Eden had no need to buy some of the colorful candy cats now that the ones she knew before were in her possession, sent over by her mom. However, as she passed the stall again, heading out with her team of adorable pokemon, well, she heard a scream. The candy cats lady was hiding behind her stall, arms over her head, flailing helplessly as a very aggressive flock of spearow swooped down and caused absolute mayhem. A few ripped down her banner and others pecked at and stole her decorations. When Eden got closer, most of them scattered, but one remained on the middle of the table, flapping its wings and screaming its head off. <Get off out territory, human!> it screeched. <You and your nest do not belong here. BE GONE!> A [LV 8] Spearow is harassing the candy cats lady ooc// Them being given to her by her mom is perfectly fine!

Eden very nearly turned away at the sound of the scream. Their last 'good deed' had taken up far too much of their day and while they had earned a reward in the end, and caught themself two new Pokemon, they still weren't sure how they felt about the whole ordeal. Dirty alleyways and rude men - it had been a mixed bag overall, and Eden had rather been hoping for some me-time before having to help somebody else. But the world had different plans for them, and though they let out a very unsubtle groan of annoyance at the commotion, they did turn towards it all the same. After all, they'd just switched their team around and were eager to put their old contest babies into action, so they couldn't be too annoyed about the opportunity to do so. They grabbed the Pokeball of their Skitty, pointing it towards the screaming woman and the lingering bird, and let her out to land between themself and the lady with the stall. Valeria yawned, stretched her legs in front of her, and then trotted towards the lingering Spearow. She leapt up into the air, batting at the bird almost playfully before dropping back to all fours again and looking back towards Eden. The trainer made a shooing motion at the bird to try and get their intention across, though this was admittedly the first time the Skitty had been asked to fight rather than dance, so they weren't sure if she might need a little more prompting than that in the long run. For now, Valeria sat down, swishing her tail behind her and looking up at the angry bird curiously, head tilting as she wondered how she was supposed to shoo away a creature so high up in the air and so seemingly focused on a different task. Maybe she should try and scare off the stall lady as well? If it finished it's task quicker, maybe it would leave? No? She gave a curious meow to the bird in the hopes of getting its attention, standing up on her hind legs to swipe a paw at it once more. This would be fun either way, and much better than lounging at home in Eden's mother's garden all day... although that was pretty great too.

When the skitty appeared and harmlessly batted at the bird, the spearow turned its furious attention to Eden and her pokemon. The candy cats lady blinked in confusion, "That isn't one of mine..." Her eyes leapt to Eden. "Oh! Trainer! Please help me! These birds are destroying my display and I just sold the last of the candy cats... I have nothing to protect myself with." Which was very silly of her, and she felt rather stupid after saying it out loud, but her job didn't involved her needing to battle. Ever. She just shared adorable kitties with the world. And now she was covered in scratch and peck marks from an angry spearow, who now landed on the table and started to lunge at the sweet skitty aggressively. <I will peck your eyes out, infernal feline!> It was very clearly choosing violence. Which was not surprising. Spearow were known for their aggression and propensity to pick fights. Especially when in flocks. Little birdie eyes watched from the roof of a nearby building. Waiting to see if their solo friend would succeed in conquering this booth alone.
A [LV 8] Spearow is going to attack! What will skitty do?

