Taking refuge from Forest Shrine As they had quickened up their pace from exiting the insidious forest shrine, Tobias' first course of action in the next zone of the forest was to double over and pant heavily. The nefarious chills that he was experiencing along with the accursed feel of the forest was starting to get to him. It was only when he started heavily breathing to try and regain his calm that he noticed that there was something off with this part of the forest. Inhaling again, there were no doubt the air in this section of the woods was filled with intense spores. Taking out a napkin from his pocket, he stood up and covered it over his mouth as he then began to breath again. Finally taking in the scenery of this forest bank, he realised just how odd it was. Before, all they had come across was gigantic trees and dense thickets. Here, the place was littered with thousands of mushrooms of a variety of biota. The decomposing leaves and strange humidity of the forest was bizarre to say the least. " Master, we must press on. The forest is warped and twisted to try and get travellers to suspend their progress. If we remain here, those afflicted by the curse will catch up with us." Charon's words being mentally imprinted into Tobias' mind, he nodded in agreement. There was no way he was going to experience that horrible feel of dread he had done back in the shrine. Concentrating carefully, the Duskull appeared to attune itself to the spirits of the forest once more. His single red eye moving to the direction of where they needed to go, Charon found a path that was stretching off to a southerly direction. " Our next stop is to the south, come master, let us progress." Heading off in unison, they headed to their next checkpoint with a determined pace in their step.

Coming from the Forest Shrine. As Marchbaby and his team entered the next area they were quite relieved to be finished with the nightmare they had all been through. Kamikaze was as proud as ever after defeating an entire army by herself with only a handful of healing items having to be used. She had gained quite a few levels during the battles and had nearly caught up with Shocker in level despite being on Marchbaby's team for a considerable amount of time less then the magnet Pokemon that she was quite fond of. As they left the now peaceful shrine they followed one of the many paths the led away as the hunt for the other side of the forest began. From the amount of time it took to travel through the other parts of the forest Marchbbaby was not expecting to find the exit anytime soon. As the next part of the forest came into view Marchbaby and his Pokemon could see a grove filled with mushrooms of all shapes and sizes. As hungry as the group was after the long quest they had just completed none of them dared to eat any of the mushrooms as for all they knew the mushrooms could be a trap left by the evil spirits as a post death revenge scheme of some kind and just the potential in that as a possibility. They were pretty to look at however and as the group passed by them they could see Pokemon in the distance leaving their dens to enjoy the nice day now that the evil cloud created by Gengar had dispersed and the never ending night caused by the evil spirits could finally end allowing the sun to finally rise again. Marchbaby and the group did not want to waste too much time in the area as it was clear to him that this was not the forest exit but the path they were on seemed to lead to yet another part of the maze like forest. With how deep in the forest they were already there was no way they were going to turn around now. Although it seemed like there was still a very long way to go the group had been through too much trouble lately to turn around and leave especially since the only easy way to get to Goldenrod City was to somehow make it through the forest as tired as Marchbaby and the others were by now. With the goal of Goldenrod City forefront in her mind, Catherine waltzed onward with a large grin on her face. "That was probably the first time I was able to help a wild Pokemon out here in Johto! I sure hope they heal nicely! Maybe we can come back on check on them at some point!" Referring to the injured Bouffalant she had just helped, Catherine was blissfully unaware that the duo had in fact been following them. As they reached a drop, Catherine and her Pokemon hopped down with ease but a few paces behind her, the Bouffalant had much more trouble. Crying out loudly in hopes of getting her attention, the bull was successful and with a slight turn, her emerald eyes caught glimpse of them both, the Eevee hiding back in the bushy afro.
"Huh?! Bouffalant?! Is that you?!" Noticing it was indeed her bandaging, Catherine quickly hopped back up the path and placed a supportive hand on the head of the wild Pokemon. "What is wrong? Did we forget something? Huh?" Noticing that the bull was nudging it's head into Catherine's hands and the Eevee's eyes were staring expectantly, she didn't quite understand at first but welcomed their company regardless. "You wanna come through the forest with us? Well okay but watch your step!" Slowly and carefully, Catherine helped the Bouffalant step down the uneven ground before passing through the mushroom scattered area.

