who seemed incredibly reluctant to go any deeper into the alley. they were dithering at the end of it still, occasionally taking a half-step forwards before stopping again, even as one of their two pokemon ran out of sight entirely as he chased after the rattata. sentret did her best to stay equidistant between the two, encouraging eden to move forwards with little beckoning hand gestures, while still keeping an eye on rattata to ensure he didn't need any help. he was still the least experienced of eden's current trio, and sentret imagined that she'd have to step in to assist him soon enough. not yet though - let him shine, or at least practice shining, before she intervened. that left rattata alone to consider what to do then. his goal was to retrieve the hat, not to hurt this pokemon, but he also didn't want to roll over and let it attack him like everyone else always did. eden had switched him out when he'd gotten into trouble last time, so he felt a little more confident that he'd get out of this okay, and that helped him feel ready to take more of a risk. aiming for the hat more so than the pokemon, rattata lunged forwards with a quick attack, hoping to take the zigzagoon by surprise. if he could snatch the hat and just make a run for it, he absolutely would do, but if that proved too difficult, he'd just have to hit the pokemon itself. maybe that would startle it and it would drop the hat in the process, and rattata would be close enough to pick it straight up?

"Why do you want it so badly?" the striped normal type spat suspiciously, "is it just because I have it? You need to get things others got just to show your power?" Not that it looked like the rat was going to answer many of its questions, but it couldn't just stand silent when the other continued to try pressure it to give up its valuables. It had once been naive and friendly, but encounters like this one where others demanded what it got, be it food or nest materials, had hardened it, and it had quickly begun to fight back. In the beginning that hadn't gone very well of course but it had never given up and now it was doing better, most of the time, it had also learned which areas and pokemon to stay away from, so it had a relatively easy life. When Rattata bolted the zigzagoon was ready, teeth bared and lunging forward. It would have ended badly had Rattata gone straight for an attack on the other normal type, but he wasn't, the goal wasn't to hurt the other after all. The shiny pokemon darted half around its opponent and gave it a push with his shoulders, he was smaller and the zigzagoon a lot more bulky so it didn't do much other than push it a bit out of balance. It was just enough, Rattata snatched the hat with his teeth and pulled it free from the surprised zigzagoons grip. It took two heartbeats, the a furious scream which turned to a deep growl came from the zigzagoon and it bulldozed after the escaping Rattata, making a shiver run down his spine. "Your tricky *****! You're going to pay for that!" The zigzagoon shouted as it fought to keep up with him. <um...> that was a slightly tricky question to answer actually. rattata didn't quite have the full story after all, and he was really piecing things together as he went. <I only asked to look at it...> he mumbled uncertainly, confused by the implication that he was doing this to 'show his power'. what power? he was only little, he didn't ha- oh! did this zigzagoon think he was just trying to be a bully, like all those rattata back home had been to him? <oh, no, it's not... it's just, that might not belong to you.> there, that was closer to an explanation, even if it was an incomplete one. in as much of a surprise to himself as it was to the zigzagoon when rattata's plan worked, and he almost dropped the hat in surprise a moment after picking it up. he recovered quickly enough though, and even as he felt his fur stand on end at the ferocity of the growl from behind him, he continued to skitter across the ground as quickly as he could, back in the direction of his sentret teammate and his trainer further down the alley, kicking his feet hard to propel himself away as fast as he could manage. sentret had missed the exact maneuver as she had been trying her best to coax eden forwards in that moment, but she turned in time to see the rattata rushing back towards them with item in hand... or in mouth more specifically. leaping into action herself, she stepped aside to clear a path for rattata to rush back through if he reached her without any complications from the chasing zigzagoon. she would try to leap into its path if the other pokemon got close enough for her to manage that, though speed was not her strength like it seemed to be rattata's. still, if things got understandably violent now, she'd be able to take the brunt of the battle that rattata might be unable to manage.

The zigzagoon narrowed its eyes, ""for whom? it asked suspiciously, was this rat just a henchmen for someone, was there someone bigger fish who'd want its prize which it would have to prepare for. It snapped for breath offended at what Rattata said next, "not mine?! Oh I can tell you it is mine! I found it! It was discarded and I found it and made it mine! Who else should it be? Don't come and tell me it's yours now, it's definitely not yours! If you think..." It rambled on but got interrupted as Rattata shouldered it away and snatched the hat, and darted down the alley with it. The zigzagoon exploded. The striped normal type was too blinded by rage to realize where Rattata was running, had it had a clear mind it might have given up on the hat when it saw it brought them closer and closer to the human. Now it just tried to pick up speed and rammed into Sentret sending them tumbling over the ground when she jumped out to stand in the way. It groaned as it rolled to its stomach and looked around dazed, its eyes widened. "You.. you are with them?!" it exclaimed, "I should have known it! Humans always have the weirdest idea and is always trying to make it harder for us wild pokemon," it growled and glared from Sentret to Rattata. "Give it back!" It demanded as its eyes darted to the hat. Wild Encounter Weather: Drab (clear) [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Zigzagoon LV 9 HP 86% [24/28]

