Facing a unusual Pokemon that he was not accustomed to seeing was a perk of being a gym leader and Disco was more than just a surprise it was an unusual pick as well. Being weak to bug type attacks Bugsy did not think Ethan was actually going to use a psychic type but sure enough he was. " I am very pleased to see you have trained your Baltoy very well. Taking a super effective attack like that is never a good thing but it appears your Baltoy took that Bug Bite pretty well. I must admit Psychic types are a rare treat due to their weakness in bug types but this is shaping up to be very interesting indeed." Not truly prepared to face a special attacker he knew Metapod would be in trouble if any ranged attack scored a hit but he could not allow Scyther to take such a powerful attack by switching her in either as she had a dual weakness to rock type attacks.

Forced to leave Metapod out on the field and caught between a rock and a hard place Bugsy had to make the most of his Pokemon while he could. Metapod was slow but he was hoping she would be able to outpace a Baltoy and score one last hit before going down so that Scyther would have an easy time finishing it off. " Metapod try your best to strike quickly with Bug Bite before that Baltoy can score an attack." As she tried to slowly hop towards Disco a magnificent light began to shine in front of the psychic type before it formed into a ball and flew towards the cocoon Pokemon. With impeccable aim Disco scored a direct hit right between the Metapod's eyes in the middle of a jump sending her flying back towards Bugsy. He was smart enough to know that she was down for the count without even having seen her face.

" Metapod you did great you have earned a rest. It looks like your special attacks have found a way past my Metapod's defenses and in a very creative way at that. I did not think a psychic type would give me so much trouble but your Baltoy sure has some amazing skills. I am down to my last Pokemon now and you should remember her from earlier. Sadly I do not have any way to cure her paralysis during this battle but even with a crippling condition such as that I do believe she should still prove to be quite a challenge." Keeping his hopes up that his Scyther would somehow reverse his fortunes in the battle so far Bugsy was all too eager to start another round.

Ethan had feel successful so far, as he had finally defeated two of Bugsy's Pokemon. If he would defeat the Scyther too, then victory was his. He smiled as he listened to the gym leader spoke, and then replied back, "Well, Baltoy's body is hard as clay. So I would be surprised if your Metapod could bite through that. Clay is a hardy material!" Even though his Cottonee was weaker in defense, he was glad to see that his Baltoy wasn't.

As the round continued, the bug type was soon knocked out cold from the devastating Ancient Power attack. The Metapod was out in the field shorter than the Kakuna, but that was because Ethan was going physical on his Rattata. "Good job, Disco! You have a good rest!" Ethan held out a Pokeball and returned his praised ground type Pokemon. Then, he tossed out another Pokeball and began speaking, "Your turn, Wavy! Time to bounce! Of course I remember your Scyther! Wavy, use Charm!"

Out from the Pokeball, was a Pokemon that was bigger than Ethan's previous Pokemon. Rattata and Cottonee and Baltoy were "small", at least when compared to the tall Azumarill. The water Pokemon came out and hopped on the grassy ground happily, and then proceeded to start with an insult toward the Scyther about those rusty scythe. Then, she prepared herself for some cutesy charm attack.

Bugsy had to cross his fingers in the back of his mind, as his actual hand gripped hold onto his third and final Pokeball. No longer was he able to use his U-Turn trick, like he had done previously and his Metapod had fallen much quicker than Kakuna before it. For a while, Bugsy thought he was on the clear road to victory but did Ethan truly have a team of Pokemon that could defeat him? He had started out with a Rattata and now, he had sent forth the final form of the Azurill line, which was known to be difficult to train due to the happiness factor. "An Azumarill? Another intriguing choice! It is not often Pokemon other than fire or flying enter my Gym!" The Gym Leader hated to admit it but he had underestimated Ethan and now both he and his Pokemon were paying the price.

Throwing forward his Scyther, who reappeared with the thirst for blood present in her glare, Bugsy tutted to himself before seeing a scatter of static flicker around her legs. The restrictions placed on his Gym meant he couldn't use any items other than the secret berry Scyther, herself, was holding onto. Letting this hint slip his lips, it would be this silly rule that held Bugsy back from winning this fight. "Gr... Scyther, use Quick Attack!" Barely hearing Bugsy through her rageful thoughts, the large bug type already detested the mere sight of Wavy. The sly water type looked all cheerful but she was tossing insults like there was no tomorrow and Scyther was hot headed enough as it was.

Planning on using the attack if Bugsy had said so or not, the creature bent her legs to pounce forward, ready to fill Wavy with dread due to it's intense speed... But the Scyther literally fell on her own face. "Scyther! Are you alright?!" Putting too much pressure on herself, the paralysis kicked in, causing her to shake in a pained spasm and collapse to the ground. Struggling to look up, the Scyther felt like a fool for such a stupid mistake and felt incredibly angry at the thought of Wavy's expression. Only, what annoyed the Scyther even more was that the Azumarill had put on a fake charm, trying to help the Scyther back up before scuttling away. Ashamed, the Scyther felt her confidence drop.