If she'd sold all her stock, she could just leave, right? Walk away and avoid the Spearow's attacks by retreating indoors somewhere? She didn't need the cart anymore if she had nothing to sell from it, so she could just leave it here and it would get cleaned away by someone and then she could just buy a new one the next time she wanted to sell things. That was probably how these things worked, right? Eden might have been slightly out of touch with how street commerce actually functioned, but it didn't really matter as the woman was speaking directly too them anyway. They even tried to avoid eye contact, wondering if it was too late to put headphones in and pretend they couldn't hear, but there was no one else on the street she could have been talking to and they'd already made the mistake of eye contact now. Urgh, no easy way to wiggle out of this no then, although it seemed Valeria was a few steps ahead of them anyway. While the Skitty's energy didn't match that of the aggressive Spearow's at all, she didn't seem put off by the clear call to battle. Instead, she only briefly hesitated, tilting her head in curiosity for a moment, before leaping up to bat at the Spearow once more. This time however, it wasn't a friendly bap in the bird's direction, it was a full force, surprisingly fast dart forwards, intending to stun the creature who had threatened her. The Fake Out attack was followed up by something akin to a giggle as Valeria landed back on the ground and practically pranced back into position to face the Spearow again, ready for the next round of this more contact-based game. Eden watched on with a raised eyebrow as their kitten chose violence with such little change in mood. Oh well, at least the old woman would get off their case now that it seemed as though they were helping.

Though Spearow traveled with many companions, they lurked in the shadows with sharp eyes homed in on the strange looking cat. The gentle breeze that billowed through the open streets of Cherrygrove and rustled the colorfully blooming flowers in their beds afforded more noise than Spearow’s comrades who waited on the rooftops above. “You do not stand a chance against a superior creature like myself!” Spearow scoffed, lifting one wing up and folding it back over to point at itself. It swooped up high into the air and circled above. A strange scent lingered, wafting, and reminding the pink-winged avian of the sweet treats it planned to make away with in haste. Here was this strange kitten donned with a large pink bow tied securely to its neck meant to foil its hard earned plans. Talons brimming with sharp daggers stretched out underneath Spearow’s feathery body. It dived, preparing to latch onto Skitty and tear into the feline’s soft flesh. Skitty leaped, slamming Spearow out of the skies with a powerful attack. Shocked, it tumbled to the ground and fumbled a bit in the tall grasses. When did the atrocious cat learned to pounce like that?! Anger ignited the wild bird, who spun around and pointed a wing firmly in Valeria’s direction. “How dare you make a mockery of me!” There was no way such a buffoon of cat should have moved quite so fast. Puzzled, Spearow mentally spun wild, accusations inside of its head, trying to come to terms with what recently happened. Battling felt much easier to Eden than contests had done - though that was probably because they weren't very good at it yet. Contests were so active with you dancing along beside your Pokemon, putting as much effort into the performance as they were, but battling? So far they'd just sat back and let their Pokemon do all of the work so far... Which was actually where they were going wrong, but they hadn't worked that out yet. The wild Pokemon that they had caught had been so naturally inclined to battle that they hadn't needed any instruction - they'd just leapt into their fights on instinct. Eden's orders had been mostly seen as guidance rather than necessary, hence why they'd stopped giving them all together by this point, but that was about to change with their new trio of performance pets beside them who had very little actual battle experience. Valeria would ease them into that realisation though, as Eden frowned at the playful way that their cat was attacking the Spearow. She'd made contact, but even now she was bouncing around on her paws like this was some sort of game. Perhaps it was to her... but she'd need some sort of focus if she was actually going to win this. "Hit it again, Val," they encouraged when the cat only wiggled its tail in excitement at the bird being at last on the ground. Despite her naivety, Valeria did at least know that her last move wouldn't do anything a second time - you only got the element of surprise once after all. They went for a more ordinary Tackle this time then as paws pushed against the ground and sent them bouncing forwards towards the 'enemy' that she chirped merrily at as she approached. Eden rolled their eyes from behind the overly friendly Skitty though didn't intervene. For now at least, the attitude was only a little embarrassing but not actually dentrimental to the battle... probably.

