The ancient letter pokémon shaped like an E moaned its pain with its vowel tone. It's partner vowel narrowed its big cyclops eye and shifted positions, aiming its next attack at the troublesome Diarm. A whirl of orbs composed of pure energy formed in a spinning circle around Unown U and shot toward the energetic chick. The impact wasn't near as bad as when the letter E had attacked the fire type, but the damage built up with the previous attack. Meanwhile, the Unown E decided to cover for U and attack the fiery fox preparing an ember. With a grunt the familiar formation of energy orbs swirled around the wild pokémon's figure and shot forth, enveloping the fennekin with a primal force that nearly made him white out. With that resilient spunk Diarm skipped around the designated battlefield to avoid the interfering letter U and get to his original target. E was hovering low, obviously a bit shaken from the previous slash, and that made it all the easier to catch the odd alphabet pokémon. Claws coated with a dark energy Diarm leapt and spun, whipping his claws against Unown E and sending it to the floor. Unown U hooted in surprise, losing focus as it focused on the torchic putting down its lettered friend. This left it an easy target as well despite Freyr's staggered energy. With a huff the vulpine stirred up the fire in its being to usher a spray of embers at the remaining Unown. The weird attacks of the Unown was starting to hurt Diarm, but he was all too excited about actually playing, that he didn't pay it any mind. He stumbled about after the latest attack, surprised at getting hit by the U form he hadn't touched yet. Unsure if he could reach the U with another jump, he instinctively fired up his embers, deaf to any words Dorthea might have said. "I'm dizzy," he announced to Freyr. Dorthea was watching, worried for her little baby chick, even though he was doing exceptionally well. The Unowns were changing their strategy, and she could just imagine how it confused Diarm. "Those tricksters" she growled. "Another Night Slash, Diarm, then you've got it." she adviced, but he wasn't listening. She wasn't listening that closely to Aglaia's tale of the different moves either. She just caught the conclusion at the end and recognized the name for one of the moves she had seen, when checking Diarm's data. She kept half an eye on Freyr too, as he was Diarm's back up, and noticed his staggering from the E's attack. "Is Freyr okay?" she wondered aloud for Aglaia's benefit. She knew Aglaia had better focus than her, but she also knew that Aglaia's focus sometimes was on other things than the stuff immediately in front of their noses. Wordcount: 222

Freyr too, staggered after the attack of the unown, though he stubbornly stayed on his feet. He was happy to see it one of the opponents go down, and wondered what his trainer would decide to do now. He was a bit irritated he had trouble already and wouldn't be able to endure much more. He was pretty sure Aglaia would recall him and that would be the end of that. She had for some reason wanted to see if he could do more than just look pretty, but she probably wouldn't think that, if he failed. He looked worried at Diarm, when the torchic proclaimed that he felt weird. That wasn't a good sign. "You are probably getting tired, don't pressure yourself too much, or else you will faint and then you can't play," Freyr warned kindly, not wanting to alarm Diarm though he would hate to see him go down. "You are doing really great!"
Aglaia had kept her attention to the battle this time, so Dorthea's comment only conformed what Aglaia was thinking herself. "Looks like he is for now, but I don't think he will continue to be at this rate," Aglaia responded seriously. "Do you think Diarm can handle it a bit? Freyr seems like he wants to stay in, so I'd like to give him a potion to help him along the way," Aglaia said even though Dorthea had more or less already answered it, by not recalling the torchic.
"Freyr! Come here," Aglaia called and his ears and tails immediately dropped. "I can't play anymore, but I'm sure you'll get another one, just keep having fun!" He said overly cheerful as goodbye to Diarm, before he returned crestfallen to Aglaia. He sat down beside her and stared disappointed ahead of him. He didn't move as she applied the potion, though he sighed as he felt better. He blinked confused and looked at her, when he didn't believe his own ears. What did she just say? "Go on, don't you want to continue?" Aglaia asked him again and he stared at her in disbelief. Then he slowly got back on his feet and took a few hesitant steps towards the battlefield, expecting to be called back. When it didn't happen he excited ran back to Diarm. Wystan smiled wryly as he saw the fennekins reaktion and realization, and he wondered if Aglaia had understood it too.