Ethan smiled again, thanking his opponent for the compliment, as well as sharing his experience with the Azumarill. "Thanks! I got my Azurill as a baby from this young trainer who had some angry Houndour after him. Then I raised this Azurill by training on rock and ground type Pokemons in Union Cave. Look at how big she is now! Since she's a water type, she likes to play around on and in water."

Then, after Bugsy had given his order, Ethan watched anxiously once again as this round continues. He felt a bit more relaxed from Disco's light hearted playfulness earlier, but he was still anxious though. The giant green Scyther charged forward with a Quick Attack, and the bug type moved very fast for his eyes to follow. However, the paralysis from earlier made the bug stumble, crippling the Scyther's ability to strike first. Ethan took a deep sigh afterwards, at least feeling secure on the first round with Bugsy's ace Pokemon.

"Good job, Wavy! Now an Aqua Tail!" the trainer cheered, and was readily for the next turn, switching from defensive to an offensive mode.

Listening with genuine intrigue to Ethan's story on how he enquired the Azumarill, the Bug trainer couldn't help but grin back. His grin was a bit awkward, however. Even though the Pokemon was a water type, thus having an advantage over both Rock and Ground type Pokemon, he knew first hand just how tough those rocky creatures could be to defeat. If Wavy had been trained against such opponents, then there was no doubt that she would be a difficult opponent. "Sounds like... An interesting story! There are certainly all types in this world but the boy clearly trusted you enough to offer you his Pokemon. And rightly so! From an Azurill into an Azumarill, it's an impressive achievement." Slamming her two scythes together, the Scyther was very unimpressed with the amount of banter going on around her. Hearing how good she is this and how good she is that, all the Scyther wanted to do was cut wavy down.

Rubbing the back of his head wearily, Bugsy spoke out his next order. "Sorry for the hold up, Scyther. Let's get right back into it. Don't push yourself too hard, though." Hinting at her paralysis, the bipedal bug hissed viciously at his coddling and kindness. "Fine, fine. Use Quick Attack, full force!" This time, all her limbs were reacting on time and she found herself able to move freely. The static still flickered off of her body, so she had to get the move out and fast. Moving to the point of teleportation, the Scyther made her incredible speed fully aware to everyone before approaching the very front of Wavy. Curling a scyther upward, the bug felt her attack strike but oddly enough, her arm bounced off.

Barely doing any damage at all to Wavy, the Azumarill smirked up at the puzzled Scyther, who was too shocked to realise she was in the perfect position to receive an attack back. Spinning on her heel, a blob of water formed around the ball at the tip of her spring like tail, the water based attack striking the Scyther in the face and knocking her to the ground. "Tsk... Scyther, use your berry!" Staggering back up, the bug didn't want to admit the attack hurt but it was able to take down just about a third of her health. Stretching out her wings, the Pokemon flew to one of the many bushes in the Gym and plucked a fresh Sitrus Berry before eating it and restoring her health. Smirking, Bugsy raised the point in conversation, "And this isn't cheating, it is all part of my Gym strategy. Though it was used a bit too quickly.."

Seeing how Bugsy grinned and replied back on Wavy's story, Ethan was cheerful to respond again. "Thanks! Though most of the Pokemon in Union Cave were part rock type and part ground type, so a water move was simple enough to knock them out without a scratch on the Azurill then Marill then Azumarill." After he said that, Wavy cutely cried, agreeing on her trainer's statement, as well as nodding her head.

Then, the battle continued once again, and Ethan could witness once again how fast the Scyther was. In a matter of few seconds, the bug fought through the paralysis and sliced her mantis arm scythe on Azumarill. Thankfully though, the charm earlier had weakened the bug type's physical attack. Next, Bugsy surprised Ethan by having his Pokemon eating a Sitrus Berry, which restored basically the powerful attack that Wavy just did.

"Wow, so this was your surprise? I see. That's good. Wavy, good job and use Aqua Tail again! The Scyther don't have another one!" Ethan hollered at his water Pokemon, hoping to finally getting the Hive Badge.

No matter what Pokemon Ethan had to fight to raise a Azurill into an Azumarill Bugsy was still impressed as it was a very unique opponent to face just like the other Pokemon Ethan had used. Bugsy could not rely solely on Scyther's speed and with Charm significantly lowering her attack her strength was now a fraction of it's normal amount. Adding that together with the early usage of her Sitrus berry it was not a good combination to deal with but Bugsy was far from willing to throw in the towel. Happy to have found a foe who could put his skills to the test using odd methods was always something to celebrate and this was no exception.