Valeria was a tough nut that wouldn’t crack. The wild avian huffed through enflamed nostrils and narrowed its sharp gaze on the strange feline. It only wanted one thing in life, and having this strange trainer interrupt that with her furry friend was not part of that program. “Don’t you know how to scram and leave well enough alone?!” It snapped, soaring up into the air, before diving down and pecking Valeria with all its resolve on the head. It would snatch her long red ribbon in one beak and fly away to a nearby tree, placing it just out of reach. “I’ll keep this for myself! It will make a great wrapping around my nest.” Inferior creatures always acting like they could meddle into the affairs of others. What a joke! Spearow smirked and tucked the long ribbon around a makeshift and rather pathetic looking nest with a sense of pride as its chest swelled. Yes, this was how you made a nest. One of the finest in the land, it reckoned. Much better than the stupid humans and their useless nests that wouldn’t keep a single offspring from running wild in the streets of Cherrygrove. When it popped back down, ready to show Valeria another lesson, the kitty slammed into Spearow’s chest with all her might, managing to knock it down. Spearow gasped as its lungs burned. It felt like all the air in its lungs had been pushed back out and as though its heart nearly skipped a beat! “That hurt you little flea-bitten mongrel!” Spearow screeched, spinning back around wildly in preparation for its next attack. If Valeria wouldn’t take a hint then Spearow reckoned it would just have to make fast work of the feline so it couldn’t keep chasing after it! While Valeria had expected the Spearow to attack her back - that was just the next move in their little dance after all - she had certainly not expected it to do so with such force! Did it not understand how these performances worked? This was all ballet and facade, and sure there might be a little damage dealt here and there but not like this?! This was barbaric! This was feral and cruel and absolutely not what she had signed up for! As soon as the Spearow had made its attack, she had let out a distressed squeal and then immediately run back to Eden, mewling her displeasure at her trainer who only rolled her eyes at the display. "I tried to warn you," Eden replied, despite actually doing no such thing. They'd been dubious of the cat's methods, yes, but they hadn't verbalised that in anyway. They'd just left Valeria to figure it out for herself through a painful lesson like the one she'd just experienced. The only thing they hadn't accounted for with that though, was Valeria's complete resistance to going back into the fight. Thankfully, the Spearow had distracted itself with taking the ribbon to its nest - hardly a big loss when Eden carried hundreds of spares in their bag. It gave them enough time to try and urge Valeria back into the fight with everything from verbal encouragement to a nudge from their foot, but to no avail. After eventually letting out a defeated groan, they conceded and allowed Valeria to hide behind their legs as they pulled out a different Pokeball to replace her with. Volumnia the Glameow had always been the most aggressive of the trio. She was territorial, headstrong, and had often taken their scripted contest fights too seriously and caused too much damage in the process. If anyone could handle the shift from stage to battlefield, it was her. The second pink cat was sent out towards the Spearow then, and Eden had the forethought to actually guide her this time. "Real battle Vol, teach that Spearow a lesson." Still not a full command like a real trainer would give but it was an improvement at least. Volumnia took no time at all to find her target as the Spearow returned from where it had spun back around on Valeria's retreat, ready for whatever damage she might take for the hesitation her teammate had created. Once she had her opening though, she'd make the most of it being her first turn on the battlefield and launch a Fake Out of her own.

<Another little housepet come to annoy me?> the spearow cawed. <I'll take your ribbons too!> The spearow swooped down and pecked at the feisty glameow without hesitation. It cawed and flapped its wings aggressively, hoping to intimidate the feline and distract it from the searching of its sharp beak. Talons clawed at pink fur. It nipped and tugged and scratched, and just as it managed to start to unknot the ribbon...the Glameow retaliated with that sharp, calculated blow. The spearow was knocked to the ground, momentarily dazed. It twitched, unable to continue its assault upon them, the world spinning too fast. <I will...I will...> What was it doing? While the intimidation attempt would have worked wonders on Valeria (as past evidence had now shown), it only served to aggravate Volumnia. This cat was not playful but proud, a regal creature who did not suffer fools, and while she might not have been in a formal battle before, Eden had been right that she would not take this sort of behaviour lying down. As the Spearow launched its attack before she'd even really gotten settled, she let out a furious hiss at the creature, attempting to bat it away with paws before eventually realising what she needed to do. This was no play fight, no performance, no choreographed dance. This was war, and quite honestly even if Eden had wanted this to be something for a contest, this was beyond what Volumnia was willing to take. Her trainer's words were only further encouragement to a decision that she had already made then, meaning that when the Fake Out had landed, she wasted no time in launching her next attack. Her opening was clear, the Spearow obviously surprised by the speed of the first move, and so before it could recover and fly away out of reach, Volumnia's claws were out. She took a moment to aim, no wild batting this time as her prey was nice and still for her, and soon she was launching her self forwards at the bird who had made an enemy out of the wrong cat with a fierce Scratch attack primed just for it.