One Unown down, one to go. The U-shaped creature still seemed to be shocked at its companion's defeat. So much so that it didn't even notice Freyr returning to its owner's side to be healed up with a Potion. Not that it could've done much to stop the Fennekin, of course. More to the point, it had something else to worry about. Something orange and feathered, to be precise. No matter how Dorthea might have drawn up her plan, Diarm opted to fire off a few powerful fire pellets at the Unown left standing. The sentient vowel roared in pain as the flames licked across its skin - if one could call it "skin" - and backed away slowly. The floating letter took a moment to adjust itself, its singular eye scanning the Ruins for the opposition once again. Once it had locked onto Diarm, Unown let loose its next Hidden Power attack. Generating yet more orbs of light as it had done before, the Psychic type loosed all of its energy at the Torchic before it. The spheres collided with Diarm, knocking the Fire type onto its rear and slightly disorienting it. Diarm slowly rose to its feet, looking a little dazed now. The fight was starting to reach its conclusion, with both the Torchic and the wild Unown feeling the wear of the match. Freyr returned to Diarm's side quite promptly, having found its second wind. Where Diarm was too occupied to listen to Dorthea, he was far less inclined to ignore Freyr's advice, and he really did try to be more careful, so he wouldn't 'faint' whatever that was. It sounded boring if it stopped him from playing. He couldn't however stop the U from attacking him back it seemed, and the rough landing on his bottom was far from pleasant. He grumbled a bit and shook his head, trying to dislodge the swirling before getting to his feet again. The air didn't want to go the right way into his mouth, making him pant. "Is this tired?" He asked Freyr between breaths. His legs were shaking too. Dorthea nodded absentminded to Aglaia's question, and bit her lip, when Diarm didn't do as told. "If only he had listened. I was sure he could have handled that U before it hit him back." She said loud enough for Aglaia to hear, but mostly just to herself. "You need a rest, Diarm. Come back here, or I call you back in the ball." she called matter-of-fact. Maybe he was to tired to do it. As it was he just stood there shaking, chirping something to Freyr, and Dorthea decided to make a quick change, now Freyr was back in business. "You'll get out again in a minute." she promised the Torchic when she returned him to his ball, and called out Heidrun instead. She was taking another risk with the Joltik, she knew, but if Dorthea was good at anything, it was taking risks, and Freyr was out there having already proved he was rather good as back-up. "I'm back again! Let's finish this together and have fun!" Freyr called Excited to Diarm as he joined him once more and readied to defend his young friend with all he got. He paused when he heard Diarm's weakened question and he looked at him worried. He did really look tired. "Yes it is, it would be best if you sit down and rest a bit. Then you will soon get plenty of energy to play again," Freyr told him kindly and hoped the torchic would do as suggested. He didn't know that Diarm didn't know what fainting meant, or else he would have tried to explain that as kindly as possible. He didn't wanted their first battle together, the first real battle Freyr himself had been allowed to participate in, to end as a bad experience for Diarm. He stepped determined in between Diarm and the remaining unown. It was impressive what the little chick had benn capable of, and Freyr would do everything he could to finish it in their favor. He didn't noticed that Diarm was recalled as he took a deep breath and shot as many embers at the U as he could.
Aglaia smiled pleased. Freyr looked like he had grown with the task and that he had figure that he liked to battle. She had been worried he hadn't liked it, and although she could always had kept him like a cute mascot for her furture shop, she preferred to see him grow. "He is still young, give him time and he will come around. It's a start that he seems like he is listening to Freyr, and that Freyr is giving him decent advices, from what I can tell," Aglaia tried to reassure Dorthea. To be honest she had no idea of what Freyr and Diarm talked about, but they were clearly communicating and things hadn't turned wrong. That Freyr had stepped in front to protect Diarm was also a good sign on that. "Of course we'll need a way to make him focus on you as well, make you bond. I'm sure that will make him listen to you," Aglaia said cheerfully and wondered if it was a thing she could figure out with her own pokemon as well. It was a thing she had read and it sounded clever.