had rattata's mouth been free, he might have tried to explain that 'finders keepers' was not enough sometimes, that someone else could have lost this and it simply found it while they were looking for it. if the wind picked up the hat and took it from zigzagoon and another pokemon found it, would it belong it them now? ... well, maybe actually, if that was how ownership worked out here, so maybe it was best that he couldn't respond to the argument with anything but a muffled squeak anyway. sentret managed to time her movement just right, and a strong attack that may well have been too much for poor rattata to handle sent her rolling backwards in a tight ball. she was quick to jump back to her feet though, facing the zigzagoon with tiny hands curled into confident fists. a quick glance over her shoulder confirmed to her that rattata was safely on his way back to eden, so she was ready to continue the battle with an attack of her own. before she could however, a shriek interrupted the scene as eden's instinctive response to the presence of a rat jumped ahead of their logic in the moment. "oh, it's just you," they confirmed a moment later, having already leapt on top of a discarded piece of furniture at the side of the alley by now anyway. they did not climb down despite the truth being clear now, and instead just waved a hand at the rat. "just... put it down and... step away." rattata did as he was told - he'd had so many years of bullying in his original home that eden's attitude to him didn't flag as particularly negative, which was... concerning perhaps. the trainer slowly and reluctantly stepped back down to the floor again, picking up the hat and turning it in their hands, while trying to keep their gaze partially on their own rattata at the same time. "ugly hat anyway," they mumbled to themselves, before glancing back over towards sentret in her own battle. while the hat was being recovered, sentret had tried to reclaim the time she had lost from the switch in by launching a quick attack of her own, aiming to push the zigzagoon back up the alley away from her little family. if it gave up and ran away, all the better, but she would defend this narrow gap in the alley with all her strength to stop it from getting past, like a goalkeeper at the pinnacle moment of an important game.

Now that the hat was in Eden's hands, she might notice that this wasn't exactly the picture of a "brand name" hat, which Eden easily would be able to spot with her knowledge of fashion. It was a nice top hat, for someone who didn't care about brands and the best of the best. It was a cheap cut though, made by a business who made hats for people who weren't in the top 1%. It couldn't be old enough to have been made for someone's grandfather, and it was rather dirty too, it looked like it had been outside for more than just a quick roll down the street. A common trainer without Eden's background and education in this important stuff, might think that this was the one they were looking for, but would Eden? Of course, she might think that the man she was currently helping was one of those commoners and this really was his hat. With sentret out of the way Zigzagoon advanced on Rattata, and soon Eden as soon as the hat had been passed on to her. It trotted determined forward, it was going to get back what belonged to it, and while it knew getting in a way of a trainer could be a bad idea, it had become too hotheaded to think clearly. Sentret wasn't completely out of the picture though, and the zigzagoon stumbled when the other normal type slammed into its side and sent it to its knees. It stared shocked at her, like it had expected her to run off after the initial attack, or perhaps having been knocked out. She was sent a suspicious glance and the striped normal type waved its tail gently, "this is not your battle, please," it said not wanting to battle two opponents at once. If she let her guard down, or it saw another opening, it would try dash past her and retrieve its hat. honestly, eden was very willing to believe that this was the hat in question at first. sure it was cheap and old and generally ugly, but so many people lied about brand names or just had no eye for actual style at all. if that had been all they'd had to go off, they probably would have shrugged and taken the hat back to the person who had been searching for one... but then there was the age issue. the person had specifically said that it was 'very old', and this hat had no history to it at all. "urgh," they groaned, having wanted this annoying errand to be finished with already, before tossing that hat back towards the nearby zigzagoon. if it was useless to them, there was no reason the stripey pokemon couldn't have it back, was there? rattata watched the whole thing in confusion, worried that perhaps he had let eden down by retrieving the wrong item. he couldn't tell yet that his trainer's ire was aimed at the object and not him, and was used to assuming that he was at fault for everything, and so his ears drooped sadly as he watched the scene play out. perhaps eden would release him now, perhaps he'd be forced back out into the harsh wilds again. oh no. oh no oh no... while rattata fretted, sentret watched the hat drop down beside her, her paw moving to touch at her chin in thought as she looked back up to eden. her trainer seemed ready to move on, which must mean this hat was not the one that they were looking for. well, there it was then, no harm no foul. she picked the hat up, dusted the top of it off, and held it out towards the zigzagoon. while she hadn't heard the conversation that he rattata partner had had with this pokemon, it was clear that the zigzagoon wanted to keep this item, and now that they had finished their examination of it, she was happy to return it once again. eden whined at their lack of progress, peering down the alley they now had to trek further in to. technically they could just give up now and say they hadn't been able to find it but their stubbornness didn't like the sound of that. "you." rattata jumped as he was suddenly addressed, his small form almost trembling with concern that he was about to be cast out... "you were fast. go run down there and find this stupid hat." immediately, his ears rose again in eager hope, a task! a second chance! yes, of course, he would be happy to assist! he charged back down the alley once more, almost barreling into sentret as he did so, before squeaking an apology and trying to dart around her, hoping the zigzagoon wouldn't try to stop him as he went.