The world spun around the dazed Spearow, its vision swimming in a dizzying blur. The ground seemed to sway beneath it, threatening to swallow the tiring bird whole. With a feeble twitch, it attempted to gather its wits, to shake off the disorientation that clouded its senses. But as it struggled to regain its footing, a sharp sensation pierced through the haze, cutting through the fog of confusion like a blade. It was the Glameow, fierce and unyielding, a force to be reckoned with. The bird felt a surge of fear mingled with frustration, realizing too late the grave mistake it had made in underestimating its opponent. The Spearow's eyes narrowed with determination, a glint of defiance shining through despite the odds stacked against it. With a swift motion, it unleashed its Leer attack, a piercing gaze intended to weaken the resolve of its adversary. But even as the Glameow met its gaze head-on, the bird knew that this battle was far from over. As the Glameow surged forward with a fierce Scratch attack, the Spearow braced itself for the impact, its heart pounding with adrenaline-fueled anticipation. With a defiant squawk, it dodged the brunt of the assault, the claws grazing its feathers with a searing intensity. "Surprised a little bird could 'peck' such a punch, weren't you, kitty-cat?" Spearow jeered, its voice dripping with sarcasm. "Thought you were a queen but you're more like a scaredy-cat who needs a human to hold her paw!" Her claws made contact, even if not quite as directly as she might have first hoped, but Volumnia found herself feeling smug all the same. Despite the minimal communication from her trainer and the fast-paced nature of the situation she had been thrown into, it had not escaped her notice that this was not her usual occupation. When Eden had released her in the past, it had always been for performance and never for battle. When those performances had been staged competitions using moves against the opponent, it had been about as close to this as a sword fight in a play was to a real world war. It was clear that thsi was different, and the fact that she was succeeding (at least from her own perspective of events) had her feeling surprisingly proud. See, mother? Her skills really were endless. When the Spearow released its Leer towards her, she braced in position for a moment, unsure what such a gesture meant in a battle like this. It was often used to intimidate in a contest, to try and cause your opponent to hesitate, to wobble, to lose their perfect poise. Was it the same here? A misstep could be problematic when launching an attack, sure, but not as much as it had been on stage when everyone was watching. Was she missing something here then? No time to dwell though, as she doubted her opponent would wait for her if she took too long to make a move. Her claws had worked well a moment ago, so as the Spearow's jeers stung in her ears, she let out an aggravated hiss and rushed forwards, claws out once more to throw another Scratch in the bird's general direction.