Is late; this is bad. Sorry. :cDorthea's smallest ally, Heidrum, took to the battlefield at this final furlong, landing happily on the ground and sizing up its opponent. The Unown whirred curiously, seeming a little stunned by the arrival of a new Pokemon this late. Regardless, it knew that it had to try to come out on top here. Even if the odds were effectively 0 now. It glowed with energy one last time, letting loose its Hidden Power against Freyr. Growling defiantly, the Fennekin dug his heels into the floor as he withstood the onslaught. Once the attack had died down, he simply threw an Ember back. Within seconds, the Psychic type fell to the floor, joining its companion.

Heidrun crouched low behind Freyr as he fired off his embers at the Unown. She didn't fancy flames much, so she counted herself lucky the fire fox wasn't her opponent. It looked like she wouldn't need to get directly into the fray herself, with the way the black letter Pokemon fell to the ground. She stayed put a moment, and if Freyr turned towards her, she would give him an apologizing little wave with one of her front legs. She was aware he might not have noticed the change, and had caught on to the fact that he and the chick talked a lot together. "Just playing replacement for a bit," she explained demurely. "I'm sure Diarm will be back in a moment." She looked back at Dorthea and Aglaia, and true to her word Diarm was already being let out again, and stood looking for his legs, while Dorthea squatted down and seemed to talk to him. Heidrun moved her legs back and forth, and then set out across the floor to Dorthea (unless someone 'read: Freyr' offered a ride). The dusty floor wasn't exactly the best place for collecting electricity. Dorthea nodded to Aglaia's words, and smiled looking at Diarm's ball. "It's wonderful that they seem such good friends already. I wonder if any more of our Pokemon would connect so easily." Dorthea shook her head at her own thoughts. It would require a lot of outings and combinations of teams to see how good their different Pokemon would do together. She would rather just take it as it came along. She called out Diarm as soon the last Unown had given up the fight, and squatted down to see if she couldn't get to him for just a short moment, before he decided to look for Freyr again. "Hey, Diarm." He was looking at his feet and swaying a bit like he was dizzy, which wasn't unlikely with how hard he had been going at it. She snapped her fingers, producing a sudden sound that drew his attention. "Diarm, you did really well just now, but you need to take care of yourself too, and stop when you are getting tired. Or at least listen to me, when I tell you to stop." Diarm gave a chirp and turned his head sideways. He didn't look like he had understood her much. Dorthea sighed and petted his head. "Just pay attention and listen to me or Freyr." Diarm gave a happy chirp, jumped up and ran to Freyr. Dorthea got back on her feet, and gave Aglaia a crooked smile. "I'm afraid I'll have to take him out alone from time to time, if he is to learn to listen to me too."Wordcount: 455

Freyr glared at the unown as it too fell to the ground and he watched them warily until he was sure they didn't get up and attacked again. He hadn't been in many battles, the only real battles he would count was the one he had been in today. He turned eagerly to Diarm to share the victory with him, and got quite confused when the torchic was nowhere to be seen. He didn't noticed Heidrun before she waved at him and he was clearly disappointed as his ears dropped. He nodded and tried to send her a smile, that become more of a grimace and glanced at the humans. He perked a bit when he noticed Diarm, and the two trainers looked happy as well and he sighed. He had looked forward to celebrate their first victory together, who knew when they would get a chance to work together again? As Heidrun began to crawl back to the humans he followed with yet another sigh and did not think about offering her a ride. She may be small, but to him it looked like she was doing alright on her own on the dusty floor. Aglaia watched as Dorthea attempted to get in contact with the torchic, but she found it difficult to decide if it worked or not. "You are probably right. I can also try talk with Freyr and see if he can help you in getting Diarm to listening to you, if you want," offered Aglaia as she looked how the torchic joined his friend with a smile. It disappeared