-coming from Forest Shrine-After leaving the previous part of the forest where it's got this weird spiritual structure, Ethan found himself walking around a forested area filled with mushrooms. Mushrooms on the ground, on trees, around mosses, and basically everywhere. He was trying his best not to step on them, but he probably did stepped on some of them on his haste to Goldenrod City. He hoped that no one would be angry at him. -going to Conifer Crest-

-coming from fores shrine-It was a small size Pokemon, blue eyes, tiny wings, and can heal Pokemon. Alex thought to himself as he try to remember, his eyes closing half the time to redrew the memory, and opening the other half the time so that he won't bump into trees. He paced himself as quickly as he could, and found himself in an area filled with mushrooms. He looked around and tried to find a path that people may have previously walked on, perhaps like footprints, that he could follow. He find some very faint footprints on the muddy ground, and followed that way to the exit. It was a risk, but sometimes he did found a few more overlapping footprints so it looked like the one. -going to Conifer Crest-

Mushroom bank to Conifer Crest!
| | Coming in from Forest ShrineOne more step closer to Goldenrod. One more step closer to Goldenrod. With each hoof clop, now steadied and calm as the distance between the shrine increased, Rhoan kept repeating it over and over in her head. The monotonous views seemed to melt before her in the evening heat and she wished for anything to break up the boredom. She almost preferred the unease and fear she'd felt because at least it was something new. The adrenaline had been roaring in her ears and her skin stood on end. That would've probably made the trip go a LOT faster. Granted, she wasn't sure Ares was going to be able to deal with all that. Even though his pace had calmed, occasionally his tails would whip with unease as he turned to try and look over his shoulder. "Hey, it's alright Ares. The scariest thing in this forest is you, don't worry." Rhoan reassured him with a pat. Tyrana spat off to the side, obviously not amused with the Tauros. Rhoan wasn't sure what was up with the fire Pokemon, but she wasn't about to bother her about it in a highly combustible forest. Goldenrod held many answers for both Team Rocket shenanigans as well as dealing with her Pokemon. Or perhaps whatever was at that shrine was bothering Tyrana too, but over a longer scale? Rhoan couldn't even pretend to know. Ares was walking but managed to get his knee stuck within a large mushroom. The fungus oozed up at his knee and created a powerful suction to keep the creature at bay. Tyrana had almost torched the mushroom but remembered that Ares's legs were both useful to get through Ilex but also out of missions (case and point Cherrygrove) so she proceeded to NOT do that. Instead, Rhoan had to slide off and cut at the mushroom until Ares's knee was exposed once more and stripped away of any mushroom residue. "You sure found a tall one, didn't you? I'm surprised half of these aren't Pokemon at the rate they're popping up like dasies." Rhoan grunted, curious if she'd just skewered a Pokemon from Ares's leg. When the mushroom was silent, Rhoan shrugged and hopped back up onto her bull to proceed forward. One step closer to Goldenrod, right? If she followed that saying EVENTUALLY they'd make it, rain or shine. Day or night. At this rate though, definitely night. Departing to Conifer Crest |