The zigzagoon would take two steps forward to snatch the hat but then Sentret would pick it up and the other normal type would growl warningly and frustrated, why did they want its hat so badly? Where they simply just bullies who enjoyed the power and being able to push it around? It jumped and scurried back, rear up against a wall as Rattata dashed past it, fully expecting them to both jump at it at the same time, it looked confused when the rat continued far down the alley, and narrowed its eyes suspiciously when Sentret handed it the hat. "What are you up to?" It asked as it warily took a few steps forward, then snatched the hat out of Sentret's grip, "don't try anything funny! I'm keeping an eye on you," it growled. The alley Rattata ran through turned and opened up to another street with houses, as with most of Cherrygrove they were with a lot of green areas which in the summer would have tons of flowers. Right now it was all vacant and the greesns were sleeping as the weather got colder. "My hat?!" A male voice shouted distraut, but he was out of sight of Rattata, it was the the left and from a smaller road which lead back to the road they came from originally, which they would discover if they checked it out. But what the man was seeing was still a mystery. Wild Encounter Weather: Drab (clear) [attr="class","qkt-bkgd"] [attr="class","qkt-wild-pkmn"] Zigzagoon LV 9 HP 63% [15/28]

sentret frowned as her extended olive branch was growled at. it seemed there was just no communicating with some pokemon. she had been wild until recently too of course, she knew how perilous life out there could be. she understood the harshness and the need to defend yourself against it, but she also understood that battling was just the way of the world. it was done playfully between family members, it was a way to make friends and build connections, it was common and innocent and overall harmless. sure, it could be used to assert dominance or to cause real harm or to allow for theft or other crimes, but that was the anomaly not the norm. but then her mother had always called her a brave one, so perhaps that had something to do with it. perhaps she was the anomaly for not being worn down by the world. whatever the case, if the zigzagoon wanted to remain suspicious of her despite this evidence that she would not harm it, that was its own problem. with a sigh, she shook her head and turned to look back towards eden, ready to leave when she was given the signal to. the trainer did eventually step towards her, a sigh of their own turning into a groan as they yielded to the need to walk further down this alley. they were here already after all, might as well commit. sentret trotted after them as eden stalked grumpily in the direction rattata had already disappeared down without so much as glancing at the zigzagoon as they passed by. their focus was elsewhere already after all, and despite its clear aggression, eden was yet to really understand just how dangerous wild pokemon could be. sentret was still beside them anyway - she'd protect them if anything were to happen. rattata had been poking his nose into any point of interest on his rush down the narrow path, but it was a sound that caught his attention in the end. his ears pricked up at a voice sounding some form of distressed nearby - and talking about a hat of all things. glancing backwards to make sure that eden could see which direction he was about to run off to, he charged towards the noise in eager optimism to uncover another piece of the mystery.

Of course the zigzagoon growled, it was sure they were going to bully it and take its hat from it, just like they had done once. It had never tried anyone being friendly with it, nor could it fathom why they would be unless they had some sort of ulterior motive, it had been tricked before in the past and that had been some tough learning. It continued to growl as they passed it but stopped as they didn't even look back on it, instead it tilted its head. It perked its ears when it heard some shouting from a man quite far away and saw Rattata in the far end of the alley run off. It was torn between curiosity and logic but then it raised the hat high in its mouth and trotted after them at a good distance. "No nononono! This can't be happening! It's going to be ruined!" A man in a nice tuxedo while he pulled so hard at his hair he could pull it out. He was looking at a tree on the corner of two streets, in the summer it was clearly giving a lot of nice shades, and hidden in its genes, was the pretties spring flowers when that time came. Right now it was bare and looked like any other boring tree in the region which was hibernating. In the tree was a spearow, they were very common and known to be quite aggressive, although this one had all its attention on a nest on a branch below it, and didn't seem angry at all, a bit resigned perhaps. In the nest was a hat turned upside down, and inside the hat a little green head with a red horn-thing protruding out was peeking out. "Where is that useless girl when I need her?! It's her fault if this gets ruined!" the man whined as he watched his hat distraught. "Yes, its very nice and surely makes it safe for any eggs," the spearow said patiently to the ralts in the hat, "but we don't have any eggs which needs protecting now, and remember, we talked about that you need to fly the nest too. All of your siblings have already, everyone leaves the nest eventually," the spearow said gently and the head in the hat disappeared inside. The bird sighed, it had never had a hatchling which wouldn't leave the nest, it was unsure of what to do as all of its chicks had always left sooner rather than later. Perhaps it was because of its species? It had adopted the lone egg and while it had been no secret that the ralts had been different than the other bird hatchlings, they had loved it as much as any of its own. If Eden made her entrance, the ralts would pick up some sense which only psychic pokemon could and would peek up from the hat and towards her. A ralts has found a nice "nest bedding" but its caretake Spearow [Lv 8] disagrees. Weather will be chinook.(ooc: zigzagoon battle run from ^^ Unless otherwise stated I'll leave playing Ralts up to you. Thread reserved)