when she saw Freyr's expression, he didn't really looked happy, did he? Hadn't he enjoyed it or did he believe she weren't appreciating his hard work? "Is it just me, or does he look a bit down?" Asked Aglaia her cousin worried, while Freyr did his best to greet Diarm cheerfully and explain that the battle was over and that they would play again, as soon as Diarm had relaxed a bit. "Hey, Freyr?" Called Aglaia and the fennekin looked questioningly at her. "You did great out there, I'm really proud of you, and also with how you are looking after Diarm. You are a great help," she praised him a bit nervously, not sure if it would make any difference. Freyr looked puzzled at her and he was uncertain of what to do with what she had just told him, he had never been praised for anything else than his looks or elegant behavior before. An awkward silence followed. (Unown seen until now: E, U) Ready for a mod

As the pair chatted to each-other in the chamber, an eerie sound that would've been somewhat familiar by this point seemingly echoed throughout their surroundings. There were certainly more of these unusual creatures around, though the noises appeared to be coming from every angle at once, making it hard to locate any one of the culprits. Though, before long, another pair of peculiar symbols slid out of the walls and into the trainers' line of sight. This time, the Pokémon had much simpler shapes. The first was little more than a sole line with its eye in the centre, while the other was circular in shape. Noticing Dorthea and Aglaia, the pair of vowels curiously stared at them. They seemed unsurprised by the human presence in this chamber, presumably having heard the commotion from the last battle, as they hovered in place. Then, without warning, the two letters both began to shimmer in a dim light, as if preparing to fight already.

Dorthea followed Aglaia's line of sight at her worry for Freyr, and she shrugged unsure if the Fennekin looked sadder than earlier. She wasn't that good at determining the small nuances in emotions, especially in the Pokemon, though she was working on it. She listened to Aglaia's praise of the fox, and decided to add her own two cents. "Yeah, Freyr. Thanks for looking after Diarm so well." Diarm looked up at his name, but soon realised the girls wasn't talking to him. He understood enough that Freyr had done well in the battle, same as him. Dorthea had told him so just a minute ago. "We did good!" He cheered in celebration, and started jumping up and down. To him it didn't matter that they hadn't finished together, because they had played together, and they had won, and the trainers were praising them. "We won! We won! We won!" he sang, while jumping around Freyr and laughing, earlier exhaustion forgotten. "Let's do it again!" he urged soon enough. Heidrun had fallen behind in getting back to the trainers. She was decently fast, but her legs were still small, and she didn't feel like making a run for it. Everything was quiet anyway, or so she thought. She was merely halfway across the floor, when the sounds returned, different though the same at the same time, and Heidrun turned on instinct, grumbling a bit annoyed. Next time she would ask for a ride, so she wouldn't risk getting caught out in the open like this. Heidrun made a quick assesment of the two arrivals. They looked a bit different too, but she was very sure they were like the others. Their whole manner was the same. Very well, Heidrun decided, better make a good offense to show them that she hit hard despite her size. She wondered how they tasted. Wordcount: 310

For Freyr the awkwardness was rather quickly broken as Diarm jumped around him, full of childish excitement and he couldn't help but smile. "Yes, you are right, we did good," he answered and then paused as he thought about what he had just said. He looked thoughtfully at the girls, maybe, just maybe, they didn't expect the same as all the others he had met, especially the female ones. He was pleased that they liked he spent some time with Diarm as he would have missed that dearly. Perhaps that was why they gave him more room than usual, because it was a part of playing with the torchic? That would make sense and it fitted Freyr perfectly. Hopefully he wouldn't have to go back to be an ornament when Diarm didn't need a playmate anymore. "We need someone to play with, can you find any?" Reminded Freyr the young chicken and waited eagerly to see what he would do.