Damien quickly left the sight of the forest shrine, finally feeling like he could breath easy again. What was up with that? Of course he'd heard the stories of evil spirits and lost souls wandering around at night but it was still morning. Not only that but along with all those spooky stories to tell kids, there was also the well known myths about celebi and that shrine. The state of the shrine, he was sure, wasn't just in his head. He wasn't just overreacting to being lost in the woods or uncomfortable in unknown territory. This was real. [break] [break]
His young treecko was also bothered, but he couldn't tell if it was just a response to his own reaction to the shrine or if she had also noticed something weighing on the shrine. "Maybe you should return to your pokéball for now Jade. It's okay now, and you could probably use a break." He gave her a soft smile as he removed her ball from his belt. She looked up at him with those big yellow eyes and gave a light nod. In a flash of light she disappeared to relax inside the device, leaving Damien alone in his new surroundings. [break] [break]
It seemed he had wandered into a dank haven. The trees above were thick, but plenty of light still bounced around the canopies to give a clear path around the area -- just it wasn't all that bright. All of the darkest parts were flooded with all kinds of mushrooms. Various shapes and sizes, colors of red and brown with dots of yellow and white scattered about. He hadn't ever seen anything like it. It was like a flower bed but with mushrooms. Seeing the bright assortment amidst the healthy green surroundings brought a real smile to his face; relaxing his nerves a bit. Damien sighed. The worried thoughts set to the back of his mind for now. He'd deal with those later. [break] [break]
The young lad started to make his way around the mushroom patches looking for a way out that wasn't back the way of the shrine. There were a couple paths he noted but it would be figuring out how to get to them without trampling through the mushrooms... ... Or maybe he could just try to step carefully and take a shortcut..? With his nerves a bit shot from moments before he was willing to cut through the mushrooms to get a bit more distance from that area.

This Mushroom Bank was, in a word, wet. The very air felt like it could put out any fire attacks in an instant, it was so humid. The ground squelched with every step Damien took, and there was a weak yet rather unpleasant smell in the air. The forest floor was now littered with fungi of every kind, making it a little hard to know where to step next if one wasn't particularly careful. Even the wildlife itself was fungal. The local Pokémon all hid from sight as best they could, staying amongst their mushroomoid brethren to keep hidden. They had noticed an intrusion, and they weren't particularly keen on getting caught today. And caught they wouldn't be, as Damien soon stubbed his toe on something quite large amongst the fungi. Looking down, he'd see a large mushroom. Bigger than all the others. One could say it was a "Big Mushroom". But that would be a rather stupid name to give an item.
Damien found a Big Mushroom! Lamont may now complain if Damien finds a second item here before leaving. (I am sorry, but this was the best I could do without sleeping on it... it's surprisingly hard to write without any personalities to talk about.)

He'd expected his choice of path wouldn't exactly be the easiest way to progress but... the slick terrain surpassed even his own expectations. More than once the lad found himself off balance whether by a surprisingly slippery step or a hole that he wasn't expecting his foot to sink into. But he hadn't fallen yet thanks to the abundance of slim trees to catch himself on. Damien almost contemplated getting a walking stick to help traverse through the mushroom field. However, while he was thinking this thought his foot caught on something. [break] [break]
The abrupt catch of a thick healthy cap mixed with the already oily terrain sent a the boy toppling forward with a yelp. His arms reached out to wrap around a tree trunk but alas, it was just slightly too far this time. Down he went. The greasy smoosh of all manner of rubbery shrooms padded his decent but it wasn't exactly saving grace. The ranger's nose wrinkled at the odd moldly smell, bringing his bandana up to cover his nose rather quickly in case there were spores he needed to worry about. The boy twisted and looked at what tank of a mushroom he'd been caught on and by golly it was huge! [break] [break]
Damien got himself into a crouch to stare at the partially uprooted mushroom, quite impressed with its size. He wondered... perhaps was this one of those big mushrooms he'd heard about? Never before had he been so deep in Ilex but he remembered growing up there was the odd traveler that would rant about their value. [break] [break]
His hand reached to his pack, sliding open a compartment and withdrawing an old small cloth. He took the fabric and wrapped it round the stalk to finish pulling the thing up. The thing likely wouldn't continue doing so well now that it had been half drudged up from the ground anyway, so he might as well get some use of it. The growing trainer secured the big mushroom and added it safely to his backpack. Not as much could be said of the path he'd just fallen on though.

