Name: Ace D. Kirkpatrick.
Age: 18
Gender:Male
Trainer Type: Trainer.
Hometown: Azalea Town
Appearance: :Clocking in at about 6'1, Ace is a muscular boy, about 140 lbs and a face that's always grinning or showing some sign of happiness with freckles peppered on it, which he hates because he finds them childish. A head of jet black hair, always messy and always short, with brown eyes that he has been told gives him a brotherly look, whatever the hell that means. Ace has a penchant for wearing button ups with the buttons undone if he decides to wear anything over his upper body at all except when weather mandates or when exploring a town(He has found that people outside of Pokemon trainers are a little unnerved by a shirtless boy. For whatever reason.) out and about he is usually shirtless.
He has two prefered outfits to wear. The first starts with black boots, black knee-length shorts with an eyelet-studded orange belt, and a blue pouch belted around his left leg. A short second belt with a large red "A" on the silver buckle over his right hip, left unfastened and threaded the free end along the back of his shorts. the other variation is simply the same thing only everything orange is black etc. He has a dagger in a green sheath hung at his left hip, primarily for show, but used in dire situations. On Ace's left arm, he has his Pokgear and a red and white striped bracelet around his wrist, An orange elbow guard, and his "ASCE" tattoo on his right. The second outfit consist of the same only the shorts and boots end up orange. His tattoo was created to commerate the death of an old friend, though he likes to pretend it's a mistake on the artist's part, simply because he likes to give the guy grief. The S crossed out on it as proof to his case.
The one thing on Ace that doesn't change regardless of anything is his red beaded necklace and an orange hat with two blue smileys, one frowning and one smiling, and a string of red beads sitting above the rim. Two long orange side straps hung down sides of his hat and met at a large medallion of a bull's skull with orange tassels. This he will state is his trademark and replacing them will simply make him look out of place.
He carries a larger bag then most, because he uses it to house his change of clothes in it instead of just pokeballs and things he might of picked up on the way. He likes to wear a various amount of trinkets and accesories. The accessories generally range from average to outlandish.
Personality: Ace is your typical good guy, nice, sweet and always trying to be helpful when he can. Ace is a calm sort, and he likes to think of himself as the big brother type. The guy a person can turn to with their problems. If he is, he doesn't really know, but he does seem to have alot of people come to him with their problems.. So he must be doing something right.
He's a very festive guy, he likes to kick up a party whenever he can. Sometimes this can bite him in the rear, because he starts a party when the time doesn't account for it. He made a promise to live a life without regret, so he's living it up as best he can for the short time he's got on the place.
Despite his normal calm, he is one who can be easily enraged with just the right subject, he tends to go into fits easily about his father, his mother and generally just the people whom he loves in general in a bad light is enough to set him off and get him fighting. When in his enraged moments he will not back down for anything, even at the qualms of his friends and/or family. Tending to make people think he has a death wish, he simply doesn't like looking weak in front of his loved ones. Even if that means being pounded into dust. If he keeps looking strong to them it makes up for it. This rage has weathered down after the years.
He's prideful to a fault. Where he cannot back down and let things die down, say he's a part of a bigger group and someone shifts the group, he'll take it upon himself to get him back, regardless of if everyone else is okay with it.
Ace is a bit of a thrill seeker, thus his love for adventure, he likes to throw himself into many things. Seeing a thief he'd fling himself towards anything he assumes might be sorta thrilling to be a part of, a raid, a party. Even painting a fence if you can convince him it's rewarding enough. Which leads into his abilities as a scavenger, though he's not proud of it, he's a pretty good thief and can pilfer a good or two. If he can't find something that means he'll simply have to scavenge.
Ace has a thirst for knowledge as well as for adventure, which makes he read every piece a literature he can in the cities he's visited, eventually he wants to open a library when his time as a trainer comes to an end. A great retirement in his mind. This trait also leads into a love for reading and learning new things. Thus why he can be spotted around libraries and trainer school more times than not.
Ace is a natural born fighter, quick on his feet and to the draw, and it translate into his battling. He is surprisingly tactical and clear-headed. Though his need for fight sometime takes higher seating to his logic and he fights when he shouldn't. He thinks of bruises and cut and things of that degree as trophies of his escapades. A bonk the the side of the head will easy knock him back into his senses.
Ace is a fiercely protective boy, keeping people out of his troubles and always attempting to keep trouble away from others. He hates it when others try to butt into problems not theirs and has even resorted to insulting and belittling the offender simply to get them out before they get too deep into it.
He has almost an unnatural hatred for Rockets, seemed from an early age he was shifted by them, and it has only grown since.