Aglaia cleared her throat and was saved from the awkwardness by the eerie sound, they had heard before. She narrowed her eyes at the letters, could it be those who came directly out of the wall? Or were they just hiding among them? She wanted to check that out, since if they were the letters that crept out of towards them, they better find the exit, as there were hundreds if not thousands of letters on the walls. She opened her mouth to tell Dorthea but it instead turned into a gasp as one of her pokeballs popped open and a fluff of blue feathers fell to the ground. Thanh was quickly back on his feet and looked around curiously. He didn't take time to preen his feathers or in some other way do something about his messy look. "Thanh? How did you get out of your pokeball?" Asked Aglaia surprised and he looked at her and gave her a happy quack. He had just jumped out, it was too boring just sitting inside and do nothing, and he had heard something funny out here, which he wanted to see what was.
As Aglaia picked up the now empty pokeball, Thanh leaped up in the air and almost collided with the ceiling beofre he managed to adjust himself in the smaller cave. He enjoyed soaring around a bit before he noticed the two strange looking black floating things, and a little yellow dot, who were running in their direction. He dived to fly over here. "Hey, what are you doing and what are these?" Called he down to her, as he raced past her. His attention was at her and he would too late notice how close he had got to the unowns. He made a surprised quack and flapped his wings to avoid colliding with the O shaped one, and would accidently hit it with his wings if it didn't get out of the way. He managed to stay airborn though. "I'm sorry!" Called he apologizing to it afterwards, feeling a bit ashamed that he hadn't paid attention to where he was going. He turned around to come back and as he got close to the wall he let his webbed feet run on the wall surface a few steps, before he flapped his wings to straighten up. He passed over Freyr and Diarm and called down a greeting to them as well, and would every time he passed them, or Heidrun every time he circled over.
As the Ducklet looked to do alright, and Aglaia was pretty sure she wouldn't be able to hit him with the pokeballs red light to recall him, she instead turned to Dorthea. "I know it sounds strange, but do you think the unowns here could be the letters? Since then there are a bit too many for my taste," said she while gesturing to the writings on the wall.

In attempt to avoid running into the Unown, Thanh's wing flapping had only managed to just deal more damage to it. The eerie sound was now a bit louder now that the Ducklett was closer to the very strange Pokemon. Now that the Ducklett was closer to the Unowns, it was clear that there was something a bit different about these from the two they had previously seen before. Maybe the trainer was correct in guessing that the writings on the walls of the chamber and the strange, Psychic-type Unown were different letters? There certainly seemed to be enough different shapes of them to create an alphabet with. The small Joltik attacked next. Getting a little taste of battle (and perhaps a taste of the Unown as well), Heidrun landed a Leech Life attack onto the Unown the Ducklett had run into previously and dealt a large amount of damage to it, being a super-effective hit. Because Heidrun had fallen behind the trainers a bit, it had gotten the chance to be the first of Dorthea's Pokemon to fight against these Unowns. It was like a chance for Heidrun to prove to the Unown and the trainers that its not the size of the bug in the fight, but the size of the fight in the bug. The strange Unowns then released the light they seemed to be storing as an attack, hitting both the Ducklett and the Joltik with the Hidden Power. The eerie noise just seemed to continue after the Pokemon released their attacks, not dealing too much damage to Thanh or Heidrun. Diarm looked around to try and find some new playmates. He didn't took long in spotting the ones going against Heidrun and Thanh, and he chirped in worry, while he pointed with one foot. "They are already playing with someone else!" he complained, going from overjoyed to devastated in seconds. It was hard keeping his balance on one foot while pointing, but he solved that problem before falling over by expressing his displeasure by stomping both feet in the dust repeatedly. He stopped not long after though, seeming to have thought of something (or Freyr had managed to reach him). He looked between Freyr and the battling Pokemon, a careful question in his face. "Would they let us play with, you think?" Dorthea was equal parts exasperated and excited when a new set of letters arrived. She was at most times good for a battle or two, but this was getting ridiculous. Too late Dorthea realised Heidrun hadn't made it