Damien continued through the Mushroom Bank, his new money item carefully packed away into his bag. The smell from earlier continued to linger in the area, however it perhaps wouldn't last long if the weather had anything to say about it. The humid air had been growing hotter and hotter recently, and it was only a matter of time before this had some sort of consequence. As the young ranger ploughed on ahead, a crash of thunder echoed above his head. The rumbling noise was quickly followed by the heavens opening up, a torrential downpour starting up almost instantaneously. The rain soon left the ground even more sodden than it had been, making the terrain almost hazardous with how muddy it was becoming. Up in the air, the thunder continued to roar, occasionally accompanied by a flash of lightning. If one payed close attention, it would be possible to make out what sounded like cries of shock from nearby wild Pokémon. They were doing their best to stay hidden from the human that had stepped foot in their neck of the woods, but it was becoming quite difficult to keep to the shadows. With one more flare of lightning, a particularly spooked Shroomish had had enough. It left the comfort of its tree shelter, running around in a blind panic. Its friends watched in distress, unsure of what to do about this new development. The worried little Grass type failed to look where it was going at all. Suddenly, the wildlife started to call out to it to warn it of danger ahead. Shroomish wasn't looking, however, and promptly bumped into something fairly sturdy. Slightly hairy too. The mushroom Pokémon took one look upward and shrieked as it saw Damien's form in front of it. The Ranger would easily have felt something hitting the back of his right leg, and now Shroomish was in a rather unfortunate position.

The ranger breathed a sigh of relief. Tardar still flat on the ground staring upward, the uncomfortable jostles making her limbs twitch at irregular intervals. She didn't seem to really care though. Her attention was absorbed into watching the drip from the trees above, occasional licks of light reaching through the maze of leaves making for interesting contrasting patterns. [break][break]
Damien walked over and picked up the still pokéball, Booker following behind with a similar paralysis problem. He knelt down and gave the pup a good run through his wet fur. "Good job boy. Now, how about we get both of you out of here and to a centre for some well earned rest?" The herdier yipped then grumbled. "It's fine, I'm sure I'm close to the exit by now." After a skeptical shake of the hound's whiskers Damien chuckled and recalled both of his pokémon. The newly acquired shroomish was already sent away to his PC box so now he just needed to finish traversing the mushroom haven and manage his way through the rest of the wood to get to Goldenrod. [break][break]
Standing, the young lad took a second to brush himself off. He was really starting to look disheveled with how many times he'd fallen or brushed against bush and tree. The rain surprisingly didn't help, instead seeming to soak all the dirt and grime right into the fabric of his jacket and pants as an unmovable mud. Oh well. He never was one to truly care about his attire beyond being decent and somewhat presentable. Surely he wasn't the only one that trekked this fearsome wood and come out covered in it. [break][break]
With another sigh he went back to moving, flicking his flashlight on and finding his way back off of his little shortcut through the shroom field. Now it was just a matter of trying to find his way back into the lighter side of the forest.

OOC: Coming from the Forest Shrine, heading to Fern Pass.
IC:
As Tyler and his Pokemon made their way from the forest shrine they found themselves surrounded by the mushrooms of the Mushroom Grove. Unlike the Putrid Swamp this place was far more bearable to him as they looked at all the weird looking mushrooms around them. Tyler thought about picking some to have them analyzed at headquarters to see if they would be of any use but as he was not a scoentist he did not feel it would be worth his effort. Even so it was a much more bearable sight then the other areas of the forest so far. As they looked around Höllenhund fired a small ember at some of the mushrooms to see what would happen out of curiosity. The crunching sound they made as they fried was quite intriguing to the hellhound.
Mania on the other hand was just very pleased to be away from the shrine and the spirits that slowed them down for so long. The leader was even a pushover which was a disappointment given all her effort though she did grow stronger from all of the spirits shebhad bested so it had not been a total waste and they have saved a Chikorita so she was glad it had all ended on a positive note. Even as she tried tonforget about the huge undertaking they had been through she could not help but to think about what the forest guardian had said to Tyler before it disappeared. Ifnit knew what was in his heart it would never have even suggested that he could be redeemed. Mania was loyal to him but she would never forget just how cruel Tyler could be at heart. She hoped the guardian would not make a mistake of trusting Tyler too much if they crossed paths again.
Tyler could sense something was up with Mania as she just seemed a bit off. " Maniabdo you mind telling me what is up? Ever since we left the shrine you have been off." She knew if she told the truth she would get whipped in no time at all so to save face she quickly tried to think of something. " Oh just seeing that strange Pokemon at the end. It had a very strong aura. I really wish I knew what kind of Pokemon it was." As she stopped to take a breath another sign came into view. This one could hardly be read but it was legiable enough to know that the next path to follow would lead them to the Fern Pass.