" From the start of this battle there was something I thought I would like about you and your wonderful combinations of attacks and unique Pokemon has been a fantastic treat from the normal challengers I get. Few who enter can put Scyther in such a predicament so I commend you on being such a worthy opponent. If only more trainers would be like you I would not mind losing so much but this battle is still not quite over yet. Scyther let's try something different this time, Use Focus Energy to build up your chances of a critical hit. I feel we will need all of your hidden power to win this battle." He said as Scyther began to flex her arms pumping herself up for a tough battle ahead.

Although the paralysis slowed her down she was still able to complete her display leaving her with a burst of energy. The loss of speed however meant she could not dodge Wavy's water covered tail as she smacked Scyther across the chest with another powerful Aqua Tail. " Another good round. Considering the majority of the opponents your Azumarill faced to become this strong she is doing a great job against Scyther. Now that Scyther has an increased critical hit rate let's see if she can still hold her own like she has so far.

Hearing Bugsy's compliment so far had made Ethan happy, as he thought this gym had been challenging in its own way. However, no matter how much compliment Bugsy had given him, he still have a battle to finish. He wouldn't want to be the hare in his own Aesop fable. He replied to the gym leader, with a grin on his face. "Thank you! Your strategy was interesting too! A combination of defensive bug Pokemon and offensive bug Pokemon. Your trick up your sleeve was something new that I haven't seen before. Though I thought you said that you usually face fire and flying type Pokemon? Are they not a predicament too?" He asked, recalling facts that Bugsy had said.

Then, as usual, he watched the battle continued again. This time, instead of attacking, the Scyther seemed to be preparing for a boost in offensive power. The opponent glowed a bit as energy were charged up inside the Scyther's body, but the bug was still smacked by Wavy's powerful Aqua Tail. So he had the opponent crippled, and now he just needed do focus on doing more damage.

"Good job, Wavy! You're doing great! Now go for another Aqua Tail! Hit the Scyther hard!" Ethan hollered, with the goal of victory in his eyes.

Scyther was full of enthusiasm to have another go at Wavy after her last attack barely left a scratch. The mantis had failed to live up to her species name with that weak hit and she wanted to give this round her all unsure if she could handle much more damage. She had already taken a beating from an opponent she had not expected but losing to such an opponent without at least putting up a great fight would be a very embarrassing moment for her and she was going to give this next round her all. Before Bugsy ordered an attack he spoke about his experiences with Fire and Flying Types.

" It is true Fire and Flying types are hard to beat whenever trainers who use them raise them properly however most trainers who come into my gym think type alone will secure victory. When I do face well trainer Fire and Flying types things become far more challenging as outside of Scyther's Technician ability which when combined with Quick Attack does decent damage most of my Pokemon cannon do much damage to them. Your unique battling style completely shut down most of my strategy in a way I have not seen before so even if I do lose this battle it was well worth it to at least say it was to someone with creativity instead of brute force.

Ready for the next round to begin Bugsy had no choice but to give it his all this round as his team had been unable to knock out a single Pokemon on Ethan's team. " Scyther use Quick Attack on Azumarill. It is our only hope at this point. As Scyther tried to move however her body would not cooperate and all she could do was stand in place as she twitched from paralysis. Bugsy's last hope faded before his eyes as Scyther could only watch as Wavy approached to deliver another blow. Scoring a direct hit right into the poor mantis's head Scyther fell to the ground out cold by the strike. Bugsy stood silent for a moment before starting the laugh a little about the whole ordeal.

" I must admit defeat. This has been a fantastic battle and it was a pleasure to have met you Ethan. It was a wonderful change of pace and though I wish I could have made things a bit more challenging for you this battle has shown me there are still things I need to work on. I would like you to have this Hive badge and prize money for your victory as it was well earned. After reaching into his pocket he handed Ethan the money and badge as well as taking out another item as well. " I would also like you to have This TM for U-Turn as I think it may be of use to you. I wish you the best of luck on your journey and who knows maybe someday we can have a rematch.

Ethan listened to Bugsy's explanation of his strategy happily, as he was amused that a bug gym could give fire and flying types a headache. "That's an interesting physical attack strategy. A combination of attack and speed on your Scyther, while a defensive approach on your cocoon Pokemon." He smiled, then paid attention to the next round. He was both excited and nervous at the same time, as he knew that he had taken his time with the Kakuna and Metapod, but Azumarill's high power meant that the battle could go on a bit faster.

Indeed it was, even though the Scyther had a mix of surprise from Technician ability to a Sitrus berry restoring health, Ethan had managed to defeat the gym leader's ace Pokemon to the end. The Scyther was no match to the Azumarill's powerful Aqua Tail. After that, Bugsy laughed about this a bit before handing Ethan his winning prizes.

"Oh, it's okay. I had fun in this battle too! Your Kakuna certainly was bit tougher than your Scyther. Thanks again for the gym battle! I would definitely make good use of the U-Turn." Ethan replied with a grin on his face, and happily getting the new badge and a new TM. Wavy and Weecot danced happily for their victory. Ethan thanked his Pokemon's help and returned them back to their Pokeballs.