back to her yet, but before she could do anything about it, she flinched at the surprise arrival of Thanh in the room. Of course the stupid bird had to start flapping around, and Dorthea gritted her teeth. She forced her attention onto poor Heidrun who looked tiny to the others in the room. She hated how her lackluster ability to focus got completely thrown by the mere sound of beating wings. She squinted hard. Heidrun actually looked to fare decent out there, and the bird's erratic behavior was surprisingly helpful. Dorthea decided she didn't need to act right away, and turned her focus purposefully on Aglaia. What had she said again? Something about the writing and the Pokemon... "Well, if they are the letters on the wall, they are actually being rather kind to only attack in pairs." She said, and was satisfied her voice came out in the light tone she had intended. "Heidrun seems to manage right now, but I'll admit this is getting a bit much." she added more serious. Oh, but she wished the Ducklett would stop flying around so much. Heidrun heard well Thanh's question, but she was in the middle of 'defending' herself, and he was off so fast, she didn't see the point in trying to shout back immediately. After his near collision, and her own luck in getting close to the O, she tried to fasten her eyes on the Ducklett's route in the air. That soon made her dizzy, and she stopped the effort. "Would you stay still long enough for me to answer?!" she shouted up to him, and almost scared herself, though her voice was rather tiny to his quacking. She shook herself, and looked at the Unowns to estimate their standing. The O had already taken two attacks. It couldn't have that much life back in it. Time to try if the I tasted different. Freyr looked at the unowns who was faced by the blue bird and the tiny yellow bug. He ducked his head, when Thanh swept past them. A part of him were happy he didn't have to battle already, it was nice with a little break even though Diarm clearly didn't agree. The fennekin looked to the humans to see if they would order them to participate, but they looked more interested in chatting and was pointing to the walls. He shook his head, that meant it was up to him to entertain the young torchic. He waited until the young torchic stopped with his tiny tantrum, he saw no reason to give him any attention for that, and instead smiled when Diarm had calmed down and asked a question. "I'm not sure if there is any space for us there, they are a bit too fast to ask I fear," admitted he as Thanh once more circled over them. "But we can have fun on our own!" Continued Freyr cheerfully and gave Diarm a gentle nudge, while looking playfully at him. "You're it! See if you can catch me!" Challenged the fennekin and pranced away while looking back to see if Diram followed him. He would pretend he did everything he could to avoic the torchic, but would make it rather easy for his young playmate to catch him. If Diarm caught on and caught him, he would grin broadly. "Alriiiight, now I'm going to catch you!" He teased and made a big deal out of getting ready to chase Diarm, who would hopefully run away and think it was funny. If Diarm wouldn't understand the game, or not finding it funny, he would of course stop it right away.
Aglaia didn't notice Dorthea's uneasiness or else she would have done some more to control Thanh. At the moment though, she had forgot about her cousin's fear of the flying pokemon. She was more worried about the unown and how many more battles they would have to go through before they could leave the cave. She laughed humorlessly as Dorthea remarked that the unown's were nice to come in pairs and not flood them. "Yeah, just like in the movies," said Aglaia dryly and nodded her agreement in that it was a bit too much with all these battles in a row. "We should probably have investigated what we could run into here, and if there was something that could chase all these letters away," said Aglaia thoughtful, "But for now, we should probably see if we can get closer to the exit, and hope they are not trying to keep us in a wear us down." She looked around to find the fastest way out.
Thanh had a wonderful time, at least until he was hit in the back by an attack and made him lose his balance. It may hadn't hurt much, but he had been surprised by it and had to land. He shook his body and feathers flew everywhere, when he looked at the strange floating pokemon to scold them, he saw one of them attacking the tiny bug. He quacked protesting and jumped over to the O unown and attempted to give it a slap with his wing. "Behave yourself! Go for someone on your own side! It was me who flew into you, take you anger out on me instead!" scolded he and waddled over to where Heidrun was at the moment. "You said something?" Asked he cheerfully with no trace of the little anger he had shown before. He was not one to hold grudges.