Spearow was on its last leg, that was clear but the species was proud and stubborn, it would continue until it couldn't raise a toe! This determination was one of the major reasons why the birds were feared, and why some trainers bothered the hassle of training them as they were often not very easy to handle. You shouldn't underestimate one, just as Volumnia was just about to figure out. The pretty and proud cat raced forward and leaped with her claws out, ready to finish this and show that there really was no limit to her skills. Too late she saw the moving wing out in the corner of her eye, and the spearow whacked her on the side of her head. While leering often was about throwing your opponent off in contests, in a real battle like this, it often made the target reckless and not as careful, thus getting hit harder. Volumnia felt like she got hit by a truck and went out black instantly and flumped to the ground. Spearow stared at her flabbergasted for a moment, but then realized that it had won and it spread its wings in victory. It jumped up on the fainted cat, and still with its wing spread wide it cawed out its victory, telling the whole world how great it was. From the rooftops, where the rest of the spearow flock had settled to watch, came the cheering cawing answer. "Oh no! No no, this is not good at all!" The lady in the booth stammered and looked worried at Eden, "are you sure you're up to it? Despite what the Spearow might have wanted to do, Eden was not about to leave their fainted Pokemon out of it's Pokeball to be danced on like some sort of trophy. They returned Volumnia the very moment she began to sway and she was safely away before she'd even hit the ground, giving the Spearow no opportunity for its grotesque display. It would have to imagine it instead. Eden shot a glare towards the rude old woman now doubting their abilities. Honestly, they'd forgotten she was there for the moment, too focused on this impromptu little training session, but the sudden disparaging comments had drawn Eden's attention straight back to her. "Shut up," they snapped back at her, sneering unpleasantly at the woman who had so painfully little faith in them. They had a team of six on them after all, and the kitties they had been training here were doing exactly that - training. If they wanted to make this quick, their Sentret had been a decent fighter so far, but that wasn't the point of this. They wanted to see their contest partners in action, and that had very little to do with the old woman. "Why are you even still here? Go home!" She'd sold her stock, hadn't she? Eden wasn't planning on taking down all of the Spearow, just this one, so if the lady feared being attacked, why was she still lingering? She should leave while her enemies were distracted. In the meantime, Eden had to send someone else out to deal with this Spearow. They glanced down at Valeria still cowering behind their legs - she knew Fake Out which might help her get a shot in before the Spearow could react, but she did not look to be in the mood to jump back into the fight yet. That was fine: there was one last contest star to get the spotlight after all. A third Pokeball was brought out, and a Purrloin was sent into the fray, Virgilia landing daintily in front of the Spearow. No patience left to explain the situation, Eden went straight for a command with, "Scratch it Virgilia." Unaware that this was a battle and not a contest, the Purrloin's moves were more graceful than threatening as she sprang towards the weakened bird, Eden quickly adding, "Go for a knock out," just to make it extra clear that she shouldn't pull her punch here.

The lady who worked at the booth couldn’t believe her ears. This young woman clearly snapped at her and told her to scram. She stared in bewilderment, placing one hand on her chest whilst clutching at the soft cottony fabric of her shirt and gasped. “I was simply trying to make sure you could handle yourself!” She snapped, eyes narrowing in frustration, and gathered what bit of her belongings she could to mosey on home as quickly as she could. “I really hope that Spearow pecks the bejeezus out of you like it tried to do to me. Maybe it’ll teach you how to respect your elders more!” She snapped firmly, walking down the street in a hurry. Spearow was far from finished with Eden and her collection of cats. Let Eden release an army of furry felines for all it cared! It flapped its wings proudly and puffed up its chest feathers as Eden recalled her furry feline to its Poke Ball. Even if the table it wanted to dance upon and boast about its skills had disappeared, that didn’t stop the wild bird from strutting its stuff. As soon as Virgilia appeared in a burst of red light, the Spearow hopped up and hovered in the air over it with a loud scoff. “Your friend couldn’t best me! What makes you think you can?!” It laughed haughtily. Spearow growled Virgilia chased after it. The bright pink cat with pointed ears leaped several times into the air, though Spearow would swoop just out of the way. “Look at you!” The wild avian growled with a shake of its feathery head. “Pathetic! Just like your friend!” The other Spearow laughed with their friend from the rooftops nearby. Though Virgilia managed to jump high enough to slam her head into Spearow’s chest, knocking it down to the ground. She then mangled the bird’s once beautiful pink wings with her claws, ripping at them as she scratched the wild avian mercilessly. “Ack! Ouch! Help!” It cawed before fainting. SUCCESS!