History: Ace's father, a notoriously ax crazy Rocket from their hay day was jailed and sentenced to life, while Ace's mother, Rouge, was still pregnant with Ace. 9 months after the verdict on January 1st, Ace was born in Twin-leaf Town. His mother only lived long enough to name him, before the strain of birth killed him dead. Ace was relocated to his grandparents and was raised in Olivine City. As of today Ace does not remember a time where his heritage didn't play a part in his life, always being down talked, avoided and glared at Ace learned early on that nobody would do him any favors.
Instantly taking a disliking to the world outside of his family, Ace took to savage beatings and harsh words as his solution to the problem he liked to call "those asinine jerks." His grandparents didn't know what to do with him, he simply refused to turn the other cheek and all attempts to pacify him simply lead to a stronger backlash when they were no longer around to halt his rage. With no option left, they shipped them off to a friend of their daughter's, a shady manly old croon by the name of Alex. She was a rough old lady, running the Pokemon training center that stood where the Well is today. She was a tough old gal and her personality a mirror of Ace's and they constantly butt heads over his violent reaction to his heritage. Their arguments often times came to blows to which she would always win. He eventually came an understanding, he'd try to mind his anger.. And she'd not beat his breaks off, and leave him to his vices. Olivine was a dumb place to hang out at anyways and he'd just as easily find fun elsewhere then there.
Ace had taken to Ilex Forest, rather than the "civil" people of Azalea, it was there he learned his knack at pilfering and survival. Fighting anything that came upon. Wild Carnivine and the occasional Golduck. Sometimes even a murder of Murkrow that had taken a liking to the area and him, which he affectionately called the Ant Hill Mob after a TV show he watched a long time ago. They took to ambushing and diverting Trainers and stealing their bounties. It was somewhere at this time that he had met Sammy, his first friend. They had their sights set on the same trainer a bug catcher named Chester. The boys attacked at the same time and attempted to steal the same object, his picnic basket. It came as no surprise that the two didn't like each other at the instant their eyes met. An argument and a small scuffle ensued. Needless to say, Ace was beaten, but not after giving a hard fight.
In his defeat he had gained something he probably wouldn't of if he hadn't lost, respect from Sammy. He didn't have much of a choice as he was dragged off to Sammy lair inside the forest deep in the trees and roughage that surrounded the path. There he was given an ultimatum, join him and be his 'brother' or have his ass handed to him repeatedly. No brainer, he chose to do so. It wasn't that bad, stealing from trainers, fighting whatever wild Pokemon decided to confront them and just generally causing a ruckus, that tended to spill into Goldenrod or Azalea(Mostly Azalea the boys agreed that the people there deserved as much for being the horrendous bastards they were.) Only going home to the training center when he needed better food or refuge. Alex let him come and go as he pleased, she really didn't want to struggle with him to keep him there and he seemed genuinely happy out and about rather than stuffed in there forced to do trainer work. He abhorred it, and he was particularly fond of only a select few Pokemon.
Ace just never found the appeal of being a trainer, always out and about running through the grass and doing stupid stuff like fighting and such, it was through Sammy's interest in becoming a trainer that he realized he did most of that anyways, and the true merit of being a Pokemon trainer. The way Sabo painted it it sounded so glamour and free and just awesome in general, a stark contrast from the way Alex made it sound.. Like a business, like there was no fun in it and that the Pokemon took every instance they could to make sure you don't live to see your next birthday.. "Pfft. She's a ***** anyways." Sammy used to dismiss his argument. After chortle they both agreed to begin careers as Pokemon trainers. What better way to see who was better than to become trainers and see it first hand. So instead of fighting Pokemon, the two took to training them and care taking for them. Needless to say it started off rough for as, Sammy had a much gentler touch. Admittedly Ace was a lot rougher as a little guy than he is now, and constantly tried to force the Pokemon into obedience, needless to say the Pokemon of Ilex Forest did not take kindly to force. He was bitten, paralyzed and tackled enough for an 6 mon team of Pokemon.
Ace didn't take too kindly to it himself and he was the first to attack the Pokemon back when he could, Sammy had already trained a few Pokemon and didn't really hesitate to rub it into his face, which pissed Ace off to no end, and he called him out a cheater and in turn pissed Sammy off. A fight ensued, but this time it was different, it didn't restore calm like it usually did. It simply caused the fight to escalate into something worse and Ace took the fast track outta Ilex forest. Ace sulked back to Alex's. That's when he got the news that Rockets were skulking about in the area.