it was hard to tell whether eden even heard the words of the highly frustrated man clutching at his hair besides the tree. they only gave him the briefest look, rolling their eyes at the distress despite the fact that they would have been just as distraught over one of their own fashion items being dirtied by a pokemon. hypocrisy was always rife with eden though, so that was hardly a surprise. they certainly didn't seem to register the words if they did hear them, instead turning to look at their own rattata who had run up to the base of the tree. his front paw rested on the trunk as he peered up towards the branch far above his head. he was an okay climber and could probably rush up there if eden told him to... but spearow were not pokemon to be messed with, and he really didn't want to anger it by getting too close to its nest. maybe now that sentret was back here too, the stronger pokemon could retrieve the hat that rattata had led them to, if indeed this one proved to be the right one now. but could sentret even climb? he turned to look back at the approaching human and normal type, waiting nervously for instruction as eden stopped a few paces away from him and put their hands on their hips. from up close, they didn't think too much of this hat either. it certainly seemed older and made of a higher quality fabric, and it was either a brand name or a decent enough replica... but it looked pretty boring anyway. if it was down to eden, they'd just let the spearow keep it. it was better as a nest than an outfit accessory anyway. and then a little green head with what almost seemed to be a pink bow sticking out of the top of it from this angle poked over the brim and looked down at them. now that was more what a hat should look like, even though in this case it seemed to be more hair than hat for the pokemon looking down at them. they smiled back at the little creature - far cuter than the fierce looking bird beside it, and even let out a little, "hi there!" in baby talk towards it. the pokemon only responded by briefly ducking away before realising that the sound was not a threat and peering back down at eden once again. they looked around briefly as though searching for a ladder or similar to get up to the hat, before an idea finally reached them. sentret and rattata were both called back into their pokeballs, and bulbasaur was sent out instead. "can you use your vines to get that down?" they asked, pointing at the hat, and bulbasaur nodded, reaching two long vines up towards the hat in question - both trainer and starter oblivious to the way a spearow might react to apparently having its nest and final hatchling 'stolen' away from it.

"There you are! What have you been doing?! Weren't you going to help me get my hat back?!" The man accused distraught, perfect way to get someone wanting to help him, Eden surely dreamed of nothing else now. "Oh no, that dirty pokemon will surely ruin it! I'm dead, I won't live to see tomorrow if its not in pristine condition! I will never be allowed near it again!" The man whined and glanced at Eden in the hope of getting some sympathy. The spearow glanced down at Rattata but as it didn't expect the rat to be able to climb the tree, it didn't pay him much attention. Eden on the other hand, it eyed suspiciously and it fluffed out its feathers in distress as the human came close and chose to give them much more attention than it wanted. It's nest should be left alone, especially when there were youngsters in it which needed protection, even if that youngster was supposed to have left months ago. It did not become better when the female human called out another pokemon, that usually mean they planned on attacking and that it needed to protect its young. "Stay down," it quietly warned the ralts as it glared down at the bulbasaur. "Stay back!" The bird cawed a loud warning to the grass type, "pull those green things back or you will regret it!" It snapped, spreading its wings threateningly and staring down Bulbasaur making its intent very clear. He could of course follow orders but that would surely mean a battle with the protective Spearow. While Bulbasaur had not, hadn't Rattata heard the spearow wanting ralts to leave the nest? If the nest was not in use, surely the hat wasn't needed for it either? If in doubt they could always ask. Spearow does not like anything threatening it's nest, or its adopted hatchling! If attempted taken by force, the spearow [Lv 8] will attack. But perhaps there is another way? (ooc: Thread reserved)