Coming from the shrine Ororo continued her seemingly long lasting journey through the forest with her slippery water babes. Polipop, as usual, lead her toward the openings in the forest, where one section met the next. The current site was littered with mushrooms. The fungus spread from the grassy lawn all the way up the trees. Everywhere Ororo looked, there was a mushroom. “Hmm… looks like this portion of the forest is perfect for mushrooms to grow. They’re everywhere.” Ororo said. Polipop didn’t seem to care though, he continued to hurry along the path to get Ororo to her destination as fast as possible, as was his mission.
The sky started getting darker, the sun was beginning to set and the winter cold nipped Ororo on her nose. Polipop was not bother by this cold, Ororo was puzzled by this. Wouldn’t water Pokemon hate the ice? They’d freeze, right? It was Ororo’s theory that water Pokemon had adapted to all sorts of cold waters, explaining their resistance toward the ice typing. With a shiver, Ororo continued to walk the path without stopping to investigate the shroom-filled area. There was no time for exploration or a Pokemon battle with night fast approaching. Leaves of varying shades of brown, red and yellow were scattered across the ground. They crunched under Andrew and Yael's feet as they ventured deeper into the forest. The fog remained strong but nevertheless the colours surrounding them were strong and vibrant. Andrew had never seen so many mushrooms in one place before. Again, this seemed like it could be the work of a Pokémon, or even multiple.
He didn't doubt for a second that if he stayed around for long enough, he'd come across a Paras or maybe even Parasect. The two Pokémon, both part of the same evolutionary chain, were native to his home region. Taking that into consideration, he wasn't too concerned about waiting for one. Besides, with his view clouded, it almost took the fun out of exploring.
"Looks like we're pretty deep inside this forest. Hopefully we're not lost," he joked. Yael still wasn't able to take things so lightheartedly. 'As long as we're away from that horrible shrine, I don't care where we end up!' she replied, shuddering at the thought. The crunching of decaying leaves began to lessen gradually as they moved on towards the next area.

--Entering from Forest Shrine-- The mist stayed and swirled around the trees but the uneasiness disappeared slowly again, and now Astrid had felt it up close she wondered about it too. "Phew, that was strange, do you think it was haunted?" Hector asked with a nervous laugh and Astrid couldn't do anything but shrug. "I do not know, perhaps it was just the look and the atmosphere, or perhaps a pokemon tried to trick us," Astrid teased in an attempt to loosen up and get her companions to relax. "If there was a ghost, pokemon or not, it would be really good to have a dark type to handle it!" Hector said eagerly and Astrid could guess where he was going. "It is good I'm planning on getting one, then I might return and figure out what is going on there!" He continued proudly and looked excitedly at his eevee who was bounding around, staying in the light and pouncing leaves which she then shredded. Something moved in the treetop and the eevee raced to hide behind Lykke. "She really likes your quilava," Hector said and then looked thoughtful, "I need to work on getting her to trust me," he said determined and walked forward and tried to get her attention but without any luck. The eevee trotted curious forward to investigate something bright red and Hector followed. "What have you found?" He asked his eevee kindly and Astrid thought he knew what he was doing but the normal type just made it hard for him. "That's a mushroom, but I don't think that one is edible," he continued and the eevee dismissed to trot off. Hector didn't seem discouraged but looked around as he followed. "Oh Astrid! This place is full of mushrooms! All kinds of them!" he exclaimed and he was certainly right. The eevee had begun to paw around another batch of mushrooms, careful to avoid the small piles of rotting leaves that lay everywhere. Astrid thought to herself that she certainly wasn't a forest creature. Wordcount: 335 (ooc: Waiting for encounter)