Obvious to say that Ace was scared, yet his interest piqued by the people who had employed his father. So he was off without much hesitation. Despite warnings not to. What's the worse they could do? Attack him with their Zubats? He knew not of a whole another side of the Rockets. The affects were easy to spot the minute he stepped outside, even the normal night time lurkers of Azalea Town had taken refuge inside, it was.. Weird.. Complete silence, nothing was going on, even the lights were out. Everything that could bring attention to the citizens was snuffed out in a desperate bit to avoid the fate of the people they heard about on the news that the Rockets had gotten to.
Even the forest itself seemed dead. The trainers that usually crept about waiting for Pokemon to appear were nowhere in sight, and the Pokemon themselves seemed to be hiding. The eerie calm of it all didn't sit well with him and he made haste to find Sammy to warn him of the approaching danger. Even if he was still mad at the jerk he couldn't just let him get his ass handed to him by some Zubat and Rattata, that's not something you'd let a guy do. Using the shortcut to the tree-house he and Sammy had made just two days ago, a sense of foreboding overwhelmed him at the stomped path of brush leading towards the path. With a little more urgency in his step he came upon Sammy's tree house.
Which was relatively intact, he had worried himself sick for nothing, a forehead smacker. What a waste of his worry, if anyone knew trouble was coming it was Sammy. Ace brushed it off before he heard a familiar voice call out, Sammy..? He took off immediately to where he heard it from, and there he found.. Sammy face down, in a pool of his own blood. Turning him over for closer inspection, the bullet wound was immediately noticeable. The boy could barely talk and it was obvious no matter how much haste was made, he would not leave that forest alive. He did manage to tell Ace to keep his promise to become a great trainer, and that he was sorry that he'd broken his promise, and that he'd have to be good and join him upstairs one day so they can talk about when he eventually becomes a champion. With that Sammy took his last breath of air and passed on.
Ace had no time for anything, no fear, no sadness, because everything gave way to blinding rage, he was sure he could see red, whatever he saw he only knew that he had started running, and had come upon a pair of black-clad bastards in no time. His voice had no merit to his rage so he released a growl to garner their attention. They had barely that enough time to see the boy upon them in a rage, he managed to get a punch and a well placed kick to the groin, before the obvious took over. Grown men vs 10 year old boy, ten year old would not hold his own for long. They beat him viciously, but no matter what the boy always found a way to stand back up. He was readily prepared to receive whatever they gave him, They had taken his only friend, and now that the rage had subdued in him, he simply was an empty shell without resolve. There was no point in putting up a fight anymore.
It was through timely intervention from Alex and her employees that he was spared a beating. He took off out of the woods and towards where-ever he could looking up at what he thought was hours of running he came upon his grandparents house. It was there he found his grandpa, to whom he spilled everything to. All of it, and then at the end a wish to invert to himself from the world. He wanted to curl up into a ball and wait to die, the world had become too harsh of a place for him to face any longer.
He was offered advice, thinks about his decision and what would Sammy say, what would his mother think of him giving up before his life truly started? If he could say that he could do it without any negative backlash then go for it, but if not..
Ace was conflicted, what dumb advice. What would his best friend say, what would a woman he never knew think? What was the point..? But could he really say that they were wrong? He knew that if he gave up whilst Sammy was still around a through kick in the seat would be given and he would be informed that he was a crybaby, and for some reason he couldn't bring himself to disappoint his mother. Even if he had never met her and only knew what she looked like through old photos taken years beforehand. He had to admit, he didn't want to face her come afterlife saying he squandered his life. So what was he to do...
8 years later, Ace had made his final preparations to get going to New Bark Town, he knew he'd have to come through this place, Azalea Town and Ilex Forest one day, probably sometime soon, but was something for another day. Today he had to get ready he was off towards New Bark Town. Saying goodbye to his grandparents, he made a stop at Alex's, her school long gone, like most of the residents of the town. With a simple thanks for everything he was off.
Pausing at Sammy's cross that stood barely in the outskirts of town. Reiterating the promise he swore to, to become the champ no matter what was thrown his way. With his resolve re-enforced he made his way out of town and towards New Bark Town, with promise of glory and more encounters with the people his father worked under.
Goals: Champion or Bust. It's that simple.
He'd also like to have a nice little sit down with Blaine if he could.
Other Info: He wants to eventually visit his father, to see if he was as bad as people had impressed upon him.. From what he was told of his mother, there was no way she would fall for somebody as evil as described. He has a notable sweet-tooth and can be seen with candy in his mouth, and it can be used as a bartering chip for information from him. He's particularly fond of the idea of fighting Bugsy, he remembered watching him grow up and is tickled pink at the concept of a leader who's a good friend and younger to him. He has a penchant for fire Pokemon.
