I think what Joey was trying to say was Penelope can't have an item what Alex has dug up. It's nothing to do with how the estate is shared between your characters but rather the treasure hunt rule as a whole.

Items are based on progress/how far the character has travelled, so basically (using Joey as an example as he has the whole table open to him) Joey could dig every week and hand all his rarer items over to Remi, who has only made it to Violet City and thus, techinically hasn't unlocked the later table items. I understand you are saying it is clutter and items can be shared between characters but in terms of treasure hunts, I am just pointing out what it says in the rules.

The rule being;

- Should your estate be co-owned between your multiple characters, only one of the characters will be able to search per week and the item list is based on their progress in the RP.
